Mr. David Merrill Couch, 74, of Newnan, Ga. died Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Mr. Couch was born July 23, 1925 in Coweta County. He worked in the plumbing and electrical field.

A funeral was Thursday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. John Evans and the Rev. Fred Shelnutt officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Jim Bell, Josh Evans, Hammond Hatchett, Scott Lassitter, Bobby Rooks, Frank Rooks, Charles Tanner and Hal McMahan.

The family requested that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church, 4301 Highway 70, Newnan, Ga. 30263 and Emory Chapel United Methodist Church, 2677, Highway 34 West, Newnan, Ga. 30263.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Hill Ransby, 52, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at Emory Medical Center in Atlanta.

A funeral will be Saturday, May 20, 2000 at 1 p.m. at China Grove Baptist Church in Turin, Ga. with the Rev. W. J. Buchannan, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Harold Kilgore, Evangelist Ann McKibbins and Evangelist J. Hosch. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be men of the church, flower ladies will be Women In Touch members.

Mrs. Ransby was born July 14, 1947, to the late Lucille Hill Gay and Willie Bob Harris in Turin, Ga. She received her primary education at Eastside Junior High School where she was homecoming queen. She graduated from Central High School in 1966 in Newnan, Ga. She was a faithful member of China Grove Baptist from the age of 8 until she died. She served in several organizations in the church: Women in Touch and the Willing Workers. She married Roy Ransby Sr. December 11, 1970 and they had two children. She was a dedicated and loyal employee of NCR Inc. for 15 years in Peachtree City, Ga. She was a woman who loved life and her family. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, dining and laughing. She is remembered as a compassionate and giving person.

Surviving are her husband, Roy Ransby Sr.; children, Roy Ransby Jr. and Audrey Ransby; father and step-mother, Willie Bob and Florida Harris; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gaines (Bobbie), Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Ferrell (Lavonia), Ms. Collie Ann Anthony, Ms. Elaine Gay and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hunter (Eunice); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Esther Frances Daly, 91, of Heritage Trace, Newnan, died Thursday, May 18, 2000 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

She was born October 26, 1908 in Mississippi. She was a homemaker.

The family will receive friends at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, Mississippi Saturday evening, May 20.

A funeral will be at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, Mississippi Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in East Haven Cemetery in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Two sons preceded her in death, Charles King and Richard King.

Mr. Oscar Eugene Kimble, 63, of Franklin, Ga. died suddenly Thursday, May 19, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Kimble was born November 4, 1936 to the late Bartow Kimble and Mertice Calloway Kimble in Coweta County, Ga. He was retired from the Binion Tire Company in Newnan.

A funeral will be Saturday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Lynn Janney officiating. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Lounell Orr Kimble, of Franklin, Ga.; daughter, Becky Minnix of Athens, Ga.; sons, Larry Kimble, Mike Kimble, Donnie Kimble, all of Franklin, Ga., and Rodney Kimble of Watertown, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 26 at the graveside in Hillview East Cemetery in LaGrange, with the Rev. Wallace Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Jenkins was born April 8, 1936 in Atlanta and lived in Fayetteville before making her home in Tampa in 1997 and was a member of Healing Waters Cathedral. She was a devoted and unconditionally loving mother who will be loved and greatly missed by her children.

Surviving are daughters, Candace Jenkins of Delaware, Ohio and Teresa Jenkins of Ocala, Florida; sons, Danny Jenkins of Cade's Creek, Arizona, Dennis Jenkins of Wesley Chapel, Florida, and David Jenkins of Tampa; mother, Mrs. Betty Garrett of LaGrange; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held at graveside in Whitesburg City Cemetery Tuesday, May 23 at 2 p.m. with Brother Hoyt Warren officiating.

Surviving in addition to her parents are grandparents Robert and Betty Pittman of Carrollton and Roy and Melanie Perry of Whitesburg.

Mr. William L. "Bill" Quinn, 75, of Chickamauga, Ga., died Monday, May 22 in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Born in Ft. Worth, Texas, he spent all but the first six years of his life in the North Georgia area. Mr. Quinn served in the Marine Corp. during World War II and was a former Walker County Commissioner and local businessman. He served as deacon at the First Baptist Church in Chickamauga as well as Sunday School teacher and served on various other committees. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Carl and Veda Mae Quinn; and two sisters, Jessie Mae Quinn McDaniel and Versie Quinn Bell.

A funeral will be Thursday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Chickamauga, Ga. with Revs. Richard Allmon and Bob Berrier officiating. Burial will be in Chickamauga Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends Wednesday from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home. On Thursday the family will receive friends at the church at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the First Baptist Church in Chickamauga, Ga.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Lantie Tawzer Quinn; son, Carl T. Quinn; daughters, Anne Quinn Powell of Newnan, Ga. and C. Jane Quinn of Chicago, Ill.; sister, Betty Quinn Graham of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mittie Jane Burdette Simonton, 88, of Franklin, Ga., died at her home May 22, 2000 after several years of declining health.

Mrs. Simonton was born December 9, 1911 in Heard County, Ga. to the late Homer Elmer Burdette and Georgia Lemma Chappelear Burdette. She was also preceded in death by her husband Carl Marion Simonton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin, and served faithfully in many positions until the onset of her illness. She was a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Womens Missionary Union. "Miss Jane" was also the person with the longest membership in the church. She had served Heard County in many areas, including Assistant Post Mistress, head of the Draft Board, and a former teacher at the Texas School House. Before serving Heard County she was the Troup County Selective Service agent. She was a member of the Pilot Club, and the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary.

A funeral will be Wednesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Franklin with the Rev. Talmadge Chandler officiating. Burial will be in the Franklin City Cemetery.

Surviving are daughter, Carolyn Rooks of Exton, Penn.; brother, Ralph Burdette of Sharpsburg, Ga.; granddaughter, Beverly Jorgensen of San Jose, Calif.; grandsons, Bob Rooks of Wellsley, Mass., and John Rooks of Portland, Maine; eight great-grandchildren.]

Mrs. Janice Hay Woodley, 49, of Hogansville, died Monday, May 22, 2000 at her home.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville. The Rev. Wesley Boatman will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mrs. Woodley was born November 2, 1950 in Hogansville, daughter of the late Inez and Frank Hay. She lived in Hogansville most of her life and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Myron O. Woodley of Hogansville; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Scotty Chapman of Hogansville; son, Terry Bozeman of Marietta; sisters, Margaret Bullock and Lynn Pike, both of Hogansville; brother, Harry Hay of Newnan; two grandchildren, Lacy Chapman and Ryan Scott Chapman of Hogansville.

Mrs. Janice Hay Woodley, 49, of Hogansville, died Monday, May 22, 2000 at her home.

Mr. Bert Milton Atkinson
Mr. Bert Milton Atkinson, 78, of Durham, North Carolina died May 29, 2000 at Duke University Medical Center.

He was a Captain, retired, in the United States Navy. Born August 17, 1921 at Mather Field, California, he spent his youth between St. Augustine, Florida and Palo Alto, California where he graduated from Palo Alto High School. He attended Menlo Junior College where he was noted as an outstanding football player. He entered the U.S. Naval Academy in 1942 and graduated in the class of '46.

During his Naval career he served on destroyers -- commanding the USS Huse, DE145; the USS Steinaker DD863; Destroyer Division 102; Destroyer Squadron 32 -- and carriers in the Pacific area. Staff duty in Washington, Norfolk and London was a part of his Navy years as was Industrial College where he earned an MBA.

After retirement he lived in Ormond Beach, Florida. He and his wife, Gay, recently moved to The Forest at Duke in Durham, North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife, Gay; a sister, Susan Atkinson Fischer of San Francisco, California; a niece, Erika Fischer and a nephew, Benhardt B. Fischer Jr. of San Diego, California.

Burial will be in the family plot in Newnan, Ga. following a brief memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ormond Memorial Art Museum in Ormond Beach, Florida or the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation, c/o USNA Alumni House, 247 King George St., Annapolis, Maryland 21401.

Mrs. Irma G. Driver, 85, of Church Street, Whitesburg, died Monday, May 29, 2000 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

She was born June 4, 1914 in Carroll County to the late Joseph Thomas Crews and Louvie Huff Crews. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Methodist Church. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jim T. Driver, six sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Mary Ann Driver and Dan J. and Kathryn Driver, all of Whitesburg; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be Wednesday, May 31 at 1 p.m. at Martin and Hightower West Center Street Chapel in Carrollton with the Rev. Jimmy Henry officiating.

Burial will be in St. Paul Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Vaudelle Heath McCarty, 89, of the Clem Community, died May 28, 2000 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

She was born in Carroll County March 16, 1911 to the late Joseph S. Heath and Rebecca Elizabeth Simpkins Heath. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie W. McCarty; daughters, Joan Wood and Jean McCarty; brother, Lester Heath; sister, Geneva Driver.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Betty McCarty of Carrollton; five sisters, Margie Coulon, Doris Phillips and Mary Phillips, all of Carrollton, Dorothy Vines of Villa Rica and Betty Jo Lyle of Dawsonville, Ga.; two brothers, Clarence Heath of Marietta, Ga., and Arthur Heath of Norcross, Ga.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral was Tuesday, May 30 at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with the Rev. Doug New officiating. Pallbearers were Dustin Gresham, Dennis Bates, Tim Vines, Andy Heath, Charlie Akers and Jerry Heath. Honorary pallbearers were great-grandsons.

Burial was in Clem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

A funeral will be at Heritage Baptist Church Thursday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Ron McCurry and Pastor Robert McCurry will officiate. Burial will be in College Park Cemetery on Virginia Avenue.

Surviving are daughter, Ann Jones of Hogansville, Ga.; daughter, Ruth Patrick of Newnan, Ga. and son, Rev. Robert McCurry; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Prince was born October 8, 1932 in Carroll County, Ga., son of the late Julie and O. W. Prince. He was a former Newnan businessman, Civitan, former member of the Coweta County Board of Education and deacon-emeritus of First Baptist Church in Newnan. He was the retired owner of Maxwell-Prince Furniture Store, which he operated in Newnan for many years.

He joined Arnco Baptist Church at an early age in 1952 and had been a member of First Baptist since April 20, 1958. He was a First Baptist deacon for many years, served as deacon chairman, honorary deacon as of Oct. 19, 1993 and deacon emeritus as of August 27, 1995. He also sang in the adult choir for many years. He was director of and choirester of Gene Prince Bible Study at Spence Avenue homes for many years. He was a member of Gideons and served as local secretary.

He was an active member of Newnan Civitan Club, was president of the local club and treasurer of the Georgia District North. He served two terms on the Coweta County Board of Education from 1978 to 1984.

He attended West Georgia College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a business degree. He served two years in the U.S. Army stationed in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, Ft. Bliss, Texas and Panama Canal Zone, Panama.

After the military he worked as a loan officer with C&S Bank in Newnan. He founded Maxwell-Prince Furniture Company Inc. in October 1962. It was well-known in Newnan with the slogan, "Drive a Little - Save a Lot." He retired for health reasons in October 1985. He received an award from the Georgia Home Furnishings Association in June 1979.

Diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in 1972, he worked to coordinate the local fundraising efforts for MD in conjunction with the Jerry Lewis annual Labor Day telethon. There are 40 neuromuscular diseases, and Mr. Prince had myotonic muscular dystrophy.

In addition to his parents, a brother, Quinton Prince, preceded him in death.

A funeral will be at First Baptist Church in Newnan Wednesday, May 31 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Gene Tyre and the Rev. Gene Prince Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road in Newnan.

Pallbearers will be Gene Argo, John Cunningham, Melvin Holloway, L. C. Lane, John Robuck, Scott Shefelton, Steve Stripling and Eugene Tollerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Robinson, Sayward Rogers, David Shefelton, Jerry Singleton and Ed Craft.

Contributions in Mr. Prince's memory may be made to the First Baptist Home Nursing Ministry, 15 W. Washington St., Newnan, Ga. 30263.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Prince; mother-in-law, Bana Cottle; sons, Alan and Cathy Prince, Greg and Dianna Prince and Gene and Carol Prince Jr.; grandchildren, Annie Prince, Brianna Prince, Christa Prince, Coles Prince, Emma Prince, Gregory Prince, Jack Prince, Max Prince, Tripp Prince and Walt Prince.
