The Rev. Emmett Nichols, 74, of Franklin, Ga., died at his residence July 19, 2000 after many years of declining health.

Rev. Nichols was born in Randolph County, Alabama, April 5, 1926, to the late Ed Nichols, and Mary Freeman Nichols. He was a graduate of Auburn University and was a retired manager for Sears, Roebuck and Company. For several years he served the Glenn Methodist Circuit as their pastor. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

A funeral will be Friday, July 21 at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Ga. The Rev. Talmadge Chandler will officiate. Burial will be in Randolph Memory Gardens in Rock Mills, Ala.

Surviving are his wife, Eva Galloway Nichols of Franklin, Ga.; daughter, Phillis Lesho of Sharpsburg, Ga.; two sons, Tomas Nichols of Whitesburg, Ga., and Nick Nichols, also of Whitesburg; two brothers, Amos Nichols of Augusta, Ga., and Gordon Nichols of Indianapolis, Ind.; two aunts, Gladys Brooks of Acworth, Ga. and Della Freeman of LaGrange, Ga.; six grandchildren.

Miss Delores Florine 'Boots' Patterson
Miss Delores Florine "Boots" Patterson, 36, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000 following an extended illness.

She was born March 27, 1964 in Coweta County to Larry Claude Patterson and Doris Florine Wadsworth Patterson.

Surviving are her mother Doris Florine Patterson; father and step-mother, Larry Claude and Gwen Patterson; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Denise Ann and Earl Hollaway, Patsy Gail and Andy Laster, all of Franklin, and Doris Juanita Patterson of Carrollton; brother, Robert and Samantha Patterson, of Carrollton; two nieces, Eva Patterson and Jo Ann Laster; three nephews, E. J. Hollaway, Bud Patterson and Chad Laster.

A funeral will be Friday, July 21 at 3 p.m. from Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with Rev. Clipper Henderson, Rev. Emmitt Sullivan and Rev. Billy Patterson officiating. Pallbearers will be Robert Patterson, Earl Hollaway, Tim Noles, Andy Laster, Randy Traylor, Freddie Wadsworth, Ricky Sullivan, Scott Brown and John Gentry.

Burial will be in The Star of Bethlehem Church Cemtery in Paulding County.

The family will receive freinds Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Leslie Pye Pope, 96, of Newnan and a former resident of Grantville, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20 at graveside in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange, with the Rev. Darris Baker officiating.

Mrs. Pope was born July 26, 1903 in Clay County, Alabama, daughter of the late John and Allie Mayo Harry. She had lived in Newnan since 1976, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantville, and was retired from Grantville Mills.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Willie and Jewell Pye of Newnan, Julius and Jane Pye of Smyrna; a step-daughter, Mrs. Georgia Watts of Grantville; sister, Mrs. Mary Carter of Aliceville, Alabama; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his mother, Miss Yvette Higgins; father, Kevin Ellerbe; uncle, Roger Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Y. Higgins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Robert Thomas Brewster, 76, of Newnan, died at his home Tuesday, July 19, 2000.

Mr. Brewster retired form the United States Navy as a chief electrician's mate after serving 26 years on active duty. During this time Mr. Brewster served his country in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a Free and Accepted Mason at Coweta Lodge #60 and a dedicated member of New Heights Baptist Church in Newnan, Ga.

Mr. Brewster was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Mrs. Rebecca Ball Brewster.

Surviving are his son, George N. Brewster of Norfolk, Virginia; his grandchildren, Melissa Freeberg, Crystal Brown, Hope Ball; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 23.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 24 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. D. L. Moody officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery.

Mrs. Nannie Grissom, 108, a resident of Belair at Newnan and formerly of Magnolia, New Jersey, died July 18, 2000.

She was Coweta County's oldest citizen, born August 28, 1891 in Troup County.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2000 at the chapel of Dollar Funeral Home, 229 Howard Street, N.E., Atlanta. The family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m.

The Rev. Gregory Pinson will officiate. Burial will be in College Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Partridge was born August 9, 1913 in Newnan, Ga. to Willie Ad and Mariah Hall. She was married to the late Willie A. Partridge. She was an active member of Powell Chapel United Methodist Church as long as her health would allow.

Mrs. Hulberta Peterse, 86, of Newnan, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Peterse was born March 5, 1914 in The Hague, Netherlands. She was retired as a hostess at the Rainbow Room of Rockefeller Center.

A funeral will be held at graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road, Newnan, Saturday, July 22 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Carl Greene will officiate.

There are no immediate survivors.

Mr. William R. "Bill" Betsill
Mr. William R. "Bill" Betsill, 75, died July 21, 2000, after a long illness.

Mr. Betsill operated Betsill Amoco Station in College Park for 41 years. He served in the European Theater during World War II, and upon his return home he married the former Mable Chalker on Nov. 21, 1946. Betsill was an active part of his community, having served as commander of the American Legion, and an active member and deacon of Tyrone Christian Church. He managed various baseball programs, and was deemed "Mr. Baseball." He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Diana Betsill.

A funeral will be held today, July 23, 2000, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City. Minister Wye Huxford will officiate, and burial will be in College Park Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Tyrone Christian Church, 294 Jenkins Road, Tyrone, GA, 30290.

Mrs. Owen was born Nov. 17, 1910, in Birmingham, Ala. She was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Owen.

A funeral will be held today, July 23, 2000, at 3 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Patton will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Barney Lee Scott, 72, of Whitesburg, died Monday, July 17, 2000 after several months of declining health.

Mr. Scott was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Lanett, Ala. to the late Zachery Tillman Scott and Lois Hobbs Scott. He was a retired state highway employee, and was a Protestant by faith.

A funeral was held Thursday, July 20, 2000 at the Harvest Time Holiness Church. The Revs. William Carroll, Tory Blackwelder, and Jo Britt officiate, and burial was in the Ephesus Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Terry, Mark, and Allen Vinson, Mark Britt, Robert Holloway, and Robby Ward.

Mrs. Evelyn Kee Teal, 81, of Hogansville, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Hospice LaGrange.

Mrs. Teal was born Dec. 30, 1918, in Meriwether County to the late George Waymon and Deby Norris Kee. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, was retired from Uniroyal, Inc., and was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville.

A funeral will be held today, July 23, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Jimmy Brown will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mrs. Teal.

Mrs. Calhoun was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Coweta County to the late John Drewry and Cora Lee Beckom. She was a interior designer at The Drapery Shoppe, and was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Eugene Calhoun. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Warner Robins and the Faith Sunday School Class.

A funeral will be held Monday, July 24, 2000, at 11 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins. The Revs. William Atha, Billy Atkins, Henry Calhoun, and Carl Calhoun and Dr. Tolbert Moore will officiate, and burial will be at 4 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Mr. Hector Moreno Jr., 19, of Newnan, died in LaGrange Saturday, July 22, 2000.

Mr. Moreno, a dedicated Jehovah's Witness, was born to Hector Moreno Sr. and Gloria Moreno in G.T.O., Mexico. An employee of Yamaha, he moved with his family from California to Newnan three years ago, where he attended East Coweta High School and played on the soccer team.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. Hector Moreno Sr. and Mrs. Gloria Moreno of Newnan; brothers, Mr. Saul Moreno, Mr. David Moreno, Mr. Ruben Moreno, Mr. Israel Moreno, all of Newnan; sister, Miss Mirian Moreno of Lithia Springs.

The family visitation was Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home. A funeral wake will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25 at Jones Funeral Home.

A funeral will be at graveside 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan. Mr. Ray Berrones will officiate at both the funeral wake and the graveside serice.

Mr. George Henry Lewis, 91, of East Washington St., Newnan, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at West Georgia Medical Center.

Mr. Lewis was born April 9, 1909 in Newnan, son of J. C. and Docia Lewis. He was a retired welding foreman, having worked at the former Brown Steel company in Newnan (now Caldwell Tanks). He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah C. Lewis.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan Wednesday, July 26 from 5-9 p.m.

A funeral will be at McKoon Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, July 27 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Gary Parrish and the Rev. Jimmy Fleming will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan. Pallbearers will be Brian Lewis, Jody Lewis, Bubba Thompson, Joe Thompson, Loy Thompson and Wesley Thompson.

Mr. Hector Moreno Jr., 19, of Newnan, died in LaGrange Saturday, July 22, 2000.

Mr. Moreno, a dedicated Jehovah's Witness, was born to Hector Moreno Sr. and Gloria Moreno in G.T.O., Mexico. An employee of Yamaha, he moved with his family from California to Newnan three years ago, where he attended East Coweta High School and played on the soccer team.

A funeral was Tuesday, July 25 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperly Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Helms officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Newnan.

Mr. Thomas Harrison Tullis
Mr. Thomas Harrison Tullis, 27, of Lawrenceville, died Sunday, July 23, 2000 from injuries received in an automobile accident in Gwinnett County.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Ken Lord will officiate, and burial will be in the Grantville Cemetery.

Mr. Tullis was born February 28, 1973 in DeKalb County. He lived in Gwinnett County most of his life and was a manager at Poor Richard's Bar and Grill. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mrs. Eleanor H. Harrison and Mr. Leonard Tullis.

Surviving are his parents, Gordon and Kay Tullis of Lawrenceville; son, Gabriel Evan Averit of Gainesville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert H. Tullis and Matthew H. and Amanda Tullis, all of Lawrenceville; grandparents, Jesse "Buddy" Harrison of Chamblee and Mrs. Mary M. Tullis of Snellville.

Mr. James Leon Thompson of Sharpsburg and formerly of Union City, Ga., died July 27, 2000.

(Tommy) Thompson, Stockbridge; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Bob and Jerrie Watson, Greenville; Mr. and Mrs. Jack and Hazel Priest, LaGrange, Ga.; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Billy and Carolyn Sheppard, Jonesboro; Mr. and Mrs. David and Peggy Jo Thompson, Crane, MO; grandchildren, Brooke and Peter Childers, College Park; Allison and Caitlin Thompson, Newnan; Hugh Gordon Duncan III, Sharpsburg; great-grandson, Devon Childers, College Park.

A funeral will be held Saturday, July 29, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. The Rev. Hugh Webb will officiate. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Eloise Sewell Johnson, 96, of Valdosta, Ga. and formerly of Newnan died Wednesday, July 26, 2000 at Heritage House Nursing Home.

Mrs. Johnson was born November 30, 1903 in Newnan. She worked with the former R. D. Cole Manufacturing Company in Newnan and attended Newnan Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Hardy S. Johnson and parents George W. and Delia Copeland Sewell.

A funeral will be held at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery Monday, July 31 at 11 a.m. with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating.

Mrs. Leola Smith Wood Shelnutt
Mrs. Leola Smith Wood Shelnutt, 89, of Buford, Ga., formerly of Heard County, died at the Buford Manor Nursing Home in Buford, Ga. after several years of declining heatlh.

Mrs. Shelnutt was born July 4, 1911 in Coweta County, Ga. to the late William Edgar Smith and Francis Calhoun Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husbands Leonard Wood and Frank Shelnutt. She was a homemaker and a member of Paren Baptist Church in Heard County. She had lived in Gwinnett County for the past four years.

A funeral was Sunday, July 23, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Ga. with the Rev. Talmadge Chandler officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Smith, Chuck Smith, Kline Farr, Danny Collie, Elysha Wood and Oliver Wingo.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, John and Ruth Wood of Buford, Ga.; brother-in-law, W. Y. Wood of Atlanta, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Bobby Edward Wyrosdick
Mr. Bobby Edward Wyrosdick, 50, of LaGrange, Ga., died suddenly Sunday, July 23, 2000 in Greenwood, S.C. as a result of a boating accident.

Mr. Wyrosdick was born Feb. 13, 1950 in Troy, Alabama, to the late Robert J. Wyrosdick and Ethel Lee Merredith Wyrosdick. He was an employee of Century Contractors where he was a pipe fitter. He was a Protestant by faith.

A funeral was Thursday, July 27 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Carlton Rivers officiating. A tribute written by Mr. Wyrosdick's sister Cynthia Harrington was read. Pallbearers were Jamie Harrington, J. W. Eady, Buddy Jordan, Stanley Jordan, Steve Driggers and Rickey Williams.

Surviving are his wife Carol Wyrosdick of LaGrange, Ga.; sons, Mitch and Mike Wyrosdick of Valley, Ala.; daughter, Beckey Allen of Newnan; sister, Cynthia Harrington of Hogansville, Ga.; brother, Ray Jordon of Union Springs, Ala.

Infant Campbell Jude Cole
Infant Campbell Jude Cole was stillborn on Thursday, July 27, 2000 at South Fulton Medical Center in East Point, Georgia.

Infant Cole, the first child of Mary Melinda Campbell and Brannon Joe Cole of Palmetto, was born 12 weeks premature. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Woods Campbell.

A graveside service will be held today, Sunday, July 30, 2000 at 4 p.m. at Concorde Cemetery in Concorde Georgia. The Rev. Mike White will officiate.

Surviving are his parents, and twin brother, Ryan Joe Cole; grandparents, Richard Lee Campbell of Palmetto, Lynn and Mike Keheley of Rico, and Danny Cole of Alabama; aunts and uncles Sarah Fay Campbell and Jonathan Campbell and Brandy and Joey McKoon of Palmetto, Danny Cole of Rico, and Chris, Brandon, and Kevin Keheley, also of Rico; great-grandparents Sharron and Wanda Woods of Concord, Frank and Pat Stevens of Riverdale, Opal Cole of Alabama, and Don and Virginia Keheley of Douglasville.
