Dr. David R. Bruner, 54, of 1197 Plantation Drive, Carrollton, died Saturday, August 19, 2000 at his residence.
Dr. Bruner wa born December 30, 1945 in Columbus, Ga. to the late Virgil Bruner and Ethel Bell Bruner. He attended Emory University School of Medicine for his dental and orthodonic training he was a member of the Carrollton Noon Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and member of the Citizens Bank & Trust of West Georgia Board of Directors, as well as the Carrollton First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife Mrs. Pat D. Bruner; mother, Mrs. Ethel B. Bruner of Newnan; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Marla Bruner; step-daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Brian McLeod, all of Carrollton; sister, Rita Brown of Newnan; two grndchildren, Thomas Bruner and Austin McLeod.
Private funeral serices were held Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with Mrs. Betty Baggott officiating. Pallbearers were Dr. Jimmy Morrow, Dr. Jimmy Brock, Dr. Howard Jones, Dr. Bill Pottorf, Dr. Richard Fiore and Dr. Peter Worthy. Members of the West Georgia Dental Community formed an honorary escort.
Burial was in Carroll Memory Gardens.

Mr. Jefferson was born September 20, 1914 in Palmetto, Ga. to the late Robert and Jeannie Jefferson in old Campbell County, Ga. He joined the Ramah Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the Rev. J. S. Hammond. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II for four years. He also joined J. S. Hammond Missionary Baptist Church under the Rev. W. R. Starks.
Surviving are sister Ms. Inez Jefferson; niece, Juanita Bonner; two nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Jefferson and Mr. Royce Jefferson; four great-nephews, two great nieces, a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Mr. Larry Clifford Jordan Sr., 54, of Franklin, Ga., died at his home suddenly Sunday, August 20, 2000.
Mr. Jordan was born May 9, 1946 in Smithers, West Virginia to the late Bernard Clifford Jordan and Ruth Viola Byrde Jordan. He was retired after 28 years of dedicated service to the Ford Motor Company. He served his country in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War.

Mrs. Spinks was born January 4, 1930 in Coweta County, Ga. to Charlie Robison and Dollie Wortham. She was retired office manager for Ivan Allan and was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ruth Welch, 87, of Newnan, died Sunday, August 20, 2000 at her residence at Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City.
Mrs. Welch was born December 22, 1912 in Sharpsburg, Ga. She was retired as society editor for The Newnan Times-Herald after 33 years. A graduate of Starr High School and LaGrange College, she started a nursery school in 1947 and operated it for several years befor joining the Times-Herald. She was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church for 66 years. On October 14, 2000 she and husband Theron Welch would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
The family received friends at McKoon Funeral Home Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.
A funeral will be at graveside at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, in Oak Hill Cemetery. Dr. Harry Barrow will officiate.

Mr. Barber was born September 30, 1920 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Mary) Barber. He joined the New Hope Baptist Church. He later married Alma Barber and they had seven children, one of whom, Rosa Dean Ellison, preceeded him in death.

Mr. George "Gee" Zackery
Mr. George "Gee" Zackery, 87, died Thursday, August 17, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.
A funeral was held Tuesday, August 22 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Moreland with the Rev. Norwert Hill, pastor, officiating, assisted by Evangelist Gloristein Arnold and the Rev. Ronald Grooms. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons and relatives; flower ladies were granddaughters and relatives.
Mr. Zackery was born to Mr. Raleigh and Mrs. Ginnie Lou Tinch Zackery May 8, 1913 in Moreland, Ga. and he was the tenth child of twelve children. He was a self-taught man who mastered many jobs, although he did not receive a formal education. Above all, in all of his learnings, he learned to love the Lord and joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age.
He married Ms. Opal Lee Martin, who preceded him in death. They had 12 children. He was a farmer, construction worker and pulpwooder by profession.
"Mr. Gee" believed in family unity and building strong family ties. He always enjoyed hosting the family reunion where family and friends gathered on the Fourth of July while enjoying a pit-cooked hog, freshly-caught fried fish, and a wide assortment of delicious foods.
Surviving are his companion, Frances Melson; children, Bishop and Mrs. John Timothy Martin (Juanita), Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Echols (Pat), Mrs. Helon Johnson, Ms. Lillie M. Mrs. Barbara Dee Jerman, 62, of Newnan, died Thursday, August 24, 2000 at Fayette Community Hospital.
Mrs. Jerman was born to Kenneth and Georgia Miller in Martinez, California. She attended the University of San Francisco. It was in California that Mrs. Jerman met and married her husband of 43 years, John A. Jerman. While Mr. Jerman pursued a career in the oil industry, Mrs. Jerman was a loving, patient, and caring wife and mother; the glue that held the family together.
Mrs. Jerman is survivied by her husband, John A. Jerman of Newnan; two sons, John Douglas Jerman of Beaverton, Oregon and Matthew Roger Jerman of Newnan.
Although the Jermans have been residents of Newnan for the past 12 years, they consider the Seattle, Washington area as their home. A private memorial service is planned for a later date in Seattle.

Mr. Smith was born October 17, 1937 in Spalding County. He lived in Albertville, Alabama for a number of years before making his home in Cooksville in 1991, was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vaynell Smith of Cooksville; three daughters, Mrs. Kimberly Powers of Newnan, Mrs. Leisa Smith of Cooksville and Ms. Terrie Smith of Thomaston; four sons, Bobby Lee Smith Jr. of Cooksville, James Rodney Smith of Pine Mountain, Darryl Garrison of Cooksvile and Marty Short of Buchanan; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Stanley Lewis "Stan" Steele, 40, of Newnan, died unexpectedly at his residence August 24, 2000.
A native of Newnan, he is the son of Buvenia Warren Steele and the late Lewis A. Steele. He attended Western Elementary School and graduated from Newnan High School in 1978. His professional instruction began at Georgia Tech and his degree was conferred at Southern Tech. He operated Stan Steele Surveying Inc. and was associated with SAMSOG, a professional society for surveying engineers. He was a member of Arnco Baptist Church.
Besides his mother, he is survivied by his wife, Paula Wingate Steele; children, Stanley Lewis Steele Jr. and William Sawyer Steele; sisters, Emily Steele Craft of Huntsville, Ala., Pamela Steele Beavers, and a brother, J. Doyle Steele of Newnan.
A funeral will be Saturday, August 26 at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. C.A. Jernigan and Craig Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Eddie Charles Chambers, 64, of Atlanta died Aug. 18, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center.
Mr. Chambers had worked as a machinist and security guard, and had owned two business.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at the Harper Hines Sr. Memorial Chapel in Atlanta. The remains were cremated.

Dr. George Willcox Brown, 82, of Griffin, died August 26, 2000.
A funeral will be held in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home in Griffin Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. followed by graveside services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin. Officiating will be Dr. Bruce Morgan of First Baptist Church, Griffin, and the Rev. Terry Thompkins of Wesley Woods of Newnan.
Dr. Brown was born in McCrae, Ga. August 27, 1918. He graduated from Mercer University where he was president of the Student Government, Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity, and Phi Eta Sigma Honorary Fraternity, and a member of Blue Key Honorary Scholastic Fraternity.
He graduated from the University of Georgia School of Medicine in 1943 and served an internship at St. Louis Hospital during which he was called to command the 700th Medial Hospital Platoon in World War II. During his service to his country he crossed the Atlantic 12 times in 15 months. Dr. Brown then attended the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Radiology where he was president of his class.
In 1950 Dr. Brown moved his family to Griffin, Ga., to set up a premier radiology department for the new Griffin-Spalding County Hospital where he practiced radiology until his retirement at age 66.
Dr. Brown served as president of the Georgia Radiological Society and was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin and the Griffin Kiwanis Club.
Dr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Andrews Brown; his parents, Carrie Williams and John Broadus Brown; and sister, Carolyn Brown Benson.
Surviving are wife, Rachel Bowen Brown; four children, John Frederick Brwon, George Willcox Brown Jr., Carol Ann Brown Cannon of Moultrie and Thomas Calhoun Brown; six grandchildren, Rachel Kaitz, Carrie Cannon, Thomas Brown Jr. Charles Cannon IV, Will Brown, Andrew Brown; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Kaitz.

Mrs. Barbara Anne Columbus, 57, of Newnan, died Saturday, August 26, 2000 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
A Newnan resident for the past 12 years, Mrs. Columbus was a member of St. George's Catholic Church and was a loving and devoted wife and mother.
Mrs. Columbus is survivied by her husband of 37 years, Thomas Columbus of Newnan; daughter, Madelene Anne Columbus; son, Thomas Anthony Columbus, both of Miami, Florida; and brother, Anthony Surlak of Virginia.

Ms. Karna Jane Laird, 86, of Union City, Ga., died Saturday, August 26, 2000 at Southern Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Laird was born December 4, 1913 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She was a medical technician.

Mrs. Pauline Cooper Burks, 77, of Warren, Arkansas, died Monday, August 28, 2000 at the Bradley County Medical Center in Warren.
A funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 30 in the chapel of Frazer's Funeral Home in Warren, Arkansas. The Rev. Roy Grice Jr. and the Rev. Craig Jenkins will officiate, and burial will be in the Moseley Cemetery near Warren.
Mrs. Burks was born August 8, 1923 in Bradley County, Arkansas, daughter of the late Carl and Roda Cassell Cooper. She was a lifelong resident of Bradley County, was a homemaker and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Warren.
Surviving are her husband, Clyde Burks of Warren; son, the Rev. Billy W. Burks of Hogansville, who is director of the Western Baptist Association in Newnan; daughters, Mrs. Linda Gill of Warren and Mrs. Ann Milliken of Mayflower, Arkansas; sisters, Mrs. Lucy Carter, Mrs. Betty Ragar and Mrs. Dorothy Pennington, all of Warren; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. John Coleman Clenney Jr.
Mr. John Coleman Clenney Jr., 68, of Elberton, Ga., husband of Sherry Anne Howell Clenney, died Saturday morning, August, 26, 2000 in Elbert Memorial Hospital.
He is the son of John C. Clenney Sr. of Athens, Ga. and the late Sara Brown Clenney.
Mr. Clenney was the managing supervisor of the former Elberton Mills and retired after 34 years from United Merchants Manufacturing. He also managed the Union and Buffalo Mills in Union, S.C., and Cheraw Yarn Mills, S.C. He was an honorably discharged Korean Army veteran and a member of Elberton First Baptist Church and the Vistory Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of Auburn University.
In addition to his wife and father, Mr. Clenney is survived by his two sons, John C. Clenney III of Tyrone, Ga., and Scott H. Clenney of Roswell, Ga.; his two daughters, Mary Jane Ginn of Newnan, Ga. and Karen C. McFarland of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren, Shoal Ginn, Elizabeth Ginn and Maggie Ginn, and Katie Clenney and Chandler Clenney.
A funeral was held at graveside Monday afternoon, Aug. 28, at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Arlington, Ga. with the Rev. James Mallard of Dawson First Baptist Church officiating.

Mrs. Florence Swinebroad Wilkinson Johnson
Mrs. Florence Swinebroad Wilkinson Johnson died August 29, 2000, just after her 97th birthday, at her home on LaGrange Street in Newnan.
The sixth child of George W. and Mary Smith Swinebroad's seven children, she was born and grew up in Center, Texas. A graduate of the College of Industrial Arts, Denton, Texas, she taught sciences at LaGrange College. There, in 1926, she met and married Frank Stacy Wilkinson, who preceded her in death in 1958. With him and their three children, she moved to his hometown of Newnan in 1934.
Children reared, she earned a Master's Degree in Education at the University of Georgia, served several years with the local American Red Cross and the Department of Welfare and many more with the county school system as a visiting teacher. An early Cub Scout leader, an English tutor, and a county hospital volunteer, until recently she and her husband delivered Meals-on-Wheels to the elderly. She was an active member of Newnan Presbyterian Church, especially its Ysobel Odom Bible Class and Wednesday Morning Prayer Group.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Millard B. Johnson; son, Mr. Frank Swinebroad Wilkinson and his wife Mrs. Eleanor E. Wilkinson of Haralson, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Dora W. Hicks and her husband Dr. Jim Fuller Hicks of Greenville, South Carolina, and Mrs. Olive W. Turnipseed and her husband the Rev. Robert Lawrence Turnipseed of Nutley, New Jersey; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include two sisters, Mrs. Bobbie Etheridge of San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Arra Hahne of Lakewood, Colorado.
One granddaughter preceded her in death as did her second husband, Mr.Henley Floyd.
Immediately following visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, a graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery Wednesday, August 30. Dr. Harry Barrow will officiate.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mr. Glenn Alan Hicks, Mr. Kenneth Eugene Hicks, Dr. James Stacy Hicks, Mr. Robert Lawrence Turnipseed Jr., Mr. Bradley Lewis Wilkinson, and Mr. William Stacy Wilkinson.

Mrs. Jessie Mae Mason Askew, 69, of Country Club Road, Newnan, Ga., died Saturday, August 26, 2000 at her residence.
She was born May 1, 1931 in Carroll County to Oliver Mason and Maggie Springer Mason. She was a mother and homemaker and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy "T.J." Askew; two brothers, Arthur Lee Mason and Major Mason; one son-in-law, Eugene Boyd; one grandson.

Mr. Gains G. Mitchell, 83, of Roosevelt Highway, Luthersville, Ga., died Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Mitchell was born September 9, 1916 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late Robert and Mollie (Traylor) Mitchell. He worked for the U.S. Government and was a retired auto mechanic. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Nadine Julia (Cox) Mitchell of Luthersville, Ga.; son, Ronald Mitchell of Stockbridge, Ga.; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Paschal was born August 11, 1903 in Paulding County, Ga. to Henry Lee and Martha Daniel Adair. She had lived in LaGrange since 1949. She was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church, LaGrange, Ga. and a former member of Ephesus Baptist Church in Ephesus, Ga.

Mr. Jerry Benjamin Tenney, 61, of Johnston Avenue, Palmetto, Ga., died Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Tenney was born December 27, 1938 in Haralson, Ga. He was a veteran of the U.S. armed forces.

Mr. Elzie Johnson, 91, of Cates Road, died Monday, August 28, 2000 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.
A funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Harris Chapel United Methodist Church, Palmetto, Ga. The Rev. J. Douglas Childers, pastor, and the Rev. Vincent Miller will officiate, assisted by Rev. Edward Best Jr. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Newnan, Ga. Pallbearers will be the United Methodist Men and flower ladies will be the United Methodist Women.
Mr. Johnson was born January 8, 1909 in Coweta County. He was the second of six children of the late Joshua and Jessie Fisher Johnson. He was educated in the public schools of Coweta County and Clark College. He married the former Alice I. Talley and they had three children.
At the age of seven while attending school at Saint Mark Church, he joined the church. In the early 1950s, because of declining membership, Saint Mark merged with Harris Chapel Methodist Church. For 84 years he served faithfully in various capacities of the church, including being a member of the Board of Trustees, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, UMM, delegate to the Annual Conference, Sunday School superintendent and teacher.
He was a school bus driver and farmer. He was very talented and gifted in basket weaving. For nearly 73 years he used his unique ability to take "green" white oak tree wood and create beautiful baskets, chairs, seat bottoms, tables and other furniture by just thinking of the design. He loved his family, he was strong willed, self-reliant, determined and independent. His major goal was that each of his children pursue higher education and become productive citizens.
Surviving are three daughters, Glynn (Joe) McCrary of Decatur, Ga., Jessie (Charles) Lunn of Newnan, and Hazel (Carl) Simms of Atlanta; sister, Mildred (Gene) Starks of Seattle, Washington; sister-in-law, Theola Johnson; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Carroll Ray Offutt, 61, of Villa Rica (Douglas County), Ga., died Thursday, August 24, 2000.
The son of Mrs. Orda C. Offutt and the late Mr. Robert Offutt, he was born April 18, 1939 in Mt. Zion, West Virginia. Mr. Offutt was a maintenance supervisor for Owens Corning. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grantville, Ga.
Surviving are his wife, Ann R. Offutt of Villa Rica, Ga.; mother, Orda C. Offutt of Creston, Ohio; sons, Carroll R. Mr. Edgar Leo Ramey, 67, of Newnan, died August 27, 2000.
A memorial service will be held at View Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas Friday, Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Duck, pastor, officiating.
Mr. Ramey was born October 20, 1932 in Hopkins Texas. He was an Air Force veteran and retired in 1970 as a Tech Sergeant. He moved to Dyess, Texas in 1967 where he worked in Civil Service for five years. He also managed convenience stores for 10 years. He moved to Georgia in 1998.
