Mrs. Mattie Lou Payton, 90, of Newnan, died Monday, September 18, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Payton was born March 17, 1910 in Newnan. She was a homemaker.
A funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan with the Rev. Carl Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Surviving are son, Alton and Jill Payton of Sharpsburg; daughter, Marjorie Phillips of Newnan; brother, Solomon Calhoun of Newnan; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Helen Boyd.

Mrs. Virginia Terrell died Monday, September 18, 2000 at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Ina Virginia Terrell was born January 8, 1924, to the late Dow Euclid and Salene Tucker in Cooksville, Ga. She joined Bethel Heard Baptist Church at an early age and later married Nathan Terrell. She later joined Heard Wesley United Methodist Church where she remained a faithful member until her demise. She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Tucker.
A funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at Heard Wesley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Frank Dean will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be the nephews, flower ladies will be the nieces.

Mr. Ozia Jackson died Sunday, September 17, 2000 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.
A funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Grantville with the Rev. C. Melson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Cortez Golphin, the Rev. Lowinston Jackson, and the Rev. Emmitt Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, flower ladies will be nieces.
Mr. Jackson was born March 8, 1917 to the late Olin and Exie D. Jackson. He was the second child of seven children. Two preceded him in death.
At an early age he joined the Macedonia Baptist Church. His educational training came from the Meriwether County Schools. He served in the United State Army during World War II. He was married to Hattie Houston and they had one child who preceded him in death.
Later in life he married Elizabeth Chunn, and they had five children.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Geneva Boston of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Mrs. Jackqulyn Horne of Los Angeles, California; three sons, Olin Jackson of New York City, Eugene Jackson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Leon Jackson of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Parham (Janie) of Greenville, Ga. and Mrs. Thelma Wisdom of Grantville; brothers, Melvin Jackson of Oak Grove, Kentucky, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Robert Wheelous (Albuna), Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Jackson (Katie) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; aunt, Mrs. Zora Lambert of Greenville, Ga.; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ms. Anne Neese McCannon, 40, of West Grantville Road, Newnan, died Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.
Ms. McCannon was born November 24, 1959 in Newnan.

Mr. Frank Wynn Bridges
Mr. Frank Wynn Bridges, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000 at his home.
A native of Coweta County, he and his twin brother were born October 13, 1912, the youngest of eight children born to Anna Lynn Copeland Bridges and Solomon Simeon Bridges. He graduated from Newnan High School in 1928 and received his degree from South Georgia College in 1932.
Returning to Newnan, Bridges worked in The Arnall Mills commissary until the mill was sold to Bibb Manufacturing Company. He retired from the Bibb Company in 1977, having served as the personnel manager for the company. Following his retirement from Bibb, he was a personnel consultant for various new businesses including Yokogawa Corporation, Kason Industries and Lorraine Electronics Corporation.
He was an active member of the Newnan Civitan Club for more than 55 years, a charter member of The South Metro Human Resources Association, and a member ofthe Elks Club. A member of the Central Baptist Church of Newnan, he served as a deacon for many years, was active in the church choir for 50 years, and was treasurer of The Kellam Barron Sunday School Class and was active on many of the church committees including the finance committee.
Mr. Bridges married Martha Amis of the Welcome Community in 1938. Their children are Frank Amis Bridges and Carol Bridges Starnes and her husband, William. There are three grandchildren, Captain William Starnes Jr., Dr. Benjamin Starnes and Sara Starnes Arnall. Their four great-grandchildren are Mollie Austin Starnes, Mason Starnes, Kirby Arnall and Henry Arnall.
A funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. at graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery with Dr. Joel Richardson officiating.
The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan Friday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Charlie R. Calhoun was born February 2, 1938 in Moreland, Georgia. He departed his life on September 21, 2000. He was born to the late Leola Williams and Charlie C. Calhoun. He joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age.

Linda Farmer, a housewife, passed away at the age of 56, at her home on Ozmore St. in Newnan, Georgia on September 22, 2000. The funeral will be held at Hillcrest Chapel on Sunday September 24, 2000 at 2p.m. The officiating minister is the Rev Michael Millard. The burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetary and the pallbearers will be her Nephews.
Mrs. Farmer was born in Dalton, Ga. on May 16, 1944. Her parents were Claude Bailey and Rosell Moore Bailey and she was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving are Husband, James Farmer of Newnan. Her surviving children are Debbie, Caldwell, Dalton, Jason Farmer of Newnan, and Jimmy Farmer of Newnan. Surviving grandchildren are Katrina Queen of Newnan, Wayne and April Caldwell of Dalton. She had two sisters, Claudell Mitchell and Alphie Rutledge, both of Resecca, and two brothers, Billy Bailey of Mableton and Frank Bailey of Chatsworth.

Mr. Harvey Coley Pike, 86, of Tullahoma, Tenn., died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000.
Mr. Pike was born April 11, 1914, in Newnan. He was vice president of Pike Transportation, and a veteran.

Mr. Joseph Roy Bond
Mr. Joseph Roy Bond, 88, of North Chilton, Crescent, died September 19, 2000 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.
Mr. Bond was born Oct. 20, 1911 in Danielsville, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Esty Bond. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a 1946 graduate of the University of Georgia. He had lived in LaGrange since 1949 and retired after 25 years from the U.S. Department of Agriculture soil conservation agri-services. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and of the Cattlemen Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange, where he was active in the Men's Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Lucielle C. Bond of LaGrange; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Carol and David Toney of Newnan; stepdaughter-in-law Janice Gay of Hogansville; five step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Stephen Gay and brothers, Dr. DeWitt Bond, Dr. Ellis Bond, Leo Bond and Fred Bond and a sister Louise Tyner.
A graveside service was in Shadowlawn Cemetery 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, with the Rev. Billy Colquitt officiating.

Mr. Robert David Paxton, 69, of Forest Park, died September 21, 2000.
Mr. Paxton was a retired aircraft mechanic with Eastern Air Lines for 30 years, Korean War Veteran having served in the Air Force and was a former member of Swissvale U.M.E. Church in Pittsburgh, Penn.
He was preceded in death by his son Robert Thomas Paxton.

Mattie Lou Atwater Harden was born October 19, 1899, to Mary and Albert Atwater, the eighth of their 15 children. She lived her entire life in Newnan and Coweta County, marrying Aaron Harden on May 28, 1918. They were happily married until June 5, 1977 when Aaron passed away.
They did not have children of their own, but were mother and father to many. They provided a home and loving care to brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. They also served as steady and active role models for an entire generation of youth.
Mrs. Harden was a leader in her church and community. She opened her home and also worked to provide other wholesome places where young people could have fun and yet not dilute the importance of Christ in their lives. She was the first Worthy matron of Newnan Chapter 483 OES, serving long and faithfully in the organization. A member of Burns Chapel United Methodist Church for more than a half century, she continued in her dedication to service, holding several leadership roles there. Christ was always at the head of her life and she delighted in being an active witness for him.
Surviving are sister-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Atwater; brother, Mr. Roosevelt Atwater; niece, Mrs. Patricia Donald; Mr. and Mrs. Smith Atwater (Merrian), Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Harden (Johnetta), Mr. and Mrs. Will Hardy (Denise) and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Elma Leonarda Landero Diaz, 18, of Newnan, formerly of Veracruz, Mexico, died of injuries sustained in an automobile wreck in Coweta County, Georgia on Tuesday, September 26, 2000. Mrs. Landero Diaz came to Newnan from Veracruz one year ago and attended Spanish worship and Bible Study at Newnan First Baptist Church. Also dying of injuries suffered in the same wreck was Mrs. Landero Diaz's brother, Mr. Valerio Landero Diaz.
Mrs. Landero Diaz is survived by her husband, Antonio Aceituno Garcia of Newnan; parents, Magdaleno Landero and Elvira Diaz of Veracruz, Mexico; brothers, Mario Landero, Francisco Landero, Jorge Landero, Lazaro Landero, all of Newnan, and Luis Alberto Landero and Zoilo Landero, both of VeraCruz, Mexico; sisters, Valentina Landero of Newnan, Juana Landero of North Carolina, Esperanza Landero, Luzariana Landero, and Clara Landero, all of Veracruz, Mexico.

Mr. Landero Diaz came to Newnan from Veracruz one year ago, and attended Spanish worship and Bible Study at Newnan First Baptist Church. Also dying of injuries suffered in the same wreck was Mr. Landero Diaz's sister, Mrs. Elma L. Landero Diaz.
Mr. Diaz is survived by his parents, Magdaleno Landero and Elvira Diaz of Veracruz, Mexico; brothers, Mario Landero, Francisco Landero, Jorge Landero, Lazaro Landero, all of Newnan and Luis Alberto Landero and Zoilo Landero, both of Veracruz, Mexico; sisters, Valentina Landero of Newnan, Juana Landero of North Carolina, Esperanza Landero, Luzariana Landero, and Clara Landero, all of Veracruz, Mexico.
The family was receiving friends at the Jones Funeral Home in Newnan, 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28.
A funeral will be 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sep. 29 at Jones Funeral Home. Following the funeral service, Mr. Landero Diaz's body will be returned to Veracruz, Mexico for burial there.

Mr. James Gaines
Mr. James Gaines, 73, of Kennedy Street, Atlanta, died September 23, 2000 at Grady Health Systems.
A funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hines Memorial Chapel, 595 Westlake Ave., N.W. with the Rev. Samuel Henderson, pastor of the Fruit of the Spirit Ministries Church of Atlanta. Burial will be in Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton, Ga.
Mr. James Gaines was born Oct. 29, 1927 in Twiggs County to the late C. B. Coon and willie Mae Baker. He moved from Florida to Atlanta and worked for the Southern Railroad.
Surviving are his sister, Mrs. Rosie Lee Burnett; aunts, Mrs. Rosabell Cornelius of Buffalo, N.Y., Lillian Hutchins and Kathryn Burnett, both of Macon; nieces, Mary Fletcher and Mr. & Mrs. Darryl William (Theresa) and family; nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Burnett of Atlanta, Major Burnett Jr., Willie James Burnett, all of Atlanta; uncles, Edward Hutchins and Willie Hutchins of Macon and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Erling (Earl) Joseph Hinkemeyer
Mr. Erling Joseph Hinkemeyer, 69, of Newnan, died at his home on Thursday, September 28, 2000.
Mr. Hinkemeyer was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and served on board the USS Midway. Mr. Hinkemeyer, a product analyst/technical supervisor, retired from Uniroyal/Goodrich Corporation after 31 years service. A member of St. George Catholic Church, Mr. Hinkemeyer enjoyed his retirement and the extra time he could spend with his family.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Jones Funeral Home in Newnan with Father Leo Herbert officiating.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Mrs. Mildred Barbara Hinkemeyer of Newnan; sons, Randal N. Hinkemeyer and wife Jennifer, Mark Hinkemeyer and wife Diane, both of Newnan, Boyd Hinkemeyer and wife Janet of Aurora, IL, eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Amanda Lorene Pauley
Mrs. Amanda Lorene Pauley, 84, of Newnan, died at home on Thursday, September 28, 2000.
Mrs. Pauley was born to James and Arvilla Wyatt in Roane County, West Virginia. During World War II Mrs. Pauley supported the war effort by working at the Goodyear Aircraft Company, assembling aircraft in Akron, Ohio. She moved to Newnan in September 1998 to live with her family. Since moving to Newnan Mrs. Pauley has been attending Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Franklin, Ga.
Mrs. Pauley is preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Roma D. Pauley, four brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are her son, Joseph D. Pauley of West Virginia; sister, Elnore and her husband, Herb Gore of Newnan; and special friends, Lenise, Loren, and Tyler Sellers of West Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Jones Funeral Home in Newnan.
A funeral will be held at graveside at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Parkersburg, West Virginia on Monday, Oct. 2.
