Mr. Brice Cook, 79, of Newnan died at Newnan Hospital on Saturday, September 30, 2000.
Mr. Cook was retired from the Streets Department of the City of Newnan.
Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Hattie Lee Phillips Cook; two brothers, David Franklin Cook and James Cook; three sisters, Minnie Bell Cook Carroll, Ada Lou Cook Pritchard and Lora Mae Cook Richardson.
He is survived by 13 nieces and newphews.

Miss Drake was born October 7, 1975 in LaGrange, Ga. and was a 1997 Special Education Graduate of East Coweta High School.

Former Heard County resident Mrs. Ninner Belle Jackson Wood, 97, of Austell, died Wednesday at the Wellstar Hospital in Douglasville.
Mrs. Wood was born March 3, 1903 in Heard County, the daughter of Rufus E. Jackson and Betty Nutt Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bernie Wood and daughter, Ruth Dyer. Mrs. Wood and her husband were merchants in Heard County for many years. She was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church.
The funeral was Thursday from the Chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Marion Shivers officiating. Music was by Bonita Wortham. Pallbearers were Robert Nelms, Hugh Nelms, Donnie Nelms, Harvey Shelnurr, Cary Jackson and Tim Jackson. Burial was in the Franklin City Cemetery.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Louie and Linda Wood of Lithia Springs; one grandson and daughter-in-law, John and Joy Dyer of Alpharetta; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Pope Dyer of Alpharetta; one sister, Sarah Gosdin of Jonesboro.

Mr. Erling Joseph Hinkemeyer, 69, of Newnan, died at his home on Thursday, September 28, 2000.
Mr. Hinkemeyer was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and served on board the USS Midway. Mr. Hinkemeyer, a product analyst/technical supervisor, retired from Uniroyal/Goodrich Corporation after 31 years service. A member of St. George Catholic Church, Mr. Hinkemeyer enjoyed his retirement and the extra time he could spend with his family.
A memorial service was 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Jones Funeral Home in Newnan with Father Leo Herbert officiating.

Mrs. Velma Frances Harrison Hinesley, 76, of Morris Road, Newnan, died Sunday, October 1, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Hinesley was born April 20, 1924 to the late Joseph Byron and Mary Etoy Harrison. She was a retired ward clerk for the former Coweta General Hospital.
The family was receiving friends Monday from 7-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.
A funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Helms and the Rev. Bill Dean officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Robert Arthur Josephs
Mr. Robert Arthur Josephs, 79, of the Powers' Crossroads area of Coweta County, died October 2, 2000.
Mr. Josephs was born Sept. 30, 1921, the son of Robert and Minnie Josephs of Brooklyn, N.Y. He attended New York University and worked on Wall Street in the late 1930s. He served in the Army Air Force in World War II, flying 28 missions. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He moved from Charlotte, North Carolina to Newnan in 1965. He was so proud of his new hometown that he told old friends that the only place he needed money was the post office.
He and his wife Betty built their home near Powers' Crossroads. His proudest accomplishment was joining the (then-named) Coweta County Volunteer Fire Department. He and his neighbors built their own station from the ground up for Station 5.
Josephs began flying with Eastern Air Lines in 1953 and retired in 1985.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Betty McDonald Josephs; daughter Margie Wyant of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; son, Robert (Dianne) Josephs of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Robert Wyant of Sarasota, Fla., Morgan and Emily Josephs of Houston, Texas; great-granddaughters Brittany, Jessica, Lauren and Amber Wyant of Baltimore, Maryland; sister and brother-in-law Sharlee and Dan Duff of Richmond, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Glenn Alan Wyant.

Mr. John Thomas Coutee, 73, of Couch Street, Moreland, Ga., died Tuesday, October 3, 2000 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Mr. Coutee was born February 20, 1927 in Montrose, LA. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a career Army officer-retired, and will be buried with full military honors. He was a member of Moreland First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Merle Stone Craven, 65, of Thomasville, Ga., and a native of Hogansville, died Monday, October 2, 2000 at her home.

Mrs. Craven was born June 30, 1935 in Hogansville, daughter of the late Allen and Claudia Elder Stone. She lived in Morrow for 20 years before making her home in Thomasville in 1993, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Juanita Peel Goodson, 69, of Franklin, Ga. were held Monday, October 2, 2000 at 4 p.m. at the Franklin United Methodist Church with the Revs. Leslie Tusco, Rick McMahan and Archie Gibelli officiating.
The Heard County Nutrition Center singers sang "I'll Fly Away," accompanied by Nancy Heard on piano. Special words of remembrance were offered by longtime friend and co-worker Carolyn Booth Knight. Mrs. Goodson's granddaughter paid tribute to her grandmother with a scripture base which told of the wonderful contribution her "Maw Maw" had made to her life, her other grandchildren, children, her husband, and all those who knew her. Pat Goodson McGrady, daughter, sang "The Wind Beneath My Wings," accompanied by Marie Jackson.
Burial was in Franklin City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donnie Dunlap, Larry McGrady, Benjamin Hill, Neil Moncrief, Mike Simpson and Mark Simpson.
Mrs. Goodson was born Oct. 18, 1930 in Crawford County, Ga. to Jessie Blackwell Peel and the late Clarence Mosely Peel. She moved to Heard County as a young registered nurse to work at the Heard County Memorial Hospital where she became a tremendous asset, and much loved by the whole county for her professional skill but most of all for her quiet spirit and love for her Lord which she demonstrated through action and deed. Through the course of her career she also served at Coweta General Hospital in Newnan, Ga., and in the office of Dr. Mark Whitehead Jr. in LaGrange. She was employed by the Heard County Senior Center and was an active and vital member of the Franklin United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Hugh Goodson of Franklin, Ga.; children, Pat and Larry McGrady of LaGrange, Ga., Diane and Donny Dunlap of Franklin, Ga. and Buddy Goodson, all of Franklin, Ga.; mother, Jessie Blackwell Peel of Roberta, Ga.; sisters, Claire Mattox also of Roberta, Ga. and Carlise Moncrief of Americus, Ga.; five grandchildren; a host of loving friends.

Mrs. Mary Darnell Harper
Mrs. Mary Darnell Harper, 89, died October 3, 2000.
Mrs. Harper was born June 2, 1921 and raised in Atlanta, Ga. She married Clinton Harper in 1942. A strong woman who loved her family deeply, she made her house a real home where anyone would feel welcome. In addition to raising nine children, she worked in hotel services for the Quality Inn of Brunswick. She was also a partner with her husband, Clinton, in running 2 Way Fish Camp in the same city, retiring from both in May 1984. Mr. and Mrs. Harper then returned to Midland, Michigan, where they had lived during the 1950s and 1960s. Four of her children still reside in Midland. In 1993 they settled in Newnan, Ga. to enjoy the climate and be close to their other children.
Surviving children are: June (Gene) Shelley of Midland, MI; Phyllis Harper of Breckinridge, MI; Cynthia (Jeffrey) Brant of Newnan, Valerie (David) Ratajczak of Midland, MI, James (Christine) Harper of Midland, MI; Ralph (Brenda) Harper of Douglasville, Ga.; Everett Harper of Newnan, Ga. and Mark Harper of Stockbridge, Ga.; sisters, Katherine Powell, Floranell Parker and Linda Williams and a borther, Raymond Darnell. She leaves nine grandchildren, James, Stephen, Justin and Jason Harper; Jennifer Hill, Heather Shelley, Eric and Bryan Smith; Marika Jacobs and Cheyenne Brant. Great-grandchildren are Austen and Dallis Jacobs, Joshua Sturdavant and Rachael and Kaitlynn Harper.
She is preceded n death by husband Clinton Harper in 1995, son Brian Harper in 1985, sister Diane Darnell and two brothers, Leon and Roger Darnell.

Dr. Ralph E. Hibbs
Dr. Ralph Emerson Hibbs, 87, of Medford, Ore died Oct. 1, 2000 at his residence.
Dr. Hibbs was born July 23, 1913 in Hiteman, Iowa, son of the late Newton and Laura Swan Hibbs. He earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Iowa and his MD degree from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1936.
During World War II, he served as chief surgeon with the U. S. Army's 31st Infantry Division near Manila. He was part of the Bataan Death March and spent three years at Cabanatuan Prison Camp 1 in the Philippines. He wrote a book about his wartime experiences, "Tell MacArthur To Wait."
Dr. Hibbs moved to the Medford area around 1950. He was a founding member of Doctor's Clinic in Medford, retiring in 1984. He did medical missions volunteer work after his retirement and served as president of the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners in 1978-79.
Dr. Hibbs was a founding member of the Medford Linebackers, a Past Grand Master of Medford Elks Lodge 1168 and an active member of Toastmasters.
On March 31, 1946 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, he married Jeanne Howard, who died in August 1986. He also was preceded in death by a brother, David Hibbs; and a sister, Virginia Collier.
On Nov. 30, 1991 in Medford, he married Virginia Moffett Caldwell, widow of Coweta County born novelist Erskine Caldwell. Dr. and Mrs. Hibbs visited Caldwell's birthplace in Moreland in 1992. During the same visit, Dr. Hibbs spoke at Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Alvaton about his medical missions experiences.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. Pacific Time at Rogue Valley Manor Tower in Medford with Pastor Alan Jackson of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hibbs of Medford; daughters, Jill Hibbs of Beaverton, Ore., Jennifer Eastberg of Oregon City, Ore.; sons, Jack Hibbs of Florence, Ore., Stephen Hibbs of Orangevale, Calif.; sister, Elizabeth Blagg of Colorado Springs, Colo; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Ieula Roberts Lyles, 84, died October 2, 2000 at Newnan Hospital.
She was born April 11, 1916 to the late Florella Grier Roberts and Sammy Roberts. She joined the St. John Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully until her health failed.
Her husband, Everette Lyles and a son, Harold Fisher, preceded her in death, as did a number of brothers and sisters: Preston Roberts (Pap), Andrew Roberts (Shoot), Oliver Roberts (Bish), Willie Mack Roberts, James Roberts (Shur), Coley Roberts, Mrs. Fannie Mae Smith and Mrs. Carrie Lee Pittman.
Surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Robert B. McKoon, 79, of Newnan, died Saturday, September 30, 2000, at his home.
Mr. McKoon was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Luthersville. He was the former owner of McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, and a retired funeral director and embalmer.
A graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 2, at 4:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan. The Revs. Gary Parrish, Larry Patton, and Bill Curington officiated.

Funeral services for Mr. Willie Grey Phillips, 96, were held Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Dewaine Shadix officiating.
Music was provided by Tina and Burl Holloway and David Bryan. Pallbearers were grandsons, Danny Phillips, Doyle Phillips, Donald Phillips, Maylon Phillips Jr., Harold Turner and Jimmy Eggert. Mr. Phillips was born June 17, 1904 in Heard County, Ga. to the late Margaret Bailey Phillips and Brewer Phillips. He was preceded in death by his wife Clara Sheets Phillips. For many years "Mr. Willie" served the children of Heard County as one of their most beloved bus drivers. He was retired form the Heard County Department of Education and the Franklin Aluminum Plant where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a faithful member of the Red Oak Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including most of the church offices.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lurlene and Donald Safian of Franklin, Ga. and Margaret and Lee Eggert of Illinois; three sons and daughters-in-law, Maylon and Louise Phillips, James and Betty Phillips and Joel and Linda Phillips, all of Franklin, Ga.; brother, Major Phillips, also of Franklin, Ga; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

He was born May 25, 1914 in Carroll County to the late Henry Lewis Clark and Emma Byrd Clark. He retired from Banning Yarn Mills where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of the Ephesus Christian Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Richardson; five sisters, Fay Barnes, Ruby Barnes, Lucille Kelly, Hattie Smith and Lillian Hinesly; five brothers, W. L. Clark, Jeff Clark, Ray Clark, Homer and Comer Clark.
Surviving are his wife, Zona Lee Pierce Clark of Whitesburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Jimmy Cook of Moreland and Diane and David Berry of Carrollton; son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Linda Clark of Whitesburg; brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Anita Clark of Whitesburg; grandchildren, Leslie Richards, Veronica Richardson, Rodney Clark and Steve Berry; six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. at Ephesus Christian Church with Minister J. C. Cook and the Rev. Gordon Willingham officiating. Pallbearers will be Terry Richardson, Tommy Barnes, John Groce, Lee Turner, Terry Patterson and Richard Griffin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Millard Farmer Hubbard
Mr. Millard Farmer Hubbard, 88, of Cedar Hill Drive in Jackson, Mississippi, a former manager of the Jackson Lamp Works of General Electric, died Thursday, October 5, 2000 at St. Catherine's Village of heart failure.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Hubbard was a native of Newnan, Ga. He graduated from Georgia School of Technology in 1935 with a degree in electrical engineering, and in that same year was accepted by General Electric to go on test in Schnectady, New York. From there he worked as a quality engineer in GE plants in Pittsfield, Massachussetts; Newark, New Jersey; and also in GE operations at Seaboard Lamp, Trumbull Lamp and East Cleveland Lamp. From the lamp department in Cleveland, Ohio, he came to Jackson in 1939 as quality engineer to assist in the opening of General Electric's flourescent lamp plant. He was promoted to plant manager in 1948, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1976. During WWII, the Jackson Lamp Works was declared an essential defense industry, and Mr. Hubbard remained in his post as chief quality engineer when GE operated a seven day week, 24 hours a day, for several years.
He served in the First Presbyterian Church as both a deacon and elder, and for many years was superintendent of the Junior Department. He was a long-time member of the Jackson Rotary Club, the River Hills Tennis Club and the Mississippi Manufacturers' Association, serving as its president in 1965-1966. His board services included the American Red Cross, the United Givers Fund, the Jackson School Board and the Young Men's Christian Association.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Adams Hubbard of Jackson, MS; daughters, Jane Hubbard Anderson of Cary, N.C., and Sally Adams Hubbard Towns of Baton Rouge, LA; son, William Millard Hubbard of Jackson and Greenwood; three grandchildren.

Mrs. Merle Hall Walker, 85, of Tifton, Ga., died October 5, 2000 at Southern Regional Hospital in Riverdale, Ga.
Mrs. Walker was born June 22, 1915 in Tift County, daughter of John Hall and Donie O'Quinn Hall. She had lived in Tift County most of her life, was a homemaker and member of Wayside Baptist Church. She was first marrked to Earl Robinson Rowland and later Julian B. Walker, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Claude W. Rowland and a granddaughter, Bonnie Cranford Terry.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Humphrey Roe, 84, of Newnan, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City.
Mrs. Roe was born May 25, 1916, in Elyria, Ohio. She graduated from Elyria High School and Kent State University, and was a teacher in the Elyria School System for 25 years. She moved to Newnan in 1995. Mrs. Roe was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Roe.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at 11 a.m. at St. Georgia Catholic Church. Father Leo Herbert will officiate. Mr. Hinesley was born July 27, 1926, in Newnan. He retired from the William Bonnell Company after 30 years, where he was die shop superintendent. He was a member of Coweta Masonic Lodge 60 F&AM, and was a veteran.

Mr. Johnson was born March 3, 1919, in Coweta County to the late Wade and Maggie Crane Johnson. Mr. Johnson joined Elim Baptist Church at an early age.

Mrs. Edna S. Ozmore, 76, of Watkinsville, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at her home.
Mrs. Ozmore was born in Carroll County to the late Benjamin and Emma Arnold Sewell. She was retired, and was a member of the World Wide Church of God in Athens. She had lived in Watkinsville for 31 years.

Mr. James Louis Coursey Sr., 77, of Butler and a former resident of Luthersville, Ga., died Sunday, October 8, 2000 at Upson Regional Hospital.

Mr. Coursey was born December 25, 1922 in Newnan, son of the late Pink and Cynthia Williams Coursey. He lived in Coweta and Meriwether Counties most of his life before making his home in Butler a year ago, and was a farmer.

Mr. B. A. Hobby
Mr. Berrian Andrew "B. A." Hobby, 77, of Sharpsburg, died Sunday, October 8, 2000 at Newnan Hospital after an extended period of illness.
Mr. Hobby, a beloved husband, father and friend, was born in Gordy, Ga. January 6, 1923. He was the son of the late Joseph A. and Ruby (Callaway) Hobby. On Jan. 6, 1942 he married Virginia Bishop Hobby, and they were married 58 years.
B. A. Hobby became a resident of Coweta County in 1969. He was a member of the White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Senoia, where he served as a deacon for 27 years. Before retiring in 1985, he had worked 36 years as a supervisor for Southern Bell.
Mr. Hobby was a World War II veteran who served in Italy, Germany and France with the Army Air Forces' 64th fighter wing. He was decorated with a purple heart for an injury he received while in France. He was one of six men who founded the Coweta County Volunteer Fire Department and had served 17 years on the Fire Commission, for the life of the board.
He is survivied by his wife, Virginia Bishop Hobby, Sharpsburg; sons and their families, Barrie A. Hobby, Mr. and Mrs. Judge C. Hobby, Mr. and Mrs. Joedy A. Hobby, Mr. and Mrs. Julian S. Hobby, Mr. and Mrs. Marlin G. Hobby, and Mitchell Hobby, all of whom reside in Coweta County; 15 grandchildren, Hayden, Berry, Destiny, Christian, Cameron, Andy, Randy, Joey, Barry, Jenny, Shane, Mitchell, Brandon, Adrienne and Mitchell Kelly Hobby; sister, Mrs. Wanda Walters of New Jersey; mother-in-law, Mrs. Lois Bishop of Atlanta.
