Mrs. Willie Mae Daniel Arnold, 82, of Atlanta died November 24, 2000 at Atlanta Medical Center.
Mrs. Arnold, better known as "Sister," was born August 11, 1918 in Coweta County to the late Burdett Daniel and Fannie White Daniel. She married Mr. Ervin Arnold of Newnan. At an early age she joined the St. John Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and served as an usher for many years. She later moved to Atlanta where she remained until her death.
A funeral was Thursday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church in Shenandoah. The Rev. Willie V. Orr was eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Harvey Peek and other ministers. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cousins and friends served as pallbearers, and nephews were honorary pallbearers.
Surviving are a son, B. C. Roberts; grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey (Pam) Roberts; three great-grandchildren, Jamekia Roberts, Banica Roberts and Samantha Heard; sister-in-law, Mrs. Hattie J. Daniel, all of Atlanta; six nephews and four nieces of Newnan; a host of other close relatives and friends; and a close family friend, Ms. Kathie Jones.

Little Miss Rainé Nakiya Hicks
Little Miss Rainé Nakiya Hicks, age 3, of Jonesboro, died November 28, 2000 at Egleston Children's Hospital at Emory University in Atlanta.
She was born August 11, 1997 in Fulton County and attended the Christian School at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. She loved dancing and gymnastics, and pink was her favorite color.
A funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. at White Oak Grove Baptist Church in Senoia. Elder Michael Penson will be eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth Bailey, Evangelist Doris Dowell, Sis. Angela C. Sheffield and other ministers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The cousins will serve as pallbearers.
Surviving are parents, Nicholas and Jennifer Hicks; sister, Ashley Hicks; grandparents, Trellis Hill, William Lewis (Bridgett) Hill, Carolyn Hicks and Jarvis (Gail) Warner; great-grandparents, Eunice Kendall, John H. Mr. Wayne O'Neal
Mr. Wayne O'Neal, 67, of Jasper, Ga., died unexpectedly at his work in Cumming November 24, 2000.
Mr. O'Neal was a native of Coweta County, Ga., son of the late Harold and Zella Farr O'Neal. He graduated from Grantville High School in 1951 and soon thereafter entered the U.S. Army, where he was a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge he went to Auburn University. He was the owner of a real estate agency for many years.
He was a member of Jasper United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent. He also served at varous intervals as chairman of the Administrative Board; chairman of the Pastoral Relations Committee; and many other positions.
Mr. O'Neal was very service-minded. He was a member and served twice as president of the Jasper Lions Club. He was a Past District Governor of Lions International District 18-A, a Melvin Jones Fellow and received several International Presidential Awards.
Surviving are his wife, Dell Marie Smith O'Neal; daughters Malanie Moore, Roswell, and Bonnie O'Neal, St. Simons Island; brother, Paul O'Neal, Cartersville; sisters, Shirley McCarty, LaGrange, and Mary Ann Smith, Grantville; three grandsons, Hammond, Zack and Ashby Moore, all of Roswell; sister-in-law, Suzette Smith Justiss of Grantville; nephews Jeff Justiss, Newnan, and Ted Justiss, Alpharetta.
A funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Jasper United Methodist Church with the Revs. Herb Flanders and Max Caylor officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Bill Boggs, Alvin Young, Broward Garrison, Jay Moss, Jimmy Weeks, A. C. Moore, Sherrell Duckworth and Bill Burnette. Honorary escorts were Jasper Lions Club and District 18-A Lions International Past District Governors.
In lieu of flowers, donations were directed to the bus ministry of Jasper United Methodist Church or to the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind.

Mr. Alden Farrelly Hays
Mr. Alden Farrelly Hays, 76, will be remembered in funeral services Saturday.
Mr. Hays was born January 6, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1941 Mr. Hays enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. His Final was Grade Chief Petty Officer aboard the Battleship Mississippi. Soon after the Battle of Pearl Harbor the Mississippi steamed from Iceland to Pearl Harbor to assist the other naval vessels. In 1950, Mr.Hays received an honorable discharge and relocated to Atlanta, Ga., where he worked in residential construction with Jerry Ballard homes until retirement in 1989. He was an active Mason where he was a member of the Grand Lodge of Georgia. He was an avid lover of roses and volunteered his time to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Mr. Hays was a man who treasured his family above all else.
Surviving are his wife, Fay Coleman Hays; daughters, Robin Garner, Atlanta, Muriel Diguette, Atlanta, Linda Kidney, Greenville, S.C., Rebecca Burnett, Norcorss, Jennifer Oden, Dunwoody, Lesley Lewey, Dunwoody; sons, Jay Hays, Cleveland, Ohio, James Hays, Acworth, Tom Oden, Conyers; sister, Elizabeth Schoenfeld, Chico, California; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Arlington Cemetery Chapel.

Mrs. Arlena Stevenson Partridge, 83, of Newnan, died November 29, 2000 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.
Mrs. Partridge was born May 24, 1917 in Coweta County. She was a kind, loving, generous mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was married to the late L. M. Partridge, and they had 16 children. Twelve preceded her in death.
She joined the Evergreen Methodist Church at an early age. Later she joined the Russell Temple A.M.E. Church where she was a faithful member until her illness.
A funeral will be Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. at Summer Hill Baptist Church in Moreland. The Rev. G. B. Vaughn will be eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Ashley Stewartson, the Rev. Robert Teagle an the Rev. Hulon Kemp. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Summer Hill Baptist Church Deacon's Board.
Surviving are daughter, the Rev. and Mrs. Johnny (Rowena) Coleman; three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Millard (Connie) Partridge, L. M. Mrs. Daisy Smith Johnson, 82, of Union City died Friday, December 1, 2000.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sudnay, December 3, 2000 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, Ga. The Reverend David Pickard will officiate. The burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
Johnson was born June 9, 1918 in Heard County daughter of the late Tom and Sallie Dean Smith. Before making her home in Union City last year, she lived in Hogansville most of her life. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Hogansville.
Preceding her in death other than her parents was her husband E.C. Johnson.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Barge Garner of Fayettevill, two granddaughters Gail Gordon of Stockbridge and Lynn Coe of Newnan, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Brookie Mayers, 79, died Saturday, December 2, 2000 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah, Ga.
He was a native and life long resident of Appling Counnty, Ga. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as the assistant Sunday School teacher for the R. C. Crosby Sunday School Class. He was an ordained deacon. He was a member of the Holmesville Masonic Lodge #195. Mr. Mayers was the owner and operator of the Pine Lodge Motel, Security Lock and Key and the U Lock and U Store Storage Units. He retired from the U.S. Post Office as a Rural Route Mail Carrier. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the United States Marines. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Harrington, and was the son of the late K. C. Mayers and the late Mymie Hall.
Surviving are his wife, Fern Mayers of Baxley, Ga.; two daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda and James Cox of Fayetteville, Ga., Becky and Don Maloy of Dallas, Ga. and Gil Harrington of Eastman; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Mayers and Lee Mayers, both of Baxley; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was 2 p.m. Tuesday from First Baptist Church in Baxley with the Rev. John Hutcheson, the Rev. Jay Meadows and the Rev. Paul Dubberly officiating. Burial followed in the Zoar Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Hutcheson Jr., Timothy Hutcheson, Joseph Hutcheson, Nathan Hutcheson, Edsel Mayers and Larry Britt. Honorary pallbearers were members of the R. C. Mrs. Thelma C. Parker, 95, formerly a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, died December 4, 2000.

Surviving are her niece, Vicki and husband Donald Devlin of Norcross; nephew, David and wife Darlene Cornelison of Fayetteville; grandnieces, Debbie Bell of Griffin, Cathy Jones of Oakdale, Penn.; grandnephews, Eric Devlin of Stockbridge, Ga. and Keith Devlin of Gotha, Florida; one great-grandniece and four great-grandnephews. She is also survivied by stepdaughter Helen and husband Jack Ramsey of Tucson, Arizona and stepdaughter June Glenn and husband Jimmy of Montgomery, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her brother Verner Cornelison.
Prior to her move to Newnan in 1998 she had been a resident of Montgomery since 1953. Upon moving to Montgomery she quickly became active in garden club and helped to start the first Flower Show School in the Montgomery Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. Her longtime involvement in gardening brought leadership as a Master Judge, Corresponding Secretary for Garden Club of Alabama, Inc.; Protocol Chairman for four presidents of GCA; Awards Chairman and Editor of "Hortensia," the quarterly state publication; 2nd and 1st Vice Presidents and finally President of GSA. She was instrumental in putting on the first Landscape Design School in Alabama; brought her gardening and Christmas decorating expertise to the youth at Baldwin and Lee High Schools and also worked with Boy and Girl Scouts, teaching them so that they could earn their Nature Badges. She was a longtime member of the Board of Deep South Region of Garden Clubs. Mrs. Parker helped establish and was one of the first officers of the Helen Keller Fragrance Garden for the Blind in Talladega, Alabama, and a long-time Chairman. She was also a member of the Canterbury Bells Garden Club of Montgomery. As one of her friends in the club said, "Thelma has been a very active contibuting woman all her life and we realize what an inspiration she has been to us. She taught us many things but, most importantly, to always do our very best. We considered her the master teacher for all facets of garden club work."
Besides her garden club activities, Mrs. Parker found time in 1963, along with 13 others to establish Pink Ladies at Baptist Hospital and to continue as a volunteer until 1996. She was one of three to organize Keep Montgomery Beautiful, Inc. in 1971. Her most creative talent outside of garden club work was the creation of beautiful eggs decorated inthe Faberge manner.

Mr. Thomas Gerry Quigley, 59, of Donahoo Lane, Sylacauga, Ala., died Thursday, November 30, 2000 at his home.
Mr. Quigley was born January 6, 1941 in Newnan, Ga. He worked as a truck driver for Ellis Trucking. A U.S. veteran, he served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church.

Mr. Edgar Arrington, 89, of Franklin, Ga., the Simpson Community, died at his home December 5, 2000 after several years of declining health.
Mr. Arrington was born August 22, 1911 in Heard County, Ga. to the late Charlie Arrington and Bessie Dowdy Arrington. He was a retired machine operator for the William L Bonnell Company in Newnan. Mr. Arrington spent many of his younger years in the farming industry. He was a faithful member of the New Springs Methodist Church. He was a much loved husband and father.
A funeral will be Friday, December 8 at 4 p.m. at New Springs Methodist Church with the Reverends Larry McDaniel and Ray Franklin Singer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Grimes was born January 13, 1931 in Nashville, Tenn. She worked in the health care field as an eligibility clerk. She was a four-year college graduate and a member of Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. She also taught school in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Mr. James Vernon "Jay" Lewis Jr., 60, of Newnan, died at his home Wednesday, December 6, 2000.
Mr. Lewis was born in Forsyth County, North Carolina and moved to Newnan six years ago. Mr. Lewis was a professional truck driver and attended Miracle Tabernacle Worship center. Mr. Lewis was deeply loved by his family. He will always be remembered for the love and kindness shown to them.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, James Vernon Lewis Sr. and Susie Mae Lewis.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Patricia Lewis of Newnan; son, Mr. W. L. Mrs. Elizabeth Parks Passavant, life-long resident of Newnan, died at age 97 in Marquis Care of Oregon City, Oregon, Monday, November 27, 2000 after a brief illness.
She was the widow of the late O. W. Passavant, long-time resident of Newnan and former editor of the Newnan Herald.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Drake Shipper of Roswell, Ga.; granddaughter, Cecelia Waldrop Kauffman, Roswell; great-grandson, Case Drake Kauffman of Roswell; two grandsons, James Caswell Waldrop III of Chamblee, Ga. and John Page Waldrop of Decatur, Ga. She is also survivied by the children of her late sister, Llewellyn Parks Perkerson, of Newnan, Angus Millard Perkerson III of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, James Frederick Perkerson of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; Byrd Parks Perkerson of Decatur, Ga. and Marie Perkerson Herman, of Arroyo Grande, California.
Cremation was a Wilhelm Funeral Home in Portland, Oregon. A memorial service will be held in the Byrd Parks family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan at a date to be announced later.

Mrs. Leila Burson Walls, 94, of Jackson's Gap, Alabama, formerly of Hogansville, died Thursday, December 7, 2000 at Dadeville Healthcare Center in Dadeville, Alabama.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. R. C. Prescott will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
Mrs. Walls was born October 10, 1906 in Randolph County, Alabama, daughter of the late James Cody Burson and the late Lois Robinson Burson. Before making her home in Jackson's Gap in 1987, she lived inHogansville most of her life; was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville; and was the wife the late D. R. Walls.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and L. H. George of Jackson's Gap, Marian and Thomas Pike and Jan and Jerome Chaffin, all of Hogansville; son and daughter-in-law, Burson and Lilo Walls of Baltimore, Maryland; brother, Kenneth Burson of LaGrange; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

Evelyn Bruce Mobley, 83, of Douglasville died Saturday December 9, 2000. She was born May 27, 1917 in Nashville, TN to the late Freeman and Lilian Bruce.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 11, 2000 at Hightower Memorial Chapel. Dr. John Pennington will officiate. The burial will follow at 1 p.m. at College Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Hightower Funeral Home.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Parker Mobley. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis E. Mrs. Avis Keith Hammond, 87, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Rev. Harold Willis officiating.
Mrs. Hammond was born September 27, 1913 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late James Cheatham Keith and the late Mattie Denney Keith. She was a lifelong resident of Hogansville, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hogansville, and was the wife of the late Render T. Hammond.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews, and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Peachtree City Fire Chief Gerald Reed
Peachtree City Fire Chief Gerald F. Reed, Jr., 51, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Saturday at Emory University Hospital following a lengthy illness with cancer.
Viewing will be at C.J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, 200 Robinson Rd., Peachtree City on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial Services with full Honors will be held at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 101 Peachtree Pkwy. North, Peachtree City at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
A honor procession of fire apparatus will carry the chief's body through Peachtree City before and after the service.
Chief Reed was born on September 13, 1949 in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Maryland. He served four years in the United States Army, and moved to Peachtree City, Ga., in 1973.
Chief Reed joined the Peachtree City Fire Department as a volunteer Firefighter in 1975, when Peachtree City had fewer than 2,500 residents. He was hired as an employee in February of 1976, promoted to the rank of Captain in 1980, and named Acting Fire Chief in March 1983. Appointed as Fire Chief in April 1983, Reed became the second person to serve in that capacity for the Peachtree City Fire Department.
Under Reed's leadership as Chief, the Peachtree City Fire Department grew from a primarily volunteer department with eight full-time employees and two fire stations to a department with 43 full-time firefighters, 45 volunteer firefighters and four fire stations, serving a population of over 34,000 residents in 2000.
Chief Reed is survived by his daughters, April Reed and Michelle Callahan, and three grandchildren.
