Mrs. Edna S. Beavers Crawford, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Crawford was born Feb. 27, 1914, in Vienna, Ga., to the late William Martin and Nora Pearl Jeter Spradlin. Mrs. Crawford worked as a nurse's aid at Newnan Hospital, Beaulieu Convalescent Center, Humana Hospital and Starcrest Nursing Home. After retiring, she devoted her life to being a homemakers. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ross Beavers.
A funeral will be held today, Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Providence Baptist Church in Newnan. The Revs. Ken Norton and J.W. Russell, Jr., will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Crawford; daughter and son-in-law Frank and Joyce Beavers Baxter; grandchildren Franklin Ross (Linda) Baxter, Barry Frederick (Lanita) Baxter, Pamela Joyce Baxter (James) Fuller; great-grandchildren Christopher Ross Baxter, Christy Marie Fuller, Barbara Josephine Fuller, Amber Nicole Fuller, Pamela Joyce Edna Fuller; step-son Robert Lassetter Crawford; step-grandchildren Robbie Crawford, and Jennifer Crawford; step great-grandchildren Allen Russell (Dawn) Harmon, and Alice Ruth Harmon; and sister Ruth Jackson and her husband Glenn.

Mr. J.C. "Slim" Cruver, of Atlanta, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001.
Surviving are his sister, Emma Lowe, and brothers Thomas Cruver and Wilbert Cruver, all of Newnan.

Mrs. Guessie M. Ware
Mrs. Guessie M. Ware, 74, of Newnan died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at her daughter's home.
Mrs. Ware was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Spalding County to the late Leroy and Lillie Scandrick. She attended Spalding County schools and taught in the Fayette County School System. She married the late Eddie Ware in 1945 and relocated to Newnan. In 1962 she moved her church membership to the Triumph Holiness Church of God and Christ, where she served as secretary, taught School of Wisdom, and served as leader to the Young People Educational Band. She organized fund raisers for young graduates, and served as a spiritual counselor in the area.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home. Bishop James Keith will officiate, and burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Derrell Jordan, Chris Ware, Shawn Herring, Samuel Freeman, Stan Freeman, Derrell Bailey, Kinsley Ware and Kenric Ware. Flower ladies will be Monica Jordan, Sandy Ware, Christy Ware, Jemeka Bailey, Denise Ware, and Michelle Ware.
The family will receive visitors this evening, Monday, Feb. 19, from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Samuel Thomas Brewer
Mr. Samuel Thomas Brewer, 53, of Grantville, died February 14, 2001 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.
Mr. Brewer, better known as "Sam" or "Sammy," was the youngest of nine children. Preceding him in death are his parents, the late Leonard and Gladys Brewer; sister, Johnnie Cross; two brothers, Leonard and Clyde Brewer. He grew up and attended school in Carrollton, Ga. and Dayton, Ohio. He enjoyed playing golf and being in golf tournaments -- this was his favorite pastime. He joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Carrollton, Ga. at an early age and was a member until moving away.
A funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. at Greater Jehovah Baptist Church, Grantville, the Rev. Billy Glanton officiating, assisted by other ministers. Burial at Mt. Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Moreland. Golfing friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. James Jefferson Goodrum III
Mr. James Jefferson Goodrum III, known to all as "Cap," of Newnan, died February 15, 2001 at his residence following an illness of several months.
Mr. Goodrum was born July 18, 1935 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of the late James Thompson Goodrum and Alice McBride Goodrum. Educated in the Cairo American School and the Sewanee Military Academy, he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree as well as a Master's from West Georgia College, now the State University of West Georgia. His professional career encompassed management of the Small World Gift Shop, serving as a travel agent for Newnan Travel, and teaching American History in the Coweta County School System.
On March 26, 1967, he married Frances Lee Wortham Goodrum of Newnan. Their family was complete with the birth of their son James Thompson "Jim" Goodrum II, who now makes his home in Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Mr. Goodrum is survivied by his brother, Thomas McBride Goodrum and his wife Jane McCrary Goodrum of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and their children, Thomas M. Goodrum Jr. of Santa Monica, California and Jennie McCrary Goodrum of Charlotte, North Carolina.
A funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Newnan with the Rev. Russell Kendrick, Dr. Harry Barrow and Dr. Gerald S. Troutman officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the service hour in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Laura Eley Mosley, 89, of Hogansville, Ga., died Thursday, February 15, 2001 at West Georgia Medial Center in LaGrange.
A funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. David Pickard will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
Mrs. Mosley was born October 12, 1911 in Heard County, daughter of the late Joseph and Ollie Walls Ely. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Hogansville, and was a retired seamstress. Mrs. Mosley was the wife of the late Earl E. Mosley.
Surviving are a daughter, Jo Anne Mosley of Jonesboro; three granddaughters, Hope Young of Acworth, Ga., Leigh Taylor of Luthersville, Ga., and Tammy Harris of Slinas, California; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Miller was born February 5, 1980 in Dade County, Florida and lived in Grantville before making his home in Walnut Cove. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantville and was a brick mason.

Mrs. Janie Tolbert of Woodland Drive, Newnan, died Monday, February 12, 2001 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Janie Sue Foster Tolbert attended the public school system in Grantville and afterwards attended Young Harris College. Her working career began at Dixie Life Insurance which later became Columbus National and next followed 20 plus years at Coweta County Health Department. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and was known as a "tireless" worker. She was a kind, loving friend to everyone always putting others before herself. Her smile, beauty and grace warmed everyone's heart; as such she never met a stranger. Her love for her husband, daughter and grandsons knew no bounds. Her involvement and love for her close friends and family will be greatly missed. Her friends would say, "She was that bright, shining star on everyone's horizon."

Mr. Richard Melvin Owens, 46, of Cates Road, Newnan, died Sunday, February 11, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Owens, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Owens Sr., was born September 24, 1954 in Newnan, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He had a love for knowledge and would frequently proclaim his desire to attend college. He was educated at the Open Door School in Newnan and later attended the workshop at Rutledge Production, a subsidiary of the Newnan-Coweta Association for Retarded Citizens. Anyone who came in contact with Mr. Owens was aware of his strong faith. He joined the Summer Hill Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully until his death. He was a member of the Senior Choir, the J. T. Coleman Choir, the Home Mission and the Old Ship of Zion and as with everything gave 100 percent of himself to these efforts.
A funeral will be Thursday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. at Summer Hill Baptist Church on Highway 29 South, Newnan, with the Rev. J. T. Coleman officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clifton Davis and the Rev. W. J. Johnson. The remains will lie in state at the church from11:30 a.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be the deacons of the church. Flower ladies will be members of the Home Mission and the Mother Board.

The Honorable L. Gwen Prescott, 53, of LaGrange and former Probate Judge of Troup County, died Monday, February 12, 2001 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14 at Faith Baptist Church in LaGrange. The Rev. Charles Chapman and the Rev. Jay Knight will officiate and burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.

Judge Prescott was born December 13, 1947 in LaGrange and was a lifelong resident of Troup County. He was a 1965 graduate of LaGrange High School, attended LaGrange College and was a 1977 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta. A licensed funeral director and embalmer, he was a former manager of Fling Funeral Home in LaGrange and served as Coroner of Troup County from 1981 until 1983. He was elected Probate Judge of Troup County in 1983 and served until his retirement in 1999. Mr. Prescott was active in the Probate Judges Council of Georgia and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in LaGrange.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elaine Benefield Prescott of LaGrange; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Jennifer Prescott of Hogansville; father and mother, the Rev. R. Mr. John Charles Jarrard, 47, of Nashville, Tenn. died Thursday, February, 1, 2001 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Mr. Jarrard was born May 7, 1953 in Gainesville, the son of Bonnell Charles and Virginia Trammell Jarrard. His maternal grandparents were Robert T. "Bob" and Sallie McGahee Trammell of Coweta County.
Mr. Jarrard was a 1977 graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a songrwriter in Nashville, most recently associated with High Seas Music.
He was active in support of the American Diabetes Association.
A memorial service was held Saturday, February 10 at at First Church - Unity in Nashville. A second memorial service will be held Sunday, February 18, at 2 p.m. at New Holland Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Mrs. Agnes D. Powell, 76, of Gail Avenue, Albany, Ga., died Monday, February 12, 2001 at Palmyra Park Hospital following an illness.

A native of Warrenton, Ga., Mrs. Powell had lived in Albany since 1964 and retired in 1988 from the Dougherty County Public Schools after 22 years. She taught remedial reading for grades one through three. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Albany, and the Etta Edwards Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her husband, Bill F. Powell of Albany; sons, William P. Powell of Dallas, Texas, Warren D. Powell of Anderson, S.C., B. Frank Powell Jr. of Grayson, Ga. and Joel T. Mrs. Sealy was born July 8, 1906 in Randolph County, daughter of the late Thomas A. Fellows and Radah Moore Fellows. She had lived in Newnan for the past three years, moving from Cuthbert. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and was a retired elementary teacher for the Randolph County School System. Mrs. Sealy was a member of the Cuthbert United Methodist Church, was active in the Women's division of the Church and served as the president of UMC and as a circle leader. She also served on the Conference level as chairman of student work. Mrs. Sealy was a member of the Benjamin Hawkins chapter of DAR in Cuthbert and State Officers Club of DAR. She was the widow of Albert Lanier Sealy.
Survivors include a son, Albert L. Sealy Jr. of Newnan; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Martha A. Williams, 72, of Potts Road, Newnan, died Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Starcrest of Newnan.
Mrs. Williams was born March 10, 1928 in Douglas, Ga. She was a homemaker.
The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan Monday, Feb. 12 from 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Margaret Higgins Gunby
Mrs. Margaret Higgins Gunby, 86, of Luthersville, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale.
Mrs. Gunby was born Aug. 3, 1914, in Senoia to the late John Wilson Higgins and Lucy Rebecca Elmore Higgins. Formerly a resident of Dalton, Mrs. Gunby lived for many years in Florida. She worked for the Veterans' Administration and Pinellas County Health Department in St. Petersburg, Florida, and she retired from the Florida State Industrial Commission in Tampa. She was a Protestant by faith.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren Lloyd Johnson, who died in 1950, and her second husband, Robert Beall Gunby, who died in 1965.
A funeral will be held today, Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at McKoon Funeral Home. Dr. Robert Trammell will officiate, and burial will be at Alvaton Baptist Cemetery. There will be no grave-side service. The family will receive visitors from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Surviving are seven nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ruthie M. Brooks, 88, of Newnan, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Starcrest of Newnan.
Mrs. Brooks was born June 21, 1912, in Newnan. She was a retired textile worker.
A funeral will be held today, Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at 2 p.m. at East Newnan Baptist Church. The Rev. Frank Powers will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are her son, Tony Brooks of Marietta; her sisters Alice Borders of Newnan and Erlena Craig of Smyrna; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Pamela Addy Owen, 48, of Newnan, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Owen was born Nov. 10, 1952, in Newnan. She was a nurse's aid.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. Raymond Hayes will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Goodell, Billy Glenn Harper, Tony Hayes, Kenneth Orr, Jr., Joey Schmitt, and John Weaver.

Mrs. Eula Bertha Redwine Herring
Mrs. Eula Bertha Redwine Herring, 69, of Belk Road, Newnan, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.
A funeral will be Sunday, Feb. 11 at Fellowship Christian center, 415 Pete Davis Road, Newnan with the remains placed in state at 1 p.m. Pastor Bill Elder will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Melvin Brittian Jr. the Rev. Billy J. Glanton and the Rev. Joe P. Geter. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan. Pallbearers will be Harvey Brooks, Sanford Cousins, Charles Herring, Amos Houston, MacDonald Redwine, Roderick Rutledge. Flower Ladies will be Pauline Brooks, Cornelia Cousins, Annie Pearl Hayes, Alice Houston, Anna Stegall and Catherine Woods.
The fifth of nine children, she was born to Dora Brooks and M. C. Redwine Dec. 4, 1931. She married Clifford Herring Jr. and they had four children, Jeffery Hilton, Maverick, Vickie Renea and Maria Lynn. She attended Newnan Public Schools. She loved caring for others and pursued a career in nursing. She graduated from Beaumont School of Practical Nursing March 15, 1953. She began her nursing career at the Colored Hospital on Spring Street in Newnan. She continued her nursing career at Coweta General Hospital where she worked for 20 years. She worked another 10 years at Newnan Hospital where she retired due to bad health. That did not stop her love of caring, and she came out of retirement to be a private duty nurse.
She joined Old Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a very active member. She later moved her membership to Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church. She became involved with Alive With Christ Ministries and finally was a member of Fellowship Christian Center. She was a former member of the Estern Star. She also started her own missionary work, often visiting the hospitals and nursing homes delivering fruit baskets and spreading the word of God.
Surviving are sons, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Hilton Herring (Desiree) Augusta, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Maverick Herring (Rosalyn); daughter, Vickie Herring; five grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Jwan Herring (Tiffany), Gabriel Lene Geter (Nana), Chloe Greshawnna Herring, Tyrian Juwan Herring (Ty) and Cayden Jamir Herring; sisters, Lorena Beasley, Augusta, Ga. and Ella Mae Redwine, Newnan; brother, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Redwine (Rose), Newnan; a host of nephews and nieces; very special grandniece, Carly Maria Gates; relatives and friends; life-long friend, Mary Malcolm.

Mrs. Hazel H. Nixon, 94, of Senoia, Ga. died February 8, 2001.
Mrs. Nixon was born January 30, 1907. She was the widow of Gordon Nixon and was a long-time member of Haralson First Baptist Church.
The family was receiving friends Friday evening, 6-8 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City.
A funeral will be at First Baptist Church of Haralson Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. The remains will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Rev. Wendell Banks will officiate.

Ms. Rachel Rosser, 41, of Primrose, Grantville, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at her residence.
A funeral will be Sunday, Feb. 11 at Zion Hill Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. with pastor the Rev. D. L. Driver officiating, along with Rev. W J. Johnson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Nephews and cousins will serve as pallbearers.
Ms. Rosser was born August 17, 1959 to Mr. and Mrs. Wilkin K. and Olevia Rosser. She was the sixth child of seven. One who preceded her in death was Donald Rosser. She joined the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.

Mr. Jacob Clyde Cantrell
Mr. Jacob Clyde Cantrell, 94, formerly of Williams Avenue, Easley, South Carolina, husband of the late Clara Mae Stancil Cantrell, died Thursday, February 8, 2001 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Jacob Lewis and Elizabeth Edens Cantrell, Mr. Cantrell retired as a maintenance engineer with the Glenwood Plant of Mayfair Mills. He was a member of United Wesleyan Church where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent, and also a former Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are five sons, Don Cantrell of Anderson, S.C., Jacob Cantrell of Salisbury, N.C., Robert Cantrell of Easley, S.C., Wendell Cantrell of Spartanburg, S.C., Doug Cantrell of Newnan, Ga.; brothers, J. T. "Bill" Cantrell of Ohio, and Isaac Cantrell of Pickens; sisters, Ruth Gantt and Willie Cantrell, both of Easley.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Cantrell was preceded in death by a son, David Cantrell, and by a daughter, Virginia Lesley.
A funeral will be at graveside 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens, with Rev. Garland Sentell officiating.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Easley, S.C., from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9.
