Mrs. Overby was born January 23, 1912 in Coweta County and worked as a licensed practical nurse at Newnan Hospital. She sas a member of Newnan First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Bill Overby.

Mr. Clence Russell Patterson, 65, of Franklin, Ga., died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the Hospice LaGrange after five years of declining health.
Mr. Patterson was born April 11, 1935 in Marshall County, Alabama to the late Arbie Patterson and Birdie Wilkerson Patterson. He was retired from a self-owned pulpwood company after which he devoted many years to the Salvation Army. Mr. Patterson was a Christian by faith, and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
A funeral was Friday, March 30 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Ga. with the Major Kenneth Bush (chaplain Salvation Army retired) officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Barbie Brown.

Mr. George Verlon Haygood Sr., 67, of Senoia, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Fayette Community Hospital.
Mr. Haygood was born April 25, 1933 in Ballground, Ga. He was the owner of Senoia Overhead Door Co. and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents Payton E. and Jessie K. Haygood and a son, George V. Haygood Jr.

Mrs. Cora Jenkins Heflin, 75, of Sharpsburg, Ga., died March 26, 2001.
She was born in McKenzie, Tennessee, August 17, 1925 to Alex Jenkins and Mary Aden Jenkins, one of five children, two of whom died in infancey.
She attended secretarial school in Nashville, Tenn. and worked for 32 years as a computer specialist for the federal government in the Atlanta area. She was an active member of the Church of Christ since age 13.
She is preceded in death by her son, Kenneth; daughter, Barbara; stepbrother, Bob Cox of Tennessee; and her husband, Jack Robert Heflin.
Surviving are four daughters and their husbands, Carol and Tom Daniel of Anchorage, Alaska, Kathy and Rex Clark of McDonough, Ga., Alice and Jerry Matthews of St. Louis, MO, Debbie and Matt Speaks of Sharpsburg, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Jean Lynn Heflin; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Sarah Vaughn of Stockbridge and Margaret Jenkins of Virginia Beach.

A graveside service for the burial of the ashes of Mrs. Elizabeth Parks Passavant will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31 in the Byrd Parks lot in Oak Hill Cemetery. The service will be led by Dr. Harry Barrow.
Mrs. Passavant died at age 97 in November 2000 at Marquis Care of Oregon City, Oregon after a brief illness.

Mr. Stanley was born August 22, 1968 in Coweta County to Fred Bailey and Alice Stump. He was a truck driver and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Roger Lee Harper, 50, of Moreland, Ga. died at his home Wednesday morning, March 28, 2001 after an extended illness.
Mr. Harper was the owner and operator of Harper's Amoco station on Greenville Street in Newnan where he was known as the friendliest and nicest man anyone ever knew.
Mr. Harper came to Newnan from Talladega, Alabama in 1980 after marrying his wife Shriley.
His mother, Mrs. Martha Singleton, predeceases him.

Mr. Harrington was born August 4, 1925 in Wilson, North Carolina. He was a retired steel worker from Brown Steel and worked as a security guard for Newnan Utilities. She served his country in World War II alongside General Patton in Germany.

Mrs. Anne C. Turner
Mrs. Anne C. Turner, 75, of College Park, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 from complications of ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease. A native of Carroll County, Mrs. Turner was one of 8 children. She moved to the College Park area shortly after her marriage. She retired from Rich's after 28 years of service. She began her career as a salesperson, rose to the level of assistant buyer for the costume jewelry division, and retired as a coordinator for 17 accessory divisions. After retiring, Mrs. Turner became an avid gardener. At age 72 she possessed the energy and vigor to begin providing full-time daycare for her infant twin great-granddaughters, and she continued caring for them over the next two years. Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Lee Turner, who died in 1960 of Bright's Disease.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Lee H. Turner; daughter, Gloria Turner Dugger and son-in-law Dudley B. Dugger of Senoia; twin granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, LeAnn Dugger Sears and Terry A. Sears, of College Park and Lynn Dugger Jones and Clark Jones of Ocilla; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Laura Dugger Nolan and Marty Nolan of Atlanta; great-granddaughters Cypris and Alexandra Jones, and the twins, Laura Grace and Katie Lynn Sears. Mrs. Turner is also survived by six sisters and one brother and was a dearly loved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born June 16, 1941 to Hazel Speights Duncan and the late Murray Duncan. He retired from Ford Motor Comapny six years ago as a repairman, was an Army Veteran and a member of the Palmetto Masonic Lodge #74. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Duncan.

Hampton was born September 9, 1981 to Theresa Day Springfield and Keith Hampton Sr. in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Chapel Hill Elementary School in Indianapolis. After moving to Newnan, Ga. in 1997 he attended East Coweta High School. A talented young man, he enjoyed carpenter skills, video games, music and rapping. He acquired the spirit of a very quiet but serious person. Later in his teen years he became a serious person hoping and dreaming of becoming an electrician.

Mr. C. E. Stevenson, 97, of Tallahassee, Florida and a former resident of Hogansville, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 28 at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Rev. John Mark Carpenter officiating.
Mr. Stevenson was born November 11, 1903 in Hogansville, son of the late Edward and Lula Forbus Stevenson. He received an A.B. degree from Ogelthorpe University, an M.A. degree from Peabody College, an pursued post graduate studies at the University of Georgia, Duke University, and the University of Minnesota. An instructor in the Naval Pre-Flight Program during World War Two, Mr. Stevenson was a teacher, principal, and superintendent in the public schools of Georgia for 17 years and served as Director of Guidance and as an Associate Professor of Psychology at North Georgia College for 23 years, retiring in 1966.
Mr. Stevenson was involved in church and civic activities, having been a member of Lions and Kiwanis clubs, and having served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and church clerk. He lived in Hogansville from 1980 until making his home in Tallahassee in 1992, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hogansville.
Survivng are a daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Steve Norris; a granddaughter, Linda Avant; two great-grandchildren, Lauran Avant and Dale Avant, all of Tallahassee, and several niece and nephews.

Mr. Claude Wetherington, 77, of Newnan, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Wetherington was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara A. Wetherington; sons, John B. Wetherington, Jeff L. Wetherington; daughter, Sharon A. Martin; brother, Norvell Wetherington; sister, Dororthy A. Parker; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. William C. "Rabbit" Bailey, 75, of Senoia, died March 19, 2001 at Portsbridge Hospice in Riverdale, Ga.
Mr. Bailey was born July 25, 1925 in Coweta County to the late William and Mary Bailey. He joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age.

Mrs. Tracey Ferrell Hunter, 34, of Newnan died March 20, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Hunter was born August 1, 1966 to James and Leatrice Ferrell of Senoia, Ga. She was a dedicated and long-term employee of Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. She joined the White Oak Grove Baptist Church at an early age. She later became the First Lady at Seeds of Abraham Ministries in Newnan. She was a faithful servant of Christ. Departing with her was her unborn child. She was married May 20, 2000 to Tony Hunter.

Mrs. Clara Mae Miller Melton, 84, of Legion Lake Road, Douglasville, Ga., died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Cobb Hospital.
She was born May 7, 1916 in Coweta County, Ga., the daughter of the late Otis Elisha Miller and the late Mrs. Mirty Elizabeth Godsby Miller. She was a member of the House of Prayer Church and was a retired inspector for the Jean's Hosiery Mill.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, James Melton; sisters, Ethel Eskew and Cora Boozer; and brothers, Carl Miller, Lewis Miller and Alton Miller.
She is survivied by three daughters and sons-in-law, Pastor Frances George, Louise and J. E. New and Laraine and Bacel Woody, all of Douglasville; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Dianne Melton of Canton, North Carolina; sisters, Mildred Wix of Dallas and Elsie Davis of Grantville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survivie.

Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Crotzer Beuchler, 70, of Newnan, formerly of Cumming, Ga., died Thursday, March 22, 2001.
Mrs. Beuchler was in Civil Service for 31 years, the latter years as a ranger with the Corps of Engineers. After her retirement from the Corps of Engineers, she was a real estate broker for Northside Realty for 10 years. Mrs. Beuchler was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas D. Beuchler.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Joel Puzder, Tyrone, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Mike and Joan Cowart, Hinesville, Ga.; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.

He continued his education at Central High School when he moved to Newnan. Later in life he served his country proud in the Marine Corps. He was also an experienced concrete finisher. He did many things to help around the community.

Miss Bessie V. Brown, 88, of Hogansville, Ga., died Monday, March 19, 2001 at the home of her great-niece in Hogansville.

She had lived in Hogansville for the past 57 years and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Amazing Grace Sunday School Class. She retired from Uniroyal Inc. in Hogansville after 40 years of service.

Mr. Francis B. "Frank" Dalton, 71, formerly of Newnan, died February 28, 2001 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
A funeral was held in Miami, Florida at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, 7310 S. W. 62nd Street on Thursday, March 8, 2001. The remains were cremated.
Mr. Dalton was retired as an inspector for Eastern Airlines after 27 years of service. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey, and grew up in New York City before enlisting in the Air Force, retiring as a staff sergeant. Stationed in England he met and married his wife Helen on Valentines Day 1953. Mechanical skills earned him a job, first at Pan Am and then Eastern Airlines in Miami and later Atlanta. His love of cars led him to develop an expertise in paint and body work which he applied to his own business.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Helen; daughter, Susan of Miami, Fla.; sisters Marie Lang and Gen Boidleau; granddaughters Shannon, Christie and Kelly; and son-in-law Bill.

Mrs. Geneva Mae Ferebee, 69, of Newnan, died at her home early Wednesday morning, March 21, 2001.
Mrs. Ferebee was born to Lee and Mary Underwood in Christiansburg, Virginia where she lived most of her life. Mrs. Ferebee moved to Newnan 15 years ago to be with her family where her hobbies included collecting stuffed animals and raising cats. She was an active member of the Senior Citizens of Newnan and attended Westside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ferebee is predeceased by her husband, Mr. Floyd Ferebee.

Mr. Mario James Tate, 50, died March 15, 2001.
Mr. Tate was born May 8, 1951 to the late Oro Tate Sr. and Jacqueline B. Tate Harris of Boston, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by a brother, Deangelo Tate.
Mr. Tate joined the Holy Mt. Zion Church at an early age. In 1968 he joined the United States Army and fought in Vietnam. He rose to the the rank of sergeant.
In 1986 Mr. Tate relocated to Atlanta, Ga. There he met his wife, Judy Tucker and they were married July 6, 1996. He loved music and a challenge in chess.

He was retired after 23 years of faithful service to the William Bonnel Co. in Newnan where he was a metal packer. He was a Baptist by faith.

A native of Coweta County, he was born October 30, 1914 the son of James B. and Alma Kelley Garner. He retired from the West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company as a production supervisor. Many of his friends remember him for his love of sports and his participation in local baseball leagues. A member of the Lovejoy United Methodist Church, he served as treasurer for 20 years and was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, the Adult Choir, and the Happy Seniors. A son, Ray Garner, preceded him in death.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Milton Hall will officiate and burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Claude A. McKibben and Sons funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Lewis was born August 8, 1920 in Heard County, daughter of the late Jim and Louellen Williamson Thomaston. Before returning to Hogansville eight years ago, she lived in Norfolk, Virginia most of her life and was a member of the Baptist church. She was the wife of the late Horace Lewis.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Mary Lee Hammett of Corinth; brothers, Jack Thomaston of Cicero, Illinois and Willie Earl Thomaston of Franklin; a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mae G. Hayes Reid of Pinson Street, Newnan, died March 17, 2001.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. in Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Allen Darden officiating, assisted by Evengelist Susie Hudson. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Reid was born to Miss Nellie G. Hayes and Mr. Clifford Berry, both of Coweta County. She was married Dec. 15, 1989 to Mr. Luther Fred Reid. She was a loving wife and mother of one child and one step-child.
Surviving are her husband, Luther F. Reid; son, Luther Deon Reid Jr.; step-daughter, Naomi Reid; mother, Nellie G. Hayes; father, Clifford Berry; sister, Gloria Bussie; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby J. Williams and Mr. Dennis L. Mr. Andrew F. "Andy" Bowers, 57, of Grantville, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Atlanta Medical Center.
Mr. Bowers was born June 28, 1943 in Moreland to the late James and Inez Houston Bowers. A lifelong resident of Coweta County, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grantville and worked at the William L. Bonnell Company in Newnan. He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Mark Bowers, and a sister, Barbara Jean Eison.
A funeral will be held today, Monday, March 19, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Grantville. The Rev. Darris Baker will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Young, Charles Blount, Jeff Gaddy, Lawson Boyd, Terry Futral, and Jackie Robertson.

Mrs. Florence Tennant Parks, 91, of Wayzata, Edina, Minn., Longview, Wash., and Newnan, died Friday, March 16, 2001.
Mrs. Parks was born Sept. 8, 1909 in DeRidder, La., to the late Lola B. and John D. Tennant. She was a member of P.E.O. and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Parks was always proud of her grandchildren and remained an avid bridge player, sports fan, and competitor until the end. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Parks, and her brother, J. Douglas Tennant.
Surviving are her son, William and his wife May; daughters Katherine George and her husband Craig and Florence Dacenais and her husband Don; grandchildren Tom and Betsy George, Katrina and Michael Sents, Heidi and Travis Peterson, William and Anna Parks, and Kate Parks; great-grandchildren Myah Peterson and Graham George, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Gladys Freeman Brooks, 86, of Acworth, Ga., formerly of Franklin, Ga., died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at the Beverly Health Care Center in Kennestone, Ga. after several months of declining health.
Mrs. Brooks was born April 16, 1914 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late William Freeman and Arbella Shelnutt Freeman. She was a machine operator in the Textile Industry. Until the onset of her illness, Mrs. Brooks was a faithful member of the Franklin Church of God.
A funeral will be Saturday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home, Franklin, Ga. with the Reverends Luther Raines and Lindsay Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Lawn Cemetery in LaGrange, Ga. The family was receiving guests at the funeral home Friday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Tony Clark Brown, 54, of Newnan died March 13, 2001 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.
Mr. Brown was born May 9, 1946 in Coweta County to the late Vincent Brown and Elizabeth Horton.

Mrs. Lougenia Smith Samuels , 99, of Newnan, died March 13, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Samuels was born April 5, 1901 in Newnan, Ga. to the late Wade and Emma Lou Smith. She received Christ at an early age and spent the last 14 years as a faithful memer of The Faith Tabernacle. She was a loving mother and always was a source of hope, love and comfort to those that knew her and loved her.
A funeral will be Saturday, March 17 at 1 p.m. at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church. Pastor Charles Smith will be eulogist, assisted by Pastor James Roberts, Rev. Perry Huggins, Pastor Larry P. Warner and other ministers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Katherine Blake Shell
Mrs. Katherine Blake (Kathy) Shell, 54, of Newnan, died Thursday, March 15, 2001.
Mrs. Shell was born March 23, 1946 in Fort Payne, Alabama. She was the daughter of Webster and Thelma Blake, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Shell attended Auburn University and received a Bachelor of Arts/School of Science and Literature degree. She later obtained a Master's in Education Degree and an Education Specialist Degree, both from the former West Georgia College, now the State University of West Georgia in Carrollton. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Newnan. She also served on the Newnan-Coweta Public Library Board and served as chairman in 1992 and 1994. She was an educator for the Coweta County School System for 27 years.
Her husband, Rhodes Shell and two daughters, Meredith Blake and Mary Katherine survive her.
A visitation was held Friday, March 16 from 7-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Ga.
A funeral will be held at First Baptist Church of Newnan on Saturday, March 17 at 1 p.m. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, Ga.
