Mr. Murray William Gordon
Mr. Murray William Gordon, 80, of 48 Haynes St. in Newnan, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at his residence.
He was born in Baker County, Ga. on Oct. 25, 1920, the son of the late Murray Victor Gordon and Nancy Elizabeth Irvin Gordon. He was retired from General Motors, where he was employed for 26 years. Mr. Gordon was a World War II Army veteran.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three children, one brother and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Willie Maude Gordon; eight children, Murray Wayne Gordon, Ronald Alton Gordon, Donald Ray Gordon, Jimmy Monroe Gordon, Debbie Ann Caldwell, Barbara Jean Tweedell, Danny Ray Gordon and Thomas Alvin Gordon; two sisters, Nadine Shoemaker and Onita Carr; two brothers, B.F. Gordon and Sam Henry Gordon; 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 30, 2001 at 2 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan, with Rev. Raymond Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert M. Bryant, B.J. Bryant, Chris Tweedell, Danny Lewis, Ricky Lewis and Steven Kennedy.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 until 4 p.m.

Funeral services for Mr. William H. Maynard of Senoia will be April 29, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Senoia, with Rev. Paul Pittman officiating and assisted by Rev. R.L. Jones and Elder Michael Pinson. Interment will be at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mr. Maynard's nephews. Mr. Maynard died April 25, 2001.
Mr. Maynard was born Jan. 17, 1934 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Eddie B. Maynard in Coweta County.
Two sisters preceded him in death: Louise Maynard Hand and Carolyn Maynard.
Survivors include four sisters, Annie L. Alexander, Elevenia Jackson, Eddie K. Maynard and Cora B. McCrary; four brothers, Charles Maynard, Grady Maynard, Franklin Maynard and Melvin Maynard; one aunt, Gertrude Herndon; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Jewell Alice Ferrell Billingslea, 79, died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Ferrell was born November 22, 1921 to Mr. Frank Ferrell and Ms. Eppie Mae Booker in Hughely, Alabama. She was the youngest of eight children. She loved her brothers and sisters and spoke of them often and made sure her children knew their aunts and uncles. She later married Mr. Jimmy Billingslea, also from Alabama, and together they had 10 children. From that point on she dedicated her life to raising her children, which she did with tender loving care.
Surviving are sons, Walter Lewis, Donald, Jim, Tom and Sammy; daughters Bernadine, Ezella, Martha Sue, Sandra and Annella; sister, Estelle; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends.
The cortege will assemble at 1 Hannah Street, Newnan, Ga. at noon.

Mrs. Mary Powell Bryant, 79, of Newnan, died April 25, 2001 at her home following a brief illness.
A native of Newnan, she was born August 26, 1921 the daughter of Welborn B. and Mary Story Powell Davis. She attended the Newnan Public Schools and graduated from Agnes Scott College. Her husband, Everett C. Bryant preceded her in death in March of 1968. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Newnan.
Surviving are her son, Clay Bryant of Athens; a daughter, Anne Sanders of Macon; grandchildren, Clay Walker Bryant, Jennifer Lynn Bryant, Thomas Hillman Sanders, Alexander Davis Sanders, and Anna Walker Sanders; brother, Bill Davis.
A grandson, Everett Bryant Sanders also preceded her in death.
A funeral was Friday, April 27 at 1 p.m. at the graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dr. Joel Richardson officiating.

Mrs. Jakalski was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Jakalski. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Shaner and her husband, Len; son, Kenneth Jakalski and his wife, Susan; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gladys "Meme" Bradberry Johnson, 91, of North Nixon Street, Carrollton, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Moreland, Ga. and was born April 22, 1910, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Paul Bradberry and Nancy Haynes Bradberry. She moved to Carrollton in 1975 from Moreland. She was an owner of clothing stores. She maintained her membership at White Oak Presbyterian Church in Moreland; attended the Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a member of the 3 H Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William P. and Ramona Johnson, Carrollton; granddaughter, Angie Lee Johnson, Ashville, North Carolina; grandson, Alton Parker Johnson, Carrollton; great nephew, Ray Bradberry, Woodstock.

Mr. Watson was born June 9, 1919 in Meriwether County, Ga., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Ophelia) Watson. He was the seventh of 13 children; three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. He joined the Piney Grove Baptist Church in Haralson, Ga. at an early age. His wife (Mary V. Watson) and the mother of his children preceded him in death in May 1964.
Surviving are wife, Mrs. Mozell Watson; three daughters, Ms. Kathryn A. Mr. David Allen Buckallew Jr., 19, of Grantville, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001.
Mr. Buckallew was born in Pensacola, Florida and had lived most of his life in Grantville. He graduated in 2000 from Flint River Academy in Woodbury, Ga. where he was a member of the debate team, played first base and catcher for the baseball team and lettered in football. He was employed by the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant chain and attended West Georgia College. Mr. Buckallew was a member of St. George Catholic Church.
Surviving are his mother, JoAnn Murphy of Grantville; father and stepmother, David Allen (Sylvia) Buckallew Sr. of Jonesville, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer (Ted) Williams of Newnan; grandparents, Herbert and Delores Davis of Grantville; aunts, Shelly Landrum of Newnan, Nita Graham of Tampa, Florida; niece, Anna Williams of Newnan; several cousins.

Mr. Patrick A. "Pat" Cangemi, 49, of Newnan, died April 24, 2001 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Surviving are his wife Diane; son, Christopher (Jill) Cangemi and granddaughter Zoe; daughter, Kimberley Cangemi, all of Dallas, Ga.; step-sons and step-daughter, Brian (Jennifer) Grizzard of Peachtree City, Brack Grizzard and Becca Grizzard of Newnan; step-son, Michael Morin of Florida; mother, Frances Cangemi of Coram, NY; brohters, Richard (Rhonda) Cangemi, and Joseph Cangemi, all of Carrollton; sister, Loretta Besser of Port Jefferson, NY; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He is preceded in death by his father, Salvatore Cangemi.
Mr. Cangemi was devoted to his family and friends and they to him. He lived life to the fullest and brought happiness and a ray of light into the lives of all he touched. He was passionate about everything in life. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and especially buying and restoring old and not so old cars and trucks and was driving a favorite, a 1987 Corvette that he had bought for his wife, at the time of his death. He was a dedicated employee of Kasco Corporation of St. Louis, MO. His family and friends will miss his smiling face and infectious laughter.
A funeral will be Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley with the Father David Epps (Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church) officiating. Private interment at a later date.

Mrs. Francis L. Gantt, 85, of Franklin, Ga., died at Beaulieu Convalescent Center April 25, 2001 after residing there for more than five years.
Mrs. Gantt was born October 22, 1915 in Fulton County, Ga. to the late Charles Hughes and Mary Alice Prichett Hughes. Mrs. Gantt was a person who cared about people and did so through her work as a nurse's aide and being a loving wife and mother. She was a devoted member of the Franklin Church of God. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Howard Pickens Parks Sr.
Mr. Howard Pickens Parks, Sr., 88, of Newnan, died April 25, 2001, at his home.
He was born October 13, 1912 in Coweta County, the son of George Edward Parks and the former Annie Kate Johnson, who were descendents of pioneer families of Coweta County. He attended and graduated from The University of Georgia in 1936 where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He married his wife of 59 years, Mary Wood on October 4, 1941. A veteran of World War II, he was a glider pilot and landed on Normandy on D-Day. He was awarded the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
Upon returning to Newnan, Mr. Parks went into the real estate business with his father as Parks' Realty, and the business was known then as G. E. Parks & Son Realty. As the business grew with the addition of his son, "Pick," it evolved into Parks and Mottola Realty.
Mr. Parks Sr. served as the first president of the Coweta County Board of Realtors and was elected Georgia Realtor of the Year. During his professional career he was responsible for developing subdivisions in Newnan such as Featherston Heights, Rockingwood, North Hills and LaGrange Heights; and he founded Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan's first perpetual care cemetery. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newnan, a former member of the Newnan Rotary Club, a member of the White Oak and Newnan Country Clubs, the Elks Club, the Veterans' Club, and a longtime member of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; a daughter, Mary Wood Parks Moor and her husband Ed of Moreland; two sons, Howard Pickens "Pick" Parks, Jr. and his wife Dey of Newnan and Jim Parks and his wife Betty of Titusville, Florida; grandchildren, Eden, Pickens, Jennifer and Bridgette; great grandchildren, Cole, Emily, and Tanner; and a sister, Frances Parks.
Funeral services for Mr. Parks will be conducted Friday, April 27 at 4 p.m. at the graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Reverend Gary Parrish officiating. Mr. Bruce Roberts Williams, 62, of Haralson, Georgia, died Monday, April 23, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Williams was born October 26, 1938 in Coweta County, Ga. He was the owner of Williams Grocery, in Haralson, and sausage made at the grocery had a national reputation.
The family was receiving friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
A funeral was held at Haralson United Methodist Church Wednesday, April 25, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carolyn M. Evans and the Rev. Bob Partridge officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jon Camp, Scott Camp, Mac Clayton, Cris Johnson, Allen McDuffie, Terry Sumlin, Chris Waters and Shane Waters.

He and wife Polly Ann Echols had five children. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Cora Lee Potts and Mrs. Rossie Mae Clark.

Mr. Echols was born July 18, 1935 in Heard County. He was the second child born to the late K. C. and Mrs. Carrie Dell Echols. He was a member of the Heard Wesley United Methodist Church. He and wife Polly Ann Echols had five children. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Cora Lee Potts and Mrs. Rossie Mae Clark.

She was born October 7, 1962 in Coweta County to James R. McKoon and Cora Webb McKoon. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Richard McKoon Sr.

Mr. E. L. Herndon, 79, of Franklin, Ga., died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at Belair Assisted Living Center in Newnan.

Mr. Herndon was born October 29, 1921 in Coweta County, son of the late Earnest and Ruth McDowell Herndon. He had lived in Heard County since 1985, was a former resident of Milledgeville and Gordon, and was retired from the Department of Human Resources in Milledgeville. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Milledgeville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Estelle Wingo Herndon.

Mr. Satterwhite was born March 22, 1913 to the late Dan Satterwhite and Jean (Huntley) Satterwhite. He was the second of eight children and was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. He joined Shady Grove Baptist Church where he faithfully served as chairman of the Deacon Board as well as church treasurer until his illness. He retired from Bibb Manufacturing where he worked more than 25 years. His hobbies included gardening and cooking. He married the former Grace Cameron and they had four children, one of whom preceded him in death, Johnny Cameron and his wife Alma.

Mr. Williams was born October 26, 1938 in Coweta County, Ga. He was the owner of Williams Grocery, in Haralson, and sausage made at the grocery had a national reputation.

Funeral services for Mrs. Essie Mae Traylor Bass, 83, of Franklin, Ga., were conducted Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Talmadge Chandler officiating.

Mrs. Bass was born March 4, 1918 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late William Pat Traylor and Dessie Eason Traylor. She was also preceded in death by her husband George Wilson Bass.
She died April 15, 2001 at the Franklin Health Care Center.
Mrs. Bass was a retired inspector for the Kelly Manufacturing Company in Franklin, Ga. She was a member of the Bear Creek Methodist Church in Woodland, Ala.

Mr. William Bryant Cosper, 90, of Newnan, Ga. died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Mr. Cosper was born March 14, 1911 in Randolph, Ala. to the late Lee Andrew Cosper and Addie Mae Holliday Cosper. He worked at Arnall Mills, and he opened W. B. Cosper Grocery Store in 1951 and worked there with his wife until retirement in 1976. He was a member of Sylvan Lodge F&AM for 52 years and a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan. He was married for 61 years to Mavis Cosper.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were brothers Jimmy Cosper, Horace Cosper, Wilson Cosper and Cecil Cosper, as well as a sister, Brooksie Cosper.

Mr. Thomas McElvain Davis, 68, of Windermere Court, Newnan, Ga., died Friday, April 20, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Davis was born April 30, 1932 in Mineral Co. He was a teacher and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He received his Master's in Education at George Washington University in Washington, D. C. and served in the Air Force in Texas and Japan during the Korean War. He had taught school for 30 years in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Mr. Joe Will Sims
Mr. Joe Will Sims, 75, of Pinson Street, Newnan, Ga., died Saturday, April 21, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Sims was born to the late Mr. Bowles and Renda Sims September 28, 1925 in Meriwether County. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and later joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he served as president, leader and treasurer of the Senior Choir. He attended Mt. Calvary until his health failed. He was a member of the Coweta Mass Choir, and also served as a treasurer and board member of the NAACP. He was also a member of the client council. He was married to the late Mrs. Mae Cook-Sims and they had two daughters, Mrs. Lynda Sims-Wilkins-Latham and JoAnn Sims-Arnold. He also had a step-daughter, Mrs. Shirley Mae Cook-Hayes. He later married Mrs. Lena Scandrick-Sims. As years passed as life went on he met his long-term friend Mrs. Marietta Newson. Through this special friendship he had another daughter, Ms. Lori Newson and later a son, Allen Kidd.
Surviving are his faithful friend Marietta Newson; four daughters; a son; sister-in-law, Mrs. Vera Mae Sims; son-in-law, Mr. Joseph Latham Jr.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Jerry Somolik, 67, of Moreland, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.
Mr. Somolik was born Oct. 12, 1933, in Cook County, Illinois. He served in the United States Navy, and worked in sales and manufacturing.

Mrs. Pearlie Jeanette Stenhouse Pool
Mrs. Pearlie Jeanette Stenhouse Pool, 92, of Newnan, Ga., died at home on March 18, 2001, surrounded by her family.
Born November 26, 1908, in Hartford, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Minnie E. Brassfield and Thomas W. Stenhouse. Jeanette moved to Denver, Colorado in 1933 where she was a homemaker and raised eight children. She lived in San Leandro, CA from 1971-1980, Phoenix, AZ 1980-1997, and in Georgia from 1997 until the date of her death. She was active in the Phoenix Manzanita Senior Citizen Center where everyone called her “friend.” Her devotion to God and to her family was unfailing. Her children and grandchildren love her dearly and will miss her always. Jeanette was treasured by all who knew her.
A funeral was held at McKoon Funeral Home, March 20, 2001, with Reverend Brian Lenox, Jeanette’s grandson, officiating.
Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, Georgia.

Mr. Thomas M. Davis
Mr. Thomas M. Davis, 68, passed away April 20, 2001 at his Newnan residence.
Born April 20, 1932 in Fort Ashby, West Virginia, Davis went on to serve in the United States Air Force and to become an educator in Prince George's County, Maryland. After retiring from teaching, he became a manager for an environmental lab in College park, MD. Upon full retirement, he became a full-time grandfather and continued to show his devotion to others through his contributions as a Master Gardener in Newnan.
Davis received his undergraduate education at Potomac State College and the University of West Virginia and was awarded a Master of Education degree from George Washington University. During his 30-year teaching career, Davis taught chemistry at Suitland and Bladensburg high schools. He also served as the president of the Prince George's County Teachers' Association for several years and coached the Suitland High School boys basketball team.
Davis was a cub scout leader and was active in the local Methodist church when his children were young.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 22 between 5 and 7 p.m at McKoon Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at the McKoon chapel on Monday, April 23 at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Campbell officiationg. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
