Mr. Ray Provost Sr.
Mr. Ray Provost Sr., 69, of Bates Road, entered into rest Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Brentwood Terrace Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at Botsford Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Interment followed at Bots-ford Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors accorded (United States Air Force). Mr. Provost was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a member of Botsford Baptist Church. Mr. Provost is preceded in death by his parents, John Provost and Mary P. Provost; two sisters, Shirley Provost and Bessie Singletary; and one brother, Coolidge Provost. Survivors include his wife, Ellene Provost of Waynesboro; two sons, Ray Provost Jr.of Augusta and John Provost of Hiriam; one stepson, Joe Pryor of Rising Town; two daughters, Pamela Clark and Kimberly Lagrasa, both of Pearl, Miss.; two stepdaughters, Patricia Pryor and Teresa Pryor, both of Waynesboro; five sisters, Ethel Singletary and Ellen Wilson, both of Slidell, La.; Sally Broom and Alice Yates, both of Pearl River, La. and Mary Ann Gerosa of Kenner, La.; four brothers, John Floyd Provost and Felix Provost, both of Pearl River and Travis Provost and George Provost, both of Slidell; and 14 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family received friends Friday, May 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Amanda Bolton
Mrs. Amanda Glenn Bolton entered into rest Friday, May 16, 2003, at Burke Medical Center. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, with Dr. David Carter and Rev. Henry Erwin officiating. Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Bolton, a native of Troup County, was born Aug. 25, 1903. She received her B.S. Degree in Mathematics from LaGrange College in 1925 and her M.S. Degree in Mathematics from the University of Georgia in 1928. She came to Waynesboro in 1928 and taught in the Burke County Junior College until 1932, when she began teaching at Waynesboro High School, retiring in 1964. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro where she taught the McFerrin Bible Class and had served as secretary of the administrative board. Mrs. Bolton was preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Bolton, in 1990.
Survivors include three sons, John Lee Bolton Jr. of Sanford, N.C., Robert G. Bolton of Waynesboro and Dr. William S. Bolton of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Robert Bolton Jr., David Bolton, Neal Bolton, Gregory Bolton, Julia Bolton and Mary Ann Bradley; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Joe Cooley, Herbert Mobley, Luther Robinson, Bill Hargrove, Jimmy Herrington, Tommy Quick, George DeLoach and Lon Hankinson. Mr. Melvin G. Myers
Mr. Melvin G. Myers, 85, died Thursday, May 22, 2003. He was born on Jan. 27, 1918 at Doylestown, Pa. to the late John C. and Bertha Myers. Mr. Myers was a member of the Hephzibah Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 25, at 2:30 p.m. at the Hephzibah Mennonite Church with Pastors Austin Hege, Gerald Eshleman and Howard Brubaker officiating. Interment followed at the Hephzibah Mennonite Church Cemetery. Mr. Myers was ordained as a minister in 1954 and served in that capacity for 34 years. He had lived in Pennsylvania and West Virginia before moving to Georgia for the last 23 years of his life. Mr. Myers is preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters. Mr. Myers is survived by his wife, Viola Histand Myers, whom he married on June 9, 1945. Also surviving are a sister, Esther Derstine of Doylestown, Pa.; a daughter, Linda Shifflett of Weyers Cave, Va.; two sons, Allen Myers of Knoxville, Md. and Timothy Myers of Keysville; and 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family received friends on Saturday, May 24, from 6-8:30 p.m. at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home in Hephzibah. Mrs. Shirley Brown
Mrs. Shirley Bishop Brown, 89, of Fourth St., entered into the presence of our Lord Jesus, Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Burke Med-ical Center. A celebration of her life was held Thursday, May 29, at 5:30 p.m. at Bur-ke Memorial Gardens with the Revs. Harold Rowland and Richard Daniel officiating. The family received friends following the services. Mrs. Brown was a native of Emanuel County and was born April 22, 1914. She had been a resident of Waynesboro since 1947 and was a graduate of Summertown High School in Emanuel County in 1931. She was a Baptist by faith and a member of First Baptist Church, Waynesboro, for over 50 years where she was a member of the W.M.U. and also the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a Training Union Teacher and a nursery worker. Mrs. Brown was the devoted wife of the late Eddie T. Brown (1965) for 32 years, and is also preceded in death by her parents, Willie B. Bishop and Sylvania Scott Bishop, and a son, Edward (Ed) Brown (1983). Her children were a joy to Mrs. Brown. She enjoyed babysitting for many years, and also had a deep love for the Lord. She will be greatly missed by her family. Survivors include a daughter, Marion B. (Walter) Agerton of Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Lynn Agerton of Milledgeville; two grandsons, Jeff Bowen of Jackson, S.C. and Michael Cheney of Grovetown; one great-granddaughter, Sarah-Ann Grace Miller of Millegeville; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Emory L. Parker
Mr. Emory Louis Parker, 84, beloved husband and father, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Brentwood Terrace Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at Green Fork Baptist Church in Perkins with the Rev. Jon Sullivan officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Parker was born in Screven County, retired from Parker Motor Company and attended Green Fork Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Ophelia Parker of Screven County and his brothers, Harrison Parker and Leon Parker. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rosie Clarke Parker of Millen; a daughter, Emma Lee Johnson of Vidette; a son, Norman Louis Parker of Millen; three grandchildren, Norman Parker of Millen, Amy Filson of Norman, Okla. and Pamela Johnson of Augusta; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Willie L. Parker and Leo Parker, both of Millen and Millard Parker of Augusta; and two sisters, Louise Perryman and Elease Clarke, both of Millen.
Mr. William McLeod Sr.
Mr. William R. McLeod Sr., 53, husband of Glenda Shrews-bury McLeod, of Summerville, S.C., died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in Waynesboro.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 30 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Summerville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. McLeod was born July 19, 1949 in Millen, a son of the late Edward B. McLeod Sr. and Jane Gresham McLeod. He was food salesman for Keebler. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Shrewsbury McLeod; two sons, William R. McLeod Jr. and Travis G. McLeod, both of Summerville; one brother, Orrin G. McLeod of Ashland, Kentucky; two sisters, Mary Ellen Towles of Summerville and Jane Siegling of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.. He was predeceased by one brother, Edward B. Mrs. Alma Ruth Brown
Mrs. Alma Ruth Brown, 84, of Twin City, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Metter Nursing Home after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 1, at 3 p.m. at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Twin City with the Revs. Johnny Beasley and Ronnie Collins officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery. Mrs. Brown was a native of Tampa, Fla. She was a homemaker and a member of the Friendship Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus C. Brown and her son, Harvey Lee Brown. Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Jones of Baxley and Ester Spires of Alexander; two sons, James Brown and David Brown, both of Twin City; one sister, Naomi Branting of Tampa; and 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Pallbearers were Shannon Brown, Vincent Spires, Roger Spires, Earl Spires, Henry Crosby and Kevin Ronco. The family received friends Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m.
Mrs. Jane L. Warman
Mrs. Jane L. Warman, 60, of Greiner Circle entered into rest Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at her residence. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, June 5, at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel in Waynesboro. Mrs. Warman was a home-maker and of the Jewish faith. She had resided in Burke County for 26 years and was preceded in death by her parents, George Kiefer and Catherine Ashburn Kiefer, and a son, Rodney Warman II in 1992. Survivors include her husband, Rodney D. Warman of Waynesboro; one son, Anthony (Tony) Sordillo of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Danile F. Sordillo of Waynesboro; a son-in-law John T. Jackson of Waynesboro; a very dear and close friend, Patricia Holley of Waynesboro; one brother, Dr. Garry Kiefer of Lake Jackson, Tex.; and one grandchild, Mariah Jackson of Waynesboro.
Mr. Ronald Lykes
Mr. Ronald Lykes, 61, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at his residence near Millen.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, June 18), at 4 p.m. at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Raymond Trent officiating. Burial will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Lykes, a Chatham County native, was a member of Big Horse Creek Baptist Church and a long haul truck driver for over 44 years for David Clayton Trucking. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War and Korean conflict for over 18 years. Mr. Lykes was preceded in death by his twin brother, Donald Lykes.
Survivors include his wife, Everlee Lykes of Millen; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Mike Trotter of Blooming-dale; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kathy Curl of Savannah; three stepdaughters, Beverely Windham, Shannon Murray and Tina Gardner, all of Guyton; a stepson, Dell Murray of Guyton; a half-brother, Cedrick Mackie Mallard of Vidalia; a godmother, Ola Mae Fries of Sylvania; and eight grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Dickey, Pete Brannen, David Clayton, John Friese, Steve Gardner, Dell Murray, Johnny Osborne. Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home of Sylvania was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Harold “Pop” Quick Jr
Mr. Harold “Pop” Quick Jr., 50, entered into rest Monday, June 23, 2003 at Burke Medical Center. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Jeff Flowers officiating. Friends may call or visit at 110 Red Bud Lane or one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning.
Pop Quick was the center-piece of a large and extended family, and it is hard for us to say goodbye to him. Although the last few years had been hard for him physically, he continued to live life to the fullest. He always had a warm smile and a kind word for everyone. His life was devoted to taking care of his family. He was a loving husband, passionate father, a caring son and a committed brother. For as long as he could, he dedicated himself to supporting and providing for those closest to him.
In just a few words, Pop was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, and he hardly ever missed an Atlanta Braves game. The things we will most remember about Pop, though can hardly be put into words. Simply by entering a room, Pop could light up the faces of every person in it. A humorous phrase or a crooked grin from Pop could lift almost anyone’s spirit. We are never going to forget the way a warm look from him made us feel.
Pop’s inner strength has forever influenced his sons, siblings, nieces and nephews. We will always remember how wonderful the time was, that we were blessed to spend with him. Pop we are grateful for the memories we have of you and eternally thankful for the blessing of your life. We will miss you more than you could have imagined. We love you.

Mr. Wayne Cooper
Mr. Robert Wayne Cooper Sr., 63, of Waynesboro entered into rest Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Memorial services were held Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Waynes-boro, with Dr. G. Al Wright officiating. The family received friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Cooper was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County, the son of the late Tom and Marie Cooper and loving husband of Martha G. Cooper. Wayne was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Waynesboro and a member of the Waynesboro Exchange Club. He was a former employee of Goldberg’s Furniture Company, Waynesboro and was the store manager of Heilig-Meyers Furniture, Waynesboro, until its closing. He was presently employed by the First National Bank of Waynesboro.
Wayne was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who loved his family very much. He always wanted peace and happiness for everyone. “Wayne’s heart was bigger than his body.”
Survivors include his wife, Martha G. Cooper of Waynes-boro; two sons, Robert Wayne Cooper Jr. of Augusta and Johnny Cooper of Athens; two daughters-in-law, Patricia Cooper-Fincher and Venessa Cooper; stepmother, Carole Cooper of Waynesboro; two brothers, Tom Cooper of Millen and David Cooper of Waynesboro; two sisters, Sheila Long of Hephzibah and Linda Jenkins of Waynesboro; and three grandchildren, Derek and Dallas Cooper and Roy Hitzeman.

Elbert Eugene Kight
Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Elbert Eugene Kight, 64, of Hephzibah died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 in the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Hospital of Fort Gordon, after an extended illness.
Funeral services were 3 p.m., Saturday, June 21, at Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel in Vidalia, with the Revs. Allen Meeks and Mike Andrews officiating. Burial was at Mt. Shady Church Cemetery. Sgt. Maj. Kight was a native of Toombs County and served in the U.S. Army for 26 years prior to retiring in 1990. He had lived in Hephzibah since his retirement. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his widow, Terry Kight of Hephzibah; two daughters, Linda Hite of Oak Park and Tammy Newman of Hephzibah; three sons, Donald Kight of Fayetteville, N.C. and Gary Holder and Kenneth Kight, both of Hephzibah; a brother, Q.A. Kight of Oak Park; two sisters, Margaret Willis and Nell Evans, both of Uvalda; and six grandchildren.
