Funeral services for Mrs. Evangelina DeAnda Garcia, 78, of South Houston, Texas, were conducted Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the graveside in Centralhatchee Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Bingham officiating.
Pallbearers were Scott Shomaker, Jason Kee, Mickey Garcia, Chris Kee, Faustino Kee and Jimmy Kee.
Mrs. Garcia was born March 30, 1923 in Monterey, Mexico to the late Bastasio DeAnda and Esther de la Garza DeAnda. She was a devoted wife ahd mother and was loved by all she knew for her great generosity and dedication to loving others. She was known far and wide for her beautiful seamstress work. Mrs. Garcia was a Catholic by faith. She died April 8, 2001 at the Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena, Texas.
Surviving are her husband, Hilario E. Garcia of South Houston, Texas; daughter, Maria Kee of Douglasville, Ga.; son. F. H. Garcia of Austell, Ga.; five grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Addie Andrews Dodds Edge, 78, died April 5, 2001.
She was born April 22, 1922 to the late Mrs. Willie Clyde Evans Andrews and the late Mr. Bennie Andrews. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church of Yatesville, Ga. She later moved her membership to St. John Baptist Church of Newnan. She was a "Mother" on the Mother's Board until her health failed. Her first husband, William A. Dodds Sr., preceded her in death as did sisters, Mrs. Susie Mae Dossie and Mrs. Luella "Kid" (Tim) Woodard, and a grandchild, Christopher Dodds.
A funeral will be Tuesday, April 10 at 1 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church, Shenandoah, with the Rev. W. J. Clark, eulogist, assisted by evangelist Susie Hudson, Rev. Carzell Reid, Rev. Lowinston Jackson and other ministers. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Grandchildren and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

A funeral will be Tuesday, April 10 at 1 p.m. at Abundant Life Church, 6440 Rockspring Road, Lithonia, Ga., with the Pastor Woodrow Walker II officiating. Mr. Lee Chance, 80, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Chance was born October 21, 1920 in Cobb County, Ga. He was president and general manager of Trailer Rental in Atlanta. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Chance on Dec. 31, 1995; son, William A. Hixson; and brother, Charles Chance.
The family received friends Thursday, April 5 from 5-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan.

Mr. Ralph Keith, 94, of Northside Drive, Clearwater, Florida, died Saturday, April 7, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Keith was born March 5, 1907 in Luthersville, Ga. He lived in Newnan before moving to Atlanta, Ga. with his wife Margaret Holmes Keith. He retired as an accountant for Knight Ice Company after 40 years of service.
A funeral will be held at graveside in Oak Hill Cemtery Wednesday, April 11 at 10 a.m. Dr. Gary Parrish will officiate.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Margaret H. Keith of Clearwater, Florida; daughters, Jane Decker and Susan Glover; son, Fred Keith; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sadie Caldwell Rogers, 87, of Newnan, died at Franklin Nursing Home April 8, 2001.
Mrs. Rogers was born to the Rev. Herman Caldwell and Mrs. Joycie Bledsoe Caldwell August 4, 1913. She was a homemaker and was dedicated to raising her family. She was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church and for the last several years attended Miracle Tabernacle of Newnan.
Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband of more than 40 years, Hulett Rogers .
Surviving are a son, Rev. Jimmy Rogers of Newnan; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gordon Sims, 96, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, April 8, 2001 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs, Ga.

Mr. Sims was born April 1, 1905 in Meriwether County, son of the late John Preston Sims and the late Lizzie Woodruff Sims. He was a lifelong resident of Hogansville, was a member of Emmaus Primitive Baptist Church, and was retired from Uniroyal Inc. after 45 years of service.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Lois Whitten and Mrs. Virginia Marchman, both of Hogansville, and Mrs. Dorothy Fuller of LaGrange; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. James Ray Thompson, 70, of Luthersville Road, Luthersville, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale.
Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 10, 1930 in Alvaton, son of the late John and Ludie Wilson Thompson. He was a heavy equipment operator for the public works departments in Fayette County and Meriwether County before his retirement.
Mr. Thompson was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army. He lived most of his life in the Senoia and Luthersville communities.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Alvaton with Rev. Winston Skinner officating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Alexander Eugene Lakatos, Sr., 57, of Newnan, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Lakatos was born May 27, 1943, in Carteret, NJ, to the late Arthur and Lena Secondi Lakatos. Mr. Lakatos was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Mission and the Knights of Columbus.
A Snap-On Tools dealer since 1984, Mr. Lakatos won numerous sales awards during his career. He enjoyed "show cars," NASCAR, the Atlanta Braves, and Panama City Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dylan Edwards.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. George's Catholic Church. Father Joseph Morris will officiate, and burial will be in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta. Mr. Frank Ralph Roberto, 78, of Franklin, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Piedmont Hospital.
Mr. Roberto was born May 11, 1922 in Nanticoke, Penn., to the late Ralph and Johanna Roberto. He was an engineering graduate of Newark College in New Jersey, and worked as a power plant engineer, retiring from Pullman Power in 1987.
During World War II, Mr. Roberto served in the Army Air Force as a bombardier aboard a B-29 Bomber. After his retirement, he moved to Franklin to be near his family, where he continued to enjoy ballroom dancing and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Laura Gwen Roberto; sons Douglas Adams and his wife Diana of Newnan and Greg Adams of Franklin; and 10 grandchildren.
The family plans to hold a memorial service at a later date.

Mr. Walker was born Feb. 11, 1944, in Haralson County. He worked as a stockman for Ford Motor Company, and was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Rico and College Park Masonic Lodge 454 F&AM.

Mr. Cleveland was born September 7, 1919 in Coweta County. He was retired vice president of Southern Mills. A veteran, he served in the United States Army in World War II in the Pacific and in Europe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Cleveland; brother, J. W. Cleveland of Miami, Fla.; and sister, Elizabeth Cobb of Opelika, Ala.

Mr. Homer Lee Johnson Sr. of Sargent, Ga. died April 1, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Johnson was born Feb. 24, 1930 to Anna Gauge Johnson and Sam Johnson (deceased) of Reform, Ala. He was the father of three sons and one daughter. A son, Willie Johnson Sr., preceded him in death.

The Rev. Dr. Basil B. Jones
The Rev. Dr. Basil B. Jones, Douglasville, Ga., died at Wwllstar Douglas Hospital March 29, 2001 after a short illness.
Dr. Jones was born in Kingston, Jamaica September 17, 1937 to the late Herbert A. and Muriel J. Jones. He lived in Douglasville with his wife, Rev. (Dr.) Betty R. Jones and two of his grandsons, Ryan and Gerald. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, A. Tennyson Palmer and three children, Charles, Valerie and William.
Dr. Jones was Christ-centered and devoted much of himself to feeding and clothing those in need. He was committed to the "least of us." He was a member and part of the ministerial staff at J. S. Hammond Missionary Baptist Church in Palmetto, Ga. It was there he and his wife founded the "Missionaries of Mercy," an outreach ministry of the church. He was ordained a Baptist minister at the Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Stamford, Connecticut. Prior to that he was ordained as an elder in the Church of God in Christ Jesus in that city.
He was educated in Kingston, Jamaica, and City College of New York. He received the Doctorate of Humane Letters from Logos Graduate School. His accomplishments were numerous. Driven by the desire to succeed, Dr. Jones became the first black man to own and operate a shipping company (Diamond Shipping) in the United States. He and his wife also owned and operated a travel agency, and a wholesale fuel distribution company. He was also a general partner in New Stamford Enterprises. Dr. Jones would not like to be remembered by these accomplishments, but as one who loved and served the Lord with diligence.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. at J. S. Hammond Missionary Baptist Church, 211 Beckman St., Palmetto, Ga. Rev. Willie R. Starks, pastor, officiating. His remains will be forwarded to Kingston, Jamaica for a funeral service April 12.
Surviving in addition to his mother, wife and two grandsons are four children, Michael T. A. Jones of Daytona Beach, Florida, Jacqueline B. Jameison (Mario) and Carolyn J. Stephenson (Andrew) of Stamford, Connecticut and A. Miss Mary Christine Rigsby, 84, of Garden Terrace Nursing Home, Douglas County, Ga., and formerly of Carrollton, Ga., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mrs. Rigsby was a native of Carroll County and born September 4, 1916, daughter of the late William Loyd Rigsby and Viola Abigail Wilson Rigsby. She was a member of the Cross Plains Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Mildred Boatright, Carrollton, Mrs. Melba Phillips, Reedsport, Oregon; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Rigsby, Newnan, Mrs. Christine Rigsby, Sargent; several nieces and nephews. The family was receiving friends Wednesday from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs. Nona Johnson, 72, of Wallace Gray Circle, Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was born October 28, 1928 to Carl Elder and Loudia Eravin Elder. She was a lady who had a take charge personality, one who never backed down to any challenges, and every challenge was met with conviction. She gave her life to God at a very early age to prepare for the important role God had assigned to her. She married Havis Johnson November 11, 1957. As first lady of Westside Church of Christ she worked faithfully and diligently serving the Lord. One daughter preceded her in death, Leona Brinson.
A funeral will be Thursday, April 5 at noon at Sims Avenue Church of Christ, Atlanta, Ga., with Brother William Goolsby officiating, assisted by Brother Clifford Robert, Bro. Arthur Scott and Bro. Todd Rhoden. Burial in the Lincoln Cemetery in Atlanta. Pallbearers: Marvin Simpson, Ernest White, Ulyesses Fletcher, Davis White, Karon Mayo and Phil Dixon. Mr. Daniel C. Langford, 62, of Brooks, Ga., formerly of Stone Mountain, died Tuesday morning, April 3, 2001 at Atlanta Medical Center.
Daniel Crawford Langford was born in Brooks, Ga. February 14, 1939, son of longtime mayor Hubert R. Langford (1901-1987) and Kathryn Crawford Langford (1905-1995). His early education was at Brooks District School, where his mother served as principal and as his 7th and 8th grade teacher. Later he attended Fayette County High School, where he met Jane Schell, his future wife. Dan and Jane graduated from FCHS in 1957, courted throughout college, and were married at Fayetteville Methodist Church Dec. 27, 1961, shortly after Dan's graduation from the University of Georgia.
Surviving are his widow, Jane Schell Langford; children, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel C. (Lesley) Langford Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Michael W. (Amy) Daughtry, all of Brooks, and Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan P. (Karina) Langford of Senoia; four grandchildren, Daniel "Niel" C. Langford III, M. Porter Daughtry, J. Hampton Langford, and Madeline "Mattie" Brooks Daughtry, all of Brooks.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 6 at the First United Methodist Church of Fayetteville. The Rev. Thomas F. van Laningham and Rev. George E. Wascovich will officiate. Burial will be in Brooks Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mr. Tom Watson Levens, 83, of Franklin, Ga., were held Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the New Springs Methodist Church with the Reverends Larry McDaniel, Jimmy Henry and Radford Evans officiating. Pallbearers were James Fuller, Terry Fuller, Allen Hogan, Watson Adams, Wayne Sanders, Dock Smith, Frank Crook and Wendell Craven. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Levens was born August 6, 1917 in Heard County, Ga. to the late Robert N. Levens and Rebecca S. Noles Levens. He was retired from the Heard County Board of Education where he served the children of Heard County. For many years he had his own plumbing business.
He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II where he was a gunner. He was a faithful member of the New Springs Methodist Church and had served for more than 30 years as one of its deacons. Mr. Levens was a much loved husband and father.
A son, Timmy G. Levens, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Mozell Wright Levens; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas W. Levens, Theron E. Levens and Helen Wilson Levens, Tilman L. Levens and Vicki Mathews Levens; grandchildren, Keith Levens, Chris Levens and Barry Levens; six great-grandchildren, all of Heard County.

Mr. Ralph Thurman Maxwell, 70, of Troopville, Ga., formerly of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, April 2, 2001 at the Well Star Cobb Hospital in Austell, Ga.
Mr. Maxwell was born July 8, 1930 in Carroll Counnty, Ga. to the late Sid Malone Maxwell and Jonnie Pearl Reaves Maxwell. From 1963 to 1980 he served the children of Troup County as the principal of the Unity Elementary School on Park Avenue, LaGrange, Ga. He served his country in the United States Naval Reserves until retirement. Mr. Maxwell was a faithful member of the Caney Head United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Tyus, Ga. where he served several terms as the Worshipful Master, the Atlanta Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and Shrine Masonic organizations. After retirement he remained active in both the Carroll-Heard Retired Teachers Association and the Troup Retired Teachers Association. He was also active in the Heard County Cattleman's Association, the Troup Travelers, and past president of the Heard County Farm Bureau.
A funeral will be Wednesday, April 4 at 2 p.m. from the Caney Head United Methodist Church with the Reverends Hershal Phillips and Adam Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Crews Family cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Maxwell will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Funeral services for Mr. Clence Russell Patterson, 65, of Franklin, Ga., were conducted Friday, March 30, 2001 at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home with Major Kenneth Bush (chaplain Salvation Army reteired) officiating. Carol Denney, former daughter-in-law of Mr. Patterson, read a poem written by her daughter Malisa Patterson, and then followed with her own tribute.
Pallbearers were Rusty Patterson, Jerry Patterson, Randy Patterson, David Patterson, Jason Patterson, Keith Patterson, Jackie Brown. Burial was in the Mount Pleasant Church Cemetery.
Mr. Patterson was born April 11, 1935 in Marshall County, Ala. to the late Arbie Patterson and Birdie Wilkerson Patterson. For many years he owned Patterson PulpWood Company, and after retirement spent many years in service to the Salvation Army, where he was able to contribute to many lives. He was well known in that organization for his generosity to all mankind.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Mayo Ptterson; daughter, Dedria Brown; sons, Rusty Patterson, Jerry Patterson, David Patterson, all of Franklin, and Randy Patterson of San Diego, California; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Barbie Brown.

Mr. Newell Mozell Taylor Sr., 88, born August 15, 1912 in Glenloch, Ga., died March 31, 2001 in Garland, Texas.
He was a member of the Christian faith, a member of the Masonic Lodge and he was a Shriner. Mr. Taylor worked as a Revenue Officer during Prohibition.
Surviving are his sons, Newell Mozell Taylor Jr. and Robert Jewell Taylor; daughters, Scarlett Yvonne Taylor and Kelly Hobart Taylor; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Mordelle Bruce Taylor, five brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Mary Elma Ball, 81, of Newnan, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Newnan Hospital.
Mrs. Bell was born Jan. 13, 1920, to the late Claude A. Stogner and Rachel Elizabeth Ikard Stogner in Huntsville, Ala. Mrs. Bell graduated from Huntsville High School in 1938 and married Stanley Matthew Bell on Nov. 29, 1940. Following her husband's death in 1996, Mrs. Bell moved to Newnan, where she joined First United Methodist Church.
A grave-side service will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewater, Fla.
Surviving are her daughter, Betty Bell Dunaway of Newnan; her sister Lynda Stogner Dugan of Sommerville, Ala.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bolton was born Nov. 25, 1900, in Coweta County, to the late Tom and Fanny Bolton. He joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age, and was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Williams Bolton.

Mrs. Nellie Ransby Poythress, 94, of Newnan, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Poythress was born Oct. 1, 1906, in Heard County to the late William and Beulah Ransby. She joined the Bethel Heard Baptist Church at a very early age, and served on the Usher and Mother boards for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Poythress, Sr., and her first and third-born sons, Arthur Poythress and George Poythress Jr.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Heard Baptist Church in Newnan. The Rev. Clinton Melson will officiate, assisted by the Revs. Lee Poythress, Tony Poythress,and R.W.
