Mrs. Ruth Boynton Beers, 94, of Florence, Alabama, and formerly of Newnan, died Monday, May 28, 2001, in New Hampshire.

Mrs. Beers was born August 10, 1906, in Newnan. She was a homemaker, and a member of Central Baptist Church. Mrs. Beers was preceded in death by her husband, Lynwood S. Beers, Sr., and her son, Lynwood S. Beers, Jr.

A grave-side ceremony will be held Thursday, May 31, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. Dr. Joel Richardson will officiate.

Surviving are her sister, Julia Davis of Gulfport, Miss., and her daughter-in-law, Joann Beers of Florence.

Mr. Cecle E. Brown, 73, of Hogansville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Hospice LaGrange.

Mr. Brown was born March 28, 1928, in Alabama to the late William Russell Brown and the late Beulah Meeks Brown. He lived in the Hogansville area most of his life. Mr. Brown was retired from Uniroyal, Inc. in Hogansville, and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

A funeral will be held Friday, June 1, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Revs. Milton Hall and Murray Hyatt will officiate, and burial will be in Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery in Ranburne, Ala.

Surviving are his daughter, Doris Brisberist of Milton, Fla.; sisters, Velma Folds of Hogansville and Marie Williams of Graham, Ala.; brother, Maynard Brown of Newnan; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Guy W. Helton, 67, of Hogansville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Mr. Helton was born Nov. 24, 1933, in Carroll County to the late Clifford and Willie Foster Helton. An Army veteran, he had lived in Hogansville for the past 35 years and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville. He retired as a shipping coordinator for Mead Corporation in Greenville.

A funeral will be held Friday, June 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Wesley Boatman and Mr. Roy Wright will officiate and burial will be in the Grantville Cemetery.

Mrs. Edna Brown Adams, 90, of East Broad Street, Newnan, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001.

She was born August 7, 1910 in Etowah County, Alabama to the late Grover C.. "G.C." Brown and Lillie Haistens Brown. She was a retired textile worker from Newnan Cotton Mills and a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin John Adams; and three sons, Eugene, Virgil and Doyle Adams.

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Geneva and Doyle Morris of Cedartown, Margaret Rogers of Grantville, Glenda and Earl Cash of Newnan,and Ann and Ralph Farr of Moreland; two daughters-in-law, Jessie Mae Adams of Newnan and Martha Sue Adams of Carrollton; two sisters, Viola Holland of Rome, Ga. and Myrtice Swafford of Cedartown, Ga.; two brothers, Henry Brown of Cedartown, and Harvey Brown of Ft. Payne, Ala.; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Thursday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at Martin and Hightower Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan with the Rev. Clifton Brown and Rev. Tim Cash officiating. Music will be rendered by Melissa West and Justin Thompson.

Pallbearers will be Adam Cash, Mike Lester, Mike Farr, Terry Rogers, Phillip Adams and Jody Hunnicutt. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. C. E. Andrews, 71, of Carrollton, Ga., died Monday, May 28, 2001 at his home.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. A. W. Kent, the Rev. Carl Jiles and the Rev. Timothy Lamb will officiate and burial wil be in Hillview East Cemetery in LaGrange, Ga.

Mr. Andrews was born June 24, 1929 in Spalding County, son of the late Charlie Pink Andrews and the late Lula Mae Beard Andrews. A former resident of LaGrange and Sargent, he had lived in Carrollton for the past 32 years and was a member of Carrollton Church of God. He was retired from Douglas and Lomason Company in Carrollton.

Surviving are son, Ronnie Andrews of Douglasville; a step-daughter, Aurelia Crowe of Bowdon; two granddaughters, Melonie and Ashley; a special friend, Faye Baggett of Carrollton; a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Monroe M. "Boots" Eason, 73, of Bonaventure Drive, LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, May 28, 2001 at West Georgia Medical center in LaGrange.

Mr. Eason was born April 15, 1928 in Coweta County, son of Carl Monroe and Sally Mae Strickland Eason. He was retired from Westbrook Service and Tire Company and had lived in LaGrange for the past 43 years. He was a member of the Dunson United Methodist Church.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at Hunter-Allen-Myhand chapel in LaGrange with Dr. Dan Crawford and Rev. Floyd Tenney officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Morene Gordon, 86, of Arnco Third Street, in the Arnco Community west of Newnan, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Gordon was born April 4, 1915 in Heard County. She was retired from the textile production field.

Mr. Ivey was born August 6, 1916 in Carroll County, son of the late Tom and Louellen Mote Ivey. He had lived in Grantville for a number of years, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantville, and was a retired farmer and merchant.

Born November 19, 1923 in Pine Bluff, AR, Mrs. Rickenbaker was a homemaker and member of Unity Baptist Church.

Visitation was Saturday, May 26, at McKoon Funeral Home. Funeral services were Sunday, May 27 at McKoon Funeral Home at 2 p.m., with Danny Wilson and Rev. Bill Dean officiating. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Patricia Williams Brandenburg, 88, of Hollonville, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation center.

Mrs. Brandenburg was born June 3, 1913, in Coweta County to the late James Franklin Williams and Alice Blanche Williams. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Meriwether County, where she served as pianist for many years. Mrs. Brandenburg lived most of her adult life in Homestead, Fla. In Homestead, she co-founded the Jr. Church Program at the First United Methodist Church.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home in Griffin. The Revs. Gene Turkett and Merrill N. Roberts will officiate, and burial will be in the Haralson Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Monday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamson United Methodist Church Building Fund, of to the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, Ga.

Mr. Mack Flynn Chandler, Jr.
Mr. Mack Flynn Chandler, Jr., 81, died Saturday, May 26, 2001.

Mr. Chandler was the son of the late Alma and Mack Chandler. He was a member of Sylvan Hills Baptist Church for over 30 years, a member of Newnan First Baptist Church for three years, and a member of the Lakewood Masonic Lodge 443 F&AM for over 50 years. He served for four years in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending much time in Hawaii. Later, he served as a member of the occupational forces in Japan where he made new friends and was invited to a Japanese home. Mr. Chandler worked as a photo engraver for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for 35 years. He was a capable and happy "Mr. Fix It," and a skilled woodworker who took great pride in building 13 grandfather clocks. He also did leather working, and helped his sons-in-law build a cradle for his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Carole, his brother Benson, his nephews, David and Warren, and many friends and in-laws.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Dr. Gene Tyre will officiate, and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive guests Monday, May 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Leroy Burks, 83, of San Diego, California and a former resident of Grantville, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at his home.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Rev. Max McCord will officiate and interment will be in the Grantville Cemetery.

Mr. Burks was born September 16, 1917, son of the late Frank and Ella Pitts Burks. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he lived in the Atlanta area for a number of years and was a retired shipping supervisor for Atlanta Dairies. Following his retirement, he lived in Florida for 16 years, in Missouri for two years, and he had recently made his home in San Diego. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Churc in Town and Country, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Crawford Burks; one son, Dennis Burks; and two grandchildren, Brian James Burks and Sarah Anne Burks, all of San Diego.

Mrs. Anna Frances Glazier, 77, of 1899 Old Hwy. 85 in Senoia, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Born November 27, 1923, Mrs. Glazier was a retired post office employee.

Visitation was at McKoon Funeral Home Saturday, May 26. Services will be graveside at Senoia City Cemetery on Sunday, May 27 at 4 p.m., with Rev. Carol Cook officiating.

Survivors include a husband, Jesse Hiram Glazier; one son, Ted Glazier; two daughters, Wanda Jones and Donna Walker; and six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sallie Hester Keel, 84, of LaGrange, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at Hospice LaGrange.

The funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 27 at graveside in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange, with the Reverend Benny Phillips officiating.

Born March 22, 1917 in Elmore, Alabama, Mrs. Keel was the daughter of the late Ed and Mary Bailey Hester. She was a life-long resident of LaGrange, was retired from Callaway MIlls Company, and she was a member of East LaGrange Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late J.T. Keel.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter in-law, Frank and Martha Keel of LaGrange and Jack Keel of Panama City, Fla; one sister, Mrs. Willie Mae Hall of LaGrange; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Born July 27, 1928 in Fayette County, Mrs. Minix was a homemaker and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Porchous Bohannon
Mr. Porchous Bohannon, 84, of Norwalk, Connecticut, died May 19, 2001 in Connecticut.

A funeral will be Saturday, May 26 at 2 p.m. in the Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel, Greenville Street, Newnan, Ga. Bishop Alfred C. Bohannon Jr. will be eulogist. Burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church cemetery in the Corinth community. Pallbearers will be Robert Meadows, Adrian Potts, Melvin Meadows, William Bohannon, Melvin Cruver and John Kirkpatrick. Nieces will serve as flower ladies.

Mr. Bohannon was born September 2, 1916 to the late Henry and Lougenia Hutchinson Bohannon. At an early age he joined New Hope Baptist Church and was educated at the Mount Gilead Elementary School.

Soon after Mr. Bohannon took a job as a truck driver and relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee. He returned to Grantville where he married Willie Waters Bohannon. He and his wife relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts, where he was employed and retired from Fisk Tire Inc. He was a fun and loving kind-hearted individual who loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and six brothers and his wife.

Surviving are brother, John Henry Bohannon of Gulfport, Mississippi; sisters, Ollie Pearl Holmes of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Fannie Bohannon of Stratford Connecticut, Lillian Johnson of Milford, Conn., Olivia Mitchell and Fairest Potts of Atlanta, Ga., and Margaret Rogers of Carson City, California; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Leroy Burks, 83, of San Diego, California, and a former resident of Grantville, Ga., died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Mary Virginia (Jennie) Milner
Mrs. Mary Virginia (Jennie) Milner, 81, of Newnan, died at Newnan Hospital Tuesday, May 22, 2001.

Mrs. Milner was born to Ira Stonewall Jackson Belk and Nancy Lee Melvin Belk in Polk County, Ga., August 11, 1919, and had spent most of her life in Newnan. Mrs. Milner was a homemaker who loved to cook, babysit her grandchildren, work word puzzles and watch television. She was a member of Sharpsburg Baptist Church approximately 50 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Lewis Edward Milner Sr., who whom she had been married for 27 years at the time of his death in 1972; sons, William Eugene Milner and Robert Wayne Milner Sr.; and two brothers, Blanchard Belk and Marshall Belk.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Sarah Milner Jr. of Seale, Ala., David and Myra Milner of Slocum, Ala., Charlie Ray and Nancy Milner of Newnan, Emory Milner of Newnan; daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline and Jim Richbourgh of Belton, S.C., Nan and James Truesdell of Columbus, Ga., Glenda and Bobby Williams of Graham, Ala., Alice Sutton, Diane and Jerry Lavender, Betty Jean and Paul Anson, all of Newnan; sister, Annie Kate Smith of Columbus, Ga.; 36 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family was receiving friends 6-9 p.m., Thursday, May 24 at Jones Funeral Home in Newnan.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 25 at Sharpsburg Baptist Church, 6413 Highway 54, Sharpsburg, Ga., with Mrs. Milner's body placed in state at noon. Pastor Richard Clay, Rev. Thurman Slusser and Rev. Earl Eversole will officiate. Pallbearers will be Forrest Copeland, Steve Burnes, Danny Anson, David Segrest, Gordy Anderson and Lennis Chambers. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Gerald E. Brown, 59, of Grantville, Ga., died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan, Ga.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 25 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Johnie Nunis and the Rev. Milton Hall will officiate, and burial will be in Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Paulding County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 24.

Mr. Brown was born February 23, 1942 in Barbour County, Alabama, son of the late Clifford and Ruby Littlefield Brown. He had lived in Grantville for the past 19 years, attended the Grantville Church of God, and had been employed by Bo-Tex Manufacturing Company in Hogansville.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Shirley Wadsworth Brown of Grantville; three daughters, Mrs. Faye Moore of Newnan, Mrs. Melinda Norred and Mrs. Anna Marie Leauge, both of Carrollton; eight sons, Scott Brown of Corinth, Roger Brown and Randy Brown, both of Grantville, David Wayne Brown and Jerry Mitchell Brown, both of Villa Rica, Ronnie Seldon Brown of Montgomery, Ala., Chris Brown of Carrollton, and Steve Brown of Monroeville, Ala.; brother, Wendell Brown, Columbus; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. David Jesse Peppers of Whitesburg died May 22, 2001.

A funeral will be Friday, May 25 at 2 p.m. at Higgins and Son chapel. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

Mrs. Henrietta Johnson Plant, 82, of McDonough, Ga., and a former resident of Luthersville, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Henry General Medical Center in Stockbridge.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Floyd Tenney and the Rev. Rance Sprayberry will officiate and burial will be in the Luthersville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 24 and 25, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Plant was born January 15, 1919 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Henry and Lizzie Gill Johnson. Before making her home in McDonough in 1998, she was a lifelong resident of Meriwether County and was a member of Luthersville United Methodist Church. She was the wife of the late Murray Plant and was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Jean Barber.

Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Milton and Isabel Plant and Travis Plant, all of McDonough, and Gregory Plant of Luthersville; son-in-law, Jack Barber of Lone Oak; sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Ackerman of Lake Worth, Florida and Mrs. Betty Smith of Colulmbus; two brothers, Herschel Johnson of Newnan and Herbert (Pete) Johnson of Lone Oak; two granddaughters, Mrs. Gail Barber Aydin of Lone Oak and Miss Nancy Lynn Plant of Luthersville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Luthersville Cemetery Fund or the Luthersville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Estelle Lilly Rakes
Mrs. Estelle Lilly Rakes, 89, of Newnan, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Rakes was born October 11, 1911 in Bostwick, Ga. She was the retired owner of a photo shop located in Montevallo, Ala., and was former house director at the University of Montevallo. Mrs. Rakes was a longtime resident of Montevallo and Acmar, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otha Rakes, and infant daughter Janet Rakes.

A funeral will be at Bethel Baptist Church in Odenville, Ala. on Friday, May 25 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fred Boone officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Ruth Lee of Newnan, Ga. and Rose Smitherman of Mobile, Ala.; sister, Rebecca Lilly Armstrong, Modesto, California; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cecile V. Johnson
Mrs. Cecile V. (Huot) Johnson, 74, of London Lane, Sharpsburg, Ga., died Sunday, May 13, 2001 in Haven House Hospice in Atlanta.

Known to friends and loved ones as "C-Jay," she had lived in Sharspburg for the last 10 years and retired from Kroger in 1996. She was working for Cracker Barrel in Union City since 1998 and worked for Jackson Hewitt taxes during tax season since 1994.

Born in Holyoke, Mass., she was a long-time resident of Springfield, Mass., before moving to Sharpsburg. She was the former owner of Combo Corner Ice Creme Stand in Chicopee, Mass., and she was a tax preparer there for H&R Block Co. She was a former communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield. She was a founding member of the Emblem Club at the Ludlow (Mass.) Elks 2445.

A funeral was Wednesday, May 16 at Nowak Funeral Home in Indian Orchard outside Springfield with burial in Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley, Mass.

Surviving are daughter, Gail Scanlon of Sharpsburg; sons, Gary Johnson of Springfield, Neal Johnson of Wilbraham, Mass., and Scot Johnson of Ludlow; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a step-great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mr. Michael Lamar Bloodworth of Newnan died May 11, 2001.

Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Bloodworth; sons, Michael Bloodworth and Matthew Bloodworth; father, Jack Bloodworth; mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lewis; brothers-in-law, Frankie Lewis, Terry Lewis, Steve Lewis; aunt, Jerry Gossett.

A funeral was Monday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at Higgins and Son Chapel. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. R. J. Cofield, 77, of Turner Road, Newnan, died May 19, 2001 at Franklin Health Care Center.

Mr. Cofield was born June 24, 1923 in Tifton, Georgia, to J. O. Cofield and the former Mattie Riller Stapler. He was retired and worked in the field of cotton textiles. He was of the Baptist faith.

A funeral will be in Hillcrest Chapel Tuesday, May 22 at 11 a.m. with Brother Roy Lee Coggin officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joel Freeman, Mark Freeman, Thomas Cofield, Tracy Cofield, Sammy Acree and Chick Reynolds.

Surviving are his niece, Betty Ann Acree of Newnan; great nephews, Thomas Cofield of Carrollton and Tracy Cofield of Carrollton.

Mr. Joseph Emerson Gividen
Mr. Joseph Emerson Gividen, 67, of Riverdale, Ga., formerly of Middletown, Ohio, died at Haven House Hospice Sunday, May 20, 2001.

Mr. Gividen was a retired maintenance engineer for Armco Steel Corporation. He was born to Arthur and Alpha Colliver Gividen in Middletown, Ohio October 18, 1933. An Army Veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict. He also served as a part-time Deputy Sheriff of Warren County, Ohio. Mr. Gividen had been a resident of Riverdale for the past four years and was a member of Fayetteville United Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Gividen is survived by sons, Mr. Ron Gividen of Westchester, Ohio, Rev. N. J. Gividen of Newnan, Ga.; daughter, Mrs. Lisa Longworth of Middletown, Ohio; sister, Mrs. Doris Depew of Monroe, Ohio; and ten grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at graveside Thursday, May 24 at Mound Cemetery, Monroe, Ohio.

Mrs. Ollie Smith Thornton, 77, of the Arnco Community, died Sunday, May 20, 2001 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Thornton was born November 29, 1923 in Coweta County. She was a homemaker and member of Arnco Baptist Church.

A funeral will be Tuesday, May 22 at 1 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan. The Rev. A. C. Jernigan will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

Surviving are her children, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Deborah) Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Harold (Carolyn) Thornton, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby (Raynelle) Talley, Phyllis Ann Adams, Vicki Dukes and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry (Leenie) Bone; brothers, Clifford Smith and Edward Smith; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
