Mr. Joe Pinson Cook Jr., 34, of Newnan died June 1, 2001.

Mr. Cook was born April 22, 1967. He was a loving person who enjoyed landscaping. He wore a constant smile and bore a great sense of humor. He attended East Coweta High School, and he went on to pursue his own business. He was a man of good character and was very committed to his work. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Mr. Tom Scott of Senoia.

Surviving are his mother, Betty L. Cook of Newnan; sisters, Joann of Peachtree City, Marilyn of Riverdale, Doris, Betty M., Monica and Elaine of Newnan; brothers, Roosevelt, Jerome and Jody of Newnan; grandmother, Mrs. Florence Scott of Senoia; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and special customers throughout the community.

A funeral will be Thursday, June 7 at 2 p.m. at Powell Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Geter officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Gay and other ministers. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dexter Reid, Stanley Arnold, Chaz Cook, Peniston Arnold, Christ Thomas and Carlton Scott.

Mr. Ricky Lee Hardaway, 21, of Walnut Creek Lane, Grantville, Ga., died Saturday, June 2, 1001.

Affectionately known as "Little Ricky," Mr. Hardaway was born March 31, 1980 to Mr. and Mrs. Luther Hardaway of Grantville. He joined Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age and attended Meriwether County public schools. He expressed love to everyone and he was always willing to lend a hand to help someone.

A funeral will be Thursday, June 7 at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Grantville. The Rev. C. Melson will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Florence Holbrook died June 5, 2001.

Mrs. Holbrook was a member of Senoia First Baptist Church for 11 years.

A funeral will be Thursday, June 7 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Senoia Road, Peachtree City, Ga. Dr. Ted O. Padgett and Dr. Dean Haun will officiate. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park.

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara H. Bradberry, Jonesboro; sons, Gene E. Holbrook, Senoia, J. Harold Holbrook, Pt. St. Lucie, Fla.; brother, Charles M. Moss, Oxford, Ga.; sisters, Geneva M. Mrs. Jonnie Lucille Daniel Lockett, 84, died Monday, June 4, 2001 in Savannah, Ga. after several years of declining health.

Mrs. Lockett was born February 12, 1917 in Heard County, Ga. to the late Jeptha Lumpkin Daniel and Mary Butler Daniel. She was also preceded in death by her husband Gordon Robinson Lockett, and a daughter, Robin Robinson. Mrs. Lockett was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church. She began her career with the Sears Roebuck Company in Atlanta, Ga. and later served in the Department of Labor where she remained until retirement.

A funeral will be Thursday, June 7 at 11 a.m. at Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin, Ga. with the Revs. Rick McMahan, Talmadge Chandler and Eric Filmer officiating. Burial will be in Franklin City Cemetery.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Marsha Lockett of Savannah, Ga.; two sisters, Irene Heard of Franklin, Ga. and Grace McCauley of Lexington, S.C.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dilmus F. "Shine" "Paw-Paw" McCain
Mr. Dilmus F. "Shine" "Paw-Paw" McCain, 77, of Country Club Road, Newnan, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. McCain was born April 5, 1924 in Cobb County, Ga. to Chester Delone McCain and Myrtice Velma Swann McCain. He was a retired mechanical engineer, having worked at the former Playtex plant; and with his wife co-founded Country Day Child Development Center. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of Poseyville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald McCain as well as his parents.

A funeral will be at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan Friday, June 8, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Parrish and Rev. Benny Waldrop officiating, assisted by Mr. Gary Mitchell and Dr. Stanley McCain. Burial will be in Poseyville Cemetery in Haralson County, Ga. Pallbearers will be Hiram Hurtt, James Mathew Hurtt, Barry Phillips, Ed Newberry, Tony McCain and Larry Capes. Honorary pallbearer will be Harrison McCain Ford.

Mrs. Virginia Bowles "Gint" Anderson, 45, of Luthersville, Ga., died June 1, 2001.

Mrs. Anderson was born November 8, 1955 in Meriwether County, Ga. to Sister Mae Bell Bowles and the late Mr. Leonard Bowles Sr. She was a graduate of Newnan High School, Class of 1975. She married Mr. Wendal Anderson December 27, 1976 and they were married 24 years. They had four children and one granddaughter.

Three brothers preceded her in death, the late Mr. John H. "Bro" Bowles, Mr. William "Baker" Bowles and Mr. Ronald "Paul" Bowles.

Mrs. Judy Carole McCaleb, 58, of Spring Valley Road, Sharpsburg, died Monday, June 4, 2001 in Newnan Hospital.

She was born July 26, 1942 in Fulton County. She was a systems analyst for Delta Airlines where she had worked for 32 years and was a member of the New Park Worship Center.

Surviving are her husband, Pete McCaleb of Sharpsburg; parents, Lillian and George Pritchard of Fayetteville, Ga.; sons, Jeffery P. and Gail Kite and Michael D. "Mickey" Kite, all of Sharpsburg; three step-daughters, Delynne M. Ano of Aurora, Ohio, Erin Lowe of Bakersfield, CA, and Christine McCaleb of Jonesboro, Ga.; grandson, Jeremy P. Kite and four step-grandchildren, Brad and Craig Ano and Chad and Amanda Lowe.

A funeral will be Friday, June 8 at noon at Martin and Hightower Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Hugh McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in College Park.

Mr. Michael Zantrice Colton, 26, of Grantivlle, Ga., died Saturday, June 2, 2001 of injuries sustained in a truck accident in the Tifton, Ga. area.

A funeral will be Wednesday, June 6, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 15 West Washington St., Newnan. Officiating will be the Rev. Gene Tyre, pastor, eulogist Rev. Billy Glanton, and assisted by the Rev. Johnny Strickland. The cortege will assemble at the residence at noon. The remains will lie in state at the church beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Mr. Colton was born December 17, 1974 in Newnan, Ga. He was a graduate of East Coweta High School. He was a member of Greater Jehovah Baptist Church in Grantville.

Surviving are his daughter, Jasmine Samone Colton; mother, Joy Smith; brother, Dwayne Beasley; special nephew, Antonio Graham; a host of aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. A loving special friend, Charles M. Darden.

Mrs. Cora B. Cook, 76, of Newnan died Tuesday, May 29, 2001.

Mrs. Cora B. Cook was born June 24, 1924. She joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age, and served on The Mother's Board until she became ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark "Buster" Cook, and her son, Bobby Clark Cook.

Surviving are grandchildren, Latosha Reene Cook and Kimberly Denise Cook; two great grandchildren, Chancellor and Justyce; daughter-in-law, Miriam Cook; nieces, Mattie Sue Brewer of Dayton, Ohio, Dennis Leonia Hayes of Newnan, Ollie C. Moore of Ft. Washington, M.D., Pier Mehrvarz of Atlanta; nephews, Jerry Hunter of Dayton, Ohio, Charles Hunter and Percy Hunter of Newnan; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral was Monday June 4 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. The Rev. H.H. Dyer was eulogist, assisted by other ministers. Burial at Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the Deacon Board of Mt. Sinai Baptist.

Mr. James Edward Hunt
Mr. James Edward Hunt, age 83, of LaGrange, Ga. died at West Georgia Medical Center Sunday afternoon, June 3, 2001.

Mr. Hunt was born to Marcus Leslie Hunt and Mattie Lou Lanier Hunt in Troup County, Ga. Jan. 16, 1918. Mr. Hunt served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Mr. Hunt was a Mason and a member of Unity Baptist Church in LaGrange. He enjoyed coon hunting and at one time was the treasurer of the Coon Hunters Association. Mr. Hunt retired from the United States Postal Service in 1970.

Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Frances Emily Davis Hunt. He is survived by his brother, Charles W. Hunt; sister, Frances Hunt Moore, both of LaGrange; brother-in-law, Tom Davis of Newnan and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hunt's Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 5 at Unity Baptist Church, LaGrange with Mr. Hunt's body placed in state at 1 p.m. Rev. Bobby Robinson will officiate. Burial in Grantville City Cemetery.

Mr. Tim W. Pike, 39, of Newnan, died Monday, June 4, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

A funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 in the Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Bob Martin will officiate and burial will be in Welcome All Baptist Church Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mr. Pike was born Dec. 17, 1961 in Randolph County, Ala., son of the late Jimmy and Martha Whisenhunt Pike. A former resident of Hogansville, he lived in Newnan for the past five years, was a carpenter and was a member of Lovejoy United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Jennifer Scogin Pike of Newnan; two daughters Casey and Evan Pike; two brothers, Darrell Pike and Greg Pike both of Hogansville; two step-sisters, Lisa McWhorter and Mariea Campbell, both of Hogansville; and two step-brothers, Chris McWhorter of Hogansville and Michael Rainey of Grantville.

Mr. Reed was born March 8, 1939 in Athens, Tenn. He was a production clerk with Excel.

A funeral was at McKoon chapel Tuesday, May 29 at 4 p.m. Dr. Harry H. Barrow officiated.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Kay Reed of Newnan; daughters, Lisa Karen lee and Mary Anne Stanton Reed; grandchildren, Hunter Lee and Lindsey Lee.

Master Lee Dorsey Smith, 9, of Roger Arnold Road, Grantville, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 of injuries sustained in a truck accident in the Tifton, Ga. area.

A funeral will be Wednesday, June 6 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 15 West Washington Street in Newnan. Officiating will be the Rev. Gene Tyre pastor, eulogist Rev. Master Smith was born March 12, 1992 in Newnan. He attended Moreland Elementary School. He also attended Greater Jehovah Baptist church and was a devoted member of Sunday School. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin F. Smith and a brother, Michael Z. Colton.

Surviving are his mother, Joy Smith; three brothers, Dwayne Beasley, Banjamin Smith and Orlando Smith; sisters, Terell Smith and Jessica; grandmother, Frances Beasley; special niece and nephews, Jasmine Samone Colton and Antonio Graham; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other close relatives and friends.

Mrs. Frances Ragsdale Weems, 76, of Sharpsburg, Ga. died Sunday, June 3, 2001at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Mrs. Weems was born February 6, 1925 in the Raymond community of Coweta County and was raised in East Point. She later became a longtime resident of Sharpsburg and was a homemaker. She was a member of Turin United Methodist Church for more than 26 years and was the loving wife of Jimmie Weems for 58 years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Ann Jones.

A funeral will be held at McKoon Funeral Home Tuesday, June 5 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ray King will officiate and burial will be in Sharpsburg Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Hunter Gordon, Reggie Jones, Reg Jones Jr. , Jim Scogin, David H. Smith Sr. and Bob Weems.

She is survived by her husband Jimmie Weems of Sharpsburg; son James W. Weems, Jr. of Ft. Myers, Fla.; sister Katherine Gordon of Newnan; brother Charles Ragsdale of Grayson, Ga.; son-in-law Reggie Jones of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren, Tara Weems Saunders, Katie Weems Barnes and Reginald W. Master Jamondi Rashad White, age 8, of Roger Arnold Road, Grantville, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 in a truck accident in the Tifton, Ga. area.

Master White was born October 31, 1992 in Newnan, Ga. He attended Moreland Elementary School and was described by his family as a loving child with a beautiful smile and loved playing with cousins, friends and spending time with Cody, Susan and Richard Morris. He attended Greater Jehovah Baptist Church of Grantville. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Samuel Brewer.

Surviving are his mother and father, Kimberly Beasley and Robert White; brother, Latrez White; grandmothers, Sarah Brewer and Arlene White; grandfather, Robert "Bobbie" Arnold; aunts and uncles, Trina (Steve) Colton, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome (Kim) White, Dwayne White, Cedric White; great-grandparents, Frances Beasley and Remargie White; great uncles, great aunts, cousins and a host of friends including his best friend Cody.

Mr. William "Bill" Cleveland Whitley
Mr. William "Bill" Cleveland Whitley, Sr., 78, of Glenn, Ga. died May 26, 2001 at Hospice LaGrange after several months of declining health.

Mr. Whitley was born Dec. 12, 1922 in Glenn, Ga. to the late James "Jim" William and Betty Estella Arnett Whitley. He served his country in the Army during World War II, participating in campaigns in France and Central Europe as a truck driver. He was awarded the EAMET Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and an award for merit. After the war he was employed as an exterminator. He was a Baptist by faith and a beloved member of the Glenn community, as well as a devoted father and husband.

A funeral was May 29 in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home with the Revs. Dr. Fredrick Mills and Kenneth Parker officiating.

Pallbearers included Cleveland Adams, Jack Craft, Wilbur Whatley, Ted Sheppard, Arthur Davis and Steve Welch. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Glenn, Ga.

Surviving are his wife Imogean Whitley of the Glenn Community; children, Betty Sue Cantrell Wallace of Franklin, Alice and Tommy Hadaway of Salem, Al., Cleve Whitley, Jr. of Newnan, Dwayne Lowery of Atlanta and Rodney Lowery of Franklin; one sister, Lela Craft of Glenn; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews and friends and other relatives.

Mrs. Lena Robinson Conway, 73, of Hogansville, Ga., died Friday, June 1, 2001 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Charles W. Chapman will officiate and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 Saturday night.

Born April 11, 1928, Mrs. Conway was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Florence Fetner Robinson. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, retired from Uniroyal Inc. after 45 years of service, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in LaGrange. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Conway and a granddaughter, Amy Conway.

A. and Pat Robinson, all of LaGrange, and F.O. and Joan Robinson of Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren, Bobby Conway, Nicky and LeeAnn Hanner, Scotty Hanner and Ashley Hanner; one great-granddaughter, Courtney Hanner.

Mr. Tom Hutcheson of Vidalia, Ga. and formerly of Newnan, died Friday, June 1, 2001.

Mr. Hutcheson was a former teacher and coach and served as principal of Newnan High School in the late 1960s.

Mrs. Winnie Kimble
Mrs. Winnie Kimble, 93, of East Majorie Street, Newnan, died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at her residence.

Mrs. Kimble was born March 4, 1908 in Carroll County, Ga. She was retired from the textile field. She was a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 2, from 2-9 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan.

A funeral will be Sunday, June 3 at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Chapel. The Rev. Jim Hearn and the Rev. David Arrington will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Surviving are daughter, Betty Barrows of Newnan; and son, Ronald "Moose" Kimble of Newnan; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Gilley.

Mr. Peter Arista Landry
Mr. Peter Arista Landry, 79, of Whitesburg, Ga. died at Tanner Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Ga. Wednesday evening, May 30, 2001 after an extended illness.

Mr. Landry was born in Thibodaux, Louisiana to Edgar and Abby Landry in 1921. After finishing school, Mr. Landry worked in the oil drilling industry in the Gulf of Mexico until World War II. As a corporal in the Army, Mr. Landry served in the European Theatre under General George Patton where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge for his gallant participation in the famous Normandy Beach invasion. Most of Corporal Landry's military time was spent in combat areas and specifically the African, Sicilian, Normandy, Holland, Belgium and German Campaigns, for which he received six Battle Stars for his actions. Mr. Landry returned to Louisiana after the war and married Jenny Lou Crews of Whitesburg, Ga. As a machinist in the aircraft industry, Mr. and Mrs. Landry lived in Chicago, Illinois and Hawthorne, California before returning to their home in Whitesburg. In 1969, Mr. Landry began work at the William L Bonnell extrusion company in Newnan and became the company's pollution abatement supervisor in 1972. He retired in 1992. Mr. Landry's hobby was painting. An accomplished artist, he regularly exhibited his paintings and was always popular at the Powers' Crossroads County Fair and Art Festival. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe.

Mr. Landry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Jenny Lou Crews Landry; son, Mr. Ronald Norton Landry of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two grandchildren; Keith Elliott of Fayetteville, Ga. and Ronald Victor Landry of Whitesburg, Ga.; three borthers, Joseph A. Landry of Hemet, California, Mitchell Landry of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Noah Landry of Maurice, Louisiana; two sisters, Rose Ella Shumaker of Sumter, South Carolina and Adeline Shumaker of Atlanta, Ga.; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jones Mill Road, Whitesburg, Ga. on Sunday, June 3, 2001 with the Rev. Thomas Shannon officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 27 Clark Street, Newnan, Ga. 30263.

Mr. Selmon Kytle Reed, 62, of Joe Brown Road, Newnan, Ga., died Friday, March 25, 2001 at his residence.

Mr. Reed was born March 8, 1939 in Athens, Tenn. He was a production clerk with Excel.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan Tueday, May 29 from 3-4 p.m.

A funeral was at McKoon's Tuesday, May 29 at 4 p.m. Dr. Harry H. Barrow officiated.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Kay Reed of Newnan; daughters, Lisa Karen lee and Mary Anne Stanton Reed; grandchildren, Hunter Lee and Lindsey Lee.

Mrs. Christine Virginia Williams
Mrs. Christine Virginia Williams, 75, of Bethlehem Church Road, Grantville, Ga., died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Williams was born December 25, 1925 and was raised in Coweta County, Ga. She worked as a cashier for Kroger, Big Star, Colonial and Marion's Thrift Town for over 30 years. She was employed by the Coweta County School System Food Service Department for 20 years.

The family was receiving friends Friday, June 1 from 6-9 p.m.

A funeral will be at Moreland First United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Richard R. Huycke and Gary Whetstone will officiate. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery on Harris Street. Pallbearers will be Ray Bowden, Eugena Bryant, Phillip Estes, John Evans, Joseph Evans, Eddie Whitelock. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Crum, Tom Darrah, Joseph Lewis Sr., David Smith, Donald Williams and Marvin Williams.

Mrs. Ruth Boynton Beers
Mrs. Ruth Boynton Beers, 94, of Florence, Alabama and formerly of Newnan, died Monday, May 28, 2001 in Florence.

Mrs. Beers was born August 10, 1906 in Newnan. She was an elementary school teacher for 40 years and a member of Central Baptist Church. Her husband, Lynwood S. Beers Sr. and her son, Lynwood S. Beers Jr. preceded Mrs. Beers in death.

A funeral was held at graveside Thursday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. Dr. Joel Richardson officiated.

Pallbearers were Frank Barron, Bobby Beers, Frank Farmer, Hugh Farmer III, David Reynolds Jr. and Harold Barron.

Surviving are her sister, Julia Davis of Gulfport, Miss.; her daughter-in-law, Joann Beers of Florence, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. John Alvin "Al" Colton Sr., 53, of Howard Hughes Road, Newnan, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at his residence.

A funeral will be Saturday, June 2 at 1 p.m. at Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tilden Colton officiating, assisted by the Rev. Willie L. Geter, Rev. Hulon Kemp, Rev. Melvin Brittian Jr. and Evangelist Susie Hudson. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Luthersville, Ga.

Members of the Central High School Classof 1967 will be honorary pallbearers and flower ladies. Active pallbearers will be Charles Freeland, Richard Potts, Willie Hudson, Glenn Arnold, Dwight Parks, Gerald Parks and Bernard Huling. Nieces will serve as active flower ladies. The cortege will assemble at the residence at noon on the day of the service.

Mr. Colton was born October 15, 1947 to Arlena and Pierce Colton Sr. His father, Pierce Lee Colton Sr. and brother, Pierce Lee Colton Jr. preceded him in death.

Mr. Colton was educated in the Coweta County School System, graduating with the Class of 1967 at Central High School. He married his high school sweetheart Mary McKeever and they had four children.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Colton; a loving and devoted mother and friend Mrs. Arlena Colton; four children, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Colton (Connie), Ms. Tonijia Teel (NeeNee), Mr. John Alvin Colton Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Colton (Trina); nine grandchildren, Javonte', Frederick, Ardacious, Va'leecia, Jaquisha, Alexander, Amiracle, Johnathan, Courtney, Quanshila, all of Atlanta, Ga.; eight brothers and sisters, Mr. Clifford Colton, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Colton (Joyce), Mr. and Mrs. Donald Colton (Joyce), Mr. and Mrs. Willie Colton (Rosemary), Mr and Mrs. Bennie Towns (Betty), Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Colton (Yolanda) all of Newnan, Ga., Ms. Wyvonia Rasool of Jonesboro, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hameen (Shaidah) of Birmingham, Ala.; father-in-law, John Alvin McKeever; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Velma Johnson, Mrs. Vivian Colton, Mrs. Evelyn Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Moreland (Lois), and Mr. and Mrs. John Alvin Mckeever (Tommie), several nieces, nephews and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mr. Fred Couch, 78, of Hogansville, Ga., died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Fairburn Healthcare Center.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Jimmie L. Willis and the Rev. Bobby Robinson will officiate and burial will be in Grantville Cemetery.

Mr. Couch was born August 30, 1922, in Fayette County, son of the late Marion and Effie Hubbard Couch, and grandson of the late John Andrew and Marietta Cannon Couch and the late Tommy and Lizzie Moore Hubbard. An Army veteran of World War Two, he had lived in Hogansville since 1950 and was a retired wholesale distributor. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantville and was a Mason. Mr. Couch was preceded in death by his wife, Macie Stevens Couch and his step-daughter, Annette Miles.

Surviving are three sisters, Fannie Robinson of LaGrange, Lois and Jake Rawlins of Newnan, and Pauline and Ralph Taylor of Moreland; four brothers, Luther Couch of Newnan, Marvin and Edna Couch, J. D. and Betty Couch, all of Grantville, and Howard Couch of Brooksville, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Barbara B. Green
Mrs. Barbara B. Green, owner of The Historic Green Manor Restaurant, 6400 Westbrook Street, Union City, Ga., died of lung cancer Friday, May 25, 2001.

Mrs. Green and her husband, A. J. Green, past mayor of the City of Fairburn, turned his family home into the restaurant in 1990. It quickly became a southside tradition for local dining, weddings and corporate events.

She was born in Russellville, Ala., November 5, 1936. She was educated at Berry College in Rome, Ga. and taught school in the Coosa Valley District. Her career changed courses when she became director of Social Services at Floyd County Medical Center in Rome. She held this position for 20 years. She served on the State of Georgia Chiropractic Board under the administration of Governor Joe Frank Harris. She was instrumental in obtaining funding for and starting Coosa Valley Home Health Services and the Rome Dialysis Center. As a mayor's wife she was very active in local, state and national politics. Her positive attitude toward life and her desire to help the less fortunate are two attributes for which she will be long remembered.

Mr. Willie James Smith, 74, of Detroit, Michigan, and formerly of Palmetto, Ga., died Thursday, May 24, 2001.

A funeral will be Saturday, June 2 at 1 p.m. at Harris Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Childers officiating, assisted by the Rev. Melvin Henry, the Rev. Julian Herring and the Rev. Clarence Thrower. Burial will be in Palmetto City Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Smith was born November 2, 1926 in Palmetto, Ga., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther (Annie Sue) Smith. He joined Harris Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age.

He married Mozelle Heath September 9, 1950. He relocated to Detroit, Michigan in 1950 and there he started the Smith's Body Shop.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mozelle Smith of Detroit; daughter, Robinette Smith of Atlanta; brother, Julius Smith (Hattie) of Palmetto, Ga.; three sisters, Nancy Brooks of Detroit Michigan, Frances Smith (Thomas) and Frankie Farley, both of Palmetto; aunt, Frances Abbott, and uncle, Parker Bellamy, both of Cleveland, Ohio; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Harold Lee Taylor
Mr. Harold Lee Taylor, 62, of Eureka Terrace, Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Emory University Hospital of pneumonia following an 11-year battle with kidney disease.

A funeral will be Saturday, June 2 at noon at First Iconium Baptist Church, 542 Moreland Avenue, Atlanta, Ga. Rev. Timothy McDonald III will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Chauncey Newsome, Rev. Gina Smith, Rev. Richard Davis and Rev. Gregory Taylor. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery in Fairburn, Ga. The cortege will assemble at the residence on Saturday at 10:15 a.m.

Flower attendants will be Ms. Lakala Abrams, Ms. Jannene Connally, Mrs. Verneda Dowdell, Ms. Avionne Fortner, Mrs. Martha Guy, Mrs. Denise Henry, Mrs. Annie Pearl Jenkins, Mrs. Hattie Mary Johnson, Mrs. Johnnie Jones, Mrs. Alice Malcolm, Mrs. Rhonda Peterson, Mrs. Sharon Riviere, Mrs. Audrey Satterwhite, Mrs. Emma Usher and Mrs. Janette Walton. Pallbearers will be Mr. Kenneth Davie, Mrs. Winston Dowdell, Mr. Willie Guy, Mr. Leroy Johnson, Mr. James Jones and Mr. Sidney Nettles. Members of the Les Bons Hommes Social and Civic Club will be honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Taylor was born December 31, 1938 in Macon, Ga. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Grover Cleaveland Taylor. He was the youngest of five children. His early spiritual life was centered at Antioch Baptist Church in Macon. As an adult he was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Newnan, where he served as a trustee and the director and musician of the Senior Choir. In 1994 he joined First Iconium Baptist Church in Atlanta, where he sang in the First Iconium Gospel Ensemble for a time.

Harold Taylor was always a sharp, bright student. He had a brilliant mind and excelled in all of his educational and professional pursuits. He graduated from Ballard-Hudson High School in Macon, Ga. in 1956. He went on to receive a bachelor of science degree in business education from Fort Valley State College in 1960, a master's of science degree in education from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1967, and a specialist in business education degree from West Georgia College in Carrollton in 1980. His parents, Grover Taylor and Willie Austin Taylor, two sisters, Irene Taylor Brown and Ethel Taylor Frulkner, and a brother, British Tharpe, preceded him in death.

His love of education manifested itself into a 32-year career in education. He retired from teaching in 1993. He also was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1961 to 1963. During his military service he served as a medic and a member of the Army Chorus, where he utilized his beautiful singing voice. In 1968 he met his future wife, the former Carolyn Abrams, a teacher whom he worked with at Central High School in Newnan. The couple married June 7, 1969 and would have celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary next week. They had daughters Loren Audrey in 1971 and Chanda Nicole in 1972.

Other survivors include brother, James and sister-in-law Lelia Taylor, of Fort Valley; sister, Lluise Cummings of Warner Robins; a number of devoted nephews and nieces, incluidng Ann Faulkner Hubbard, with whom he shared a special relationship, and Monica and Jennifer Taylor, who faithfully visited and supported "Uncle Harold" during his numerous hospital confinements; close family friends Anthony and Audrey Satterwhite and their children and Harold's godchildren Antoinette, Audra and Maurice; and a special family friend, Avionne Fortner. He was also a member of the Les Bons Hommes Civic and Social Club of Newnan for nearly three decades.
