Mrs. Aretha Almond
Mrs. Aretha Almond of Country Road, Newnan, passed at her residence on July 26, 2001.

Mrs. Almond was born on Feb. 17, 1926, in Newnan, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gibson. She joined Wesley Chapel A. M. E. Church at an early age where she served on the usher board until her health failed.

She was united in marriage to Willard Almond, Sr. Her husband and a son, Willard Almond Jr., who preceded her in death.

The funeral service will be held today (July 31) at Wesley Chapel A. M. E. Church, with Rev. Melvin Henry, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. R. W. Sutton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Petty, Jarvis Warner Jr., David Parker, Terrance Elder, Antione Reid and Jarvis Warner Sr. Nieces will serve as flower ladies.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law: Geneva Almond; grandchildren, Ms. Crystal "Lil" Burks, Roderick Jerome "Rod" Almond and Patrick Bernard "Nard" Almond; great-grandchildren; Joshua and Caleb Almond; sister, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. (Mary) Neely; sister-in-law: Mrs. Nettie Gibson; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Diane Bovingdon
Mrs. Diane Dangerfield Bovingdon of Tyrone, died July 28, 2001, following a long struggle with cancer.

She was born in Provo, Utah, in 1930, raised on Staten Island, N.Y., and moved to Georgia while serving as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. She was married to retired Eastern pilot, James W. Bovingdon, for more than 47 years and raised three children, James H. Bovingdon, Michael W. Bovingdon, and Lynne Bovingdon Medlock.

A funeral service will be held Aug. 1 at 1 p.m. at Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church in Riverdale, with Rev. Jeff Halenza officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church, which will distribute them for ovarian cancer research.

Survivors include her father, Dr. Harold Dangerfield; her husband; three children; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grand children.

Mr. Bobby Estep
Mr. Johnny Robert "Bobby" Estep of Welcome-Arnco Road, Newnan, died July 29, 2001 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Estep was born July 22, 1936, in Newnan. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and was a retired employee of the Fort James Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Clyde Shoemake Estep, and a sister, Joyce Estep Lamb.

The funeral service will take place at McKoon Funeral Home today (July 31) at 4 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Bishop; sons, Randy Bishop, Robert Bishop; grandchildren, Pamela Bishop, Josh Estep, Robbie Estep, Haylie Estep; great-grandchild, Kane Bishop.

Mr. Robert Lewis Williams of Atlanta, born February 1, 1947, died Thursday, July 26, 2001.

Mr. Williams formerly lived in Newnan and was a member of New Macedonia Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 30, 2001 at 2 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church, with Reverend Harvey Peeks officiating. Interment will be at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Ga.

Surivors include his wife, Mrs. Patricia P. Williams; three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Angela Russell of Fort Stewart, Ga., Lenore Williams of Ellenwood, Ga. and Stephanie Denise Williams of Morrow, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Tujuana, Takays, Shaquille, Jaqual, Antonio, Tenisha and Deandra; two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Williams, Mr. Charlie Williams; two sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Nell Darden and Mr. and Mrs. Ella Kate Bennett, all of Newnan; and friends and relatives.

Mr. Tommy Hall, 57, of Long Street, Newnan, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Hall was born June 6, 1944 in Newnan. He was the son of the late Tom and Fannie Pearl Hall. He joined Powell Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age under the leadership of the Rev. C. L. Smith.

A funeral will be Saturday, July 28 in the Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. J.P. Geter officiating, assisted by the Rev. Larry Evans, Rev. W. J. Johnson and Rev. R. W. Sutton. Mr. Willie M. "Buck" Powell, 66, of Newnan, died July 25, 2001 at Newnan Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Powell was born August 11, 1934 in Coweta County, the eldest of three sons. He was preceded in death by a son, Willie Curtis "Tott" Robinson and mother, Mrs. Curley Powell.

He was a veteran in the United States Army and a retiree from Royal Molded Products Company.

A funeral will be Saturday, July 28 at 3 p.m. at Powell Chapel United Methodist Church. Pastor Joe P. Geter will officiate. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Mrs. Sprayberry was a retired textile worker and was born October 26, 1913 in Newnan.

Mrs. Crockett was born February 14, 1944 in Newnan. She worked as a care giver. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Adcock of Newnan.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gilbert was born November 12, 1917 in Newnan. She worked in the textile industry.

Ssgt. Daniel Newson Sr. will be remembered at a funeral Saturday, July 28, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel.

The Rev. J. C. Neal will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Dwight Newson and Rev. R. W. Sutton. Burial will be in the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors.

Ssgt. Newson was the son of the late Willie L. and Rosa L. Newson. He was preceded in death by brothers, William E., Alfonia and James F. Newson. He spent all of his childhood years in Newnan. Upon graduation from Newnan High, he entered the United States Air Force where he served for 20 years followed by 12 years in Civil Service. During his early childhood he attended the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church in Newnan. He later became an active member of the Grace Community Church in Citrus Heights, California. He retired and lived in California until his death on July 14, 2001.

Surviving are son, Daniel Newson Jr.; three daughters, Kotrina Newson-Holt, Diana Newson-Daniels, Teresa Newson-Evans; grandson, Jahson Te' Evans; ex-wife, Ms. Lillie Polite; sister, Mrs. Annie M. Gauss; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Junior Newson, all of Plainfield, New Jersey; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Virginia Grace Harrison, 78, of Beaulieu Convalescent Center, Newnan, Ga. died July 20, 2001.

Mrs. Harrison was born September 6, 1922 in Coffee County, Tennessee. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. S. and Willie Shelton England; by her husband, Dale Harrison; and by one sister and two brothers.

Surviving are son, Tim Harrison of Ypsalinti, Michigan; four daughters, Saundra Blevins, Newnan, Ga., Kyeisa Fuller of Rome, Ga., Sheila Olmstead of Newnan and Virginia Ann Shirley of Moreland, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held in the chapel of Gilmore Funeral Home in Manchester, Tennessee, Monday, July 23. Burial was in Old Redden Cemetery outside Manchester. Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mr. Eddie Freeman Allen, 52, of Springer Road, Whitesburg, Ga., died suddenly Monday, July 23, 2001.

He was born March 19, 1949 in Troup County, Ga. to Mary E. Smith Allen Gammon and the late Freeman John Allen. He was a mechanic, a U.S. Army Veteran, and he attended Fellowship Baptist Church.

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Mary E. and Joseph Gammon of Carrollton; a son, Christopher "Chris" Allen of Newnan; two sisters, Mary Jean Collins of McDonough and Patricia Diane Morgan of Newnan; brother, Bobby E. Allen of Clem.

A funeral will be Thursday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at Martin and Hightower West Center Street Chapel with the Rev. Bo Hendon officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Hebert was born October 27, 1960 in Mooresville, North Carolina, daughter of the late Roy Junior and Elizabeth Batchelor Fullam. She had lived in Troup County for the last eight months and was employed by S.O.S. Cleaners in LaGrange.

Mr. Roger Edward Drake, 89, died Monday, July 23, 2001 at the Georgia War Veterans home where he had been a resident for the last 20 years.

A native of the White Oak Community of Coweta County, Mr. Drake had been a farmer, and a disabled veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. He was a lifelong member of the White Oak Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Drake was preceded in death by his parents, Edward W. and Vera Blanche Rogers Drake and his wife Sarah Tarleton Drake.

Surviving are sisters, Evelyn McLendon of Smyrna, Sue Hickey of Atlanta, Mrs. Swane (Dorothy) Forester of Homer, Mrs. David (Janie) Miller of Ponte Vedra, Fla. ; brother, Rev. Charles W. Drake and his wife Bess of Alpharetta; a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Wednesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan with Rev. L. O. Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Lounell Humphreys, 59, of Pine Ridge Road, Franklin, Ga. died Friday, July 20, 2001 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born February 1, 1942 in Newnan, Mrs. Humphreys was a homemaker.

Visitation was Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral was Monday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel. Rev. Paul Stitcher and Dr. Melvin Payne were officiating.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glen Crum, David Abernathy, David Smith, Buddy Hammond, Matt Hammond and Jimmy Mills; Honorary pallbearers were Tony Sullivan and Aaron Massey.

Survivors include husband William C. "Billy" Humphreys of Franklin; and two sisters, Gloria Dominick of Newnan and Charlotte Wallace of Franklin.

Mrs. Lois Irene Long, 83, of Grantville, died a home Saturday, July 21, 2001.

Mrs. Long was born in Fulton County, Ga. to Vane Ulysses Murphy and Elizabeth MacLaren Jacks Murphy on January 20, 1918. Following her retirement, Mrs. Long moved to Newnan in 1967. Mrs. Long was a member of Peachtree City Church of God. She filled her retirement years tending the flowers she loved and collecting antiques.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, William Perry Long Sr.

Surviving are sons, Bobby Cobb III of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Landrum M. Long and William P. Long Jr., both of Grantville; daughter, Svanhilde Paradise of Newnan; granddaughters, Marla P. Brandenburg of Newnan, Allison Rae Cobb and Madison Gail Cobb, both of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; grandsons, Joel M. Paradise of Graham, Alabama, and William R. Cobb IV of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25 in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home in Newnan with Pastor Allan Mathura officiating. Burial will be in the Lone Oak United Methodist Church cemetery in Grantville.

Mrs. Emma Lou Webb, 82, of U.S. Highway 29 South, Moreland, Ga., died Sunday, July 22, 2001 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Webb was born September 25, 1918 in Coweta County. She was a homemaker and member of Moreland First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elisha C. Carden Sr. and Inez Brock Carden and her husband, John A. Webb and a son Johnny Webb.

A funeral will be held at graveside in Southview Cemetery Tuesday, July 24 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jerry Eley will officiate.

Mrs. Gladys Cole Cross, 80, of Grantville, did Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Cross was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Grantville to the late William Henry Cole and Mary Manola Moore Cole. A life-long resident of Coweta County, Mrs. Cross retired from Coweta General Hospital and was a member of First Baptist Church of Grantville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cross.

A funeral will be held Monday, July 23, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Revs. Willard Dean and Jimmie L. Willis will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol Cross of Grantville, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bobby Ray Davis, 67, of Newnan, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Davis lived in Newnan all his life. After he retired from James Rivers Packing Corporation, Mr. Davis spent most of his time hunting and fishing, and working in his yard. He was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his father, William Davis, his stepfather, Thomas "Red" Leach, and his brother, William A. Davis, Jr.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 23, 2001, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, with Pastor L.O. Thompson officiating.

Mrs. Elizabeth Lounell Humphreys, 59, of Franklin, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Humphreys was born Feb. 1, 1942, in Newnan. She was a homemaker.

A funeral will be held Monday, July 23, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Stitcher and Dr. Melvin Payne will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Glen Crum, David Abernathy, David Smith, Buddy Hammond, Matt Hammond, and Jimmy Mills. Honorary pallbearer will be Aaron Massey.

Surviving are her husband, William "Billy" Humphreys of Franklin; and sisters Gloria Dominick of Newnan and Charlotte Wallace of Franklin.

Miss Aaliyah Tiara Pace
Miss Aaliyah Tiara Pace died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Egleston Children's Hospital.

Miss Pace was a happy and loving child who always had a smile on her face and blessed all who met her loving spirit and ways. She attended Jefferson Parkway Elementary School.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Sellers-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. John Farmer will officiate, assisted by the Rev. T.J. Hanner. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Rod Gray, Jonathan Geter, Derek Stephens, Eric Pender, Chris Braswell, and Marcillia Kendall. Serving as flower girls will be Malaika Smith, Takeisha Beasley, Hope Pender, Lisa Partridge, Tamika Derring, Ursula Hill, Thomaesa Brundage, Tanika Dawson, Caressa Young, Tamka Young, Tamika Sims, and Jasmine Dixon.

Surviving are her parents, Keisha Latrell Pace and James Perez Cleveland; sister, Quaneshia Jennings; grandparents, Willie and Michelle Arnold, Randall Melvin Pace, and James Cleveland; great-grandmother Dorothy White; great-grandparents Richard M. and Christine Pace and Mary Kate Bewster; aunts Khadija Renique, Charmian, Dion, Christi, and Nicole Pace, and Akosua Rossser; aunt Donna Cleveland; uncles Marllas Barber and Curtis White; great-aunts and uncles Robert Hardaway, Carlton Brewster, Richard Pace, Cecelia Braswell, Myra Partridge, Martha Brewster, and Vickie Herring; and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Harold Edward Carter
Mr. Harold Edward Carter, 59, of Grantville died Wednesday, July 18, 2001.

Born Aug. 1, 1942, Mr. Carter was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where he participated in Sunday School, Youth Fellowship and church services. He was also a member of The Grantville Masonic Lodge #264 F. & A.M.

Residing in Atlanta for many years, Mr.Carter retired from the Ford Motor Company after 31 years of service and moved back to Grantville to help care for his mother, Pauline Carter, who preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 23, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at John Wesley United Methodist Church. Dr. James M. Shopshire Sr., Reverend Walter McMullen, Dr. Thomas Hines, Reverend Ray Robertson and Reverend Joe P. Geter will officiate.

Interment will be at the Grantville city cemetery.

Pallbearers include John Wesley U.M. church men, members of the masonic lodge and friends.

Survivors include two children, Anita Yolonda and Darrell LaMont Carter; two grandchildren, Antavous and Audryanna Carter; a sister, Mary C. Elder; a nephew, Reginald Gerald Elder; two cousins, Trellis and Ahna Azckery; an ex-wife, Ann Carter; friend, Brenda Maddox; and many cousins and friends.

Mr. Bobby Ray Davis
Mr. Bobby Ray Davis, 67, of Newnan died at his home Friday, July 20, 2001. Mr. Davis lived and worked all his life in Newnan.

After his retirement from James Rivers Packing Corporation, he spent most of his time hunting and fishing and attending his yard. He was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his father, Mr. William Davis; his stepfather, Mr. Thomas Leach; and his brother, Mr. William A. Davis Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Ann Davis; a son, Billy Ray and Dondra Davis; a daughter, Deborah Mae Hudson, a mother, Jessie Mae Leach; four step-sons Curtis Morris, Ronnie McDaniel, Billy McDaniel and Tommy McDaniel; three step-daughters, Patricia Nevarez, Barbara Mealer and Linda Lesh; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 27 Clark Street, Newnan, GA. 30263.

Mrs. Nellie B. Gray, 87, of 1812 Pleasant Hill Road, Carrollton, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 at her residence.

She was born May 19, 1914 in Coweta County to the late Ulyss Bone and Lessie Mae Payton Bone.

She retired from Carroll Mills and was a member of Mt. Carmel First Congregational Methodist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tyre C. Gray; three sons, Charles Colon Gray, Billy David Gray and Larry Clinton Gray.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Gray Batchelor and Barbara Ann Rosales; three daughters-in-law, Barbara Elaine Gray, Mary Gray Jordan and Delores Gray; a sister, Pauline Smith; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 p.m. from Martin & Hightower West Center Street Chapel, with Reverend Ralph Nelson and Reverend Robert Hicks officiating.

Music will be rendered by Cathy Roberts.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the Carroll County Hospice Care.
