Mrs. Ella Gay Parks MacNabb, 86, of Newnan, died August 28, 2001 at her home.
Mrs. MacNabb was born on March 28, 1915 in the home where she died, one of three children of the late Joseph William Parks and the late Rubie Lovejoy Parks, both of Newnan.
Mrs. MacNabb graduated from Newnan High School and attended the University of Georgia, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She was employed at The Newnan Times-Herald for more than 30 years, serving as bookkeeper and as editor of the feature page "Today."
Mrs. MacNabb, who was the granddaughter of a circuit-riding Methodist minister, was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Newnan. Her name was placed on the cradle roll of the church on the date of her birth. For many years she served as treasurer of the church and as a teacher of Sunday School.
A funeral will be Friday, August 31 at 11 a.m. at graveside in the older section of Oak Hill Cemetery (old Presbyterian cemetery) in Newnan, with the Reverend Gary Parrish officiating. Family pallbearers include Dr. Malcolm H. Cole Jr., W. Parks Cole, John L. Cole, H. Pickens Parks, Dr. Joseph W. Parks III, Dr. Boyd L. Parks, John W. Spears and James M. Kelley.

Mrs. Sara Ellen Ritchie
Mrs. Sara Ellen Ritchie, 72, of Fond du Lac, WI, died at her home August 27, 2001 following an 18-month battle with cancer.
She was born Sara Ellen Young on June 20, 1929 in Newnan, Ga. She graduated from Newnan High School in Newnan in 1945 and attended the University of Georgia from 1946 to 50. She began teaching elementary school in 1953-54 in Coweta County. In 1971 she graduated with a B.S. in education from Iowa State University and began teaching in Nevada, Iowa. She received a Master's Degree in Education Administration in 1978 and began a new career as an elementary school principal at Lincoln Elementary School in Newton, Iowa. She moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where she served as principal at Chegwin Elementary School from 1984 until her retirement in 1977. She was named Principal of the Year in 1985. After retirement from the Fond du Lac School District she supervised student teachers at Marian College until last year.
She was an active promoter of public education and childhood reading. She participated in many service and professional organizations including the Red Cross, Soroptomists, American Association of University Women, Phi Delta Kappa, International Reading Association, Delta Kappa Gamma International Society, Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association, and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
She is survived by four sons and their spouses, Bruce and Jennifer Ritchie of Riverside Iowa, Mark Ritchie and Nancy Gaschott of Minneapolis, MN, Neil Ritchie and Jean Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, and David Ritchie and Anne Matthews of New York City; sisters, Jacqulyn (Jackie) Beard of Villa Rica, Georgia, and Dell Young Felton of Columbus, Ga.; four nieces, two nephews and two grandchildren, Edward and Joanna Ritchie, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra Thomas and Curtis Rogers young, her sister Florrie Young Melton and a granddaughter Rachel Ritchie.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Zacherl funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, WI.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until the time of the service.

Mr. Hubert Hendricks, 70, of Franklin, Ga., died Aug. 25, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Hendricks was born in Heard County, Ga., on March 2, 1931, to the late Dewey Hendricks and Gladys Yarborough Hendricks. He was retired from the textile industry, and was a faithful member of the Bethel Christian Church. He was a loving husband and father. Mr. Hendricks was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Betty Jean Blanks.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Christian Church in the Glenn Community of Heard County with the Revs. Daryl Scott and Kenneth Johnson officiating. Mr. Henry Allen, long time friend of Mr. Hendricks, offered a brief eulogy. Debbie Pike and Pat Lipham provided music. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers were Brian Putzek, Sonny Lindenmuth, Ted Brown, Justin Brown, Leeland Chandler and Jim Bishop.
Mr. Hendricks is survived by his wife, Winnie Fred Barnes Hendricks; one daughter, Birtha Powell; two sons, Bobby and Jonny Hendricks; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, all of Franklin, Ga.; two brothers, Curtis Hendricks of Franklin, Ga., and Hollis Hendricks of Carrollton, Ga.

Mrs. Velma Lucille Parris, 83, of Doraville, died Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at Tucker Nursing Home.
Mrs. Parris was born to John T. Wilson and Fannie P. Wilson on April 29, 1918. She married Ernest Albert Parris in Atlanta in 1933.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Shannon officiating. Burial will follow at College Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the parlor of Jones Funeral Home.

Mr. Harvey Alton Norton, 76, of Harris Road, Newnan, died Monday, August 27, 2001 at Dogwood Health & Rehab in Fairburn.
He was born April 29, 1925 in Douglas County, Ga. to the late John Conner Norton and Mattie Idora Willis Norton. He retired from Bonnell Company and was a member of Happy Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy & Bobby Anderson and Sarah & Pete Pope, all of Newnan, and Marie and Paul Charette of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Mae Johnson of Carrollton; one brother, Ralph Norton of Douglasville; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tuttle was born January 22, 1914 in Charlotte, North Carolina and was an engineer.

Mrs. Julia Bowers, 83, of Lundy Street, Newnan, died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at her residence.
Mrs. Bowers was born June 28, 1918 in Coweta County. She was the widow of Arnold Bowers, a 35-year educator in the Coweta County School System, and they were married for 42 years. She worked as a bookkeeper for the county school system, retiring after 25 years. She was a member of the "Never Grow Old Club," an AARP member, member of "Senior Friends," and member of the Newnan Presbyterian Church for 49 years.
The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Tuesday, Aug. 28 from 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Jessie Attaway Ellington, 92, of Grantville, died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at Franklin Healthcare Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Coweta County and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grantville. She was retired from Grantville Mills and was the wife of the late Roy L. Ellington.

Mr. Lonnie Curtis Williamson, 79, of Rolling Hills Estate, Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Emory University Hospital.
Mr. Williamson was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Heard County, Ga. He served in the Army in World War II and was retired from Royal Molded Products. He was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Laura Gwen Roberto, 63, of Franklin, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Roberto was born to Claude Thorton Lloyd and Rosa Geneva Tatum Lloyd in Ware County, Ga., on Sept. 14, 1937. Mrs. Roberto demonstrated her artistic ability in interior design and handmade baskets, and was an avid golfer and bowler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Frank Ralph Roberto.

Mrs. Opal Lee Johnson Collier of Atlanta died on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at South Fulton Medical Center Hospital in East Point, Ga.
Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Meriwether County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester (Arie) Johnson. She joined the Piney Grove Baptist Church in Haralson, Ga. Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Horace Collier, her son, Mr. Johnny L. Brittin, two sisters and one brother.

She was employed with Robinson-Humphrey Financial Company and was an active member of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fairburn, Ga. At St. John she served on the Steward Board and was a member of several choirs -- the Prophetic Voices of Praise, the Women's Ensemble and the Mass Choir. She was also a member of the Word of Life Chorale and served as the Choir's Business Manager. During her time at St. John, she was part of the Singles' Ministry and the Women's Ministry. For several years she gave tremendous leadership as chairperson for Women's Day. Ms. Bolton was honored as Lay Person of the Year.
Kim Bolton was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was licensed to preach through the Atlanta North Georgia Conference-South Atlanta District of the A.M.E. Church Sixth District.
Surviving are her son, Ashford Dean Bolton; parents, Clinton S. and Eula M. Bolton Sr.; brother, Captain Clinton S. Bolton Jr. (LaWanda M.); nephew, Clinton S. Bolton III; niece, Mckenzie C. Bolton; many other relatives and friends.

Mr. William Clifford "Doc" Ferrell
Mr. William Clifford "Doc" Ferrell, 86, of Sprayberry Road, Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, August 19, 2001 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Mr. Ferrell was born March 23, 1915 in Coweta County, Georgia, son of the late William C. and Lomie Garner Ferrell. He was retired from the former Weddington Chevrolet as parts manager. A veteran, he served in the Army in World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church and a 50-year member of Coweta Lodge #60 Free and Accepted Masons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joel Upshaw.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 7-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

Mr. Franklin Singleton of Peachtree City died August 18, 2001.
Surviving are daughters, Ms. Shelley Singleton and Ms. Lauren Singleton, both of Sharpsburg; along with their mother, Mrs. Holly Moulder, also of Sharpsburg; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Singleton Davis, Peachtree City; father, Mr. Wendell Lewis Singleton, Peachtree City; sister, Mrs. Rhonda Singleton Kuhn, Lovejoy; long-time companion, Ms. Carol Hays, Fayetteville; two nephews.

Miss Etta Mae Zimmerman
Miss Etta Mae Zimmerman, 94, of Marshallville, and a former resident of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, August 19, 2001 at the Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 21 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Danny Sweet will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
Miss Zimmerman was born September 26, 1906 in Cleburne County, Alabama, daughter of the late John Morgan Zimmerman and the late Sara Barker Zimmerman. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Hogansville, and retired from Uniroyal, Inc. after more than 40 years of service. She was an original organizer of the East Newnan Association Reunion.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Wanda and Jake Bartlett of Marshallville, with whom she had lived for the past five years.
Flowers will be accepted, or contributions in memory of Miss Zimmerman may be made to St. James United Methodist Church.

Miss Alexandria "Lexie" Shoemake
Miss Alexandria Gabrielle Shoemake, 1 year and 9 months, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.
Lexie, as she was known to her family, was born with Leigh's Disease. During her short life, she was a joy to all who were privileged enough to be around her. She was always laughing and smiling and touching people's hearts, and will be missed very much. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jerry Daniel.
A funeral was held Sunday, Aug. 19. 2001, at Jones Funeral Home. The Rev. David Clay officiated, and burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
