Mrs. Winnie Lenore Thomaston
Mrs. Winnie Lenore Kendrick Thomaston, 78, of Franklin, died at her home Friday after many years of declining health.
Mrs. Thomaston was born June 11, 1923, the daughter of Will Kendrick and Willie Mae Bradley Kendrick. She was a housewife, mother and member of the Centralhatchee Baptist Church.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today from the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin with the Revs. Jimmy Henry and Wayne Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverdale Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs Thomaston will lie in state at the funeral home until the funeral time.
Survivors are two daughters, Sue Presley of Franklin and Sarah Sample of Fayetteville; two sons, Nathan Thomaston of Franklin and Hudson Thomaston of Carrollton; one sister, Virginia Thrower of Carrollton; one brother, Albert Kendrick of Franklin; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Velma Strickland Eanes, 91, of Bailey Drive, Newnan, died Friday, September 28, 2001 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.
Mrs. Eanes was born June 28, 1910 in Heard County, Georgia. She was a retired textile worker and member of Trinity Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 29 between 7 and 9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gertrude R. Underwood, 89, of Hogansville, died Thursday, September 27, 2001 at her home.
A funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Andrew Overby will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange.
Mrs. Underwood was born Dec. 24, 1911 in Lanett, Ala., daughter of the late Roy and Nettie Cane Wingett. A resident of Troup county most of her life, she had lived in Hogansville the past 25 years, was a member of the Baptist Church, and retired from the Dixie Division of West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company.
Surviving are husband, Sager A. Mr. Thomas Howard Spivey
Mr. Thomas Howard Spivey, 81, of Newnan, died at his home Tuesday, September 25, 2001 after an extended illness.
Mr. Spivey was born to Jack and Janie Spivey in Coweta County where he spent most of his life. He was a retired supervisor from Beavers Packing Company and a long-time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
As a veteran of World War II, Mr. Spivey served more than three years in the European Theatre under General George S. Patton, Third Army, Fifth Infantry Division as a heavy machine gun operator. He received several medals for exemplary service during the Normandy invasion and campaigns in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederacy, an avid fisherman, farmer and carpenter.
Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Spivey.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Helen Whitley Spivey of Newnan; two sons, Danny Spivey and Gary and wife Betty Spivey, both of Newnan; daughter, Nancy Spivey Goddard and husband Louis of Newnan; sister, Imogene Taylor of Cleveland, Ga.; four grandchildren, Matt Goddard, T. J. The Rev. Louie Olds, 76, of Roanoke, Alabama, died Wednesday, September 26, 2001 at his home following a short illness.
A Randolph County resident since 1966, Rev. Olds was a Barbour County native, born May 4, 1925, son of Robert Jackson and Mary Mamie Dykes Olds. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Rev. Olds was a retired minister and had served as pastor of these Randolph County Churches: Rock Mills First Baptist, Rocky Branch Baptist, Union Baptist and Fellowship Baptist.
A funeral will be Friday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home chapel in Roanoke, Ala., with Revs. Wendell Rush, Frank Sledge and Lendon Fields officiating.
Graveside services will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Barbour County beginning at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Bobby Hines officiating.

Mr. Bob Gerald Carlisle, 72, of Griffin and formerly of DeKalb County, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Spalding County Hospital.
Mr. Carlisle was born Sept. 16, 1929, in Atlanta, to the late Claude Daniel Carlisle, Sr., and Mary Ethel Carlisle. He served in the U.S. Navy and was an automobile glass mechanic prior to his retirement. Mr. Carlisle was an avid fly fisherman and radio-control airplane enthusiast. He was a member of Bouldercrest Baptist Church and a 47 year member of of Panthersville Masonic Lodge 543, F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude Daniel Carlisle, Jr., Charles Luther Carlisle, and John Edward Carlisle; and mother-in-law Sara Ann Evans.

Born Feb. 25, 1930 to the late Charlie Yarber and Luckey Smith Faison, Mr. Faison graduated from the adult class in Coweta County and joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. R.L. McKibbens, serving on the usher board until his health failed. He retired from the William L. Bonnell Company after 34 years of service as a supervisor.
Mr. Faison and Mattie Graddic were married on Oct. 28, 1961. He was a loving and devoted husband, and loved by all who knew him.
Survivors are wife, Mattie G. Mr. Raldolph "R.R." Word, 80, of 1810 Hayes Mill Road, Carrollton, Ga., died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at his residence.
He was born September 15, 1921 to the late Marion "Luther" Word and Elizabeth Smith Word. He was an Army veteran, having served in World War II, and was a member of Stripling Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was service manager for Head Ford Motor Company in Carrollton, Newnan Motor Company, and Richard Haney Ford, before opening his company which was West Georgia Auto Repair. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Word and J. R. Word; and a sister, Hazel Williamson.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Stanley Pyron of Carrollton, Pat and Bob Zadareky of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Melvenia and Larry White of Douglasville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tommy and Sherry Word of Franklin and Calvin Word of Carrollton; sister, Minnie Lee Jackson of Carrollton; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mr. James Daniel Gilbert
Mr. James Daniel Gilbert, 89, of Welcome Road, Newnan, died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Gilbert was born January 18, 1912 in Georgia. He was retired from Lockheed and was a veteran of the United States armed forces.
The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home Thursday, Sept. 20 from 6-8 p.m.
A funeral will be at graveside in Georgia Memorial Park Friday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. The Rev. J. C. Cook will officiate.
Surviving are three sisters; nieces and nephews; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Bill Linch
Mr. Bill Linch, 91, of Morrow, Ga., died Thursday, September 20, 2001, at his residence.
A native of Coweta County, Ga., he was the son of the late David Chapman and Mary Willie Ingram Linch. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morrow, Lakewood Lodge #10 F&AM, and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. His wife, Lillie Todd Linch, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his sisters, Carrie Summers of Lafayette, Ga., Mary Summers of Senoia, Ga., Ettie Freeman of Duluth, Ga., Martha Pennington of Duluth, Ga.; and a brother, John Linch of Turin, Ga.
A funeral will be Friday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Partridge officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the service hour.

Mrs. Ruth Porter Merrill
Mrs. Ruth Porter Merrill, 91, of Campbellton Road, Atlanta, formerly of Newnan, died September 15, 2001, at Southwest Christian Hospice following an extended illness.
She was born January 5, 1910 in Carroll County, Ga., daughter of the late Mr. James Madison Porter and the late Mrs. Kate Masden Porter. She was a member of the Owl Rock United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class and was a member and Past President of the Women's Society of Christian Service.
She was a homemaker and was a former owner at the "Green Door Cafe" in Heard County. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Merrill; daughter, Carol Merrill Smith; sisters, Sara Chap and Sue Britt; and brothers, Lamon G. Porter, James Aubrey Porter and Fred M. Porter.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Merrill and Ponder A. Hunt of Atlanta and Donna Merrill and Thomas W. Ferebee Jr. of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Johnnie P. Smith of Murfreesboro, TN, Bessie P. Williamson of Carrollton, Vivian P. and Frank White of Carrollton, and Martha P. Arrington of Macon; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil W. "Pat" and Cleo Porter of Conyers; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be Friday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at Owl Rock United Methodist Church on Campbellton Road in Atlanta with the Rev. Susan Heafield and Rev. Thomas J. Tarpley Jr. officiating.
The remains will be placed in state from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Cantralhatchee Baptist Cemetery in Heard County.

Mr. Carl Brown Newman
Mr. Carl Brown Newman, 79, of Franklin, Ga., died September 19, 2001 at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Newman was born May 11, 1922 to the late Roger Newman and Lucy Smith Newman in Heard County, Ga. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ben Newman.
He was a retired saw operator with the Bonnell manufacturing company in Newnan. Mr. Newman faithfully served his country in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a Christian by faith.
A funeral will be Friday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Ga.
The family was receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m.
Burial will be in Elam Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Ed Wyatt will officiate.

Mr. Teddy Leo Walker of Newnan died September 19, 2001.

Surviving are mother, Mrs. Roberta Walker; brother, Darry Walker Sr.; sisters, Ms. Dean Hanvey, Ms. Vesta Martinez, Ms. Dorothy Zwayyed, Ms. Lisa Plunkett, Ms. Tina Addison; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Edward Lee Cammon Jr., 73, a resident of Montgomery, Ala., died Monday, September 17, 2001.
Mr. Cammon retired from the United States Air Force with 26 years of service. He also taught electrical engineering at Trenholm State Technical College.
A funeral will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Noel Walker officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Surviving are five children, Barry M. (Tonya) Cammon of Lookout Mountain, TN, Sandy (Mark) Powell of Montgomery, Ala., Lori Melissa (Phillip) Murrell of Hope Hull, Ala., Judy (John) Buker of Hillsdale, IN, and Linda Cammon of Montgomery, Ala.; 12 grandchildren, Jenifer C. Wood, Lyle and Mary-Margaret Cammon, Adam, Britt and Wendy Powell, Ben, Luke and Sam Collie, John Wayne, Richard and Bradley Buker and seven great-grandchildren.
