Mrs. Margaret Rebel
Mrs. Margaret Rebel, 94, of Newnan, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at Southland Nursing Home in Peachtree City, Ga.

Mrs. Rebel was born to Matias and Margareta Maurer in Brukenau, Romania. After coming to America, she married her late husband, Mr. Anton Rebel in New York in 1930. She lived most of her adult life in Jackson, New Jersey where she was a member of Saint Mary's of the Lake Roman Catholic Church and an active member of the Mannechor German Club in Lakewood, New Jersey. Mrs. Rebel was a very active participant of life as she worked for the Jackson School System, kept her home, was an excellent seamstress and loved to garden and grow flowers. Her failing health caused her to move to Newnan, Ga. in 1999 to be with her family.

Her husband, Mr. Anton Rebel and a son, Mr. Frederick Rebel, preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Mr. Frank A. Rebel of Newnan.

A funeral will be at D'Elia Funeral Home in Lakewood, New Jersey, Friday, Sept. 21. Burial will be in Saint Mary's Of The Lake Cemetery in Lakewood, New Jersey. A register book will be at Jones Funeral Home in Newnan for her local friends who wish to pay their respects.

Mrs. Daisy Snider Westbrooks of Forest Park, Ga. died September 16, 2001 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Ga.

A homemaker, Mrs. Westbrooks was of the Baptist Faith.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at Parkway Garden Chapel in Forest Park, Ga. with the Rev. Jerry Eley and Lance Westbrooks officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Garden of Memories in Decatur, Ga.

The family was receiving friends at visitation Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Parkway Garden Chapel funeral home in Forest Park, Ga.

Surviving are daughters Betty Jones of Forest Park, Ga. and Sherry Collier of Moreland, Ga.; sons, Gene Westbrooks of Decatur, Ga. and Jerry Westbrooks of Dunwoody, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Calhoun Crowe, 82, of Stockbridge, Ga., died Friday, September 14, 2001 at Henry General Hospital in Stockbridge.

A funeral was Monday, Sept. 17, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan. The Rev. Carl Calhoun, Rev. Terry Calhoun, Mr. Michael Allen Mooney and Henry Calhoun officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Crowe was born in Coweta County, Ga. May 14, 1919, to Mr. Henry "Coot" Calhoun and Mrs. Dollie Webb Calhoun. She was retired from housekeeping at Georgia Baptist Hospital and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was pre-deceased by a son, James Huska; and a brother, the Rev. Eugene Calhoun.

Surviving are children, Ann Studdard of Pasadena, Texas, Elizabeth Mooney of Morrow, Ga., Barbara Brantley of Douglasville, Ga., Horace Huska of Lithia Springs, Ga., Frankie Huska of Riverdale, Ga. and Dena Adams of McDonough, Ga.; sisters, Katherine Knott and Sara Webb of Newnan; brothers, the Rev. Carl Calhoun of Newnan and Rev. Henry Calhoun Jr. of Senoia; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Amos Houston Sr., 63, of Belk Road, Newnan, died Friday, September 14, 2001 at Decatur Hospital in Decatur, Ga.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. at St. Smyrna Baptist Church on Smokey Road, Newnan, with the Rev. J. W. Russell Jr., pastor, eulogist, Rev. Charles Smith, officiating, assisted by Rev. Ed Geter, Rev. Willie Lee Geter and Minister Amos Houston Jr. Burial will be in the Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert James Cleveland Jr., Alvin Houston, Glenell Johnson, Reginald Pless, C. B. White. Flower ladies will be Lillie Mae Geter, Kathy Hutchinson, Gladys Prather, Carrie Pritchett, Catherine Woods. The family will assemble at the residence at noon.

Mr. Houston was born to the late Mr. Ned and Sally Fannie Houston Sept. 23, 1937. He was married to Alice Mae Braswell for 44 years. He was an active member of the St. Smyrna Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years. Also he was a part of the Gospel singing group The Christian Travelers for many years, and was a Gospel radio D.J. for more than 20 years. He was a certified licensed electrician and was involved in many organizations in Coweta County. He retired in 1999 from the William L Bonnell Company after 38 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Mae Houston; four children, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Houston Jr. (Elaine), Marvin Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Thomas (Tootsie/Van) and Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Prather (Elaine); three grandchildren, Kimberly S. Houston, Aishah V. Prather and Michael Labron Thomas; brothers, Deacon J. C. Houston, Mr. and Mrs. James B. Mrs. Opal Genertis Wright Lutz, 65, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sept. 8, 2001.

A funeral was Monday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at the New Springs Methodist Church in the Roosterville Community of Heard County with the Reverends Evans Radford, Larry McDaniel and Steve Murphy officiating. Music was provided by Lana, Brittney, Cecilie and Emily Murphy, Dana Cats, and Kendall Cook. Pallbearers were Thomas Levens, Tillman Levens, Keith Levens, Rodney Evans, Jeff Evans, Junior Murphy and Tharan Levens. Burial was in the church cemtery.

Mrs. Lutz was born in Heard County Febuary 11, 1936 to the late Estey Toombs Wright and Ollie Lee Yates Wright. She was also preceded in death by her husband Henry Lutz. She was a retired C&A Nursing Assistant, and a member of the New Springs Southern Congregational Methodist Church.

Survivors innclude one daughter, Sheila Cruse of Washington State; two sons, Eddie and Mark Reaves both of Wetumpka, Ala.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mozelle Levens of Franklin, Ga., and Clara Evans of West Point, Ga.; brother, Hollis Wright of Franklin, Ga.

Mrs. Oneida Lucinda Shaner, 91, of Fayetteville, Ga., died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at LaFayette Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fayetteville.

Mrs. Shaner was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Leonard Lester Shaner, and sons, Carl Hammond and Byron Hammond. She is survived by her sons, Leonard and Sharon Shaner, Richard and Zelma Hammond; sisters, Ethel and Charles Dee, Muriel Main, June Main, Josephine Herdelhorst; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. VanPatten was born November 16, 1917 in Alabama. She was a homemaker.

Mr. Gene Curtis, 61, of Grantville, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Curtis was born June 30, 1940, Montgomery County, Ky., to the late James Manual Curtis and Allean Berryman Curtis. Mr. Curtis was a retired cabinetmaker and a member of Open Door Baptist Baptist Church in Senoia.

A funeral will be held will be held Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Open Door Baptist Church in Senoia. The Rev. Henry Calhoun will officiate, and burial will be in the Calvary Baptist Church cemetery in Raymond. Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Hudson (honorary), Mike Parker, Dennis Mitchell, Donny Hudson, Steve Hudson, Chris Crofts, and Mike Calhoun.

Mrs. Kate Fuller, 104, of Newnan, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Fuller was born Aug. 10, 1897, in Newnan. She was a homemaker and a member of Newnan First Baptist Church.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Dr. O. Eugene Tyre will officiate, and burial will be Oak Hill. The family will receive visitors Monday, Sept. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel.

Mr. Gene Curtis, 61, of Grantville, died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Amos Houston of 580 Belk Rd. died Friday, September 14, 2001 at Decatur Hospital in Decatur. He was the husband of Mrs. Alice Houston.

Mrs. Ruth Denney Melear
Mrs. Ruther Denney Melear, 92, of Hogansville, died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, September 17, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with Dr. Edward Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Melear was born July 20, 1909, in Belton, Tx., daughter of the late Hanson Foster Smith and the late Aldora Mobley Smith. A resident of Hogansville for 89 years, she retired from Uniroyal, Inc. after 50 years of service and was a member of the Emmaus Primitive Baptist Church in Hogansville. She was the wife of the late J.W. Denney and the late Melvin T. Melear.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Zola F. Proctor, 90, of Newnan, died Friday, September 14, 2001 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan. Mrs. Proctor was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Born in Carroll County, Mrs. Proctor was a homemaker and was retired from Sargent Mills as a textile worker.

Mrs. Proctor was a memeber of Cedar Creek Baptist church in Newnan.

Her husband of 69 years, Joel Proctor Sr., and her son, Ellis Proctor, proceeded her in death. Mrs. Proctor is survived by sons, Joel M. and Kathleen Proctor Jr. and Lonnie and Donna Proctor, all of Newnan; and two daughters, Mrs. John and Elsie Lee of Frostsproof, Florida and Mrs. Bobby and Betty Joe Bearden of Sargent.

The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Jones Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2001 in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, with Rev. Derwin David Brown officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mrs. Ada Williams, 93, of Jackson Street, Newnan, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 at Brian Nursing Center.

A homemaker, she was born March 10, 1908 in Lawsonville, North Carolina. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Frye and her husband Howard Williams.

A funeral will be held at graveside Sunday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. in Carolina Cemetery Park in Concord, North Carolina. Mr. Ed Williams will officiate.

Surviving are son, Edward Lee Williams of Newnan; daughter, Donna Davis of Newborn, North Carolina; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bob B. Mann
Mr. Bob Baker Mann, 76, of Newnan died Wednesday, September 12, 2001.

Mr. Mann was born Nov. 14, 1924 in Newnan, son of the late Leroy and Bertha Chandler Mann. A graduate of Newnan High School, he attended Castle Heights Military Academy and Auburn University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Mr. Mann was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Newnan Rotary Club for 50 years and was the club's president from 1968-69.

He was in the insurance business for 34 years, acting as general agent for Coastal States, Sun America, Southland Life and Jackson National Life. He was preceded in death by his brother, James L. Mann.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 14, from 3-4 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at McKoon Funeral Home on Friday at 4 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Frances K. Mann; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James "Jim" (Billie) Gatewood of Americus; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Bob B. (Linda) Mann Jr. of Newnan; grandchildren, Virginia Crisp Gatewood, James Crisp Gatewood Jr., Frances Mann Gatewood, Spencer Parkland Couch, Staci Couch Lanier and husband Campbell B. Lanier IV, Bob Baker Mann III, Annanbelle Shrader Mann; and a sister, Mrs. C. W. Farmer Jr.

Mrs. Maggie McClendon, 89, of Old Carrollton Road, Newnan died Wednesday, Sept. 12 201 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. McClendon was born Jan. 10, 1912 in Newnan. She was a retired food service worker.

A funeral is Friday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Dean and Father Russell Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include a brother, Devers "Deb" Bryant of Carrollton; and sisters, Ovie Bryant Johnson, Lavonia Bryant Stephens, both of Sargent.

Mr. J. Pat Ott
Mr. James Pat Ott, 64, of Lamar Potts Road, Newnan, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Ott was born May 17, 1937 in Monroe County, Miss. He was a farmer.

Mr. Ott came to Newnan in 1960 to manage Dr. Jim Arnold's Lazy Lands Jersey Farm. He pioneered with other local dairymen to form Coweta Dairies Co-op and was president of the cooperative.

He went on to own and operate three dairy farms in Coweta County and owned the renowned Mathis P&M Dairy Farm in Monroe with his son.

Mr. Ott was secretary of the American Jersey Cattle Club and president of the Georgia Jersey Cattle Club. He was a Federal Land Bank Commission board member and a member of the AgSouth Farm Credit board of directors.

A former 4-H leader in Coweta County, he won the National Sheep Shearing Contest and the National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest. In later years, he was a real estate develooper while continuing to farm beef cattle.

A funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Robert Flippo and Jeremy Baseman officiating.

Singers for the funeral will be Lynette Bivens, Kathleen Frederick, Mark Myers, Ernie Reynolds and Melanie Thain. Anita Trotter will be organist.

Mrs. Lucille B. Sigman
Mrs. Lucille B. Sigman, 70, of Duncan Road, Carrollton, died Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

A native of Coweta County, she was born July 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Tom Bishop and Martha Powell Bishop. Mrs. Sigman was a member of the Central Baptist Church and Adult Sunday School Class. She was employed at International Playtex as a seamstress.

Surviving are her husband, Melvin Sigman; sons, Johnny Bishop, Ware, Massachusets, Melvin Glenn Sigman, Newnan; daughters, Margie Ann Harper, Ware, Massachusetts, Donna Lynn Fulton, Atlanta, Donna (Alfred) Lloyd, Carrollton, Pam Snyder, Columbia, South Carolina; brothers, Thomas Bishop, Turin, Georgia, John Bishop, Newnan, Lee Youngblood, Newnan; sisters, Hazel Dykes, Newnan, Cora Abbott, Carrollton, Mary Glenn, Palmetto, Rose Mathis, Newnan, Florence Addison, Newnan, and Sue Hanson, Newnan; 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Bearden and the Rev. Johnny League officiating. Music will be provided by Renee Hill and Brian Bridges. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Bearden, Buck Chandler, Michael Maverly, Olan Wiggins, Kevin Green and Carl Lloyd.

The family is receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13 and 14 from 6-8 p.m.

Bob B. Mann
Bob Baker Mann, 76, of Newnan died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001.

Mr. Mann was born Nov. 14, 1924 in Newnan, son of the late Leroy and Bertha Chandler Mann. A graduate of Newnan High School, he attended Castle Heights Military Academy and Auburn University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Mr. Mann was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Newnan Rotary Club for 50 years and was the club's president from 1968-69.

He was in the insurance business for 34 years, acting as general agent for Coastal States, Sun America, Southland Life and Jackson National Life. He was preceded in death by his brother, James L. Mann.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 14, from 3-4 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at McKoon Funeral Home on Friday at 4 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Frances K. Mann; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James "Jim" (Billie) Gatewood of Americus; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Bob B. (Linda) Mann Jr. of Newnan; grandchildren, Virginia Crisp Gatewood, James Crisp Gatewood Jr., Frances Mann Gatewood, Spencer Parkland Couch, Staci Couch Lanier and husband Campbell B. Lanier IV, Bob Baker Mann III, Annanbelle Shrader Mann; and a sister, Mrs. C. W. Farmer Jr.

Mr. J. Pat Ott
Mr. James Pat Ott, 64, of Lamar Potts Road, Newnan, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Ott was born May 17, 1937 in Monroe County, Miss. He was a farmer.

Mr. Ott came to Newnan in 1960 to manage Dr. Jim Arnold's Lazy Lands Jersey Farm. He pioneered with other local dairymen to form Coweta Dairies Co-op and was president of the cooperative.

He went on to own and operate three dairy farms in Coweta County and owned the renowned Mathis P&M Dairy Farm in Monroe with his son.

Mr. Ott was secretary of the American Jersey Cattle Club and president of the Georgia Jersey Cattle Club. He was a Federal Land Bank Commission board member and a member of the AgSouth Farm Credit board of directors.

A former 4-H leader in Coweta County, he won the National Sheep Shearing Contest and the National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest. In later years, he was a real estate developer while continuing to farm beef cattle.

Visitation will be held today, Sept, 13, from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Robert Flippo and Jeremy Baseman officiating.

Singers for the funeral will be Lynette Bivens, Kathleen Frederick, Mark Myers, Ernie Reynolds and Melanie Thain. Anita Trotter will be organist.

Mrs. Maggie McClendon, 89, of Old Carrollton Road, Newnan died Wednesday, Sept. 12 201 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. McClendon was born Jan. 10, 1912 in Newnan. She was a retired food service worker.

Visitation will be held today, Sept. 13, from 6-8 p.m.

The funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Dean and Father Russell Kendrick officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include a brother, Devers "Deb" Bryant of Carrollton; and sisters, Ovie Bryant Johnson, Lavonia Bryant Stephens, both of Sargent.

Mrs. Lillie Mae Sims Knox, 82, of Palmetto, died September 9, 2001.

Mrs. Knox was born April 7, 1919, to the late Willis and Elnora Sims. She joined the Ramah Baptist Church at an early age and worked diligently until her health failed. She was married to the late C. W. Knox and they had one child, Clarence Willis Knox.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at Ramah Baptist Church in Palmetto. The Rev. G. E. Harris will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Gay Adams, Rev. J. R. Williams and Rev. Reginald Custalow. Burial will be in Palmetto Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rufus Graham, Charles Knox, James Knox, Lewis Knox, Tez Peavy and Gerald Williams.

Surviving are son, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Willis (Freda) Knox; two sisters, Sarah Sims-Williams of Palmetto and Mary Sims-White of Dayton, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Mary Sims of Atlanta and Liz Knox of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers-in-law, W. Mr. Lawson was born February 15, 1943 in New Orleans, LA. He worked as a property developer.

A funeral will be held at graveside at Sharpsburg Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. Dr. Joel E. Richardson and Dr. Harry Barrow will officiate. Burial will be in Sharpsburg Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Jerry Wyley Shoemake, 60, of Channelview, Texas, died Friday, September 7, 2001 in Nassau Bay, Texas.

He was a resident of the Channelview area for 16 years and was a retired veteran from the United States Air Force with 20 years service. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas, with the Rev. Wayne Hardin officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton.

Surviving are his wife, Carloyn Shoemake of Channelview; son, Jeffery Shoemake of Houston; daughter, Tamera Buhrow and her husband Scott of Osh Kosh, WI; grandchildren, Shannon Drexler, Brandy Foos, Justin Shoemake, Jennifer Shoemake, Daniel Buhrow and Travis Buhrow.

Mrs. Yates was born July 15, 1941 in Portland, Oregon. She worked as a legal assistant.

A funeral will be held at McKoon Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. Father Carl Dugan will officiate.
