Mr. William Edwin Baird, 87, of Belk Road, Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, October 28, 2001 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

Mr. Baird was owner of the Genuine Motor Parts auto parts store and was a United States armed forces veteran.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home chapel. Pastor Danny Wilson and the Rev. Bill Dean will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Baird of Newnan; son, Thomas Baird of Tallahassee, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael Toby Baird, Theodore Edward Baird and Thomas Noah Baird.

Mrs. Jeanette Wallace Eason, 74, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001 at Atlanta Medical Center.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Gary Brown and the Rev. Ron Westbury will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mrs. Eason was born June 7, 1927 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Michael and Clara York Wallace. She had lived in Hogansville since 1946, was a member of the Hogansville Church of God, and was retired from Mansour's Department Store in LaGrange after 21 years of service.

Surviving are her husband, James E. Eason of Hogansville; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jerry Hogan, also of Hogansville; son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Marilyn Eason of Suwanee; four sisters, Mrs. Nadine Henry and Mrs. Phoebe Smith, both of Whitesburg; Mrs. Linda Williams of Anniston, Ala. and Mrs. Ruth Mannis of Stephensville, Texas; two brothers, Billy Wallace of Franklin and the Rev. Gary Brown of Whitesburg; granddaughter, Mrs. Amber Gilpatrick of Sugar Hill; and great-grandson, Devin Gilpatrick.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Katherine Yates; sister, Mrs. Louise Shuler; and a brother, Michael Wallace.

Mr. James Fletcher "Jimmy" Russell II
Mr. James Fletcher "Jimmy" Russell II, 54, of Franklin, Ga., died Sunday, October 28, 2001 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Ga.

Mr. Russell was born July 5, 1947 in Randolph County, Alabama to Ona Mae Prestridge Russell, and the late James Fletcher Russell Sr.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Tina Gean Russell.

Mr. Russell was employed as a parts delivery man for the Bumper to Bumper Automotive Supply Store in Franklin, Ga. He was a Protestant by faith, and a beloved son, father and grandfather.

A memorial service for Mr. Russell will be Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Ga., with the Rev. Lynn Janney officiating. The family was receiving guests Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the "Jimmy Russell Memorial Trust Fund" at Regions Bank in Franklin, Ga. is being established to aid in the education of his grandchildren.

Surviving are his mother, Ona Prestridge Russell; son, James Fletcher Russell III; two grandchildren Jessica, and Joseph Russell, all of Franklin, Ga.

Mrs. Norma Caroline Smith
Mrs. Norma Caroline Smith, 74, of Newnan, Ga., formerly of Spring Valley, New York, died at her home Sunday evening, October 28, 2001.

Mrs. Smith was born in Paterson, New Jersey to Norman and Edith Pitt. As a lover of music and dancing, she won several competitive dance awards during her life. She was a bookkeeper for Rockland Paper Products, a devoted wife and mother, and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Spring Valley, New York. Mrs. Smith moved to Newnan after the death of her husband five years ago to be with her daughter.

Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charles Harold Smith. She is survivied by a daughter, Terri Smith of Newnan, Ga.; sister, Esther Scales of Pembroke Pines, Florida; nieces and nephews, Mary and Billy Scales of Newnan, Georgia and Debbie and Bob Kelley of Miramar, Florida. Her best friends included Helen Stevens and Janet Borchers.

Visitation will be at Sniffen-Sagala Funeral Home in Spring Valley, New York Friday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at The Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley, New York with the Rev. Johnson officiating.

Mrs. Smith's friends residing in Newnan are invited to sign the Memorial Book at Jones Funeral Home, Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Hattie Idella Allen Williams, 94, of Newnan, died Sunday, October 28, 2001.

She was born January 17, 1907 in Lenox, Cook County, Ga. She was the founder of Hansel and Gretel Nursery School Inc. in Atlanta.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 31 at McKoon Funeral Home and chapel in Newnan with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. and the service at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Winston Skinner will officiate.

There will also be a service on Friday, Nov. 2 in Tifton, Ga. at the Bowen-Donaldson Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2-3 p.m. and services at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church chapel. The Rev. Eddie Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton.

Pallbearers will be Guy Daughtrey, Cecil Jones, Wayne Jones, A. McKendall Williams, David Allen Williams, Trammell Williams and James (Jimmy) L. Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Men's Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church in Newnan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos McKendall Williams, and daughter Marguerite Helen Williams Simril.

A funeral was conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29 at graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. The Rev. Archie Norman officiated.

Jacob was born Oct. 6, 2001 in Columbus.

Mr. Barney R. Higgins of Jasper and formerly of Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, October 28, 2001.

Mr. Higgins was formerly associated with Blue Star Food Inc. in Jasper.

Mr. Michael "Mickey" Morgan
Mr. Michael "Mickey" Morgan, 54, of Newnan, died Monday, October 29, 2001 at Newnan Hospital.

Mr. Morgan was born December 28, 1946 in Atlanta, Ga. He worked in customer service for Delta Air Lines for 32 years and was a United States armed forces veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hutcherson and Mary Lou Morgan, and brothers, Eddie and Kenny Morgan.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

A funeral will be at Heritage Christian Church Thursday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Glen Samples and the Rev. Greg Marksberry will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road.

Mrs. Vivian Louise Sprayberry, 73, died Sunday, October 28, 2001.

She was born May 4, 1928 in Hazelhurst, MS. She graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta, Ga. and was a charter member of Audubon Forest United Methodist Church in Atlanta. She was a member of Cascade Garden Club, United Methodist Women and Georgia Antique Engine Club. She was a well-known floral designer and also a former owner of Austell Florist. She was a member of Cambellton United Methodist Church since 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Bryce. She was a beloved mother and grandmother.

Surviving are daughters, Frances Castle, and Deborah and Lynn Denson; sons, Bryce and Debra Sprayberry III, all of Douglasville, Ga., and Michael and Laura Sprayberry of Newnan; grandchildren, Jennifer Castle, Heather Sprayberry, Jason, Deanna and Amie Denson; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, Oct. 30, and Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5-8 p.m. The service will be Thursday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. at Campbellton United Methodist Church on Highway 92 in Fairburn, Ga. with the Rev. Vicki Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Robert Paul "Bob" Camp, 61, of Franklin, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

Mr. Camp was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Crawford County, Ohio, to the late Harold Clifton Camp and Genevive Elsie Gilmore Camp. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Camp was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served as a deputy sheriff for 30 years. He was a member of the VFW in Crestline, Ohio, as well as the Franklin chapter of the American Legion.

A funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Ruth Stratton Camp of Franklin; daughters and sons-in-law Candice and Marty Funderburk of Fruithurst, Ala., and Amy and Kane Miller of Galon, Ohio; his mother, Genevive Elsie Camp; and sister, Bonnie Camp, both of Franklin; brother Jerry Neldon Camp of California; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. J.T. Gordy, 78, of Hogansville, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Newnan Hosptial.

Mr. Gordy was born March 15, 1923, in LaGrange to the late James Estes Gordy and the late Florence Humphrey Gordy. Before moving to Hogansville in 1988, he was a longtime resident of College Park and was a retired lieutenant for the East Point Police Department. Mr. Gordy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Highland Baptist Church, the Hogansville Masonic Lodge, and the Hogansville Senior Center.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Jimmy Brown will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shirley Jean Orr, 63, of Newnan, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Orr was born July 6, 1938 to Georgia Williams Blandenburg and the late Robert Williams. She joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age and retired from the William L. Bonnell Company in April, after 24 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice Williams.

A celebration of life service will be held Monday, Oct. 29, 20001, at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church of Lovelace Street. The Rev. J.W. Gibbons, paster, and Rev. Dana Graham officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.T. Coleman and Evangelist Susie Hudson. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Burston, Lee Moss, Jackie Berry, Brewster Carter, Melson Meriwether, Kenneth Carter, and Larry Cochran. Flower ladies will be Linda Williams, Roxie Redwine, Dorothy Arnold, Rosa Slaughter, Jacqueline Carter, Floratine Amey, Wanda Spear, Wanda Bonner, Georgia Satterwhite, and Marilyn Melson.

Mr. Leonard Hester
Mr. Leonard Hester, 68, of Franklin, Georgia died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga.

Mr. Hester was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Fulton County to the late Melvin Pink Hester and Devada Irene Pittman Hester. He was a retired brick mason. Mr. Hester served his country in the United States Army. For his valor, Mr. Hester obtained the rank of Private 2nd Class and was awarded the UN Service Medal, Korean Defense Medal, three bronze service stars, two o/s bars and the National Defense Medal.

He was a beloved father and grandfather.

Funeral services for Mr. Hester will be conducted Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 at the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Ga.

The family will receive guests at the funeral home Saturday and Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The interment will follow the service in the Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Sandy Springs, Ga.

Survivors include his children, Linda Morgan of Poswer Springs, Susie and Doug Stephens of Franklin, Rhonda and Becky Hester of Jonesboro and Mark and Debra Hester of Moreland; five sisters, Margine Tribble of Newborn, Frances Beck of Temple, Jewell Hicks of Carrollton, Brenda Furtick of Orangeburg, S.C., and Joyce Cain of Locust Grove, Ga.; two brothers, Guy Hester of Cumming and Thomas Hester of Reidsville, Ga.; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mr. David Evans Sibley, 62, of Moreland, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at his residence.

Born March 21, 1939, Mr. Sibley was a retired Newnan Utilities employee and a member of the Coweta Cattleman's Association.

Visitation will be at McKoon Funeral Home today between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at White Oak Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on Monday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m, with Reverends Tom Shoger and Rabun Williams officiating.

Burial will be at White Oak ARP Cemetery on Gordon Road.

Pallbearers will be deacons of the church. Elders of the church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Sibley; two daughters, Amy and Don Cannon and Reneee and Ricky WIllis; two sons, Alan and Pam Sibley and Stephen and Stephanie Sibley; one sister, Sara Guilbert; two brothers, John and Robert Sibley; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Sibley was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Milton Sibley and Aaron Perry Sibley.

Mrs. Geraldine Mobley Bernhard, 86, of Sweetbriar Road, Newnan, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001 at the Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, Ga.

She was a housewife and member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Bernhard, two brothers, Guy and Ralph Mobley, two grandchildren, Kim Brown and Randy Norton.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Joseph W. and Jill Bernhard, Albuquerque, New Mexico; son and daughter-in-law, Wilson and Patsy Bernhard, Newnan; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Donald Froseth, Newnan; ten grandchildren including Ed Norton, Donna Boles, Monica Baker and Lance Bernhard, all of Newnan; and many, many great-grandchildren; sister, LaZona Horsley, Sharpsburg.

Mrs. Virginia Lee Stratton Wester of Newnan, formerly of Brooks, Ga., died October 25, 2001

Mrs. Wester, daughter of Thomas and Edna Faulkner (Sweeney) Stratton, was born January 14, 1931 in Nashville, TN, where she graduated from Hillsboro High School. In 1955 she was employed by Eastern Airlines as a stewardess and continued her career with Eastern Airlines in various positions until her retirement in 1988.

Surviving are brother, William Paul Stratton of Franklin, TN; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Hines) Stratton of Franklin, TN, and Karen Susanne (Borchert) Stratton of LaJolla, CA; step-daughters, Cheryl Henry Henderson of Boca Raton, FL, Vickie Henry Preston of Charleston, IL, Virgie Henry Dague of Taylorsville, IL, Mary Alice Wester Frost of Gainesville, GA, Linda Kay Wester Millisor of Breckenridge, CO; one step-son, Richard Wester of Douglasville, GA; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Edward Thomas Stratton of Nashville, TN, Bobby Lewis Stratton of Franklin, TN and Richard Earl Stratton of LaJolla, CA.

Mr. William Eugene "Uncle Bill" Brazee, 92, of Fourth Street, Arnco died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at his residence.

Mr. Brazee was born August 30, 1909 in Galva, IL. He was a foundary worker and a veteran.

Mrs. Eileen Neal Lowery, 88, of Union City, Georgia and formerly of Dublin, Ga., died Wednesday in a Union City convalescent center after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Lowery was born in Laurens County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Edward Monroe Neal and Lula Elizabeth Stevens Neal. She was married to the late Sam Lamar Lowery Sr. and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newnan, Ga.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at C. Homer Adams Chapel in Dublin, Ga. The Rev. Jack Key will officiate.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Christian City Convalescent Center, 7300 Lester Road, Union City, Ga. 30291-2328 in memory of Mrs. Lowery.

Mr. Riley was born January 29, 1942 in Barbousville, WV. He was a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army with 32 years of exemplary service.

The family was receiving friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

A funeral will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, California, Friday, Oct. 26. A military chaplain will officiate.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Riley of Newnan; mother, Eva Mae Riley of California; sons, David Riley of Newnan, Doug Riley of Marietta, Ga., and Don Terry of Columbia, South Carolina; daughters, Deborah Riley of Seattle, Washington, and Alicia Chrones of Suwanee, Ga.; 4 grandchildren; one sister and one brother.

Mr. Reginald Sinkfield, 41, of Sussie Place, Newnan, husband of Mrs. Claudette Sinkfield, died at his residence.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at All Souls Church of God in Christ, 688 Highway 29 North, with the Rev. Curtis Connally, pastor the Rev. W. Cortez Golphin officiating. Remains will be placed in state at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Luthersville, Ga.

Surviving are his wife Claudette Perry, daughter Shannon Sinkfield, mother Mrs. Elmira Connally; step-father, Olin L. Connally; sisters, Denise (Jimmy) Ellis, Lorrie (Scotty) Render, Latitia Sinkfield; brothers, Charles K. Sinkfield and Henry (Hank) Sinkfield; special uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Harry (Rose Lee) Pinson, Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Marie Jordan and Azzie Lee Thompson and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Vera Louise Willingham, 71, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Warm Springs, Ga.

Mrs. Willingham was born to Noah and Omia Proctor in Coweta County where she lived all of her life. An avid collector of antiques, oddities and other "what-nots," Mrs. Willingham retired from West Point Pepperell Textile Mills as a seamstress several years ago.

Her husband, Leroy Willingham and a son, Ricky Lee Coggin, preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Dennis and Kristi Coggin, Steven and Kim Willingham and Comer Noah Willingham, all of Newnan; brother, Bobby and Sara Proctor of Palmetto, Ga.; sister, Bernice Crider of Franklin, Ga.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at Jones Funeral Home.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Fleming officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mr. William Eugene Brazee, 92, of Fourth Street, Newnan, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at his residence.

Mr. Brazee was born August 30, 1909 in Galva, IL. He was a foundary worker and a veteran.

The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25.

A funeral will be at First Pentecostal Holiness Church Friday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Joe Strickland and the Rev. O. C. Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William Chappell, Jimmy Marks, Aubrey "Spud" Shelnutt, Sherman Smith, Billy W. Tucker and Johnny Williams.

Surviving are wife, Vara Irenee Brazee, of Newnan; nephews and their wives, Jeffrey and Karen Chappell, Joseph and Brenda Chappell and William and Kim Chappell, all of Newnan.

Mrs. Merle Hardin, 82, of Senoia, Ga., died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at the Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

Mrs. Hardin was born September 24, 1919 to the late Martin Luther Vickery and Mary Frances Crawford Vickery. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Senoia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Hardin, Sr.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kay Hardin of Molena, and grandson and his wife Jason and Tammy Hardin of Senoia.

A funeral will be at graveside Thursday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Senoia. The Rev. Rebecca MacArthur will officiate.

Friends were visiting the family Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 7-9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Harold Hamner, 81, of Newnan, Ga. and formerly of Bedford, IN, died on Monday, October 15, 2001 at his residence.

He was a retired painter and veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Hamner of Newnan; four sons, Dean Hamner of Newnan; John Hamner of Fort Pierce, FL; Mark Hamner of El Paso, Texas; Alan Hamner of Baycliff, Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Elmwood Chapel of the Day and Carter Morturay. The Rev. Alan Reed officiated. Burial was at Beech Grove Cemetery in Bedford. Members of Gillen Post No. 133 of the American Legion accorded military rites at the graveside. Friends were received at the Mortuary on Friday.

She was born February 26, 1921 in Lamar County, Ga. and was a homemaker.

The family was receiving friends Monday, Oct. 22 from 7-9 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home.

A funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at Moreland United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard M. Huycke and the Rev. Edward Butler will officiate. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery, Harris Street.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Cauthen, Phillip Estes, Jimmy Jones, Dale Lamb, Bobby Thompson and Danny Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Weston Tidwell; and parents Edward Lewis Butler and Annie Lynn Graves.

Surviving are daughter, Kaye Arnold of Trinity, North Carolina; son, David Tidwell of Eatonton, Ga.; brothers, Edward Butler of Milledgeville, Ga. and Herman Butler of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Emily Witcher of Atlanta, Ga.

Mr. Richard Lamar Hammock
Mr. Richard Lamar Hammock, 62, of Hogansville, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Mr. Hammock was born Jan. 26, 1939, in Hogansville to the late Luther E. Hammock and the late Bernice Hubbard Hammock Lane. A resident of Carrollton from 1972 to 1985, he lived in Hogansville most of his life and was a retired market manager for Big Star, A&P and Winn Dixie Stores. He was a Baptist, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a member of the Moose Club and VFW.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Lamar Hammock, Jr., and a daughter, Elizabeth Janice Hammock.

A funeral was held Sunday, Oct. 21, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Jimmy Brown officiated, and burial was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Surviving are his daughter, Joy Drummond of Atlanta; sons and daughter-in-law Christopher and Amy Hammock of Marietta and Matthew Hammock of Hogansville; sister, Patricia Fleckman of Hogansville; brother, Eugene Hammock of Phenix City, Ala.; and five grandchildren.
