Mrs. May was born Jan. 9, 1927 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Gordon and Rada Shinn Burnham. She was the widow of Edgar Littleton May.
Mrs. May was a retired textile worker with Bibb Manufacturing. She was a member of Sargent Baptist Church.
A funeral was held Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Dean and the Rev. Joe Bufford officiating. Burial was in Sargent Cemetery.

Mrs. Sherrer was born Feb. 3, 1958 in Newnan. She worked in the area of quality control.

Mr. Howard S. Harris, 62, of Franklin, died Oct. 7, 2001 at his home.

Mr. Harris was born March 21, 1939 in Heard County, son of the late Henry Arthur and Sephy Dell Fomby Harris. He was employed as a mechanic with Savannah Sugar Refinery in Clewiston, Florida, before returning to Franklin in 1993.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Tommy Davis of Franklin, Kelly and Larry Heath of LaGrange, and Deborah and Ronnie Kelley of Lanett, Ala.; one son, Howard Harris Jr. of Marietta; two sisters, Lottie Moody of Hogansville, and Margaret Woodruff of Indiantown, Fla.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Edward Jeter, 73, of Hogansville, died Sunday, October 7, 2001 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. James Calhoun and the Rev. David Craven will officiate.
Mr. Jeter was born December 27, 1927 in Troup County, son of the late Wilbur Vanburen and Metta Mae Turner Jeter. He lived in Hogansville all of his life, was a member of Trinity Worship Center of Hogansville, and was retired from Uniroyal. He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Jeter.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Hay Jeter; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Vandy Vandiver; son and daughter-in-law, Van and Traci Jeter, all of Hogansville; sister, Dorothy Oliver of Winnsboro, S.C.; six grandchildren, Holly Vandiver, Hether Vandiver, Scott Jeter, Stacy Jeter, Matthew Jeter and Bailey Jeter; one great-grandchild.

Mr. Spradlin was born March 29, 1934, in Coweta County. He worked for the city of Newnan for 40 years, and retired as the superintendent of public works.

Mrs. Evelyn Elizabeth Young Bailey, 49, of Franklin, died at her home on Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, after a long and gallant fight against cancer.
Mrs. Bailey was born June 28, 1952 in Heard County to the late John Dick Young and Mary Willie Pike Young. She was a member of the Welcome United Methodist Church. For several years she was the assistant food service director at Heard County Elementary School where she adored all the children and was loved by all of them. She was a wonderful wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral was held Sunday, Oct. 7, 2002, in the chapel of the Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin. The Rev. Hershel Phillips officiated, and burial was in the Welcome United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Bishop, 95, of Senoia, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Southland Nursing Home.
Mrs. Bishop was born March 13, 1906 in Langdale, Ala., to the late Budd Kellum and Rebecca Short Kellum. She was a housewife, and attended Miracle Way Tabernacle Church. She was preceded in death by several children.

John D. "Butch" Lewis, 54, of Columbus died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at the Medical Center in Columbus after a short illness.
Mr. Lewis was born Aug. 5, 1947 in Columbus, son of Lucile D. Lewis and the late John Bass Lewis. He had lived in Columbus all his life.
Mr. Lewis graduated from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, where he majored in history and political science. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi at Mercer University and a member of MENSA.
Mr. Lewis had served as secretary and treasurer with the Columbus Exchange Club. He was retired from the Columbus Water Works.
The graveside funeral service will be held today, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus with the Rev. Winston Skinner officiating.

Mrs. Virginia Smith Powers, 78, of Hogansville died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at her home.
Mrs. Powers was born July 31, 1923 in Roanoke, Ala., daughter of the late John Wesley Smith and Lois Bishop Smith. She had lived in Hogansville since 1936.
Mrs. Powers was a retired beautician. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Ruth Hester.

Mrs. Grace Lunsford Short, 84, of Greenville died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Mrs. Short was born Dec. 9, 1916 in Troup County, daughter of the late Walter and Roxie Davis Lunsford. She lived in Greenville most of her life.
Mrs. Short was a member of Greenville Baptist Church. She was retired from the ASCS office in Greenville.
The widow of Willie V. Short, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Short Joslin.

Mrs. Mollie Bell Arrington White, 96, of the Frolona Community near Franklin died Oct. 4, 2001 at her residence.
Mrs. White was born Jan. 13, 1905 in Heard County, daughter of the late Otis Arrington and Francis Wilson Arrington. The widow of Charlie White Sr., she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vera White.
Mrs. White was an active member of High Point Church of God and was known to many as "Mama White." High Point proclaimed Jan. 16, 2000 as "Mollie White Day" in her honor.
In her younger years, Mrs. White worked in the weave shop at Dunson Mills in LaGrange. In later year, she cared for her family and many grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held today, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. at High Point Church of God at Franklin with the Rev. Dewayne Shadix and the Rev. Loyce Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Francis Edna Mitchell, 74, of Stratford, Okla., formerly of Franklin, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 in Stratford after several months of declining health.
Mrs. Mitchell was born July 29, 1927 in Hendersonville, N. C. to the late Troy and Elise Drake Bishop. For many years, she was nurse's aide at Franklin Health Care Center.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary in LaGrange. Gardening and working with flowers were among her hobbies.
The funeral service was held Oct. 4 in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Sons Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Lynn Janney officiating. Music was provided by Leesa Stutts Cothran, and interment followed in Crestlawn Cemetery in Atlanta.

Mrs. Winnie Lenore Kendrick Thomaston, 78, of Franklin died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 at her home after several years of declining health.
Mrs. Thomaston was born June 11, 1923 in Heard County, daughter of the late William Cleveland Kendrick and Willie Mae Bradley Kendrick. She was a homemaker and a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Heard County.
The funeral service was held Sept. 30 in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Jimmy Henry and the Rev. Wayne Webb officiating. Interment followed at Centralhatchee Baptist Church Cemetery.

Walter P. Blanton
Walter Parks Blanton, 78, of Macon died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Blanton was born Oct. 2, 1922 in Coweta County, son of the late James Austin and Mary Williams Blanton. He was a retired lieutenant colonel and served in World War II, as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Mr. Blanton received many military decorations and commendations.
After retiring from the military, Mr. Blanton studied theology and became and Episcopal priest. He served churches in Mississippi and Georgia before retiring in Macon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Johnson of Macon; his sister, Mary Gray Hutchinson of Haralson; and his nephew, Benjamin Gray of Statesboro.
Survivors include nephews and wives, Hosea and Raye Gray of Haralson, Tony and Carolyn Gray of Mableton, Jane Cleveland Gray of Statesboro; other nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held today, Oct. 4, at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary in Macon with Rev. Austin Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D. C.

Mrs. Myrtie Velma Dingler Hendrix, 92, of Newnan died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 in the home where she had resided since 1927.
Mrs. Hendrix was born March 17, 1909 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Dingler. She was retired as a seamstress for Playtex.
Mrs. Hendrix was a member of Sargent Baptist Church for 60 years. The widow of Charlie Bee Hendrix, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tiney Veria Hendrix; son, Clinton Hendrix; and three brothers.

Vincent Ben Cooper, 81, of Senoia died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Cooper was born Nov. 10, 1919 in Fayette County. He was a carpenter and a U. S. Army veteran.
A graveside funeral service will be held today, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery near Senoia.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelia and Jack Guwin of Senoia; sisters, Hazel Bonsel of Gastonia, North Carolina, Vivian Styles of Bruno, Alaska; brother, Mose Cooper of Toledo, Ohio; and grandchildren, Douglas and Tina Guwin of Senoia, Scott and Tiffany Guwin of Sedro Whooley, Washington, Warren and Sandy Guwin of Sharpsburg.

Mrs. Nikki Knight
Mrs. Nicolette "Nikki" Knight, 63, of Newnan died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 at Newnan Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Knight was born in London, England, where she grew up and graduated from London Technical College with a degree in accounting. After completing college, she was employed as an accountant with Benniman and Sons, CPA firm where she met her future husband, Gary Knight, who was stationed at RAF Chicksands with the U. S. Air Force.
They were married in Bedford, Bedfordshire in April 1962 and moved to Fort Mead, Md. in June 1964.
During her life, the Knights traveled with the Department of Defense to New Mexico, Texas, California and Washington. While the Knights were living in Virginia, Mrs. Knight began her career with the Army Air Force Exchange Service as an accountant. She retired in 1991.
Mrs. Knight moved to Newnan in 1978 after her husband was transferred to Fort Gilliam where he later retired. She was an active member of Coweta Chapter 378 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Knight's hobbies included gardening and cooking.
A memorial service wil be held Thursday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Clay Jacobs officiating. Coweta Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, will pay their respects during the service. Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Seale, Ala.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Gary Glenn Knight of Newnan; daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Scott Lowery of Norcross; and grandsons, Mitchell and Charlie Lowery of Norcross.

Mrs. Polly Miller
Mrs. Polly Everett Miller, 91, of Hogansville died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Miller was born July 24, 1910 in Cumberland County, N. C ., daughter of he late Edward and Betty Ford Everett. She lived in Hogansville most of her life, was a retired bookkeeper and was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Hogansville.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bettye Cook.
The funeral service was held Oct. 1 in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with Dr. Jimmy Brown officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Mrs. Wyolene Hobbs Steadham of Newnan died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001.

Mrs. Gwinetta Keaton Armstrong, 50, of the Glenloch Community near Franklin, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala.
Mrs. Armstrong was born Nov. 14, 1950, in Carrollton to Hoyt and Betty McWorter Keaton. She was a registered nurse, and in later years had enjoyed a career in the truck driving industry. Mrs. Armstrong was a member of the Old Camp United Methodist Church and was a beloved daughter and mother.
A funeral will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Glenloch Baptist Church in Heard County. The Rev. Neil Awbrey will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Betty Mann, 86, of Newnan, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Mann was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Bamberg County, S.C. She was a homemaker.

Steven Edward Pike died at birth Thursday night, Sept. 27, 2001, at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.
Steven was named after his maternal grandfather, Stevens Larue Ponder, who died Sept. 8, 2000.

Judge Dewey Smith, 77, of Carrollton, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, of Parkinson's Disease.
Mr. Smith was born in Carroll County to the late Charles Lee Smith and Maude Hutcheson Smith. He served in the Medical Corps during World War II, and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he had been a deacon and Sunday school teacher and serviced in other leadership positions. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ratio Fred Smith and G. Lee Smith, Sr.
Mr. Smith graduated with honors from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1949, and was a member of Delta Theta Phi. He was a partner at Smith and Hamrick before being appointed judge of Superior Court in 1980 by governor George Busbee. He retired as chief judge of the Coweta Circuit on Dec. 31, 1996.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Dr. J. Howard Cobble, Dr. Jimmy Gentry, the Rev. Godron Willingham, and Dr. Stephen Graham will officiate, and burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens. Music will be provided by Julia Ann New and Terry Lowry, and the American Flag will be presented by American Legion Post 143.

Mr. Lynwood J. Cheatham, 85, of Newnan, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.
Mr. Cheatham was born March 19, 1916, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a retired accountant and served in the U.S. Navy.

Mrs. Agnes E. Cotton, 83, of Moreland, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center,
Mrs. Cotton was born January 11, 1918, in Randolph County, Ala. She was a retired seamstress at Egan Cotton Mills.

Ms. Mary Kathleen Monahan, 41, of Franklin, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital.
Ms. Monahan was born Jan. 7, 1960 in Frankfurt, Germany. She had lived in the Hogansville area since 1965, and was a member of the Catholic church. She was preceded in death by her father, John G. Monahan; her son, Matthew Wayne Norton; and her brother, Richard Monahan

Mrs. Ethel Lorraine Nelson
Mrs. Ethel Lorraine Nelson, 77, of Newnan, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Nelson was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Athens County Ohio to the late Lonnie and Dora Stover. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Nelson spent her life caring for her family. For health reasons, Mrs. Nelson's daughter Barbara moved her to Newnan so she could be near her other daughter, Diana, who was her caretaker and best friend in her last years. A Christian, Mrs. Nelson enjoyed fishing, crocheting, sewing, and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William H. Nelson, Sr., and a son, Larry G. Nelson.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. at Souers-Cadaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville Ohio. The Rev. Lou Donnals will officiate,and burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Nelsonville, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
