Mrs. Ena Gonzalez, 87, of Newnan died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001 in Charlotte, N. C..
Mrs. Gonzalez was a native of Cuba, but she had been an American citizen for many years. She lived in Decatur before moving to Newnan recently.
Mrs. Gonzalez was a teacher, and she was retired from Rich's. She was a charter member of First Hispanic Baptist Church of Atlanta, and she taught Sunday School until two years ago.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 6:30-8 p.m. at First Hispanic Baptist Church in Atlanta. The funeral service will be held at the church at 8 p.m.
Burial will follow Thursday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. at Gwinnett Memorial Park.
Survivors include daughters, Ena Garcia of Havana City, Cuba, Gigi Boyett of Charlotte, N. C., Ruby Diaz of Decatur; son, Mark Garcia of Gwinnett County; nine grandchildren, including the Rev. Ruth Cuellar of Newnan; and seven great-grandchildren, including Daniel Bustamante of Newnan

Funeral services for Mr. Harvey Lee McWaters, 91, of Hogansville, Ga., formerly of Heard County, were conducted Friday, December 14, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Corinth United Methodist Church with the Reverends Darris Baker and Jimmy Drew officiating.
Music was provided by Ginger Stutts, granddaughter of Mr. McWaters and Rev. Carlton Rivers. Pallbearers were Wayne Sanders, Walt Wiggins, Ellis Hyatt, Jimmy Adams, Etsel Hornsby and Henry Rhodes. Burial was in the Centralhatchee Cemetery.
Mr. McWaters was born October 20, 1910 in Heard County, Ga. to the late Ira McWaters and Jessie Leta Sims. He was a cattleman and store owner for many years in the Centralhatchee Community of Heard County. He was a graduate of the Centralhatchee High School and the Carrollton District 4 Agricultural and Mechanical School. Mr. McWaters was a member of the Corinth United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Stewards. He also served on the Masonic Lodge #403 and the Heard County Cattlemen's Association.
Surviving are his wife, Theo Eley McWaters of Hogansville, Ga.; daughter, Patricia Gentrey of Franklin, Ga.; son, Jimmy McWaters of Hogansville, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cordelia Denney Pilon, 70, of Bethpage, Tennessee, died Sunday, December 16, 2001 at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee.
A funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Pilon was born April 18, 1931 in Troup County, daughter of the late Jack and Fannie Hyatt Denney. She lived in the Atlanta area for many years before making her home in Tennessee two years ago and was a member of the Catholic church.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce Pilon of Bethpage; two daughters, Mrs. Sherrie Rollins of Old Hickory, Tenn. and Mrs. Jeri Cooper of Fountain Inn, S.C.; two sons, Terry Pilon of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Kerry Lee Pilon of Newnan; sister, Mrs. Magdalene Fuller of Hogansville; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Jere Rufus Ridley
A memorial service was held for Mr. Jere Rufus Ridley December 13, 2001 at Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home chapel in Franklin, Ga. with the Rev. Rick McMahan officiating. Burial was in the Franklin City Cemetery.
Mr. Ridley was born in Heard County, Ga. September 23, 1943 to the late Rufus Elisha Ridley and Ima Captola Witcher Ridley. He died at his home in Franklin Dec. 11. Until his retirement he served the families of Heard County as the director of the Department of Family and Children Services. His efforts greatly enhanced the lives of all those he helped. He was one of the county's most beloved citizens and will be remembered for his kind and gentle way of caring. He was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Pattie Ridley of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; daughter, Lori Cutler of Atlanta; son, Mathew Ridley of Franklin, Ga.; sister, Phylis Newman of Morristown, Tenn.; four grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews.

Mr. William "Pete" Russell
Mr. William "Pete" Russell, 75, died December 16, 2001 at Summer Breeze on Wilmington Island, Savannah, Ga.
He is a native of Coweta County and was a longtime resident of Carrollton, Ga. before retiring to the Savannah, Ga. area in 1988. He was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and was formerly employed with Atlanta Gas Light Company for more than 20 years. He retired from the former West Georgia College, now State University of West Georgia in Carrollton, as director of plant operations.
He attended Wilmington Presbyterian Church, was a member and elder of the Carrollton Presbyterian Church, was past president of the Rotary Club of Carrollton, Ga. and was past president of the Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Bobbie M. Russell of Savannah; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Russell Mobley and Dr. Michael Charles Mobley of Savannah; sister, Elizabeth Russell Fincher of Moreland, Ga.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Mobley and Susan Colleen Mobley, both of Savannah.
A funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home chapel in Newnan. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Moreland, Ga.

Mr. Woods was born August 10, 1933 in Coweta County, Ga., son of Velma and Gus Woods. He was married to Cecil Woods and they had six children. At an early age he attended Jones Chapel United Methodist Church of Newnan.

Mr. E.T. Evans, Jr.
Mr. E.T. Evans Jr., 87, of LaGrange, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Evans was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Moreland, to the late Eugene Taylor and Belle Bowers Evans. He received a bachelor's degree from Erskine College and the University of Georgia. Mr. Evans came to the Troup County area in 1951 as the University of Georgia Extension Agent and served in that capacity until 1974. During World War II, Mr. Evans was with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he attained the rank of major.
Mr. Evans loved his community and lived a life of service. He was an active member of the LaGrange Kiwanis Club, and a charter member and organizer of the Troup County Cattlemen's Association, the Sportsmen's Club, and the Troup County Timber Growers Association. He encouraged and instructed the farming community with a weekly newspaper column and radio program, and, through his leadership, 14 community club organizations were established in the Troup County area. Mr. Evans also started the annual Harvest Street Sale.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, where he served as a deacon and elder and taught the Men's Bible Class for over 30 years. In retirement, Mr. Evans enjoyed his family, garden, and bird dogs, and helping with Meals on Wheels.
A funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange. Drs. George R. Sinclair, Jr., and William Conine will officiate, and burial will be in the Southview Cemetery in Moreland.

Mr. Charles Kelley, 64, of Greenville, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hosptial in Warm Springs.
Mr. Kelly was born Jan. 14, 1937, in Meriwether County to the late Harvey and Ada Eggleton Kelley. He was a lifelong resident of Meriwether County and was employed for 41 years as a land management technician for Mead Coated Board, Inc. He was a member of Greenville Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and an elder.

Ms. Diane M. Marciniak, 53, of Winder and formerly of Hogansville, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Northside Hosptial in Atlanta.
Ms. Marciniak was born March 30, 1948, in Charleroi, Penn. She lived in Hogansville for many years, and was a former city clerk of Hogansville. Ms. Marciniak had lived in Winder since 1997, where she owned and operated Inspection On Call, Inc. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville.

Mr. Allen was born July 22, 1932, in Chambers County, Alabama, son of the late Reed and Opal Smith Allen. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he lived in Galveston, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana for 30 years before returning to Hogansville in 1987. He retired from Callaway Gardens, attended Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville, and was a founder of the Hogansville Farmers Market.

Mr. David Joseph Carter, 20, of Newnan, died Monday, December 10, 2001 as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Mr. Carter was born in Baxley, Ga., but later moved to Newnan where he attended Newnan High School. He was blessed with an artistic talent to paint and draw. He seemed to always be drawing cartoons, painting outdoor scenes and flowers. He loved nature and had a passion for the eagle, as is indicated by his extensive collection of eagle statues and paintings.
Surviving are his parents, Richard and Sheila Eason of Newnan; a newborn daughter, Jasmin Alexis Carter and fiancee, Jayme Bennett, both of Newnan; two brothers, Richie Eason and Jeffrey Eason, both of Newnan; grandparents, Bobby and Patricia Eason of Covington, Ga. and Herman and Ruth Carter of Baxley, Ga.; and special family friends, Lawrence and Robin Proctor of Baxley, Ga.

Mr. Richard Lee Smith Jr., 71, formerly of 280 Ira Smith Road, Carrollton, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at Carrollton Nursing and Rehab.
He was born January 19, 1930 in Carroll County to the late Richard Lee Smith Sr. and Dollie DeeCuba Hanson Smith. He was an Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, and retired from the General Food Corporation. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Folds and Catherine Gaddy.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Barry D. and Suzannah Smith and Greg Smith, all of Lawrenceville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jenelle & W. T. Smith of Carrollton and Shirley and Bobby Gooding of Palmetto; two grandchildren, Marissa and Bonnie Smith; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with the Rev. Kevin Quiles officiating.
Pallbearers will be Keith Smith, Donald Folds, Rodney Brock, Hamp Burham, Denver Smith and Doug Callahan. Burial will be in the Temperance Methodist Church Cemetery with the flag presentation by American Legion Post 143.

Mrs. Elva "Berg" Deshon, 92, of Grantville, Ga., died Monday, December 10, 2001 at her residence.
Mrs. Deshon was born July 13, 1909 in Pittsburgh, Penn. She was a homemaker.

Mr. Alfonsus Pynenburg Jr., 64, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, December 9, 2001 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Jimmie Chapman will officiate.
Mr. Pynenburg was born Sept. 22, 1937 in Holland, son of the late Alfonsus Andreaus Maria Pijnenburg and the late Josephine Henrika Pijnenburg.
A resident of the west Georgia area for 34 years, he was a retired golf course superintendent, was a former Boy Scout leader, and was a member of the Catholic church.
Surviving are his wife, Edna M. Mr. Coleman was born July 18, 1946, second child to the late Mr. William "Bill" Coleman and the late Mrs. Mattie Mae (Coleman) McKeever in Coweta County. Both prededed him in death. He received his education in the Coweta County School System. At an early age he joined Wesley Chapel AME Church in Madras, Ga. Later he attended St. John Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Beasley Coleman; step-father, Mr. Edward McKeever; step-daughter, Tutitia Barnes; special niece, Ashley Beasley; two sisters, Brenda Ann McKeever, Cherry D. McKeever; five brothers, Leroy Coleman, Johnny W. Young Mr. Mike Tondre, 14, of Jonesboro, Ga., died December 8, 2001.
He was born May 17, 1987 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of the American Legion SAL, an avid NASCAR fan and attended Union Grove Middle School.

Mrs. Betty Lou Hendrix Wynn, 67, of Lovvorn Road, Carrollton, died Friday, December 7, 2001.
Mrs. Wynn was a native of Carroll County, born March 28, 1934, daughter of the late Monroe Hendrix and Minnie Tuggle Hendrix. She had worked as a seamstress with Hubbard Company for 38 years. She was a member of the New Vision Baptist Church and attended the Adult Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Randy Charles and Kathy Wynn, Carrollton; daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnne and John Timothy Phillips, Whitesburg, Joy Lynn and Gary Williams, Moreland; brother, Island Hendrix, Carrollton; sisters, Leitha Wallis, Carrollton, Grace Duncan, LaGrange and Burda Carter, Indiana; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral was being held Monday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. at New Vision Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Hobbs officiating. Music was being furnished by Dawn Jacobs. The body was to lie in state from 3 p.m. until the funeral hour.
The family was receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. William C. Eady, 74, of North Pole, Alaska, and formerly of Newnan, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001.
Mr. Eady was a Newnan native and long time resident before moving to Alaska.

Mr. Gary Ferguson
Mr. Gary Ferguson, 61, of Newnan, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001.
Mr. Ferguson, a former Navy fighter pilot and a Vietnam veteran, recently retired as a captain from Continental Airlines after a 32 year career. He was involved with his community as a volunteer and a member of the board of directors of the Newnan House. He was also an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
A celebration of Mr. Ferguson's life will be held at "the barn", 868 Happy Valley Circle, on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the celebration.

Mrs. Carrie Ozmore Hemrick, 90, of Newnan, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Randolph Medical Center.
Mrs. Hemrick was born June 1, 1911, in Coweta County. A retired textile worker for Bibb, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. The Revs. Bill Dean and D.L. Moody will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Hemrick's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m.

William Trinton Lee Richardson, age four months, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Infant Richardson was born July 23, 2001, in LaGrange, to Jonathan and Leesa Richardson.
