Henry Grady Rigdon, 75, of Brunswick died Friday at Memorial Hospital in Savannah of injuries received in an auto accident. Arrangements will be announced by Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

Walter G. Mock Sr., 81, of Brunswick died Friday at Shands Hospice in Jacksonville, Fla. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Brunswick with the Revs. James E. Crandall and John Connell officiating. Burial with Masonic rites.

Milton Lewis Fogarty, 63, of Waynesville died Nov. 4 at his residence. A memorial service was held Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Cletus Pifher officiating. Surviving are his wife, Shirley L. Fogarty; a nephew.

Clyde Miller Aiken Jr., 78, of St. Simons Island died Thursday at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Dell officiating.

Gordon Irving Scott, 71, of St. Simons Island died Thursday at his home. There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ Church Frederica with the Revs. Curtis Mears and William Littleton officiating.

Robert Stevens
Robert L. Stevens of Brunswick died Aug. 11, 2005 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Folkston.
Mr. Stevens was a graduate of Risley High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Band of Inspiration Deliverance Temple with Pastor Iris Wright and the Rev. Harold Gamble officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Al Patterson, Reginald Stevens, Charles Stevens, Henry Stevens Jr., Will Friend and Rodney Jackson.
Mr. Stevens' body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Survivors include one daughter, Kadera Perry of Jacksonville; his mother, Annie Ruth Stevens of Brunswick; four sisters, Henrietta Piland of Fredericksburg, Va., Patricia Tolliver of Jacksonville and Gloria Simmons and Diane Stevens, both of Brunswick; three brothers, Henry Stevens Jr., Charles Stevens and Reginald Stevens, all of Brunswick; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
Collins' Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Hall

Mary Ellen McDougall Hall, 78, of Brunswick died Thursday at her daughter's home in Hinesville.
Mrs. Hall was an emeritus member and past Marshal of the Marshes of Glynn Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 243 in Brunswick and a member of the Woman's Club of Brunswick, having served as the art department chair on the local and district levels. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick. Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Thomas Hall Jr.
The funeral will be held at noon Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick with the Rev. Greg Garis and the Rev. Dr. Tom Mueller officiating.
Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville.
Pallbearers will be Tom Hall, Bo Dyess, Travis Beasley, Larry Bryant and Robert Osborne.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Marshes of Glynn Order of the Eastern Star No. 243 and the Woman's Club of Brunswick.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel in Hinesville.
Survivors include a son, Albert Thomas Hall III of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Sharon Dyess of Hinesville; and three grandchildren.

Marcia Jackson

Marcia Lynn Gratz Jackson, 43, a resident of Brunswick, died Thursday in Lake City, Fla., from injuries in an automobile accident.
Marcia was a native of Illinois and had been a resident of Brunswick since 1996. She was a graduate of Spring Stead High School in Spring Hill, Fla., and had been employed with Nightingale Law Firm and a legal secretary for eight years.
Survivors are her son, Joshua Jackson of Brunswick; mother, Elenor Gratz of Brooksville, Fla.; two sisters, Linda Gelling of New Port Richey, Fla., and Lucy Hobbs of Brooksville, Fla.; a brother, Gary Gratz of Nashua, N.H.; her fiancé, Kit Mashburn; eight nieces and nephews, and seven great nieces and nephews.
A memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Evangelist Roy Bumbash and Priest Bill Costa officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and requests contributions to the Joshua Jackson Fund, c/o Oglethorpe Bank, 3344 Cypress Mill Rd., Brunswick, Ga., 31520.

Edward 'Rip' Benton

Edward "Rip" Benton of St. Simons Island succumbed to cancer on Monday, August 5 at the Hospice of the Golden Isles.
Services will be Friday, August 9 at 10 a.m. at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick with the Rev. J. Hunter Coleman of the First Presbyterian Church, Highlands, N.C., officiating. Burial will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 8 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Benton, Michael Benton, Roman Chanclor, John Barrow, Dan Goad, Frank Grashuis, Mel Bellwood and Allan Schultz.
Honorary pallbearers are Cephus Walker, Toby Perkins, Donnie Benton, Paul Stocker, Robert Armstrong, Michael Anderson and Dr. William E. Haley.
Rip is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Kim Stocker of Northampton, Pa., Stephen Benton of St. Simons Island, Kathy Rafolski of Asheville, N.C., and Michael Benton of Mt. Olive, N.C.; a brother, S.D. "Donnie" Benton of Brunswick; and grandchildren, Dallas and Roman Chanclor of Northampton, Amy Benton of Chesapeake, Va., and Mitchell Benton of Brunswick.
Rip was born in Smyrna, Ga., on April 13, 1935, to Bessie Ivy Hudson and Sydney Lovelace Benton. The family moved to St. Simons Island in 1948. Rip attended Glynn Academy and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He served in the Georgia Air National Guard while employed by Southern Bell for a number of years.
Rip became well known as a restaurateur and was involved in the hospitality industry and historical restoration/preservation. In this capacity, he established and operated Blanche's Courtyard Restaurant from 1974 until 2000. He also restored and operated the Old Edwards Inn and the Highlands Inn in Highlands, and most recently The Hedges, an Adirondack Great Camp in Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y.
Rip was baptized in the First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island.
Special appreciation and thanks are offered to the dedicated men and women of Coastal Cardiology, Southeast Georgia Hematology and Oncology Associates and Hospice of the Golden Isles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Spencer Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Palmetto Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Marty Morris, Theron McCarthy, Paul Calloway, Mark Spikes, Jonathan Hutchinson and Brian Mobley.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1040, Brunswick, GA 31521.
Surviving are her husband, Timothy Spikes of Brunswick; a son, Timothy Elijah Spikes of Brunswick; a daughter, Korrie Lee Spikes of Brunswick; father, Kendall David James of Brunswick; and grandparents, Kendall and Willene James of Brunswick.
Mrs. Spikes was a native of Glynn County and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Geneva McCall Verdery, 96, of St. Simons Island died Tuesday at the Brian Center Inn.
Cryptside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Westview Cemetery Mausoleum in Atlanta with the Rev. John Joseph Porter officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church, Frederica, 6329 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.
Surviving are two daughters, Marion Verdery Collins of St. Simons Island and Katherine Verdery Carley of Belleair, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Verdery had lived on St. Simons Island for five years. She was a member of the Peachtree Road Methodist Church in Atlanta.

Darrell Chapman

Darrell L. Chapman of Brunswick died Sunday at the Hospice of the Golden Isles.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Johnson officiating.

Surviving are a son, Derrick Chapman; two brothers, Collis Wells Jr. and Wayne Wells; a sister, Deanell Chapman; several aunts, uncles and nieces; and other family.

Mr. Chapman was a native of Glynn County and educated in the public school system.

Brunswick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ella Atkinson

Ella Louise Harris Atkinson, 94, of Brunswick died Oct. 7 at the local hospital.

The graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Amuzie officiating.

Pallbearers will be members of the Dixville family.

Honorary pallbearers will be men of the church.

Surviving are a son, Oscar Thomas of Brunswick; a daughter, Gloria Fraley Jordan of South Carolina; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces; and a nephew.

A native of Glynn County, Mrs. Atkinson was a retired beautician and a member of St. Athanasius Episcopal Church.

Hall, Jones and Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles D. Reynolds, 56, of St. Simons Island died Monday at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church on St. Simons Island with the Rev. Tim Steffen officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Wesley United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church,Building Fund, P.O. Box 20302, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda L. Reynolds of St. Simons Island; a son, Charles Scott (wife Angie) Reynolds of St. Simons Island; a daughter, Valerie Lynn (Husband Scott) Johnson of St. Simons Island; two brothers, Carroll Reynolds of East Alton, Ill. and Dale Reynolds of Dallas, Tex; two sisters, Shirley Pennock of Millstadt, Ill. and Joyce McCoy of Dallas, Tex.; four grandchildren, Emily Grace Reynolds, William Charles Johnson, Jenna Lee Johnson and Charles Everett Reynolds, all of St. Simons Island.

Mr. Reynolds was a native of Arkansas and served in the U.S. Air Force. He had made his home on St. Simons Island since 1986, moving from Wood River, Illinois. Mr. Reynolds owned and operated Island Automotive. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
