Mary Ezzell Miedema, 94, died Thursday, April 20, 2006.
Born in Tallahassee, Fla., she was a daughter of the late John Frank and Mary Harman Ezzell.
She is survived by her husband, James F. "Jim" Miedema, former pastor and educator, of Blackshear, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and James H. Wagnon of Van Buren, Ark.; and godchildren, Diane and A.J. Strickland of Patterson.
She served quietly but efficiently in educational organization and as curriculum specialist in churches her husband pastored: First Baptist Church of Terra Ceia, Fla., Dice Baptist Church of Weatherford, Texas, First Baptist Church of Greenacres, Fla., Haverhill Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, Fla., Norwich Street Baptist Church of Brunswick and Interim Pastor – Life Tabernacle of Lake Worth, Fla. Mary was employed by the prominent law firm of Hamilton, James, Merkle and Young for several years before her retirement. She has been a blessing to all the lives she touched and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Miedema will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at the Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home chapel.
Interment will be in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Miedema will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Merrill Roscoe Jr.

Merrill W. Roscoe Jr., 73, of Darien died Friday at the Hospice of the Golden Isles.
A native of Geneva, Ill., Mr. Roscoe served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was formerly associated with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. Mr. Roscoe had been a Spanish instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center from 1997 until earlier this year. He was a member of the American Legion and was a life member of the Masons.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Cynthia Corey and Woody Choate officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Survivors include his wife, Ann M. Roscoe of Darien; two daughters, Denise Heinson and Renee Roscoe Morrison, both of Naperville, Ill.; stepmother, Annaliese Roscoe of East Moline, Ill.; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.

Geraldine "Gerry" Miles Gardner, 84, died Tuesday morning, May 2, 2006, at her residence following a short illness.
A native of Thomas County, she was the youngest daughter of the late George W. and Ada Mae Branch Miles, and moved with her family at an early age to Blackshear where her father was engaged in the turpentine business.
Mrs. Gardner and her husband have been members of the Patterson Baptist Church since May of 1959, serving in church and Sunday School work.
Survivors are her husband, Joseph W. Gardner of Patterson; three children, Linda Leah Gardner Cordell of St. Simons Island, Gerald Warren Gardner and wife, Missy, and Joseph Eric Gardner and wife, Annette, all of Patterson. There are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of which she was very proud. Mrs. Gardner is also survived by two sisters, Waunell Miles Strickland of Mershon and Bertie Belle Miles of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral service for Mrs. Gardner will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006, at the Patterson Baptist Church.
Interment will be in the Patterson Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Gardner will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gardner will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Members of the Joy Sunday School Class and the Ladies of Patterson Baptist Church are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 10:30 Saturday morning.

Mr. Claude Baxter "Captain Crunch" Sawyer, 45, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at his residence in Darien.
A native of Darien, Mr. Sawyer was an employee of Valona Seafood and worked as a commercial fisherman.
Family members include a loving companion, Teri Zorn of Darien; his parents, Reginald and Betty Sawyer of Valona, Ga.; three children, Carlton Sawyer, Kyle Sawyer and Amanda Shields, all of Darien; one sister, Jimmie Ann Horne (Dale) of Ludowici, Ga.; and four brothers, Reggie Sawyer (Barbara) of Darien, Ga., Michael Sawyer of Redding, Calif., Tony Sawyer (Connie) of Apalachicola, Fla., and Forrest Sawyer (Angie) of Brunswick, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 15, 2006, from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2006, at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home Chapel.

Roy Lee Baker, 61, of Kingsland died Thursday at the Brunswick hospital of the Southeast Georgia Health System.
A native of Kingsland, Mr. Baker was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church where he became an ordained minister. He later joined the St. Marys Church of Christ. Mr. Baker was educated in the Camden County school system before graduating from Edward Waters College with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. He was also a member of the local chapter of the NAACP and SCLC. He was a lab technician at Thiokol Corp. and president of the Chemical Workers Union 832 during his employment there. He was also the representative for Union 218 in Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsland, with the Rev. Leon Washington officiating.
His nephew will serve as pallbearer.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Ralph Bunch High school class of 1963, and members of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
Survivors include his children, Juan Johnson of Kingsland, Jamie Rayford of Houston, Texas, Dundee Dilworth, Tannah Woods and Robert Mack Baker III, all of Kingsland; five sisters, Mayme Jeffrys, Ellen Waye, Sylvania Dawson, Pearl Coleman and Vivian Walker; five brothers, Robert Baker Jr., Peter J. Baker, James Earl Baker, Amos Jerome Baker and Vernando Baker; one uncle, Osby Jackson; one aunt, Pearlie Holzendorf; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

William Singletary

William "Mark" Singletary, 42, of Waynesville died Tuesday at his residence.
Born in Fernandina Beach, Fla., the son of Harold L. Singletary and Lamerle Wise Singletary Patrick, both of Brunswick, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was of the Church of God faith and had worked for the city of Brunswick before becoming disabled.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Chambless-Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Daniels, Josh Daniels, Adam Daniels, Shawn King and T.J. Cady.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Chambless-Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta.
Survivors include his wife, Carla Singletary of Waynesville; his mother, Lamerle Wise Patrick of Brunswick; two brothers, Harold Lloyd Singletary Jr. of Virginia and Carl Singletary of Brunswick; two daughters, Linda Middaugh and Cathy Ann King, both of Waynesville; two sons, Christopher Singletary of Brunswick and William Mark Singletary Jr. of Waynesville; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Doris Ruden Harris, 76, died Thursday at her residence.
Mrs. Harris was a lifelong resident of Glynn County. She was educated in the Glynn County school system and worked at various jobs, with her last employment being as a domestic technician. She was a member of First Jordan Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband, Bernard L. Harris; a son, Robert Leon Chambliss Sr. of Brunswick; four sisters, Pauline Young of Brunswick, Elizabeth Ervin of Morganton, N.C., Ruthie Mae Carto of Eatontown, N.J., and Vernel Walker of Middletown, N.J.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at R.L. Jones and Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Jordan Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. T.L. Davis officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Memory Garden and the procession will leave from 308 Buck Trace.

Gene Elridge Thomas, 54, of Waynesville died Friday at the Brunswick hospital of the Southeast Georgia Health System.
Born in Glynn County, he was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church in Summerville. He was a retired occupational therapist technician and was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 338 in Lylery, the Georgia Auctioneers Organization, Rome Exchange Club and the Stockcar Flagmen Association.
Funeral services were to have been held Monday at the Nahunta First Baptist Church with the Revs. Randy Carson and Alton Stamey officiating.
Interment will follow at the family plot at Smyrna Cemetery with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers were to be Justin Dykes, Matthew Dykes, Chris Dykes, Daniel Thomas, Harry Crews and Howard Cothren.
Survivors include his father, L.E. Thomas, of Waynesville; five children, Rachel Thomas Puryear of Rome, Christopher Thomas, Ryan Thomas and Adam Thomas, all of Augusta, and Lindsey Thomas of Rome; three grandchildren; six sisters, Doris Keenan of Slidell, La., Gail Ray of Hortense, Janice Kirkland of Moultrie, Linda Dykes of Nahunta, Lori Cothren of Waynesville and Darlene McWhorter of Hortense; a brother, Casey Brown of Thallman; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lynn Harden Day, 44, of Kingsland died Monday at her residence.
Born in Honolulu and raised in Charleston, S.C., she had resided in Camden County for the past 16 years. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and was a homemaker of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Deacon Richard Jackson officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff Day of Kingsland; two daughters, Diana Screws and Danielle Day, both of Kingsland; two sons, Jeffery Day Jr. and Justin Day, both of Kingsland; parents, Bob and Dee Harden of St. Marys; a sister, Brenda Harden of Woodbine; a brother, Vaughn Loeffler of Ridgewood, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys presided over the arrangements.
