Vivian Marcella Wilde Jones, 87, a longtime resident of Temple Terrace, Fla., passed away in Brunswick on October 25, 2002, after an extended illness.
She was born in Terlton, Okla., into a pioneer "Sooner" family and was descended from the Durhams, who founded the city of the same name in North Carolina. She attended public schools in Bristow, Okla., and received her education degree at age 20 from State College in Edmond, Okla., and her M.A. in Florida. While teaching in Claremore, Okla., she married James G. Jones from Miami and embarked on a long adventure as a dedicated Navy wife, mother, teacher and ardent baseball mom.
The Jones' were charter members of Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, choir member and in many other leadership roles. Her lifelong passion for empowering children spanned over 40 years as teacher and mentor. She led students to noble service in education, medicine, ministry, law, the military and homemaking and rejoiced at their commitment to family and community.
Upon retirement from Hillsborough County Schools in 1976, "Miss Vivian" became a role model for volunteer service, first with "Meals on Wheels," and then logging a record of over 23,000 volunteer hours at the University Community Hospital as ICU, CCU and CSU attendant and LifeLine advocate/installer.
Her daughter, Janis Slade of Brunswick; son, Charles Jones of St. Petersburg, Fla.; granddaughters, Kimberly and Christa Jones of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and many nephews and nieces survive her.
A memorial service will be held at Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church, 420 Bullard Parkway, Temple Terrace, Fla., on Saturday, December 7, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Charlene Heaton officiating. A reception will follow in the church social hall.
Her family suggests that any memorial donations might be made to LifePath Hospice in Tampa; the Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525; or the University Community Hospital Foundation in her name.

William Foreman

William "Bill" Lewis Foreman, 58, formerly of Brunswick, died April 24, 2006, in Spring Valley, Calif.
Mr. Foreman was born in Valdosta. He attended elementary school in Glynn County and graduated from Ralph J. Bunch High School in Camden County. He relocated to California and was employed as a construction worker. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Band of Inspiration Deliverance Temple with Bishop Harry Brown officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
The procession will leave from 765 Chapel Crossing Road.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brunswick Funeral Home.
Survivors include his brother, Larry Donell Foreman of Brunswick; and other relatives.
Marion Tapley

Marion F. Tapley, 89, of Brunswick died Sunday at the local hospital.
Mr. Tapley was a native of Wayne County and had lived in Southeast Georgia all of his life. He was retired from Gilman Paper Co. Mr. Tapley was preceded in death by his first wife, Iris Tapley.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel in Waycross.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta Brewer of Brunswick; two sons, Quinton Tapley of Waterloo, S.C., and Kenneth Tapley of Jacksonville; two stepchildren, Jacqueline Tyre of Guyton and Roy J. Brewer of Fort White, Fla.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Levy Harper, 87, of Woodbine died Monday at his residence.
A native of Woodbine, he was a member of Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Gilman Bag Co. after 32 years of service.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Banks officiating.
Pallbearers will be friends and deacons of the church.
Survivors include a sister, Robbie Lee Jiles of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Harvey J. Harper of Jacksonville; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Donald "Laverne" Highsmith Jr., 34, of Nahunta died Monday at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
Mr. Highsmith was a native of Chatham County. He worked in construction, roofing and painting and attended the Raybon Advent Christian Church.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Raybon Advent Christian Church with the Revs. Hilton Morgan and Paul Rhoden officiating.
Burial will follow in Rob Lewis Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Coy Brooker, Andy Davis, Jeff Crews, Matt Gurley, Jesse Lee Horton, Dale Walker, Shane Whitford and Larry Groover.

Eugene Doyle, 78, of St. Simons Island died Sunday at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Liam Collins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Youth and Children's Fund of St. Mark's Episcopal Church or the Hospice of The Golden Isles.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Doyle of St. Simons Island; a son, Eugene F. Doyle Jr. of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Jennifer Winn of Atlanta and Gayle Coole of Newburgh, Ind.; a brother, Robert Doyle of New York City; a sister, Geraldine Heuback of North Port, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.
Mr. Doyle, a native of Palm Beach, Fla., was reared in New York City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II as a pilot aboard the U.S.S. Baatan. Mr. Doyle had worked with the Orkin Exterminating Co. and Rich's Department Store and was later self-employed in the furniture industry. He was founder of the Local Bread Crumb Trail. Mr. Doyle was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

Thomas Russell Easton, 94, of St. Simons Island died Tuesday morning at Magnolia Manor Health Care.
A native of Galashields, Scotland, he had lived on St. Simons Island for the past five years, coming from Corvallis, Ore. He owned and operated orchid nurseries where he grew and developed new varieties of orchids in Florida, California and Oregon.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his son and daughter in-law, Ian and Debbie Easton of Brunswick; three grandchildren, John Easton and Jill Lindberger, both of Jacksonville, and Jill Moser of Brunswick; and one great-grandchild, Preston Lindberger.

Maxine Griner Lee, 62, of Jesup died Friday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.
A native of Pierce County, she was a member of the Flint Branch Baptist Church in Jesup and a homemaker who loved both her family and church family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lamar Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Chambless-Frye Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Cecil Bush and Tommy Kelly officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Hortense Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Davon Beepath, Darrell Beasley, Floyd Holt, Larry Knight, Gerald Schultz and Chris Bush.

Mrs. Virginia A. Bryan, 93, of LaGrange and formerly of Brunswick passed away Saturday, July 1, 2006, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Mrs. Bryan was born March 11, 1913, in Carrollton. Mrs. Bryan was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in LaGrange and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brunswick. She was retired from the Brunswick Housing Authority and was the owner of the Pig's Whistle BBQ in Brunswick. Mrs. Bryan was a active member of the Brunswick Women's Club and was an avid bridge player and golfer.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Virginia Henderson of LaGrange and JoAnne Spruill of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Elaine Bryan of Canton; grandchildren, Jim Henderson, Bryan Henderson, Molly Gamblin, Ashley Reed, Ginny Skipper, Rob Bryan, Kim McEntire, Jason Bryan and Amy Wilbanks; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death her husband, Jim B. Bryan Jr. and a son, retired Col. Jim B. Bryan III.
The funeral services for Mrs. Virginia A. Bryan were held Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Father Selva Raj officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Macon.

Cleo Park Ammons, 90, of Brunswick died Saturday at Hospice of the Golden Isles.
A native of Indian River, Fla., she had resided in Glynn County for the past 50 years, was a member of the First Church of the Nazerene, and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis M. Ammons, and daughter, Daphne Ammons.
Survivors include a son, Lamar Ammons of Brunswick; four grandchildren, David Hires, Jimmy Hires, Czin Browning and Fyre Browning; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Hires, Bailey Hires, Evan Christmas, Czadrian Browning; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chapman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Hundley officiating. Interment to follow at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Hires, Jammy Hires, Czin Browning, Michael Hires, Robert Wallace and Adolph Hires.
