CORDELE - Funeral services for A. C. “Shorty” Bailey, 88, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The Rev. Kenneth Murphy and the Rev. Ansley Jordan officiated.
Marcene Freeman, pianist, played soft music. She accompanied the Rev. Royce Freeman and herself as they sang “One Day At A Time” and “What Will I Leave Behind?”.
Pallbearers were members of the Cordele Fire Department, Chief Eugene Stephens, Capt. Gus Telfair, Capt. Eddie Stubbs, Lt. Coley Britt, and Insp. Frank Bullington, Jr.
Mr. Bailey was laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. He was carried there on one of the Cordele Fire Department’s Fire Units that was in operation during the time he served as Fire Chief.
-- Seaman Recruit Quinton LaRue Ridley, 19, of Cordele, died on Saturday, April 9, 2005 from the Naval Medical Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by J.W. Williams Funeral Home of Cordele. The family will receive friends at the home of 1001 11th Street South in Cordele.
Russ Harris Jones
CORDELE -- Memorial services for Russ Harris Jones, 83, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Christ Episcopal Church.
Mr. Jones died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at his residence.
A native of Crisp County, he was a retired pharmacist and member of Christ Episcopal Church. He volunteered for the Crisp Regional Hospital Auxiliary for many years and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy M. Jones of Cordele; two sons, Dr. Edd Jones of Fitzgerald, and Guy M. Jones of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Nancy J. Dupree of Red Hill, Ala.; a sister, Fran Beamer of Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

ASHBURN -- Funeral services for Edna Kennedy Ward, 79, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Ward died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, in the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon from injuries sustained in an automobile crash.

ASHBURN -- Funeral services for Estele S. Guy, 78, of Ashburn will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2 2004 at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Tift County. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Guy passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness.

Debra Onita Kendrick Adams
UNADILLA -- Funeral services for Debra Onita Kendrick Adams of Unadilla will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the Little Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Byromville. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Montezuma. Rev. Lee Willie Hall will officiate.
Ms. Adams died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at her residence. She attended Dooly County Schools and was previously employed at Lanier Manufacturing Company.
Survivors include her husband, John Adams, a daughter, Onita C. Adams, her mother, Constance Spicer Kendrick, a brother, Johnny Pate Kendrick, Jr (wife, Cynthia) all of Unadilla, a sister, Beverly D. Hunt (husband, David) of Philadelphia, Pa., Mother-in-law, Catherine Lewis of Byromville, and a host of relatives.

Alexia Shamiyah Merrell, age 6 of Vienna, died Friday, Oct. 29 at the Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.

Catherine R. ‘Katie’ Allen
CORDELE - Catherine R. “Katie” Allen, 72, of Cordele died in Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany on Monday, Nov. 1, 2004.
Born Saturday, March 26, 1932, in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Albert Massey and Jane Isabell O'Neil Massey. Mrs. Allen was a member of Cordele First Baptist Church and was retired as manager of Burger King. She was an Elder of the Chippewa Indian Tribe in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at Cordele First Baptist Church Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at 3 p.m. and interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Hoover Allen of Cordele; two sons and daughters-in-law, John S. and Monica Allen, and Mark and Nannette Allen of Cordele; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Bobby McGinnis of Cordele; four brothers, Albert Massey of Austin, Texas, Buck Massey of Engadine, Mich., Robert Massey of Phoenix, Ariz., and John Massey of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich.; three sisters, Verna Lawrence of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., and Mary Formolo and Evie Heldt both of Naubinway, Mich. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Robert Allen.

John W. Wright
PERRY - John W. Wright, 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004.
Funeral services wil be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Watson-Hunt Chapel with interment following at Perry Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wright was the son of the late Jasper and Jurrell (Walls) Wright. He was born in Greene County where he attended school and Walker Methodist Church. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, he worked for the FBI for several years before joining the Georgia State Patrol in 1960. Survivors include his wife, Janette Moon Wright; daughters, Sarah Wright (Glen) Musselwhite of Warner Robins, and Yvonne Wright Williams of Cordele; sons, John Christopher Wright of Greensboro, and Joseph Thomas (Sherry) Wright of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Wendy Musselwhite (Ben) Purvis of Perry, Sarah Elizabeth Williams of Athens, Mary Jeff Williams (Lance) Richards of Cordele, and Cody Wright of Warner Robins; step-children, Walt (Teddie) Lay of Conyers, Terry Lay Murphy of Snellville, and Jimmy Lay of Atlanta; and great-grandchildren, Bristol Purvis of Perry, and Alex Miller of Covington.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Sarah Mullins Wright; and a grandson, Brian Musselwhite.

Graveside services will be held at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Crisp County at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2004.
She is survived by her husband, William Baker Wilkinson of Cordele; two sons, Nicholas Wilkinson and Zachery Wilkinson both of Cordele; her father, Richard Auther Bishop of Cordele; three step-sons, Billy Wilkinson, Jeffrey Wilkinson and Corbin Wilkinson all of Dearborn Heights, Mich; a step-daughter, Dawn Keen of Cordele; two brothers, Tommy Bishop of Americus, and Ricky Bishop of Cordele; three sisters, Sherry Handley of Cordele, Carol Wade of Warwick, and Terry Millien of Gonzales, La.; her paternal grandmother, Melzena Gordan of Gonzales, La.; and her mother-in-law, Joann Wilkinson of Cordele.

Mrs. Clark, a native of Wilcox County, was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Dooly County. She was the daughter of the late Julius Jefferson Watson and the late Saluda Estelle Mitchell Watson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Monroe Clark; a brother, Roscoe Watson; and two sisters, Christine Goodwin and Inez Powell.

She was born Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1945 in Smithville and was the daughter of the late Earl Stinson and Annie Lou Usry Stinson.

Wynelle Adkins, pianist, accompanied the congregation as they sang “Victory In Jesus” and Rev. Howell sang “The Anchor Holds” and “I’m Drinking From My Saucer.” Others taking part in the song service were Faye Newton, “The First Day In Heaven"; Tim Perry, “Please Save My Children", “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “The Lilly In My Valley"; Rev. CORDELE - Vera C. McKinney, 75, of Cordele died at her residence Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. She was born Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1929, in Seville and was the daughter of the late Miles McCoy Crumbley and Mattie Mae Dowdy Crumbley. She was the widow of Charles Thomas “Bo” McKinney.
Mrs. McKinney was a homemaker and a life-long member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Susan McKinney and Lonnie and Sandra McKinney, all of Cordele; a brother, Bennett Crumbley of Seville; two sisters, Jean C. WARWICK - Funeral services for G. B. Moore were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Warwick First Baptist Church. The Rev. Kevin Moore, the Rev. Deryl Odom and the Rev.
