Earl Clarence Bradley Jr.
EASTLAND, Texas - Earl Clarence Bradley Jr., 80, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in Eastland Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb.11, 1924, in Houston, Texas, to Louise and Earl C. Bradley Sr. He attended Texas A&M University until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the outbreak of World War II. Upon his return, he earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and government from the University of Houston, but in his heart he was always an Aggie. During this time, he met the love of his life, Billye Bankston. They were married on June 4, 1948. He lived the American Dream. After many years at Tyler Pipe and Foundry, he started his own business in 1964, Earl Bradley and Associates, his associates being his wife and four children. EBAA Iron has grown from a one man operation in Frisco, Texas, to employing more than 400 people in three foundries located in Eastland and Albany, Texas, and Cordele, Georgia. He was a Mason, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Eastland Hospital Board, the American Water Works Association and the American Foundry Society, receiving the AFS Freedom Founders Award. Greatly blessed, he never forgot from whom his blessings came. He was generous to his community and beyond, being instrumental in the preservation of the Majestic Theatre and the building of a new emergency room for the Eastland Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Billye Bankston Bradley; a sister, Ann B. Lorino of Houston; a cousin, Raymond Leslie Bradley of Houston; his four children and their spouses, all of Eastland, Leslie and Jim Keffer, E.T. and Maria Bradley, Jenni and Taylor Ford, and Jeff and Vicki Bradley; and six grandchildren, Brad, Chris, and Rob Keffer, Gene Bradley, Madison and Miles Bradley.
Visitation will be at Edwards Funeral Home today, Jan. 9 from 2-4 p.m.
A private burial will be held at 10 Shy, the family ranch. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, Jan. 13 at the Majestic Theatre in Eastland at 2 p.m. under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eastland Memorial Hospital.

Lossie Lee Parker

Mr. Parker died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, in Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus.
A native of Palm Beach, Fla., he was a landscaper.

Horace Earl Cuffie
WARWICK - Funeral services for Horace Earl Cuffie, 52, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Farmer’s Market Road. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Cuffie died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in a local hospital.
A native of Crisp County, he worked in agriculture.

William Richard Hammonds
LEBANON, Ohio - Graveside services with full military honors were held Jan. 4, 2005, at Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio, for William Richard Hammonds, a former resident of Cordele.
Mr. Hammonds, 61, died Jan. 1, 2005, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Rebecca, he was the son of Mrytle Davis Hammonds and the late Shirley Hammonds. He was retired from the United States Army and most recently, Proctor and Gamble.
Mr. Hammonds is survived by his wife, Ava Hammonds of Lebanon, Ohio; his children, Joy Hammonds of Lebanon, and Jerry Hammonds of Chicago, Ill.; a granddaughter, Crystal Hammonds of Lebanon; his mother, Myrtle Hammonds of Cordele; and his sisters, Betty Jean Nipper and Brenda Hammonds both of Cordele, and Estelle French of Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest T. Hammonds.
Doris Hawke McKinnon
MONTEZUMA - Funeral services for Doris Hawke McKinnon, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in Cedar Valley Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Felton Cemetery. The Revs. Daniel Burnette, Troy Fripp and Michael Truitt will officiate the services.
Mrs. McKinnon died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005.
Born on May 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Stewart Preston Hawke and Ida Jane Martin Hawke. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Cedar Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Earl McKinnon, and a son, Larry Suggs.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet McKinnon, and her friend, Jimmy Collins of Montezuma; a brother, Douglas Hawk of Montezuma; sisters, Jeanette Borum of Unadilla, and Joyce Robbins of Oglethorpe; two grandchildren, Crystal Cromer Richards and Brian Richards; three great-grandchildren, Cassandra Richards, Allen McChargue and Allison McChargue; and several nieces and nephews.

CORDELE - Gladys Goodman Lewis, 83, of Cordele, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in Crisp Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be today, Jan. 16, 2005, at 3 p.m. in Penia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lewis was a native of Crisp County, a resident of Blackshear Villas and member of Penia Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Clinton Lewis. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ady Carlton and Mary Ester Goodman, and brothers, William R. Goodman and Earl Goodman.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and June Lewis of Cumming; her daughter and son-in-law, Gwen L. and Jerry Bush of Pinehurst; four grandchildren, Jason Lewis, Blake Lewis, Lee Bush and Jennifer (Brandon) York; a great-granddaughter, Seaver York; and her sister, Leola Walls of Cordele.

Alvin M. McDuffie, Jr.
ROCHELLE - Alvin M. McDuffie, Jr., 75, of Rochelle, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Pineview Health Care Nursing Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17 at Christian Hill Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmy McDuffie will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. McDuffie was born on August 14, 1929 in Wilcox County. He was the son of the late Alvin M. McDuffie and Ethel Adams McDuffie. He was retired from civil service from Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of Christian Hill Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Rochelle Masonic Lodge #190, where he received his 50 year membership pin in 2004. He was a Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by a son, Al McDuffie, in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Nell McDuffie of Rochelle; one son, Steve McDuffie of Rochelle; one daughter, Nancy (Robert,Jr.) Graham Of Abbeville; one brother, Rev. Jimmy McDuffie of Ocilla; one sister, Mary Frances Brown of Abbeville, and four grandchildren.

Mary Smith Brown
CORDELE – Mary Smith Brown of Cordele, died at Wesley Woods Budd Terrace in Atlanta on Thursday, January 13, 2005.
Born Tuesday, April 10, 1923 in Ocilla, she was the daughter of the late James Colin and Mamie Huff Smith and the widow of Marcus Courtney Brown. She was a graduate of Georgia College at Milledgeville where she received a BS Degree in Business Administration. Mrs. Brown was the Crisp County Director (RET) of the Georgia Department of Family and Childrens Service where she was employed for 34 years. She also served on the Advisory Board after her retirement. She was a member of Cordele First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be held at Cordele First United Methodist Church Sunday, January 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. She is survived by three sisters, Virginia Boland of Decatur, her twin sister and her husband, Elizabeth and William B. Stalvey of Roswell and Ruth Smith of! Atlanta; nephews, Gary Stalvey and his wife, Pam, and Billy Stalvey; a niece, Jeanne Boland and two great-nieces, Emily and Allison Stalvey; a great-nephew, Chet Knight and a great-great-nephew, Bretton Knight. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Brown.
Lithia B. Spires
ARABI – On Friday, January 14, 2005, God called Lithia Lavenia Spires home. Mrs. Spires, 88, of Arabi died at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele. She was born Monday, March 13, 1916 Worth County and was the daughter of the late William Henry and Henrietta Anderson Byrd and the widow of Thomas Jackson Spires. She was a member of Haw Pond Baptist Church. B.R. ‘Marvin’ Phillips
CORDELE - B.R. “Marvin” Phillips, 79, of Cordele died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Crisp Regional Hospital.
A native of Wilcox County, he was born July 19, 1925, the son of the late William Lewis and Fannie Lee Rollins Phillips. He was retired from the Albany Marine Corps Supply Center and was a member of Northern Heights Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Interment will follow at Pitts Cemetery in Wilcox County.

Harris Goodroe
PINEHURST - Graveside services for Harris Goodroe, 76, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 27, 2005, in Walnut Cemetery in Unadilla.
Mr. Goodroe died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at his residence.
He was born in Dooly County on Feb. 21, 1928, the son of the late Charles Bruce Goodroe and Eva Harris Goodroe. He was a member of Pinehurst United Methodist Church where he had served as a Steward. In 1957, he opened Pinehurst Equipment Company and operated it until 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria R. Goodroe of Pinehurst; daughters, Anne Greer of Eastman, and Delle Sheppard of Leesburg; a brother, Charles B. Goodroe of Unadilla; his grandchildren, Bill (Kristi) Greer, Matt Sheppard, Molly Sheppard and Julie G. (Gordon) Gardner; and two great-grandchildren, Ansley Greer and Ava Greer.

UNADILLA - Funeral services for Sandra Jean Jackson will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in the Unadilla CME Church. Burial will be private. The Rev. Robert C. Taylor will officiate the services.
Mrs. Jackson died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in a local hospital.
A native of Dade County, Fla., she and her husband had lived in Dooly County since 2000. She was a member of Greater St. Matthew Holiness Church of Florida, and attended Dade County public schools. She was preceded in death by her father, the late James W. Williams.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Jackson III of Unadilla; a son, Steverick Jackson of Homestead, Fla.; step-children, Steve Jackson IV, Jocelin Collier and Natasha Jackson all of Leisure City, Fla.; her mother, Lillie E. Williams of Unadilla; two brothers, Harvey (Theresa) Williams of Texas, and James (Karen) Williams of Columbus; her mother-in-law, Geraldine Brown of Unadilla; two brothers-in-law; four aunts; an uncle and six grandchildren.

Born in Turner County October 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late A.J. and Mattie Pearl Johnson Davis. Mrs. Young was a homemaker and a member of Oakgrove Baptist Church in Turner County.
She is survived by her husband, William Young; one daughter, Linda Bellamy Duckworth of Cordele; four sons, David Bellamy and his wife Debra, Ricky Bellamy, and Jay Young, all of Cordele and Terry Young and his wife Amanda of Vienna; two sisters, Juanita Johnson of Cordele and Sue Wood of Douglasville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bowen died Friday, Jan. 28 at Leisure Life in Unadilla.
Born in Dooly County, he was the son of the late Oscar E. Bowen and Annie Porter Bowen. He was a retired farmer , a member of Liberty Baptist Church, the Men’s Sunday School Class and Millwood Masonic Lodge # 198.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Lee) Wiley of Pinehurst; two sisters, Rosa Lee Peavy and Laverne Bowen, both of Pinehurst; one brother, Charles Bowen of Pinehurst; two grandchildren, Wayne (Gina) Wiley of Hawkinsville and LeSan (Del) Kimbrough of Pinehurst; and four great-grandchildren, Kallie Kimbrough, Wiley Kimbrough, Carson Wiley, and Gracen Wiley. His wife, Audrey Joiner Bowen, preceded him in death in 1993.
