Bruce C. Maddox

ALBANY - Funeral services for Bruce Charles Maddox, 49, will be held in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services today, February 9, 2005 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Bay Spring Cemetery in Arabi.

Mr. Maddox died at his residence Monday, February 7, 2005.

He was born on Tuesday, August 23, 1955 in Cordele and was the son of Verna Maddox and the late Oliver H. Maddox. He was retired from the State of Georgia as a DNR Agent.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Babs and Matt Baldwin of Leesburg; his mother,Verna Faircloth Maddox of Arabi; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Billy Downs of Arabi; three nieces, Karen Holmes, Lisa Downs and Billie Ann Grigg; two great-nieces, Jess Green and Nicole Howell and a great-nephew, Dylan Grigg. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Maddox.

Bruce Charles Maddox

CORDELE - Funeral services for Bruce C. Maddox, 49, were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2005 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service. Rev. Hicks Brown conducted the service and Thelma Hauesler, pianist, played soft music. Pallbearers were Darrell Savage, Buddy Evans, Billy Norton, Benny Willis, Bob Gibson and Elliott Warton. Burial was at Bay Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.

Myrtis Posey Culpepper

CORDELE - Funeral services for Myrtis Posey Culpepper, 83, of Arabi were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005, at Antioch Baptist Church. Dr. John G. Smith, and Rev. Tommy Mason officiated and Rainey Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Music was provided by Luann Turner, pianist. She also accompanied members of the Antioch Church Choir as they sang “All Because Of God”, “Amazing Grace”. Pallbearers were Phil Wehlitz, J.B. Odom, Truett Odom, David Cooper, Clay Ward and Bill Hardy. Interment was in Zion Hope Cemetery.

Glenna E. Bartlett

CORDELE - Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Saturday, February 12, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hughes and Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.

Mrs. Bartlett died Thursday, Feb. 10 at the Crisp Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Bartlett was a native of Wilcox County, a member of the Northern Heights Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Rusha Gibbs and the late Lucinda Henderson Gibbs. She is preceded in death by a grandson, Glenn Bartlett.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Hewlett N. Bartlett of Cordele; two sons, Tommy (Tammy) Bartlett of Cordele and Hewlett D. Bartlett of Americus; a daughter, Sheila B. (William) Buckelew of Cordele; a brother, Louie Gibbs of Vienna; a sister, Sharon Timmons of Cordele and a grandson, Trevor Bartlett of Cordele.

Visitation will be held tonight, February 11, 2005, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family may be contacted at the home of Tommy Bartlett, 237 Penia Road in Cordele.

Ronnie Davis

DUBLIN - Funeral services for Ronnie Davis, 61, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Jimmy Thigpen will officiate.

Mr. Davis died Wednesday evening at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Davis was born on August 10, 1943 in Irwin County. He was the son of the late M.C. and Myrtle Clements Davis, Jr. He was the owner and operator of Davis Floor Covering. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his two sons, Preston Scott Davis of Dublin and Rodney Clay (Wanda) Davis of Dublin; three brothers, Jimmie (Nell) Davis of Hawkinsville, Don (Priscille) Davis of Rex, and Wayne M. Davis of Dublin; two sisters, Corinne (Jimmie) Lamb of Macon and Alecia “Lisa” (Wayne) McKinley of Pitts; four grandchildren, Josh Davis, Will Davis, Deven Clay Davis, and Dillion Chase Davis.

Pallbearers will be Ernie Brimacomb, Michael Davis, Jerry Davis, Kevin Davis, Richard Davis and Gary Lamb. Tony Penny and Benny Wright will serve as Honorary Escorts.

Evelyn C. West

LILLY - Funeral services for Evelyn C. West, 75, will be held at 3 p.m. today in Lilly Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Mrs. West died Wednesday, February 9 in a local hospital.

Born in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Crosby and Sadie Reynolds Crosby. She was a member of Lilly Baptist Church, the WMU and Lilly Woman’s Club. Mrs. West was a homemaker and a retired from the Dooly County Schools as a Paraprofessional.

Survivors include her husband, Cliff West, Jr. of Lilly; three daughters, Susan (Dale) Knight of Cordele, Jamie (Graylen) Hall of Lilly, and Lisa (Johnny) Ellison of Perry; two sisters, Louise Gammell of Columbus and Ruth Chandler of Madison; five grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson and Lee Sinyard of Pinehurst, Tommie DeLoach of Buford, Kal Sinyard of Lilly, and Lauren Bloodworth of Pineview; and five great grandchildren.

Geraldine Clack Wade

CORDELE - Geraldine Clack Wade, 77, of Cordele died at Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.

She was born Friday, November 11, 1927 in Ocilla and was the daughter of the late Green Henry Clack and Cora Lee Watson Clack.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Service, with interment to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Debbie Peacock of Hawthorne, Fla., Ronnie and Polly Peacock of Seville, and Bobby and Theresa Wade of Eastman; a daughter, Teresa Wade of Cordele; a brother, Gordon Hubert Clack of Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters, Bernice Clack Rentfrow of Cordele and Bobbie Clack Wallace of Camden Wyoming, Del.; her grandchildren, April Peacock of Cordele, Ron and Jan Peacock of Abbeville, Sonia and Troy Cagle of Ranburne, Ala., Chad Peacock of Cordele, Kelly and Andy Clack of Abbeville, Phaedrae and Chris Williams of Cave City, Ark., Chris and April Wade of Cordele, Jamie Bagwell of Roswell and Dylan Kelly of Eastman; and 15 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by a brother, Herman T. Clack and a sister, Beatrice C. Beaman.

Margaret Stewart Lumpkin

ASHBURN - Funeral services for Margaret Stewart Lumpkin, age 83, will be held Friday, Feb. 11 at 4p.m. at the Harmony Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Harmony Cemetery.

Mrs. Lumpkin died Tuesday at Lee County Health Care following an extended illness.

Mrs. Lumpkin was born in Worth County and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Maggie Elizabeth Balkcom Stewart. She had resided in Turner County for over 60 years. She was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir, W.M.U. and was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Dorsey and Sandy Lumpkin of Ashburn, Ralph and Donna Lumpkin of Ashburn and Larry and Sharon Lumpkin of Marietta; one daughter and her husband, Marguerite and Buddy Lewis of Cordele; seven grandchildren, Deedy Eidenire of Leslie, Stacy Lumpkin of Lenox, joy Sanders and Nick Lumpkin, both of Dallas, Kristin Dyer of Marietta, Kayla and Jaclyn Lumpkin, both of Ashburn; and great grandchildren, John, Brian and Rachel Eidenire of Leslie, Madalyn and Mason Sanders, both of Dallas, and Jackson Dyer of Marietta. Mrs. Lumpkin is also survived by two brothers, Robert Stewart of Sumner and Valton Stewart of Albany.

Carrie Glover Lester

PINEHURST - Funeral Services for Mrs. Carrie Glover Lester will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Pinehurst. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. David Thomas will officiate.

Mrs. Lester died Sunday, Feb. 6 in a local hospital.

She was a native of Clay County and the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lula Glover and the widow of the late Cecil Lester, II. She was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church of Pinehurst and a homemaker.

Survivors include her children, Ruby Lane, Josephine Green, Alvin (Laura) Lester, Tammie (Ransom) Royal and Francine Brown, all of Pinehurst, Margie (Henry) Blunt of Decatur, Cecil (Carol) Lester of Unadilla, Linda (Earl) Jordan and Wilbert (Annie) Lester of Vienna; one sister, Margaret Walker of Locust Grove; 28 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.

Dr. Edgar Dean Mixon

FAYETTEVILLE - Funeral services for Dr. Edgar Dean Mixon, 50, will be held Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. at harps Crossing Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Watson officiating. Interment will be held at Camp Memorial Park.

Dr. Mixon died February 24, 2005.

He was a member of Harps Crossing Baptist Church. Dr. Mixon was preceded in death by twin boys, Benjamin and Daniel Mixon.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Mixon of Fayetteville; four daughters, Deanna Mixon of Macon, Jenni (Matt) Kellerman of Fayetteville, Ashley Mixon, and Abigail Mixon; two sons, Jeremy Mixon and Samuel Mixon; two grandchildren, Caroline Breedon and McKenzie Kellerman; and sister Norma (Rex) Gordon of North Carolina.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Bob H. Gibbs

ROCHELLE - Funeral services for Bob H. Gibbs, 74, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. David Clark and Rev. Daniel Burnette will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Gibbs passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in the Pineview Health Care Center.

Mr. Gibbs was born on September 25, 1930 in Wilcox County. He was the son of the late Raleigh Gibbs and Fannie Keene Gibbs. He was a self-employed carpenter and was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Ola Nell Gibbs of Rochelle; two sons, Bobby (Dinah) Gibbs of Abbeville and Mike (Shelia) Gibbs of Nahunta; one daughter, Sherry (Ricky) Land of Pitts; one brother, Jimmy Gibbs of Rochelle; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Funeral Home.

Doris West Respert

AMERICUS - Funeral services for Mrs. Doris West Respert, 62, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at Bethel Baptist Church in Vienna. The Rev. Bobby West will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery in Oglethorpe.

Mrs. Respert passed Thursday morning, February 24, 2005.

Jontavious Dawson

AMERICUS - Funeral services for Navy Petty Officer Jontavious Dawson, formerly of Cordele, will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the A.S. Clark Elementary School Auditorium. Pastor Warren Alford will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.

Mr. Dawson passed on February 21, 2005.

Survivors include his wife, Adrienne Clayton Dawson of Americus; children, Anaiah Kirkland, Cariesha A. Dawson, both of Americus, and Jalil T. Dawson and Kiera Lunsford, both of Cordele; his parents, Geraldine (Cory) Smith of Valdosta and Johnny Dawson, Jr. of Cordele; brothers, Venderick Dawson and Steven Dawson, both of Valdosta, Quintonio Hunt of Miami, FL and Rashad Hunt of Cordele; grandparents, Bishop Elbert (Bobbie) West of Ashburn and Mozie M. Gaines of Cordele; father and mother-in-law, George and Elaine Clayton of Americus; sisters-in-law, Shanita Clayton of Americus, Katrina Clayton of Atlanta and Alecha Burns of Nebraska; brother-in-law, Elliot Clayton of Americus; special nephew, Antonio Clayton of Americus; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and many, many friends.

Jimmy Adams

UNADILLA - Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy Adams will be held saturday at 1 p.m. in the Big Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Unadilla. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military honors. Rev.Steve Askew will be officiating.

Mr. Adams died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Southern Medical Center in Riverdale.

He was the son of the late Annie Ruth Sawbrooks and Arnultra Adams of Duval County, Florida. He attended Dooly County Schools and was a member of the Big Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He was a Army Veteran (Sgt.) and had served 17 years in the Army National Guard. He had worked at Georgia Pacific Particle Board, Ga. DOT and as a farmer with W. G. Joiner Farms.

Survivors include his wife, Wiola L. Adams of Unadilla; four sons, Jimmy Duane (Cinda) Adams of Hawkinsville, Gregory Adams, Tony (Trella) Adams and Jason (Kristee) Adams, all of Unadilla; one daughter, Lakeysha Adams of Riverdale; six sisters, Florizell Bryant of Jacksonville, FL, Clara Crockett of New Passaic, NJ, Pheon Goodman of Patterson, NJ, Alice (Lamar) Whitehead of Eastman, Fran (Tony) Ryan of Jacksonville, FL and Vickie Adams of Unadilla; four brothers, Kenneth (Ruth) Adams of Jacksonville, NC, Wayne (Brenda) Adams of Hawkinsville, Edward (Doris) Adams of College Park and Emanuel (Annie) Adams of West Palm Beach, FL; seven aunts; one uncle; mother and father-in-law, Miller and Frances Lawson of Unadilla; 10 sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and 12 grandchildren.

Vauneal Odom Massey

WARWICK - Funeral services for Mrs. Vauneal Odom Massey, 89, will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 26, 2005 at Banks Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Warwick Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Massey died Feb. 24 at her residence.

Born in Worth County on August 12, 1915 to John Dallas Odom and Ellen Myra Kemp Odom Downs. She was a member of Warwick Lions Club, former member of Warwick Easter Star, Member of New Union Baptist Church where she served as church clerk and treasurer for 49 years. She also taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She lived in Worth County all of her life as a homemaker. She was preceded in death by two sons, Rayford Massey on June 24, 1939 and John Dallas Odom on July 22, 1992.

She is survived by her daughter, Melinda (Bobby) Oliver of Baconton; one granddaughter, Sharon Oliver (Tommy) Thompson of Moultrie; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Odom of Warwick and Dot Massey of Eaton Park, FL; two faithful and loving pets, Sara and BB; several nieces and nephews; and a wonderful caregiver, Cheryl Cook.

Doris Ann Respert

AMERICUS - Funeral services for Doris Ann Respert, 62, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in Bethel Baptist Church in Vienna. Burial will follow in the Oglethorpe City Cemetery in Oglethorpe. Dr. Bobby G. West will officiate the services.

Mrs. Respert died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005.

Born on Oct. 5, 1942, she was the daughter of Odessa Clark West and Willie “Bud” Daniels of Vienna. She was educated in the public school system of Dooly County. At an early age, she joined Bethel Baptist Church in Vienna. On June 3, 1981, she married the Rev. Henry L. Respert. During their marriage, two families communed as one.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Henry L. Respert of Americus; her mother, Odessa West of Vienna; two biological children, the Rev. Dr. Bobby G. (Melvilla) West of Unadilla, and Shirlene (Alvin) Josey of Americus; four daughters by marriage, Adel (William) Sellars, Marilyn (Joe Lewis) Robinson and Carlis Wisdom all of Atlanta, and Minnie Jean Respert of Marshallville; two sons by marriage, John Lewis (Lenora) Respert of Atlanta, and Henry Marvin (Diann) Respert of Houston, Texas; six sisters, Betty Fluellen of Chester, Va., Rosalyn Daniels of Fayetteville, Willene Daniels of Ohio, Maudie (Bryan) Newkirt of New England, Delta (Ronald) Rawl of Decatur, and Joyce (Anthony) Henry of Stone Mountain; five brothers, O.C. Smith of New York, N.Y., H.B. (Addie) West of Miami, Fla., King (Betty) West Jr. of Albany, the Rev. O’Neal (Robin) Daniels of Riverdale, and Willie J. (Cassandra) Wellon of Cordele; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Dorothy Lillian Gill

CORDELE - Dorothy Lillian Gill, 67, of Cordele died in Crisp Regional Hospital Friday, Feb. 25, 2005.

She was born Monday, May 10, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Staley Sokolowski and Stella Kulwicki Sokolowski and the widow of Perry Roy Gill. She was retired from Cordele Uniform Company as a seamstress.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005.

She is survived by her children, Joseph Clark of Roseville, Mich., Steven Clark, David Clark and James Clark all of Lincoln Park, Mich., Thomas Clark and Sharon Flanders both of Cordele, and Janet Tritschler of Perry; her grandchildren, Kiara Clark, Trudy Snyder, Nicole Clark, David Clark Jr., Susan Gewenda, Robert Clark, Gail Clark, Rachel Flanders, Andrea Flanders, Jessica Tritschler and Danielle Tritschler; a great-grandchild, Kimberly Gewenda; a brother, Henry Sokolowski of Northville, Mich.; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Solkolowski of Garden City, Mich.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Sokolowski and sisters, Mildred Booth, Clara Swindlehurst and Bernice Menard.

The family will receive friends at Rainey Family Funeral Services Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, from 7-9 p.m.
