Perry - Tammy A. O’Herron, 29, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in Macon Northside Hospital.

Services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Saturday following the service at McCullough Funeral Home.

Mrs. O’Herron was born in Warner Robins, was a member of Bonaire Church of Christ and also attended Warner Robins High School.

Survivors include her husband, Heath O’Herron; daughter, Heather Savannah O’Herron of Perry; father, Kelly Boothe of Warner Robins; mother and step-father, Danny and Nadine Hubert of Warner Robins; brothers, Daniel Hubert and Christopher Hubert both of Warner Robins, and Kelly Dean Boothe of Perry; grandmothers, Peggy Boothe of Warner Robins, and Jean Hubert of Davenport, Iowa.

Cecelia D. Martin

CORDELE - Funeral services for Cecelia D. Martin were held in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, with the Revs. Lawton Sammons and Bill Kent officiating.

Marcene Freeman, pianist, played soft music and accompanied the Rev. Royce Freeman and herself as they sang “In The Garden.” The service was closed as they sang “Amazing Grace.”

Pallbearers were Heath Register, Jimmy Maxey, Charles Cape, Arthur Dawson, James Hughes and Jerry Fletcher.

The committal service was in Penia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ronnie Musgrove

BAINBRIDGE - Funeral services for Ronnie Musgrove, 61, will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 11, 2005, in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bainbridge. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery. Elders Emory Carlton and Evan Blanton will officiate the services.

Mr. Musgrove died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Memorial Manor.

Pallbearers will be Paul Kelly, Edward Kelly, Wayne Blanton, Billy Bryant, David Evans and Joseph Kelly.

Born Nov. 7, 1943, in Decatur County, he was the son of the late Perry and Lucy Yawn Musgrove. He lived most of his life in Decatur County, with the exception of a short time that he lived in Albany. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist faith and was a bead builder in the tire and rubber industry.

Survivors include his wife, Luz Baculanta Musgrove of Bainbridge; a daughter, Wendy Causey of Worth County; a son, Ronnie Musgrove Jr. of Cordele; a sister, Margaret Bryant of Worth County; brothers, Eddie Musgrove of Faceville, and Curtis Musgrove of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Vera Kate Coleman

PEACHTREE CITY - Vera Kate Coleman, 83, formerly of Rochelle, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2005, in the Morningside Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Taylor will officiate.

Mrs. Coleman was born on Feb. 12, 1922, in Wilcox County, having lived the past eight months in Peachtree City. She was the daughter of the late Clayton A. Page and Delores Handley Page. She was a retired civil service employee from Robins Air Force Base. She was a former member of the Alberta Crummey Garden Club and the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Rochelle United Methodist Church where she received the quiet disciple award and was a former member of the W.M.U., where she had served as president. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilton Coleman.

Survivors inclue one son, Don (Judy) Coleman of Peachtree City; one daughter, Wanda Barringer of Rome; one brother, Clayton A. Page, Jr. of Atlanta; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Robert N. Venable

CORDELE - Funeral services for Dr. Robert N. Venable will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, in the sanctuary of Beth-El CME Church. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Pastor Jane E. Thomas will officiate the services.

Dr. Venable died Friday, March 11, 2005, in Albany.

Born May 6, 1928, in Oxford, N.C., he was the son of the late Walter Harrison Venable and Dorothy Taylor Venable. He graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., in 1949, with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and chemistry and was a high school mathematics teacher. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in August of 1951, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 26, 1959, at the rank of corporal. He graduated from Meharry Medical College in June 1959 with a doctor of medicine degree and interned at the Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. Dr. Venable moved to Cordele in 1967, and practiced medicine until his retirement in 2002.

He held membership at Bethel CME Church where he was a former Steward and lay leader. He also volunteered in the kindergarten class of his daughter, Sheryl Venable, at the Lamarr Reese Elementary Fine Arts Magnet School in Albany.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Florence Rebecca Daniel Venable; one sister, Dorothy Venable Turnbow; and one brother, Sandy Venable.

Survivors include three daughters, Sheryl F. Venable of Albany, Dr. Sheila Venable-Mustifa of Lithonia, and Lisa A. Venable of Cordele; two sons, Robert N. Venable Jr. of Decatur, and Michael L. Venable of College Park; one granddaughter, Yasmine F. Mustifa; two sisters, Dr. Joyce Venable Gould of Raleigh, N.C., and Mary Elizabeth Venable of Oxford, N.C.; one brother, Charles Venable of Oxford, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

J.W. Williams Funeral Home of Cordele has charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Jim Hayes Jr.

CORDELE - Funeral services for the Rev. Jim Hayes Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, in the sanctuary of Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Church Cemetery. The Rev. William Felton will officiate the services.

Rev. Hayes died Friday, March 11, 2005.

Survivors include his sons, LaCarlos (Loretta) Hayes of Warner Robins, LeCedric (Shakita) Hayes of Macon, Jim D. Hayes and LaTrince J. Hayes both of Rebecca, Alonzo Jenkins and Corey Patrick both of Cordele, Michael (Angela) Jenkins of Atlanta, Malcom Hayes of Albany, and Jimmy L. Hayes of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Naomi (J.C.) Wallace of Vero Beach, Fla., Barbara (Eddie) Goldberg of Marion, S.C., Mary D. Fegins and Pastor Elizabeth (Harold) Henderson both of Atlanta, Irene Hernandez and Annie Hayes both of Cordele; brothers, Johnny June of Newark, N.J., Alonza (Lilly) Hayes and Richard (Felecia) Hayes both of Cordele, Alphonso (Jennifer) Hayes of Atlanta, and Willie Fred (Keysha) Hayes of Ocilla; a special nephew, Kasion T. Bennett of Cordele; and a special friend, Lynn Harris of Ashburn.

Annie Ruth Walker

CORDELE - Funeral services for Annie Ruth Walker, 71, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, in Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Walker died Sunday, March 13, 2005.

A native of Wilcox County, she was the daughter of the late Joe Bailey and Ruth Bullard Bailey. She attended Gillespie-Seldon School in Cordele and joined Gethsemane Baptist Church and Church of God By Faith both in Cordele, and Americus Pentecostal Church in Americus.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Walker Jr. of Cordele; her daughter, Patricia Miller of Durham, N.C.; a stepson, Frederick Patrick of Cordele; her sister, Christine B. Dent of Wilmington, Del.; her brother and sister-in-law, Amos J. (Ida Mae) Bailey of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; three grandchildren, Andralena Miller, Christopher Miller and Matthew Miller; and a host of other relatives and friends.

George G. Cook

PITTS -- George Gregory Cook, 46, died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday, March 19, 2005 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mr. Cook was a anative of Peach County and a U. S. Army veteran. He was a production aid at Georgia Pacific Corp. He was the son of the late Ernest Daniel Cook and the late Gloria Petterson Cook.

Survivors include his son: Chris Cook, Ringgold; daughters: Amanda Langford, Benton, TN and Kayla Keech, Pitts; brothers: Danny (Chic) Cook, Zolfo Springs, FL, David Cook and Ernie Cook both of Benton, TN; fiancé: Carla Keech, Pitts; and step-mother: Brenda Tharpe, Cordele.

Bennie Will Gilley

ASHBURN - Funeral services for Mr. Bennie Will Gilley, 74, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Bethel Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery in Turner County.

Gilley died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at his residence.

Glenda M. Powell

STOCKBRIDGE - Funeral services for Glenda M. Powell, 60, of Stockbridge will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2005 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Ralph Easterwood officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele with Clint Musselwhite officiating.

Powell died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at her residence.

She was born in Cordele, daughter to the late James Leon and Lou V Holmes Musselwhite. She was employed as a pharmacist technician and a member of Glen Haven Baptist Church.

Powell is survived by her husband, Larry Gordon Powell, Stockbridge; sons, Keith & Michelle Powell, Palmetto, GA, Kelly Powell, Stockbridge, GA; Grandchildren, Benjamin Powell, Adam Powell, Grace Powell.

Mary Wood Gregory

VIENNA - Funeral services for Mary Wood Gregory, 93, of Vienna will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at Vienna United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Vienna city cemetery.

Mrs. Gregory died Saturday, March 19, 2005 in a local hospital.

Born in Covington, she was the daughter of the late William Hulbert Gaither and Leila Biggers Gaither. She was a homemaker, a member of Vienna United Methodist Church and the widow of Hardy Gregory, Sr.

Survivors include; sons, Alton Gregory (Peggy) of Milledgeville, Hardy Gregory, Jr. (Carolyn) of Vienna, Charlie Gregory (Jean Marie) of Vienna, and William Hulbert “Hub” Gregory (Betty Sue) of Orange Park, Fla.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends on Monday, March 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marie P. Wiley

PENSACOLA, Fla., - Funeral services for Marie P. Wiley, 83, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Dr. Ted Traylor and the Rev. Eugene Steele officiating. The burial will be in the Bayview Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Wiley, Bob Ervin, Eric Ervin, Bruce Smith, Greg Price and Gene Myatt. Honorary pallbearers will be Marie’s friends from the Faith Sunday School Class at Olive Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wiley, “Mom,” died Monday afternoon, April 4, 2005, at a Pensacola hospital.

She was born October 26, 1921, in Cordele where she and her husband lived until 1986 when they moved to Pensacola. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Byron Wiley in 1988 and her parents Hoyt and Pearl Puckett.

Marie was a vibrant, witty and selfless person. Her endearing personality was infectious. Those who were blessed to know her will miss her smile and positivity.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Gayle Wiley; her brother, David Puckett; sister, Modena Lisenby; grandchildren, Wendy Kimbro and Jonathan Wiley; and great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Madison Kimbro.

The family extends their sincerest gratitude to the wonderful doctors and nurses who attended her at West Florida Hospital CCU.

Archie N. McKay

SKY VALLEY, Nev. - Archie N. McKay, 67, passed away on March 31, 2005, while on an extended visit to Nevada.

Mr. McKay, a native of Wilcox County, was a journalist who worked as a reporter, managing editor and editor on newspapers in Georgia including the Tifton Gazette, the Cordele Dispatch, the Macon Telegraph, and the Valdosta Daily Times. He won numerous journalistic awards during his career. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1957-1960, spending most of his service time in Germany.

Mr. McKay was active in communities in which he lived. He belonged to Big Brothers while in Macon and served on the Lowndes County and South Georgia Library Boards and the YMCA Board of Directors while in Valdosta. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Valdosta. With his wife, Cuba, he coauthored "A Pictorial History of Rabun County" for the Rabun County Historical Society in 2003. He was an avid ham radio operator and a private pilot.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. April 16, 2005, in the Chapel of Sky Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or another charity of choice.

Mr. McKay is survived by a wife, Cuba Spivey McKay of Sky Valley; a daughter and a son-in-law, Janis McKay and Bill Bernatis of Las Vegas, Nev.; a son, Archie N. McKay, Jr. (Nick) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Ellen McLeod of Tifton and Lillian Masters of Cordele; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Loyce E. Harpe

MULBERRY, Fla. - Graveside services for Loyce E. Harpe, 61, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Mr. Harpe died Tuesday, April 5, 2005.

A native of Wilcox County, he was employed at Polk County Parks and Recreation as a director. He was the son of the late Loy Harpe.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Harpe of Mulberry, Fla.; his mother, Sarah Simmons Harpe of Cordele; two sons, Derek Earl (Stacie) Harpe of Ft. Meade, Fla., and Drew Allen (Angela) Harpe of Brandon, Fla.; two sisters, Brenda Ward of Cordele and Diane Montgomery of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandsons, Glavine Harpe and Kadin Harpe, both of Ft. Mead, Fla.; and one granddaughter, Kamryn Harpe of Ft. Meade, Fla.

Memorials can be made to Friends of the Park Foundation in Polk County, Fla.

Mrs. Avery died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Tift Health Care following a lengthy illness.
