Louise Shell Morris
CORDELE - Louise Shell Morris, 91, died Monday, April 25, 2005, in Crisp Regional Nursing & Rehab.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Morris, a native of Crisp County, was the daughter of the late George Harmon Shell and the late Iva Mae McGahee Shell. She was a member of Northern Heights Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker and the widow of Rowlins Dorsey Morris.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Shell and R.T. Shell.
Survivors include her son, James (Joyce) Morris of Cordele; her brother, Harmon (Althea) Shell of Waycross; grandsons, Randy (Peggy) Morris and Les (Pam) Morris all of Cordele; and her great-grandchildren, Benji Morris, Timmi Morris, Kristi Morris and Kerri Morris.

Katherine Cape Medlock
PLAINS - Funeral services for Katherine Cape Medlock, 65, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2005, in the Plains United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Lebanon Cemetery in Plains. The Revs. Mira Barrett and Rick Hamilton officiated the services.
Mrs. Medlock died Saturday, April 23, 2005, in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
A native of Crisp County, she was born Sept. 10, 1939, the daughter of the late Charlie Fred Cape and Valera Branch Cape. She was retired from the State of Georgia Middle Flint Behavioral Health Care in Americus, and was a member of Plains United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Wade Medlock of Plains; a daughter, Mary Ann Ledger of Plains; a son and a daughter-in-law, Parks Medlock and Kim of Crestview, Fla.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vonnie Young and Roy of Plains, and Jean Bodrey of Cordele; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Cape and Lenora of Gainesville, and Tim Cape of Cordele; six grandchildren, Aleigha Pouliot, Abbey Pouliot, Zach Pouliot, Zoe Medlock, Elise Medlock and Emma Medlock; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Sheila Ruth Medlock in 1963.

Harry Joe Clayton
VIENNA - Funeral services for Harry Joe Clayton, 49, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 23, 2005, in the Evangelistic Tabernacle Church of God in Vienna. Burial will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Pinehurst. Bishop Arthur West will officiate the services.
Mr. Clayton died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, in a local hospital.
He was the son of the late Willie B. and Eva Mae Clayton and was a member of the Evangelistic Tabernacle Church of God. He attended Dooly County Schools.
Survivors include a son, Jermaine Clayton of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Marzell (Fletcher) Washington of Vienna, and Bobbie (Tommy) Lester of Atlanta; a brother, Curtis (Dorothy) Clayton of Missouri; two aunts, Mattie Breedlove of Vienna, and Lena McCrary of Atlanta; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Myrtle Hammond
CORDELE - Funeral services for Myrtle Estelle Hammond, 84, of Cordele will be held in the chapel Of Rainey Family Funeral Services Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Rebecca.
Mrs. Hammond died at her residence in Cordele Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005.
She was born Wednesday, April 13, 1921 in Pitts and was the daughter of the late Cicero Richard Davis and Nancy Jane Owens Davis and the widow of Shirley Tifton Hammond. Mrs. Hammond was a grocery clerk (RET) and attended Cordele Church of God of Prophecy.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Estelle French of Maryland, Betty Nipper and Brenda Hammond, both of Cordele; a sister, Jurelle Shirah of Cumming; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ernest Tifton “Junior “ Hammond and William Richard "Dickie" Hammond; a brother, Delma Davis; and her sisters, Lula Mae Peterson, Lucille Woodard, Alline Bellener and Ester Ellsworth.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mary John Davis McCorvey
ASHBURN - Funeral services for Mary John Davis McCorvey, 79, of Ashburn will be held Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Ashburn First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. McCorvey died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at her residence following an extended illness.

Joel H. Adkins
VIENNA - Funeral services for Joel H. Adkins, 84, of 215 North Sixth Street Vienna, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 in vienna with Dr. J.W. Wallis and Dr. Keithen Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Vienna City Cemetery.
Adkins died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.
Adkins was born on June 29, 1921 in the house where he resided at the time of his death. His parents were Tilden Adkins and Florrie Morgan Adkins. He served as a Medical Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the bronze star for his heroic rescue of patients at a surgical hospital in the Philippines during an enemy bombing attack. He was an inspector with the State Health Department and following his retirement he owned and operated Joel’s Antiques for 25 years. He was active in the antique business at the time of his death. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Vienna.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Tilden du Bignon Adkins, Dr. Henry T. Adkins, and Woodrow Wilson Adkins and by his sisters, Emma Clifford Cofer, Eloise Roberta Adkins, Florrie Belle Fokes and Evelyn Morgan Hunter.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family greeted friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 at the funeral home.
