Ms. Kelly Bunch
Ms. Kelly Bunch, age 19 of Jasper, passed away Sept. 27, 2002 as the result of an auto accident.
Survivors include her parents, Curtis and Sheila Bunch, Jasper; grandparents, Robert E. and Edith Wigington, Jasper; Larry and Celia Queen, North Carolina, and Raymond and Shirley Bunch; and one brother, Michael Bunch, Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Hamilton officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were: Danny Childers, Luke Copeland, Benji Pearson, Michael Jordan, Brett and Rhett Day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sharp Mountain Baptist Church.
Betty Bozeman
Mrs. Betty Bozeman, age 71 of Nelson, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include two stepsons, Cotton and Charles Bozeman,both of Four Mile; one step-daughter, Ann Simmons, Talking Rock; one brother, Heard Ridings, Holly Springs; two sisters, Mary Ann Brown, Nelson, and Elizabeth Hamrick, Jasper. Five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven nieces survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Calvin Grogan and Larry Johnson officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were: Cotton and Charles Bozeman, Vernon Simmons, George Howard, Blake and Blaine Loggins, Christopher Scott, Greg Nicholson and Mark Komarc.
Arie Williams
Mr. Arie Leonard “Al” Williams of Woodstock died peacefully at home on Sept. 30, 2002. He was born April 26, 1924 in Cherokee County, son of the late Henry Grady and Inez Whitmore Williams. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by brothers, James, Fred, Hoyt and Albert Williams, as well as sisters, Lucille Mulkey and Geneva Nealey.
Mr. Williams joined the US Army Corps on Jan. 7, 1942. After honorably serving his country, he worked as a car salesman, gas station and restaurant owner before settling on a 30-year plus career as owner of an electrical contracting company. He passed his knowledge onto his four sons and countless others.
Survivors include his beloved wife of over 40 years, Louise Williams; four sons, Nick, Henry, Scott and Allan Williams; three daughters, Suzie Rainwater, Debbie Mixon and Hope Williams; nine grandchildren, Nick Williams Jr., Eric Williams, Timi Rainwater, Jessica John, Bret, Alex, Quenton, Tyson and Brandon Williams; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold Lloyd and Kenneth Williams; and sister, Elaine Grant.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Sosebee Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Templeton officiating. Interment followed in Old Macedonia Cemetery in Bartow County. Pallbearers were: Roger, Nick Jr., Lloyd Jr. and Troy Williams, Gary Nealy and Michael Johnson.
Dimple Jarrett
Mrs. Dimple Jarrett, age 74 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn Jarrett, Jasper; two daughters, Helen Collis and Angie Jones, both of Jasper; one brother, Bud Mills, Jasper; two sisters, Jean MacArthur and Sue Dooley, both of Jasper, Betty Wilson, Dalton; and three grandchildren, Cody Jones, Crystal and Phillip Landrum and Haley Jones.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 from Sharptop Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Allen and Johnny Garrison officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Ronnie Jones, Keith Mills, Mike McArthur, Charlie and Denny Jarrett and Charlie Ledbetter. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Jerry Young
Mr. Jerry Fred Young, age 52 of Fairmount, Ga., departed this life Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 at his home.He was born Dec. 16, 1949 in Gordon County, son of the late Sam Henry and Bertie Mae (Stone) Young. Mr. Young drove a truck for Fairmount Gas Co. for many years and was a member of the East Damascas Baptist Church.
He is survived by special friends, Tristen Johnson, Kathy and John Campbell, Charles and Susie Mallory, Maric Mallory, John Austin Campbell and Brooke Campbell, all of Fairmount. Several aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday morning, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. from Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Hollis Crook officiating. Interment followed in East Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery.
Joseph Holmes
Mr. Joseph Norman Holmes, age 66 of Jasper, departed this life Saturday morning, Oct. 19, 2002 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton, Ga.
Mr. Holmes was born Sept. 30, 1936 in Gordon County, son of the late Joe and Tamer (Hood) Holmes, His wife, Ethel Mae (Satterfield) Holmes, also preceded him in death. Mr. Holmes was a gifted musician and learned to play the guitar at an early age. He was a member of the Cove Mountain Bluegrass Band for the past 15 years. He was a member of the Hinton Baptist Church.
Survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Charlotte Holmes of Calhoun; daughter, Donna Morgan of Jasper; grandchildren, Autumn Payne and Jacob and Makayla Holmes; brother, Rembert Holmes of Alcoa, Tn.; sister, Juanita Furr of Seymour, Tn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home in Jasper with the Revs. Gene Tatum, Hollis Crook, Wayne Wright and Bobby McFarland officiating. Interment followed in the Hinton Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Billy Brown, Reg Denney, Billy Deal, Ronnie West, Dave Gentry, Sonny Anderson and Gene Troglin. Arrangements were by the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
George Mulkey
Mr. George Mulkey, age 74 of the Jerusalem Community in Pickens County, departed this life Sunday morning, Oct. 27, 2002 at Wood Dale Health Care Center in Dalton, Ga.
Mr. Mulkey was born Sept. 17, 1928 in Pickens County, son of the late Tom and Anne (Young) Mulkey. His brothers, Ott, Sam, Ester, Carley and William Mulkey, sisters, Delphia Hightower, Lemar Mulkey, Lelar Young and Dora Hightower also preceded him in death. Mr. Mulkey was retired from Gold Kist and a member of Black Knob Baptist Church.
He is survived by sisters-in-law, Arewill and Maudie Mulkey, both of Jasper; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. from the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Revs. Herman Mulkey and Tate Hall officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain Cemetery in Talking Rock, Ga.
Lynda Williams
Mrs. Lynda Williams, age 49 of Marble Hill, formerly of Cherokee County, passed away at Northside Hospital-Cherokee on Nov. 5, 2002. She was a member of Women of Moose, Spirit Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Robert and Jeffrey Williams, both of Marble Hill; daughter, Brenda Williams, Marble Hill; and sister, Catherine Gosdin, Hampton. Nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. John Reale, Albert Kyle and Richard Picklesimer officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Sally Baldridge
Mrs. Sally Hightower Buckner Baldridge, age 64 of Talking Rock, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002.
Mrs. Baldridge was born June 30, 1938 in Pickens County, daughter of the late Luther and Lula Chastain Hightower. She was employed by Gold Kist and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Benny Baldridge of the home; children, Danny and Judy Buckner, Jasper, Sandra and Richard Powell and Randy Elliott, all of Talking Rock, and Ann and Edward Casey, Ellijay; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Houston Hightower, Cartersville, Roy Lee and Louise Hightower, Talking Rock, Harold and Linda Hightower and Boss Hightower, all of Ludville, Abe and Janice Hightower, Fairmount, J.C. and Pauline Hightower, Hill City, and Homer Hightower, Jasper; sisters, Amy and Vernon Stone, Willa Fay and Rembert Hancock and Francis and Ronald Watson, all of Ludville.
The funeral service was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Ball Ground Baptist Church with the Rev. Rembert Hancock and Cliff Nelson officiating. Music was by Irene Wofford, Lee Sutton, Bob and Travis Childers and Susie Timms. Pallbearers were: Clifford Crump, James, Gary and Junior Hancock, Ronnie Morris and Billy Joe Buckner. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.
Charles Schutt
Mr. Charles (Chuck) Schutt, age 45 of Canton, Ga., passed away Nov. 9, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Schutt is survived by his wife, Karen Schutt of Canton; parents, Paul and Suzi Schutt of Roswell; two daughters, Ashley and Amy Schutt of Canton; brothers, Steve Schutt of Suwanne, Kevin and Kerry Schutt, both of Johnson City, Tn.; and a sister, Andera Grindsteff of Woodstock.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 from the Pleasant Hill Christian Church on Hwy. 108 in Jasper with Minister Reese Faucett, Doug Lanier and bill Keeling officiating and under the direction of Roper Funeral Home. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: Steve, Kevin, Kerry and Michael Schutt, Brian Grindsteff and Lee Britt. Honorary pallbearers were: Troy and Buddy Cruch, Butch Cumminge, Howard Cochran, Doug Reed, Tommy Dunagan and Tom Zulls. Frankie McPherson
Mrs. Frankie J. McPherson, age 86 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away Nov. 10, 2002 at Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Wylene and Charles Padgett of Jasper, Carolyn and Bruce Swann of Marietta and Wanda and Danny Jordan of Ball Ground. Eleven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 from Salem Baptist Church in Jasper with the Revs. Robert Allen and James Thompson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. The Following served as pallbearers: Chuck Padgett, Billy Parker, Danny and Michael Jordan, Chris Hogan and Gordon Jones. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Eunice Young
Mrs. Eunice Young, age 87, passed away Nov. 10, 2002 at her residence.
Survivors include one sister, Wenell Chastain of Jasper; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Hollis Crook and Clay Fountain officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The following served as pallbearers: Tony, Kerry and Randy Cain, Chris Watson, Keith Gilbert and James Chastain.
Ethie Evans
Mrs. Ethie V. Evans, age 98 of Marietta, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 8, 2002 at Autumn Breeze Health Care in Marietta.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Buddy Roper officiating. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Fred Franklin
Fred O. Franklin, age 86 of Louisville, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at Maryville Healthcare Center. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church of Jasper, was retired from ALCDA and a member of the 25 Year Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Franklin.
Survivors include his step-daughter, Peggy Waldroup of Louisville; sister, Ruth Crisp of Knoxville, Tn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville.
Isreal Jarrett
Isreal Lee Jarrett, age 34 of Acworth, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002. A native of Cobb County, he worked in the construction business as a carpenter until being disabled three years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Jarrett, Acworth; daughters, Beth Anne and Melinda Jarrett, both of Jasper, Roxanne and Susanne Muehi, both of Cleveland, Oh.; son, Gary Muehl Jr., Cleveland, Oh.; father, Jackie Jarrett of Nelson; mother, Linda Lamanac, Waleska; sister, Jennifer Eriquezzo, Waleska; brothers, Thomas Isaac Shane Jarrett, Atlanta, and Christopher Jacob Jarrett, Tate. Two granddaughters also survive.
Collins Funeral Home of Acworth was in charge of the arrangements.
Bonnie White
Mrs. Bonnie Pauline White, age 76 of Ranger, Ga., passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 17, 2002 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome following a brief illness.
Mrs. White was born Feb. 7, 1926 in Gordon County, the daughter of the late Eugene Louis and Ruby Ann Crider Thacker. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Ted Thacker. Mrs. White was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Frank White, to whom she was married for 57 years; daughters and husbands, Vicki Lee and Gregory Bruce Townsend, Ranger, Marsha Lynn and Gary Parker, Jasper, and Melinda Ann and Stephen Walls, Resaca; grandchildren, Lisa Mulkey, Brandon Cronon and Angel Bell; great-grandchildren, Jessica Cronon, Dillon Logan, Tristan Cronon and Cameron Bell; sisters, Bessie Coggins, Ranger, and Mozelle Phoebus, Riverdale; brother, Harlan Thacker of Ranger. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Paul Richards and Lloyd Patterson officiating. Rev. Harold Cantrell conducted the graveside rites. Pallbearers were: Jerry Cronon, Dale Tatum, Gary Sheriff, Donnie White, Tim and Mark West and Larry and Jeff Thacker. Honorary pallbearers were: Rev. Bill Collins, Anthony Roberts, Lou and Bryant White.
Auby Lowe
Mr. Auby Low, age 81, passed away Nov. 12, 2002 at his residence.
Survivors include his son, Weldon Auby Low Jr. of Newnan; daughters, Charlotte McArthur of Oxford and Sue Caylor of Newnan; brothers, Bob, Jim and Coy Lowe, all of Jasper; sisters, Geneva Martin and Gwendolyn Nealy, both of Marietta, Emily Denson, Sybil Brooks, Willie Mae Turner, Patsy Armstrong and Sandra Wehunt, all of Jasper. Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirlee Ann Rothermel; brother, Weldon Lowe; and sister, Betty Rott.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles O. Walker and Tom Foskey officiating with interment in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: Blake and Bob McArthur, Chris and Jason Low, Joseph and Jeff Caylor, Greg Rothermel and the McDonald’s “Romeo” Club as honorary pallbearers.
