Connie Hauser
Mrs. Constance Hauser, 77, of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at her home.
Mrs. Hauser is survived by her husband, Ellis W. Hauser; three children, Karen of Acworth, Steve of Sandy Springs and David of Norcross; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Connie was born in Concord, N.C. and lived most of her adult life in Tifton, Ga. where Ellis Hauser was employed as a Research Scientist by the US Department of Agriculture at the Coastal Plain Experiment Station.Connie was a devoted and loving wife of 55 years, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She has always been known for her love of plants and flowers and her gardening skills. She was also an accomplished painter and cook. Connie was a member of Jasper United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 7 at Jasper United Methodist Church, located at 85 West Church Street (phone: 253-2100). The memorial service will be held in the Celebration Center, which is the main sanctuary of Jasper UMC. Family and friends of Connie, Ellis and their children are encouraged to attend.
Willie Mae Hand
Mrs. Willie Mae Hand, age 59 of Bay Point, Ca., formerly of Pickens County, passed away Nov. 23, 2002 at Mt. Diablo Hospital in Concord, Ca.
Survivors include her husband, Sherman Hand; four sons and daughters-in-law, Rickey and Tammy Abeyta, Ronald and Pam Abeyta and Walter Hand, all of Cleveland, Tn., and Herman and Tammy Hand, California; two daughters, Carol Abeyta, Jasper, and Shelia Hand, California; one brother, David Brown, Jasper; five sisters, Emily and Carolyn Poole, both of Jasper, Nancy Poole, North Carolina, Patricia Brown, Blue Ridge, and Vivian Thompson, New Mexico. Nine grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. William Blackwell officiating. Interment was in Yellow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: David Brown, Herman and Dusten Hand, Kevin Waters, Corey and Casey Barnett. Cagle Funeral Home, Jasper, and Ouimet Brothers Funeral Home of Concord, Ca. were in charge of the arrangements.
Mabel W. Kent
Mrs. Mabel W. Kent, age 87 of Marble Hill, passed away Dec. 16, 2002 at Northside-Cherokee Hospital in Canton.
She is survived by her husband, Paul J. Kent, Marble Hill; two sons and daughter-in-law, David Kent, Marble Hill, and Charles and Mary Kent, Yellow Creek Community; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Ronnie Foster, Lilburn, and Paulette and Perry Parker, Marble Hill. Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Kent was preceded in death by one son, Paul Glenneth Kent.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 from Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Dozier Henderson, Huey Holloway and John Padgett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: Jimmy Brooks, Robert Brown, Philip and Mack Kent, Michael Foster and Jerry Cantrell. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Nell Perry
Mrs. Mary Nell (Crook) Perry, age 72 of Fairmount, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at her residence. She was born in Bartow County. Mrs. Perry was preceded in death by her father, Columbus Crook; husband, Egan Willie Perry; and son, Danny.
Survivors include her mother, Odell Hambrick Crook of Fairmount; son and daughter-in-law, David and Annie Ruth Perry of Fairmount; brother and sister-in-law, James and Annette Crook of Calhoun; sisters and brother-in-law, Ellaree Smith, Bertha Mae and Kenneth Chapman and Elaine Walraven, all of Fairmount; grandchildren, Susan and Bobby Timms and Jessie Perry, all of Ludville, Kelly and Helen Perry of Fairmount and Keith and Clara Perry of Woodstock. Six great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. from Ryo Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Timms officiating. Arrangements by Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
H.A. Devlin Sr.
Mr. H.A. Devlin Sr., age 82 of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose M. Devlin.
Mr. Devlin leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, H.A. Devlin Jr. and Bonnie, Bent Tree; and two grandsons, H.A. Devlin III, University of Florida, Gainesville, Fl., and Harris Austin Devlin, Bent Tree.
The memorial service was held on Dec. 6 at St. Basil Church, Miami, Fl., with Father Peter officiating.
Robert Buchanan
Mr. Robert Buchanan, age 64 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He worked for many years at Mountainside Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Morris Buchanan, Jasper; son, Danny Buchanan, Jasper; sister, Edna Pendley, Jasper; brother-in-law, Ernest Howard, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday from Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Cantrell, Harold Johnson and Moss Fountain officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Grady and Harold Pendley, Roy Lee Bradley, William Cantrell, Jerry Walker and Horace Biddy. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
James Beck
Mr. James Beck, age 87 of Ball Ground, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at Grandview Health Care Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Grace Hammontree, Jasper; two grandchildren, Greg Hammontree and April Lake; and one great-grandchild, Austin Lake.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Blackwell officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were: Greg and Charles Hammontree, Buster Voyles and Mike Young.
Walter Johnson
Mr. Walter Franklin Johnson, age 85 of Ellijay, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002. He was born April 6, 1917 in Fannin County, the son of the late Arthur and Mary Alice Parks Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a merchant and a builder and member of the First Baptist Church of Ellijay.
Survivors include his son, Larry Johnson, Jasper; daughter, Barbara Tankersley, Marietta; two brothers, Clarence Johnson of Knoxville, Tn. and Hayden Johnson of Ellijay. Three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Edmund Miller and Charles O. Walker officiating. Music was by Lisa Lacey. Pallbearers were: David Johnson, Tony Whitaker, Kevin Tankersley, Kirk Adams, Jack Harper and Tom Eason. Interment was in Ellijay City Cemetery.
J.W. Reece
Mr. J.W. Reece, age 72 of East Point, Fl. and formerly of Jasper, passed away at his residence Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 4, 2002.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Reece, East Point; mother, Ora L. Reece, Marietta; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Laurianna Reece, Jasper; stepson, Tim Reece, Woodstock; daughters and son-in-law, Freda and David Neighbors, Jasper, Rita Thomason, South Carolina, and Tammy Wilson, Woodstock; sisters, Katherine Hand, Panama City, Fl., Betty Ledford, Marietta, Sara Bishop, Kentucky, and Sandra Kinder, Canton. Nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Self officiating. Interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery in Roswell with Jeffery and Ricky Reece, Brad and Chad Cochran, Dell Neighbors and Russell Woods serving as pallbearers.
Robert Glenn
Mr. Robert E. Glenn, age 79 of Jasper, passed early Thursday morning, Dec. 5, 2002 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Ruth Glenn, Jasper; and son, Scott A. Glenn, Jasper.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. from Jasper United Methodist Church with the Revs. Hoyt Jenkins and Herb Flanders officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Warren Hardige, Al and Don Larson, Alvin Hogg, Warren Tilson and Wayne Van Valkenburg. Flowers were omitted and the family requests that those who desire may make memorials to the Georgia Mountain Hospice. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
John Jones
Mr. John “Coleman” Jones, age 89 of Marble Hill, Ga., passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton. He was a Past Master of Marble Hill Lodge #207.
Survivors include three sons, Gilbert and Faye Jones of Adairsville, Anthony and Linda Jones and Toby and Susan Jones, all of Jasper; one brother, Arthur Jones of Kathleen, Ga.; two sisters, Jewell Childers of Canton and Cora Thomas of Auburn, Ga. Ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Duncan Jones, and a son, Johnny Jones.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 from Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Huey Holloway and John Padgett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Marble Hill Masonic Lodge #207 was in charge of the graveside service. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Berry Holland
Mr. Berry Edward Holland, born in Macon, Ga. Oct. 25, 1909, passed away in his sleep Friday morning, Dec. 6, 2002. He committed his life to providing for his family and had a special love for animals. His quiet strength. along with his humble and generous ways. will be cherished and remembered always.
Mr. Holland was preceded in death by his brother, John; sister, Elizabeth; and his own two children, Barbara Ann Holland McAdoo and Berry Edward Holland Jr. He leaves behind his wife, Eloise Holland; four grandchildren living in Jasper and the Atlanta area.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home.
Vonzeal Kelley
Mrs. Vonzeal Kelley, age 59 of Ellijay, formerly of Cherokee County, passed away at St. Joseph Hospital on Dec. 7, 2002. She was a member of Nelson Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Leroy Kelley, Ellijay; sons, Vaughn Kelley, Woodstock, and Blaine Kelley, South Carolina; daughter, Tara Burgess, Canton; sisters, Lois Cook, Marietta, Tabitha Sheffield, Woodstock, and Jolane Lathem, Ball Ground. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. from Nelson Baptist Church with the Revs. Junior Waddell and Wilbert Ridings officiating. Interment was in Cherokee Memorial Park. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Evelyn Herron
Evelyn L. Herron, age 91, passed away Dec. 8, 2002 at Grandview Health Center in Jasper. She had been a long-time resident of Bristol and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church before moving to Georgia in 1993 to be near her children. Mrs. Herron was preceded in death by her husband, Mack C. Herron.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Harry Gilmer of Big Canoe, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Donna Leonard Herron of Hartwell, Ga.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Gilmer Muse and husband Wayne of Jackson, Ms., Kelley Gilmer Whitaker and husband Scot of Jackson, Tn., Chad Herron and Krista Herron, both of Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Whitaker and Emily Ann Whitaker, both of Jackson, Tn.

Col. James Howell
Air Force Col. James T. Howell, retired, age 86 of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Col. Howell, a veteran of WW II, retired after 28 years of faithful service to his country and returned to Ball Ground to raise cattle and Christmas trees. In 1995 his health began to decline, forcing him to give up the activities he loved.
A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, his survivors include his wife, Dot Darnell Howell; sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Cathy Howell, Gainesville, Fl., and Tom and Irene Howell, Spartanburg, S.C.; grandchildren, Anna, Claire and Jessica Howell.
The body was cremated. An honorary memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. at Tate United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tate United Methodist Church, PO Box 116, Tate, Ga. 30177. Huey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mike Mundy
Mr. Mike Mundy, age 52 of Twin Mountain Lake Road, Talking Rock, passed away Oct. 3, 2002 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Mundy of Talking Rock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy and Rhonda Mundy, Marble Hill, and Chris and Kim Mundy, Kinglsey, Pa.; one brother, Joe Mundy, Priest River, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Lennon and Johnny Mundy.
The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church in Pickens County with the Revs. Moss Fountain, Neil McKenzie and Ron Rucker officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Barry Duffey, Tracy and Chris Mundy, Sam Stancil, Lionel Alexander and Ron Cochran.
Ray Harris
Mr. Ray Harris, age 63 of Ball Ground, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2002 at his residence. He was a Deacon and member of Four Mile Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Harris of Ball Ground; sons, Ricky, Mike and Terry Harris, all of Jasper; daughters, Peggy Cantrell of Ball Ground and Shirley Cantrell and Tracy Buchanan, both of Jasper; brothers, Howard and Red Harris, both of Dalton, Button Harris of Eaton and Peanut Harris of Madisonville, Tn.; sisters, Mildred Martin of Dalton and Sue Martin and Judy Raburn, both of Madisonville. Fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 from the Four Mile Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Chadwick, Phillip Padgett, Charlie Buchanan, Steven Chapman and Mike Harris officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
