Mrs. Heather Dyann Ware, 22,
entered into rest on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at Hopeful Baptist Church in Blythe, with Pastor Greg Glover officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ware was a secretary for Cotton States Insurance.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Wilson Ware Jr. of Wadley; a son, Gauge C. Guy; her parents, George and Nancy Guy; a sister, Rebecca Guy; a brother, Sam Guy; maternal grandparents, U.S. Army Retired Major Sam and Edna Norris; paternal grandmother, Ella Mae Guy; father-in-law and mother-in-law; Gary Ware Sr. and Ann Ware; a special cousin, Melinda Sims; several aunts and uncles; and several cousins.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Guy, Jon Jones, Jon Tam, Cris Cliett, Lin Cliett and George Sims Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hopeful Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mrs. Barbara A. Green, 67,
entered into rest Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 25), at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Bobby Coleman officiating.
Mrs. Green was married to Mr. Jack Lawrence Green. She was born in Norfolk, Va., but had lived in the CSRA for the last 24 years. Mrs. Green was a homemaker and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Green and wife, Cindy of Olive Branch, Miss. and Marty Green of Grovetown; three daughters, Jackie Romig of Martinez, Valeria Ann Andrews and husband Anglo of Willow Springs, N.C. and Rena Hill and husband Robert of Martinez; and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Elliott Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. John Alan Pond, 74,
entered into rest Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the residence of his daughter, Doni Barnhill, 17525 NW 240th St., Okeechobee, Fla.
Mr. Pond was born in Scarsdale, N.Y., to the late Harold and Margaret Carlisle Pond. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was of the Episcopal faith.
Survivors include his wife, Janis Lassiter Pond of Waynes-boro; two sons, Dwight Pond of Boise, Idaho and Andrew Pond of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter Nancy Halula of Miami; stepchildren, Scott Parker and Shannon Drew Parker of Burlington, Iowa, Kelly Sellers of Tallahassee, Fla., Kimbal Bird of Mapleton, Utah, Robin Phillips and Holly Faller, both of Marysville, Wash., Laurie Williams of Miami, Doni Barnhill of Okee-chobee and Diana DuBois of Elko, Nev.; a brother, Jim Pond of Bellevue, Wash.; a sister, Ann Stowers of Knoxville, Tenn.; and 31 grandchildren. Memorials made be made to one’s favorite charity.
Mrs. Lucille DeLoach (Granny) Perkins, 93,
of Townsend, Ga., died Feb. 17, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Oglesby officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Evans County, Ga., she had been a resident of McIntosh County for the past four years. She was employed as a saleslady at several department stores in Savannah during the 1950s and 1960s. Granny was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Shellman Bluff Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Perkins and Lenora E. (Betty) McNeely, both of Sutherland Bluff Plantation; a son-in-law, William L. McNeely of Sutherland Bluff Plantation; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Karen and Rodrigo Lopez of Atlanta; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Brad and Julie McNeely of Waynesboro; a great-grandson, Alex Lopez of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews; three special care-givers, Martha Jones of Midway, Ann Rankin of Darien and Eileen Hilderbrandt of Waynesboro; and her cat, Daisy.
Pallbearers were family members and close friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shellman Bluff Baptist Church or an organization of the donor’s choice.
Mr. Ray Mahaffey
entered into rest Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, in the Barrow Community Hospital, Winder, Ga. Mr. Mahaffey was cremated. There will be no services.
Mr. Mahaffey was born in Canton, Ohio. He was a retired dispatcher with the Burke County Sheriff’s Department, a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro, an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the American Legion Post #120 in Waynesboro.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Queen Mahaffey; a son, Ray Mahaffey Jr. of Winder; three grandchildren, Dawn M. Atkinson, Devin M. Mahaffey and Dean M. Lovett, all of Waynesboro; and two great-grandchildren, Cody Scott Atkinson and Baylie Lovett, both of Waynesboro. Poteet Funeral Home South Chapel, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangments.
Dr. J. Lynwood Herrington, 84,
entered into rest Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at his home.
A family graveside service was held 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, with Dr. Todd Jones officiating.
Dr. Herrington was born Nov. 24, 1919 in Waynesboro to Kathleen Cates and John Lynwood Herrington Sr. He graduated from Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Vanderbilt. Dr. Herrington was Clinical Professor of Surgery at Vanderbilt and maintained his surgical practice at both Vanderbilt and St. Thomas hospitals for 40 years. He served as visiting professor in many institutions throughout America and was a member of several surgical organizations including the Southern Surgical Association, where he served as president, the Western Surgical Association, the American Surgical Association, the Tennessee Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the Nashville Surgical Society, the H. William Scott Society and the Georgia Surgical Society. In 1990, Vanderbilt and St. Thomas Department of Surgeries established The Herrington Lectureship in recognition of his contributions and accomplishments in the field of surgery. He was a member of the Belle Meade Country Club, the Davy Crockett Hunting Club, a founding benefactor of the Ward Waterfowl Foundation in Salisbury, Md. and a member of First Presbyterian Church. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Alene, who died in 1947.
Dr. Herrington is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Alene Edwards Herrington; seven children, Kathleen Herrington Davidson of Nashville, John Lynwood Herrington III (Ellen Chapman) of Murfreesboro, Leonard Edwards Herrington (Gene Sanders) of Statesboro, Frank Cates Herrington (Adelaide Fowler) of Atlanta, Julie Herrington (Johnny) Haffner of Nashville, Adelaide Herrington (John) Geer of Nashville, Susan Herrington (Jerry) Vaughan of Nashville; and 21 grandchildren, Mary Alene Sarratt, Mary Frances Her-rington, Elizabeth Herrington (David) Malkin, Emily Davidson (Patrick) Martin, Catherine Stark Herrington, Ware Sanders Herrington, Sarah Cates Herrington, Frank Cates Herrington Jr., William Leonard Herrington, Barbara Elizabeth Herrington, John Lynwood Herrington IV, Laura Gains Davidson, Jesse Thornhill Davidson IV, Thomas Cates Herrington, Kathleen Cates Geer, Alene Hawkins Geer, Julia Herrington Haffner, Jerry Christopher Vaughan Jr., Wilson Edwards Vaughan, Susan McCall Vaughan and James Oliver Geer.
Pallbearers were his 21 grandchildren.

Mrs. Fay Jean Gray Pulley, 70,
of 784 Claxton Road, Girard, entered into rest Monday, March 1, 2004, at the residence of her daughter, Debra Ellison. Family and friends will gather at the residence of Debra Ellison, 784 Claxton Road, Girard, 6 to 9 tonight (Wednesday, March 3) for a time of memory. Hospice Chaplain Richardson will officiate during the memorial service.
Mrs. Pulley was a native of Nashville, Tenn., but had lived most of her adult life in Georgia. She was a retired waitress from Huddle House Restaurant. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Pulley was Baptist by faith and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Girard.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Joe Pulley Sr. of Girard; two sons, Rickey Pulley and Jimmy Pulley, both of Dawsonville, Ga.; two daughters, Sherry P. Wall and Debra P. Ellison, both of Girard; and 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Miriam Ruth (Groff) Gehman, 83,
entered into rest Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at the Ephrata Community Hospital in Ephrata, Pa., after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Hepzibah Mennonite Church in Hephzibah.
Mrs. Gehman was a homemaker and a member of the Blue Ball Mennonite Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel R. Gehman, in 1996. Survivors include three sons, Melvin C. Gehman of Annville, Pa., John M. Gehman of Ephrata and Samuel G. Gehman of Peach Bottom, Pa.; three daughters, Janet M. Henry of Hephzibah, Joyce C. Quackenbos of Blythe and Ruth Ann Page of Maryville, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and sister, Elsie Martin of New Holland, Pa.
