William Godfrey
Mr. William Avery Godfrey, age 39 of Ellijay, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2007.
Mr. Godfrey was born May 29, 1968 in Gilmer County, the son of Bernard Godfrey and the late Marie Lovingood. He was employed by Stover Cabinet Co., was of the Baptist faith and was a lover of gospel music and played piano for the Gospel Melody Trio.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Howard Godfrey of the home; son, Justin Godfrey, Ellijay; father, Bernard Godfrey, Jasper; sister, Janet McVey, Ellijay; father- and step-mother-in-law, Roy and Judy Padgett, Dawsonville; mother- and step-father-in-law, Jeannie and David Harmon, Jasper. Two nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, June 1 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Revs. Billy Waters and Eddie Caine officiating. Music was by the Ebenezer Baptist Church Choir and the Gospel Melody Trio. Pallbearers were Alan Davenport, David Tanner, Gerald Stanley, Ronnie Wright, Buster Stover, David Merrelle and Brent Chastain. Interment was at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.
Leonard Richardson
Mr. Leonard Hugh Richardson, age 58 of Marietta, passed away Friday, June 1, 2007.
Mr. Richardson owned and operated Trim Masters. He was a member of East Cobb Baptist Church and was a Deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Dana Richardson, Marietta; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Steve Thurman, Talking Rock; son, Daniell A. Richardson, Marietta; granddaughter, Katie Thurman, Talking Rock; sister, Dorothy Silvers, Ellijay; and brothers, Harold Richardson, Kennesaw, and Jimmie Richardson, Waco, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, June 4 at 2 p.m. from East Cobb Baptist Church. Burial was at Rolling Hills Cemetery. The Revs. David York, Daniel Golden, Danny Gravitt and Gerald Dickerson officiated. Woodstock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Kate Little
Mrs. Kate Byess Little, age 82 of Canton, passed away Friday, June 1, 2007 at the Canton Nursing Center.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Ronnie Queen and Scottie and Bobby Bates, all of Canton; sisters and brother-in-law, Lucille and Horace Kirk, Talking Rock, Betty Parks, Pendergrass, and Ruby Wall, Cartersville; sister-in-law, Inga Byess, Woodstock; and grandchildren, Raquel May, Stacy Hall, Lisa DeHart, Lee Queen, Lori Roland and Bobby Bates. Seven great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, June 3 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. David Byess officiating. Interment was in Jackson Memorial Gardens in Commerce, Ga. at 2 p.m. Pallbearers were: Steve Kirk, Dan Byess, Frankie Wall, Bobby Bates and Lee Queen.
Virginia Reid
Mrs. Virginia Reid, age 70 of Big Canoe, Ga., passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, David Reid, and daughter, Deedee Reid, both of Big Canoe; daughters and son-in-law, Hope and Joe Gibson and Misty Reid; son and daughter-in-law, Art and Mary Reid, all of Atlanta; brother, Bill Forehand, Rockville, Md. Five grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at Big Canoe Chapel with the Rev. Lamar Helms and Dr. Jim McCormick officiating. Roy McClanahan
Mr. Roy D. McClanahan, age 58 of Talking Rock, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Annette McClanahan, Talking Rock; mother-in-law, Ruby Stone, Jasper; son, Buddy McClanahan, California; step-son, Jeff Warren, Rockville, Md.; daughters, Keri Dymerski, Canton, and Kristi McClanahan, Baltimore, Md.; step-daughter, Tammy Bullard, Columbus, Ga.; brothers, Joe McClanahan, Tampa, Fl., and Pat McClanahan, North Carolina; sisters, Lollie Schmidt, Valrico, Fl., Peggy Cooksey, Tampa, Fl., and Rita Way, Lawrenceville, Pa; brothers-in-law, Bob and Judy Stone and Jim and Diane Stone, all of Jasper, and Larry and Vickie Stone, Cumming; granddaughters, Scarlett Bullard, Jenna Warren, Rachel Warren, Hannah Dymerski; and grandson, Matthew Dymerski. Nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. McClanahan was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Bullard.

Joe Hughes
Joe Hughes, age 57 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital following a sudden illness.
A native of Dawson County, he had lived in Pickens County for the past 15 years. Mr. Hughes worked as a carpenter in residential construction and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in the Ludville community. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he was preceded in death by his father, Warren Hughes.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Hughes, Jasper; daughter, Leah Wright, Jasper; mother, Monnie Hughes, Dawsonville; sisters, Norma Chason, Lake Taxaway, N.C., and Judy Hendrix, Cumming; and grandchildren, Victoria and Christian Wright.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, June 5 at 11 a.m. from Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Travis Childers and Pastor Ricky Stepp officiated. Interment was in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mary Gleason
Mrs. Mary Ruth Swafford Gleason, age 63 of Ludville, Ga., passed away
Wednesday evening, May 31, 2006 at the residence of a caring niece, Mrs.
Jerri Sue Blanchard in Cartersville, Ga.
Mrs. Gleason was born on August 26, 1942 in Cobb County, Ga., the
daughter of the late Robert and Mary Tava Stone Swafford. She was also
preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gleason, and by brothers, Onis,
Leyman and Bill Swafford. Mrs. Gleason was a homemaker and member of the
Ludville Church of God.
Survivors include her sisters and brothers-in-law, Lily and Dan Ard of
Fayetteville, Ga. and Manda and Edward Townsend of Ludville; brother and
sister-in-law, Vester and Mary Lou Swafford of Douglasville, Ga. Other
relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Max
Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Luke Wheeler, Gerald Young and
Jacky Swafford officiating. Singing was arranged by the Rev. Jacky and Rene
Swafford. Pallbearers were: Wallace, Ralph, Joe, Ronnie, Randy and Waylon
Swafford, Ronnie Stone and Greg Hood. Burial followed in the family lot of
the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Ludville.
Robert Reeves, Sr.
Mr. Robert Charles “Bob” Reeves, Sr., age 79 of the Hinton Community of
Pickens County, passed away Monday, May 29, 2006 at Piedmont Hospital in
Atlanta, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Hamrick Reeves; sons, Robert, Jr. and
Rick Reeves and Chuck Drude; and daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie Reeves.
Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, May 31 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel
of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Joey Buice officiating. Interment
followed in the Hinton Community Cemetery. The family did accept flowers or
donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Henry Del Castillo, Sr.
Mr. Henry Del Castillo, Sr., age 88 of Jasper, formerly of Tampa, Fl.,
Passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2006. He was born Dec. 18, 1917. Mr. Del
Castillo attended Cornerstone Church and served as a volunteer at the
Community Food Bank.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Del Castillo, Jasper; sons and
daughters-in-law, Henry and Ruth Del Castillo, Robert Del Castillo, Texas,
Anthony Vargas, William and Ruby Vargas, Lawrence Vargas and David and Sara
Vargas, all of Florida, Sabastian and Gaye Vargas, Oregon, and Leo Vargas,
Montana; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Robert Lapinski, Christine
and William Parsons, Diane and Karl Bealke and Anita and Steve Ross;
brothers, Gus and Willie Castillo, both of Florida; and sister, Violet
Torres, Florida. Twenty-eight grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, three
great-great-grandchildren and various nephews, nieces and cousins also
survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Hilda
Garcia.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3 from Cagle
Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Rucker officiating. Entombment followed in
Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Henry, Jr. and Robert Del
Castillo, Robert, Jr., Rodney, Ronald and Richard Lapinski. Honorary
pallbearers were: Robert Lapinski, Sr., Bill Parsons, Karl Bealke and Steve
Ross. The family did accept flowers.
Dewey Holmes
Mr. Dewey Samson Holmes, age 83 of Marietta, Ga., passed away Thursday,
June 1, 2006 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Holmes of the home; son, Johnny
Holmes, Ellijay; brother, Winfield Holmes, Jasper; sisters, Jewell Thomason,
Jasper, and Brenice Eubanks of Maryville, Tn.; grandson, Jared Holmes; and
great-grandson, Calvin Patrick Holmes, both of Ellijay, Ga. Several nieces
and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3 from the Chapel
of Roper Funeral Home with interment in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper.

Guy Moss
Mr. Guy Moss, age 71 of Talking Rock, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2006
at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Moss, Talking Rock; sons, Richard
Moss, Talking Rock, and Doug Moss, Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy
and Tim Butler, Ludville Community; brothers, James Moss, Dallas, Charles
Moss, Winder, and Paul Moss, Waleska; sisters, Ruth Pool and Minnie Raynes,
both of Jasper. Four grandchildren, Heather and Daniel Butler and Joshua and
Amanda Moss also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, June 1 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel
of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Matt Wiggley and Billy Tatum
officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were:
Joshua Moss, Daniel Butler, Tim Crow, Michael Johnson Jerry and Danny Pool.
Lewis Wright
Retired Master Sergeant Lewis O. Wright, age 72 of Jasper, passed away
June 4, 2004 at his residence.
He entered the Army-Air Force in 1947 under the command of Gen. Lucius
Clay. Mr. Wright served in Germany during the Berlin Airlift and served in
Korea and Vietnam. He was 1st Sgt. of the Civil Engineer Department in
Charleston, S.C. and had served as 1st Sgt. with the 774 Tactical Air
Command in the Philippines.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Wright of Jasper; sons and
daughters-in-law, Lewis O. (Junior) and Terri Wright of Orlando Ormand
Beach, Fl. and Robert Allen and Joyce Wright of Jasper. Two grandchildren,
four great-grandchildren and several aunts and uncles also survive.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Sunrise Memorial
Gardens with the Rev. T.E. Flowers officiating. Local Chapter #47 DAV was in
charge of military graveside rites. The family requests in lieu of flowers,
please make memorials to Pickens Medical Supply, Amedisys Home Health or
Georgia Mountains Hospice. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Henry Hefner
Mr. Henry Hefner, age 90 of Jasper, passed away Monday, May 30, 2005 at
Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton.
Survivors include his sisters, Magdalene Millsap and Dora Jones, both of
Jasper; and sister-in-law, Jewell Hefner. Several nieces and nephews also
survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, June 1 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel
of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Brock officiating. Interment was
in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: David Mulkey,
Eddie Burleson, James Hefner, Leon Williams and Gene and Allen Jones.
Margie Boynton
Margie D. Boynton, age 81 of Ball Ground, passed away at her residence.
Survivors include her sons, Russell Boynton, Toccoa, and Rick Boynton,
Columbus; daughter, Pam Kline, Ball Ground; brothers, Jim Sumner,
Montgomery, Al., Samuel Sumner, Flowery Branch, Bobby Sumner, Jacksonville,
Fl., Carl Sumner, Green Cove Springs, Fl., and Graham Sumner, Philippines;
sisters, Katherine Gutherie, New Port News, Va., Gladys Hickman, Biloxi,
Ms., Nita Davis, Flowery Branch, Jane Blanton, Dansbich, Va., and Louise
Lyons, Rantoul, Il. Four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, several
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.

Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment was in Westview Mausoleum with Elder Roy
Faber officiating.
Charles Woody
Mr. Charles E. Woody, age 59 of McCaysville, went home to be with the
Lord Saturday evening, June 4, 2005. He was at his residence.
Survivors include his son, Charles Woody II, Macon, Ga.; daughters,
Nicki Ivey, Dallas, Ga., and Charleelaine Kealoha, Macon; brother, Jack
Woody, Fairmount, Ga.; sister, Betty Johnson, Rome, Ga. Twelve grandchildren
also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, June 7 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel
of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Von Hinton officiating. Interment was in
Sunrise Memorial Gardens with the Pickens County Chapter #47 DAV in charge
of graveside services. Pallbearers were: Kenneth Johnson, Percy Ivey, Josh
Gilleland, Steven Tavalez, William Boston and Gene Wilson.
Janie Sims
Mrs. Janie H. Sims, age 89 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006
at Mountain Healthcare in Jasper. She was preceded in death by her husband,
James Luther Sims; and son, James Lenning Sims.
Survivors include daughters, Gail Dobbins and Beverly White; sister,
Imogene Bradshaw; and daughter-in-law, Louise Sims. Seven grandchildren and
14 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9 from the Chapel of
Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Interment
followed in the Jasper City Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the
Jasper City Cemetery Fund.

Mr. Guy Moss, age 71 of Talking Rock, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006
at his residence.

Mrs. Gail Wofford Pendley, age 51 of Tate, Ga., passed away Thursday,
June 8, 2006 at her residence.
Survivors include her mother, Coleen Wofford, Jasper; sons and
daughters-in-law, Shane and Jill Pendley, Jasper, Todd and Kim Pendley,
Cherokee County, and Morgan Pendley, Tate; daughter, Heather Pendley, Tate;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Melva Wofford, Ball Ground, and Ricky
and Nancy Wofford, Jasper; sister, Rita Bailey, Jasper; and grandchildren,
Nathaniel, Ethan and Zachary Pendley.
The funeral service was held Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. from Talking
Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Buck Parker, Gene Childers, Harold
Johnson, Buddy Roper and Robert Allen officiating. Interment was in
Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Todd Pendley, Jim
and Don Quinton, Bobby Cook, James Morris, Charlie Carver, Larry Johnson and
