Vista White
Mrs. Vista Ann White, age 73 of Canton, passed away on
Monday, Sept. 13, 2004 at her residence. She was a homemaker and a
member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James White of Canton;
daughters, Teresa Peardon and Sherrie Key, both of Canton; sons,
Larry White of Ball Ground and Glenn and Ricky White, both of Canton;
brother, Jack Buchanan of Canton; and sister, Chectia Trout of
Jasper. Fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also
survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16
from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Mark Orr and Sanford
Fountain officiating. Interment followed in Shoal Creek Baptist
Church Cemetery.
Lynda Walker
Mrs. Lynda Hughes Walker, age 64 of Nelson, Ga., passed at her residence early Monday morning, Sept. 25, 2006.
Lynda was born and raised in Marietta, Ga. She graduated from Sprayberry High School and Reinhardt College. Lynda retired from Lockheed Martin Aircraft in 1997 and was a co-owner of Antiques-Treasures & More in Jasper.
Survivors include her husband, William Paul (Bill) Walker, Nelson; parents, Eugene D. and Edith Hughes, Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Karen Kirby, Dallas, Ga.; daughters and son-in-law, Camille and John Kemp, Nelson, and Ashley Wheeler, Taylorsville, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Greg and Dee Hughes, Ball Ground, Ga., and Gene and Kathy Hughes, College Park, Ga. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild survives.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Danny Spears, Kenneth Kirk and Roy Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Carroll Blanton, Tony Stewart, Ronnie Berry, J.L. Mashburn, Mark McLeod, Herbert and Sam Mason.
Garfield King
Mr. Garfield King, age 81 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Willamae King, Jasper; sons, James Henry King, Chatsworth, Ga., Richard Garfield King, Bowman, Ga., and James and Chris King, both of Jasper; daughter, Rebecca Young, Atlanta; sister, Molly Gibbs, Blue Ridge. Eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. James Queen and Roy Cloer officiating. An entombment service was held at Sunrise Memorial Gardens Chapel and Mausoleum with local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of military graveside services. Pallbearers were: Casey, James and Chris King, Morris Young, Lawrence Bell and John Watkins.
Russell Boehm
Russell F. Boehm, age 55 of Atlanta, passed away on Friday,
Sept. 22, 2006 at Emory University Hospital from complications of a brain hemorrhage.
Russell was a graduate of Loyola University in Chicago, Il. He was an entrepreneur and owned and operated several businesses during his lifetime. He enjoyed the outdoors, restoring antique clocks and classical music. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Marietta of Arcadia, Fl.; one son, Marc of Atlanta; and 10 brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his brother Matt.
The funeral service were held on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. at R.T. Patterson's Funeral Home in Lilburn, Ga.

Emily McBride
Emily Kay McBride, age 12, passed away on Sept. 21, 2006 in Frisco, Tx.. She was born on August 3, 1994 in Kennesaw, Ga. to Tammy (Deal) Sterling and Stephen McBride. She attended Wester Middle School in Frisco.
Emily is survived by her mother, Tammy and Sam (Poppy) Sterling of Frisco; sister, Jessica McBride of Frisco; grandparents, Tom and Patricia Deal of Statesboro, Ga.; grandmother, Mamie (Mema) Long of Statesboro, G; aunts and uncles, Jason Deal and his wife D.J. and Todd Deal and his wife Karen of Statesboro; step-sisters, Shoshana, Shira, Shayna Sterling of Omaha, Ne.; cousins, Abbie and Anna Deal. Her great-grandfather, Roger Deal, preceded her in death.

Eugene Bradford
Mr. Eugene Franklin Bradford, age 77 of Ranger, Ga., passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Bradford was a retired air traffic controller for the FAA. He was a member of the First Christian Church in College Park.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Bradford; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Kimberly Bradford of Jasper; two grandchildren, Eli and Mason Bradford; nephews, Larry Crumbley and Mark Loudermilk; and nieces, Cindy Peterlin and Paige Yarbrough.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Dr. Charlie Boggan officiating. Interment followed in Crest Lawn Cemetery in Atlanta.
Claude Marshall
Mr. Claude "Ted" Marshall, age 66 of Jasper, passed away on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 at Piedmont Hospital.
Survivors include his sons, Grady Marshall of Acworth and Billy Marshall of Ellijay; daughters, Barbara Ann Ray of Jasper, Debbie Green of Emerson and Regina Swaney of Canton; sister, May Milner of Canton. Thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Barber officiating. Interment followed in Hickory Flat Cemetery.

Virginia Chastain
Mrs. Virginia D. Chastain, age 66 of Nelson, Ga., passed at her residence Saturday morning, Sept. 23, 2006.
Mrs. Chastain was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was their song leader for eight years.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Chastain, Nelson; son, Randy Chastain, Nelson; daughter, Dale Chastain, Nelson; brothers, Kenneth and Carolyn Martin, Clarksville, Ga., and Robert Lee Martin, Lula, Ga.; sisters, Paulette Moody and Ronnie Pool, Gillsville, Ga., and Joyce Ann and Norman Boswell, Maysville, Ga. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.

Geneva Dernus
Mrs. Geneva Fowler Dernus, age 83, passed into the arms of the Lord on Sept. 20, 2006 in Jasper, Ga.
Her joyful spirit lives on in all that have known and loved her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose kind and compassionate ways will be greatly missed.
Geneva was the daughter of Floyd and Decie Garland Fowler of East Ellijay, Ga. and sister of Pauline Cochran, Eva Gibson, Beaula (Newman) Welch and Bertha Gentry.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Judy Buczko and husband Ed, Janet Gloeggler and husband John, Gary Dernus and wife Lori and Robert Dernus. Geneva's grandchildren are Jennifer, Amy, Eric, Cori, Nicole and Gary Michael and her great-grandchildren are Taylor, Blake, Jourdyn Elizabeth, Anaka, Logan and Luke.
Geneva was known best for her award-winning coconut cake and her beautiful flower garden. She was blessed with many friendships and was clearly loved by many. We take comfort knowing she is at peace and together with her parents and sisters who are with the Lord.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper with Father Frank Richardson officiating. Music was by Cathy Poirier. Pallbearers were: John, Tim and Ken Gentry, Gary M. Dernus, Frank Riegler, Jordon Crowl and Lester Eisenhart. Interment followed in East Ellijay Baptist Church Cemetery in East Ellijay under the direction of Bernhardt Funeral Home.

Sally Phelps
Ms. Sally Ann Phelps, age 57 of Jasper, passed Friday evening, Sept. 22, 2006 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include her mother, Bergetta Phelps, Jasper; brothers, Ernest Gifford, Detroit, Mi., Gary Gifford, Forsyth, Ga., Terry Phelps, California, Michael and David Phelps, both of Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A family visitation was held Sunday and Monday at Cagle Funeral Home. The remains were transferred to the Brown Funeral Home, Flint, Mi., Tuesday evening for funeral services to be held Friday, Sept. 29. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery.
Mary Moss
Mary Veo Moss, age 87 of Marietta, passed away Sunday Sept. 24, 2006.
Born in rural North Georgia, Gordon County, one of seven children of Tom and Lillie Duckett, her family moved to Talking Rock in Pickens County. Mamma married Weldon Moss on Nov. 4, 1939 and they have been together through WW II, six children and more family dinners, biscuits, fried apple pies and canned goods than can be counted. She was a long-time member of Welcome Grove Baptist Church in Marietta. God's love shined through her every day and brightened life for all she touched.
Survivors include her husband, Weldon G. Moss of Marietta; daughters and sons-in-law, Wylene and Warren Martek of Pembroke Pines, Fl. and Betty and Ken Wilson of Powder Springs, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Dianne Moss of Marietta, Mike and Rochelle Moss of Alexandria, Va. and Larry and Alison Moss of Canton, Ga. Twelve grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Moss was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Cannon, and son-in-law, Phillip Cannon.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta with the Rev. Hubert Woodward officiating. Burial was in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
James Sims
Mr. James Lenning Sims, age 68 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Sept.
21, 2005 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Sims, Jasper; mother, Janie Sims,
Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, David and Gail Sims, Jasper; daughter and
son-in-law, Sharon and Teddy Childers, Jasper; sisters, Beverly White,
Jasper, and Gail Dobbins, Woodstock; and three grandchildren, Abby Sims,
Nathan Childers and Stephanie Burndt, all of Jasper.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. from Sharptop
Baptist Church with the Revs. Edwin Weaver and Gary Reavis officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: David Sims,
Teddy Childers, Hollis Stamey, Maurice Gooch, Robbie Heard and Van White.

James Blackwell
Mr. James H. Blackwell, age 80 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away
Wednesday morning, Sept. 14, 2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in
Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby B. Blackwell, Talking Rock;
step-daughter, Vivian Quinton, Talking Rock; brother, the Rev. Leroy
Blackwell, Nelson; sister, Frankie Nell Dunn, Marietta; half-sister, Mattie
Sue Sheriff, Gainesville; sister-in-law, Mattie Joe Blackwell, Canton; and
grandchildren, Thomas and Kathy Quinton and Ricky and Connie Holmes, all of
Talking Rock. Six great-grandchildren also survive.

of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Leroy Blackwell and Danny Townsend

Jordan Hardy
Infant Jordan Elizabeth Hardy of Jasper passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14,
2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Medical Center.
She is survived by her parents, Mary and Gary Hardy, Jr. of Jasper;
brother, Josh Coleman of Jasper; grandparents, Mary and Gary Hardy, Sr. and
A.C. and Gail Coleman; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Reon G. Hillegaso,
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hardy, the late William and Ruth Fitts and Dorothy and
Ernest Coleman.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 from the
Bethesda Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy Kelley officiating. Roper
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jimmy Rittenberry
Jimmy Thomas Rittenberry loved his family, a good practical joke and
making a trade.
He died Sept. 22, 2005 at his home surrounded by family after a battle
with cancer.
Rittenberry, 71 of Talking Rock, Ga., was born on June 23, 1934. He grew
up in Whitestone, Ga. and was the son of the late Rev. Tom and Ada
Rittenberry.
He asked his wife Dorothy on a date on a dare. He walked up to her on the
porch and asked her out. She was reading a book and didn’t think her parents
would allow it. Jimmy set a date and said he would be back. They celebrated
their 49th wedding anniversary on August 5, 2005.
He was a member of Whitestone Baptist Church for 45 years. Mr.
Rittenberry was a member of the Blaine Masonic Lodge and recently received
his 50-year pin and apron. He was also past master at this lodge.
Mr. Rittenberry spent time with his children as they grew up. His nieces
and nephews remember many swimming trips and their Uncle Jimmy participating
in everything from horse riding to motorcycles.
All of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew him as “Pappy.” He
enjoyed spending time with them.
Mr. Rittenberry enjoyed gardening with Dorothy and had a larger garden
than expected this year. He would work in his vegetable garden and have to
stop at the end of the row to retain his strength.
His home was a small farm filled with horses, miniature ponies, donkeys,
goats, chickens and dogs. Mr. Rittenberry was known as “Pop” at the weekly
horse sales he attended with his sons and nephew. He enjoyed riding horses
and would go where any teenager attempted to ride. Mr. Rittenberry rode in
the Wagon Train in Chatsworth several years ago.
Mr. Rittenberry was a great tradesman who could get a good price for
anything he tried to sell. He typically came out on top of a trade.
Family, friends and co-workers remember the jokes that Mr. Rittenberry
would play on them and others to get a good laugh.
He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation road crew. He
also worked at Carter’s Dam, Georgia Marble and Wayne Anderson Construction.
He was a jack-of-all-trades. He was loved by all.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of the home; sons and
daughters-in-law, Larry and Dale Rittenberry of Ellijay, Gary and Brenda
Rittenberry and Randy Rittenberry, all of Talking Rock; daughter and
son-in-law, Arlene and Ricky Bryan of Ellijay; brother and sister-in-law,
Lloyd and Betty Rittenberry of Whitestone; and sister and brother-in-law,
Sally and LeRoy Stenberg of Ellijay. Eight grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. from Town Creek
Baptist Church with Minister Butch Jones and the Revs. Marvin Young and
Russell Hood officiating. The following served as pallbearers: Ricky and
Daniel Rittenberry, Shane Logan, Tommy Stenberg, Robert Burton and Jason
Hightower. Honorary pallbearers were: Tim, Mark and Sanford Rittenberry,
Lamar, Chad and Greg Logan, Tim Hyde and William Reece. Interment followed
in the church cemetery. Blaine Lodge #534 was in charge of the Masonic
graveside rites. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Reggie White
Mr. Reggie White, age 80 of Marietta and formerly of Pickens County,
Passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24, 2005 at Portsbridge of Dunwoody
Hospice.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, David and Teresa White
of Woodstock and Wayne and Cindi White of Smyrna. Six grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren and a sweetheart, Montene Pilgrim of Jasper, also
survive.
Mr. White was retired from Lockheed Aircraft Company in Marietta and was
a WW II veteran having served in the US Army.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. from Tate United
Methodist Church with Dr. J. Larry Hannah and the Rev. Tim Pearson
officiating. Interment followed in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with
Pickens County Chapter #47 DAV in charge of military graveside services.
Jerry Woodall, Billy White, Rodney Brown, Gerald Porto, Phillip, Jeffrey and
Patrick White, Jerry Woodall and James Wingo served as pallbearers.

Ruth Asher
Mrs. Ruth Vaughn Asher, age 82 of Bent Tree and formerly of Tucker, Ga.,
went to be with the Lord Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Sallye and David Smith of
Bent Tree and Gina Brown of Chamblee; grandson, Parker Smith;
granddaughters, Kellie Kicklighter and Lisa Pettit; great-grandchildren,
Chase and Dallas Kicklighter and Emily and Jared Pettit; and niece, Toni
Mantarri.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home. The family will accept flowers; however, these
floral offerings should be house-type arrangements.
Martha Almond
Mrs. Martha P. Almond, age 81 of Jasper, passed away at her residence
early Monday morning, Sept. 26, 2005.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Dianne Almond,
Jasper, and Thomas E. and Sharon Almond, Hinton; brothers, Grady Prather,
Florida, and T.J. Prather, Jasper; sister, Ruth Burgess, Jasper; and
grandchildren, Dawn, Pam and Shane Almond.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 28 from the Chapel of Cagle
Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Jarvis officiating. Interment followed in
Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery with Garry, Tim, James and Terry Prather,
Stanley Burgess and Randall Simmons serving as pallbearers.
