Guerrant Perrow
Guerrant Heath Perrow, 87, of Jasper died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005.
For over 50 years he served Jasper and Pickens County as a family practice
physician. Following his retirement from private practice in April of
the past year, he continued his medical service by volunteering at the Good
Samaritan Wellness Center. As a kind, compassionate and extremely
qualified physician, he delivered hundreds of babies, counseled patients with
both physical and emotional needs, and supervised medical students. He was
named Georgia Family Physician of the Year in 1984. He was a past president
of the Georgia Academy of Family Practice and was also active in the Medical
Association of Georgia. He combined his love of aviation with his love
of medicine as an enthusiastic member of the Flying Physicians
Association. A World War II veteran, he remained in the Air Force Reserve for many
years.
He was a faithful servant of his Lord and his church, First Baptist
of Jasper, where he was an ordained deacon and sang in the Sanctuary and
Joy Choirs, taught Conversational English and played his autoharp and sang
with children. He also volunteered countless hours through the years as a
member of the Jasper Lions Club and other service organizations. His
contributions to the community were more than good works; they were acts of love, for
he truly believed it was his mission in life to serve others. His
community honored him by selecting him as Pickens Countyıs Citizen of the Year
and presenting him the Golden Deeds Award.
A great lover of literature and music, he enjoyed attending plays
at Oglethorpe University, his alma mater. While attending University of
Louisville Medical School, he met the greatest love of his life, Jean
Duncan, with whom he shared 51 years of a wonderfully blessed marriage
until her death in 1999. His family and friends were his greatest treasures.
He is survived by their children, Janet Vardaman, Margo and son-in-law Ken
Austin, and Charles Perrow of Jasper. His grandchildren are Jeffrey and Ryan
Austin and Laura Miller. He recently held his new great-granddaughter, Mercy
Elizabeth Austin. Many other family members and friends were dear to
him.

Jasper with Reverends Charlie Boggan and Charles Walker officiating,
followed by interment at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The deacons of First
Baptist Church served as pallbearers with the Gideon Sunday School
