Com. Donald Price Orrill
Commander Donald Price Orrill, USN (Ret.), passed away in his sleep at the New Glarus Home on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006.
He was born in Fairmont, Mo. in 1926 and was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1948, having attended Washburn University, Rice University, and the U.S. Naval School. Commander Orrill served on four ships and received eight medals during his twenty years as a supply officer. He retired in 1965 and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper, Ga. He was very proud of having established a benevolent fund for employees of Bent Tree, where he enjoyed feeding the local deer, turkey and bears. He retired again to Madison to be closer to his children.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ethel R. Orrill; and five children, Donna McCarthy Beckett (Dale) of Madison, Marilyn Orrill Gossett (David Roquemore) of Calhoun, Ga., Stephen Price Orrill (Sharea) of Cando, N.D., Christine Sears (John) of Boone, N.C. and Susan Gaston (Don) of Central City, Ky.; six grandchildren; and his sister, Judith (Wayne) Bruder of Blue Springs, Mo.
He loved his wife, his family, his church, the Navy and his country. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts in his name to the United Church of Christ in New Glarus, Wi. or the First Baptist Church of Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29 at Cress Funeral Home in Madison, Wi. Interment with full military honors followed at Sunset Memory Gardens following the service.
Kenneth Cochran
The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the memorial service for Mr. Kenneth Samuel, better known as "Kenny" Cochran, age 38 of Mineral Bluff, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., who passed away on Monday, Sept. 25, 2006.
He loved camping, fishing and boating. Kenny always made his friends and family laugh and he will always be remembered in the spirit of love and laughter.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Joanne and Charles Cessac of Mineral Bluff, Ga.; father and step-mother, David H. and Kathy Cochran of Ft. The memorial service was conducted Saturday, Sept. 30 at 11:30 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel.
Thelma Sams
Mrs. Thelma Rowena Sams, age 90 of Jasper, Ga., passed away at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Mrs. Sams is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Carol Sams of Jasper; and sister, Opal Hendrix of Houston, Tx.
A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 at Cherokee Memorial Park with the Rev. John Reale officiating. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Bertha Ray
Mrs. Bertha Ray, age 104 of the Hinton Community, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Mattie Ray, Hinton; daughters and son-in-law, Willie Mae and Charles Mullinax, Hinton, and Azzie Lee Silvers, Cartersville; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Ray, Jerusalem. Ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. from Hinton United Methodist church with the Rev. Jim Schlicht and Johnny Barnes officiating. Clara Payne
Mrs. Clara B. (Pud) Payne, age 76 of Talking Rock, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Carson Payne, Talking Rock; son, Tracy (Bud) Payne, Talking Rock; daughters, Nancy Grizzle and Lisa Payne, both of Talking Rock; brothers, Robert Matthews, Canton, Coy and Phillip Matthews, both of Talking Rock; sisters, Ellen Matthews, Fay Godfrey and Elizabeth Goble, all of Talking Rock, and Lonnie Mae Keeter, Cairo, Ga.; and grandchildren, Gary Simmons, Chris Cheshire and Hanna and Haley Payne. Nine great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3 from Town Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Cliff Nelson, Rembert Hancock and Carl Owenby officiating. Clarence Robinson, Jr.
Mr. Clarence Robinson, Jr., age 76 of Canton, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of the Canton Moose Lodge, American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his sons, Robert Robinson, Orlando, Fl., Dale Robinson, Marble Hill, Danny Robinson, Dallas, and David Allen Robinson, Calhoun; daughters, Brenda Dyer and Gwenda Robinson, both of Canton; sisters, Dorothy Hedges, Dallas, and Helen Moore, New Jersey. Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

John Grimes
Mr. John Robert Grimes, age 79, passed away Sept. 27, 2006 from complications of Parkinson's disease.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Velma, of 54 years; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Melinda Grimes of Cartersville; son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Tracy, Kim and Tracey Lee Grimes, Jr. of Cartersville; granddaughter, Jessica Corbitt of Atlanta; grandsons, Dallas Corbitt of Valparaiso, Fl. and John Grimes of Tampa, Fl.; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Corbitt, Joshua Grimes and Miranda Dominguez. Family and friends will cherish the memory easy-going disposition, his dedication to family and his example of hard work.
Born in Newnan July 11, 1927, Robert was the only son among Lee Otis and Nellie Grimes' six children. He served in the US Army in Germany and Austria in the days following World War II. Following his Army service, he found work in Atlanta as a mechanic with John Smith Chevrolet, staying with the company for more than 40 years. He and Velma settled in Marietta to raise their family. During his retirement years, they ran a booth at YesterYear Flea Market.
"Poppie," as he was known to his grandchildren, enjoyed camping with the family at Lake Altoona and in the north Georgia mountains.
Other survivors include his sisters, Bessie Thompson and Barbara Jean Robertson of Newnan, and Lunelle Doggett of Alabama; brothers-in-law, Edward and Milton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dolores Grimes Corbitt, and his sisters, Tommie Avery and Ruth Floyd.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. from the Owen Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, Sept. 30 with the Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating. Interment followed at Rolling Hills Cemetery, Acworth.
Infant Joebe Morris
Infant Joebe Colton Morris, age 3 months, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006.
Survivors include his mother, April Turner of Marble Hill; father, Stevie Morris of Marble Hill; brothers, Tucker and Kevin White, both of Marble Hill, Devan and Damon Morris, both of Blue Ridge; sisters, Audrey and Raina Morris, both of Ball Ground; grandfather, Larry Turner, Canton; and great-grandmother, Winnie Turner of Canton. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Kenny Lively and Clarence Stanley officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalcedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Reggie White
Mr. Reggie White, age 80 of Marietta and formerly of Pickens County,
Passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24, 2005 at Portsbridge of Dunwoody
Hospice.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, David and Teresa White
of Woodstock and Wayne and Cindi White of Smyrna. Six grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren and a sweetheart, Montene Pilgrim of Jasper, also
survive.
Mr. White was retired from Lockheed Aircraft Company in Marietta and was
a WW II veteran having served in the US Army.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. from Tate United
Methodist Church with Dr. J. Larry Hannah and the Rev. Larry Pearson
officiating. Interment followed in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with
Pickens County Chapter #47 DAV in charge of military graveside services.
Jerry Woodall, Billy White, Rodney Brown, Gerald Porto, Phillip, Jeffrey and
Patrick White, Jerry Woodall and James Wingo served as pallbearers.

J.L. Hendrix
Mr. J.L. Hendrix, age 51 of Ranger, Ga., passed away Thursday, Sept. 29,
2005 at the Cartersville Medical Center following a heart attack.
Mr. Hendrix was born on August 18, 1954 in Pickens County, the son of the
late Leonard and Viney Beatrice Marshall Hendrix. He was a graduate of
Fairmount High School. Besides being employed with Shaw Industries as a
sew-on operator, Mr. Hendrix enjoyed reading the Holy Bible and being with
his family. He visited flea markets and was a member of Sonora Lodge #221
F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, the former Deborah Carol Payne, to whom he
was married for 25 years; daughter, Alecia Hendrix and husband Todd of
Cartersville, Ga.; sister, Margie Duvall if Ila, Ga.; brothers, Kenneth,
Renith and Marvin Hendrix, all of Ranger. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and
cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday at 3 p.m. from the Bradley Anderson
Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. G.W. Shaw,
Keith Reid and Hoyt Godfrey officiating. Singing was arranged by the Hendrix
Family. Pallbearers were: Randall, Allen, Dewayne and Ronald Lee Hendrix,
Junior Densmore, Doug Shaw and David Long. Honorary pallbearers were all
Masons. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery near Ludville with the Gordon
County Memorial Masonic Association conducting the Masonic graveside rites.
Lucille McCollum
Mrs. Lucille Carver McCollum, age 79 of Orchard Road, passed away Friday,
Sept. 23, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born Sept. 3, 1926 in Pickens County, the daughter of the late
Ernest Lee and Annie Simmons Carver. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist
faith. Her husband, J.L., and daughter, Judy, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry McCollum of Madison and Billy McCollum
of Ellijay; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy
Anderson of Ellijay; and brothers, J.D. and E.C. Carver, both of Talking
Rock.
The funeral service was held on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. from the
Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Arnold officiating.
Music was by Melvin Davis, Bobby Lowery, Eddie Alread and Brittany Burnette.
Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Infant William Currie
Infant William Tyler “Ty” Currie of Talking Rock passed away Sunday, Oct.
2, 2005 in Cherokee County.
Survivors include his father and mother, Jeffery and Natasha Childers
Currie; brother Skyler Currie; grandparents, Jeff and Debbie Currie of
Canton and Scott and Andrea Childers of Talking Rock; great-grandparents,
Lillian Green, Roy and Evelyn Thomason, Harley and Janice Childers, Patricia
and Robert Lynch; great-great-grandfather, Theodore Childers. Aunts, uncles
and cousins also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 from the
County Line Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery
with the Revs. Jerry Barnes and Roger Burgess officiating. Roper Funeral

Hoyt Fain
Mr. Hoyt Fain, age 89 of Bent Tree (Jasper), Ga., passed at the
residence of his daughter in Marietta on Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2005.
Mr. Fain was employed for 40 years with Georgia Power Company and had
worked at Plant Hammond in Rome, Ga. as the turbin operator supervisor.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Sonia and James Locklear,
Marietta, and Marcia Aycock, Rome, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Snow Fain, Sebring,
Fl.; grandchildren, Candice Aycock, Jim and Tim Locklear, Lisa Piazza and
Jason Fain; great-grandchildren, Sean and Kerry Locklear and Garrielle
Aycock. Mr. Fain was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Riggins Fain,
to whom he had been married for 65 years, and a son, Maurice Fain.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. from Salem
Baptist Church (Gilmer) with the Rev. Billy Emmett officiating. Interment
followed in the church cemetery with Scott Perry, George Avery, R.L. Fain,
Tim Locklear, Roy Stephens and Harold Underwood serving as pallbearers.

Ray Harrison
Mr. Ray Harrison, age 63 of Jasper, Ga., born in Cairo, Ga., passed away
Sept. 29, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. Harrison served in the Air Force from 1962-68. He was a member of
Pembroke JCs and served as a JC officer. He moved to Meigs, Ga. in 1973
where he served as city councilman for three terms. He was owner of H&H
Insurance which consisted of H&H Realty and H&H Properties. Mr. Harrison
served as Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Meigs. In Meigs, he was farm
market manager and Southeast sales manager. He was with Davis Water &
Waste/U.S. Filter as outside salesman. In Canton he was service center
manager then the service center director for a total of 16 years. Mr.
Harrison retired from Kaiser Agriculture after 20 years which he served as
office manager and outside salesman.
Survivors include his wife, Vidette Harrison, Jasper; son and
daughter-in-law, Kerry and Linda Harrison, Los Angeles, Ca.; brothers,
George Harrison, Florida, Virgil Harrison, South Carolina, and Randy
Harrison, Roswell; sisters, Ruth Bush, Bainbridge, Ga., and Ruby Sellers,
Havana, Fl.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 from Open Door
Baptist Church on Hill City Road, Jasper. Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. at
Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel in Hinesville, Ga. with service in the
funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3. Interment followed in Elim
Baptist Church Cemetery in Ludowici, Ga. with the Revs. Jerry McClure and
Gary Beard officiating. Cagle Funeral Home, Jasper, and Carter Funeral Home
in Hinesville were in charge of the arrangements.
Blanche Gardner
Mrs. Blanche Patterson Gardner, age 90 of Tate, passed away Friday, Sept.
30, 2005 at Sylvester Health Care.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Charlie Mullis,
Leesburg, Ga. Three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also
survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Cool Springs Baptist
Church with the Rev. Steve Wigington officiating. Interment followed in the
church cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: Glenn Densmore, Jr.
and Sr., Bobby and Blake Densmore, Chuck and Jack Moore. The family requests

J.T. Kown
Mr. J.T. Kown, age 71 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005 at
Providence Hospital in Mobile, Al.
Survivors include his wife, Margarette Kown, Jasper; son and
daughter-in-law, Jay and Christy Kown, Marietta; daughters and
sons-in-law,
Teresa and Jack Roper, Kathy and Marty Garland and Marla Kown, all of
Jasper; and six grandchildren, Jessica and Julie Anne Roper, Bryce Goss,
Chase Garland, Brooks Cartledge and Meg Kown.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. from Jasper
First Baptist Church with Dr. Charlie Boggan and the Rev. Charles O. Walker
officiating. Interment was in Jasper City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Tom,
David and John Lindsey, Mike Daly, Mike Norton, Robin Darnell and Zack
Melda. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to Jasper

Andy Dominy
Andy Stephen Dominy, age 52 of Jasper, went to be with the Lord on
Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005. Andy was born Sept. 9, 1952. He was employed by
Bellsouth Entertainment of Roswell for seven years and was a veteran of the
US Army. He was preceded in death by his father, R.H. Dominy, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Lynn Dominy; mother, Mrs. Zelda
Dominy; son, Jason Dominy and wife April; daughter, Andrea Dominy; stepsons,
Nicholas and Sean Oliver; brothers and sisters-in-law, Reg and Melba
Dominy,Greg and Ruth Dominy and Paul and Linda Dominy; and sister, Kathy
Shell. Many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends also survive. He is loved by
all and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service was held in his honor at Cool Springs Baptist Church
in Tate, Ga. on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. Sosebee Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Leota Mahone
Mrs. Leota Butler Mahone, age 93 of Jasper, passed away Dec. 2, 2004 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Mrs. Mahone was a former resident of Miami. She was a member of the University Baptist Church and worked many years as a volunteer at Fellowship of Blind. Mrs. Mahone was a tutorial English teacher at the University Of Miami to foreign students.
Survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, John Marshall Jr. and Nancy Mahone of Dahlonega; daughters and son-in-law, Betty Mahone and Roger Hall of Jasper and Jane Mahone and Bari Webster, Blacksburg, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, William O. and Lib Butler of Montgomery, Al.; three grandchildren, Jeffery McConaughy, Jane Ellen Beasley and Bryant Hendricks; and great-grandchildren, Cliff and Ross Beasley.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fellowship of Blind.
