James McGillis
James B. McGillis, age 74 of Marietta, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002.
Mr. McGillis was a structural engineer until his retirement. He served in both the US Army and Air Force obtaining the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was a Georgia Tech graduate and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cochran McGillis of Marietta; son, James E. McGillis of Marietta; daughter, Kathy Ann McGillis of New Orleans, La.; brother, Mickey McGillis of Memphis, Tn. One granddaughter also survives.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna with Chaplain Greg Pocock officiating. Burial was in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pat Galluzzo
Mr. Pat J. Galluzzo, age 82 of Monterey Park, Ca., passed away Sept. 28, 2002 in California. He was a veteran of WW II in Egypt and a skilled electrician in his working life.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Keeter Galluzzo of California; one sister, Catherine Galluzzo Smith, Charlestown, N.H.; one nephew, James Galluzzo, Gorham, N.H.; one niece, Pauline Cadaret, Margate, Fl. Other nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service was held on Oct. 6 in the Keeter Family Cemetery with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Tommy Bunch, Larry Burgess, Roy Collis, Tracy Forrest, Randy Lacy and Freddie Ray.
Mike Mundy
Mr. Mike Mundy, age 52 of Twin Mountain Lake Road, Talking Rock, passed away Sept. 27, 2002 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Mundy of Talking Rock; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy and Rhonda Mundy, Marble Hill, and Chris and Kim Mundy, Kinglsey, Pa.; one brother, Joe Mundy, Priest River, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Lennon and Johnny Mundy.
The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church in Pickens County with the Revs. Moss Fountain, Neil McKenzie and Ron Rucker officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Barry, Tracy and Chris Mundy, Sam Stancil, Lionel Alexander and Ron Cochran.
Reta Stancil
Mrs. Reta Stancil, age 71 of Yellow Creek Community, Ball Ground, Ga., passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Broughton Stancil, Yellow Creek; one son, Mark Stancil, Yellow Creek; three daughters, Susan Roper and Ann Reagan, both of Yellow Creek, and Dawn Hopkins, Ball Ground. Twelve grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Elmer Stowe and Danny Hyatt officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton. The following served as pallbearers: Tony, Max and Guy Stancil Jr., Richard and William Haithcock and Steve Tippens. The family will accept flowers or donations to In-Home Hospice.
Roy Floyd Jr.
Mr. Roy Floyd Jr., age 76 of Woodbine, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at Golden Isle Hospice in Brunswick, Ga. He was a veteran of WW II, a Mason, Shriner, a member of Habitat for Humanity and on the Board of Directors of Camden County.
Survivors include his son, Terry K. Floyd, Woodbine; brother, Terry L. Floyd; sisters, Anne Stanfield, Jasper, and Jackie McGee; grandchildren, Nathan Tyre Floyd and Catherine Lindsey Floyd.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Gordon Allen
Mr. Gordon Ernest Allen, age 91 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Dossie Mae Allen of Talking Rock; one son, Kenneth Allen of Talking Rock; and one grandson, Gregory Scott Allen.
The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 7 from County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Eubanks officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lorene Cantrell
Mrs. Lorene S. Cantrell, age 60 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe E. Stamey and Myrtle Stamey Poole; sisters, Helen Stamey and Ruby Heard; and brother, Clay Stamey.
Survivors include her husband, William H. Cantrell; daughters and sons-in-law, Willene and Ronnie Morris and Wanda and Darrell Morris, all of Jasper; mother-in-law, Bonnie Cantrell of Jasper; brothers, Paul Stamey of Alpharetta and Howard and Hollis Stamey, both of Jasper; sisters, Lona Buchanan of Marble Hill, Louise Sims and Ruth Ware, both of Jasper; grandchildren, Matthew and Miranda West and Michael and Kevin Morris, all of Jasper; step-grandchildren, Chad and Amanda Morris of Nelson and Darrin Morris of Jasper; step-great-grandchild, Ethan Morris; special niece, Regina Banks of Ellijay; and special nephew, Richard Heard of Ball Ground.

Jane Theiss
Mrs. Jane Theiss, age 47 of Jasper, passed away on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at Mountainside Medical Center. Mrs. Theiss was a day manager of JP Market and she was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Potter of Jasper; sons, James Theiss of Jasper, Justin Potter of Canton and Blake Potter of Columbus, Ga.; daughters, Jessica Theiss of Waleska, Jennifer Theiss Edmondson of Canton and Shawna Potter of Jasper; brother, Charles Puglisi of Florida; sisters, Mary Ann Casano and Michele Borgesano, both of New York and Kathleen Lamberti and Deborah Tramontano, both of Florida. Three grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Joey Phillips and Larry Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery.
Walter Moore
Walter Alvin Moore, age 87 of Grandview Nursing Care Center, Jasper, and formerly from Vale, N.C., passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Mountainside Hospital.
Mr. Moore was born April 12, 1915 in Burke County and was the son of the late Joseph and Barbara Cook Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. He worked at Hickory Furniture, Burlington and Klopman Mills. After his retirement he enjoyed gardening and going to the mountains. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a member of the church council for many years.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Goodman and husband Al of Big Canoe; grandson, Todd Earley and wife Laura of Buford; great-grandson, Jackson Earley of Buford; three sisters, Virgie Cook, Ann Stewart and Alma Moore, all of Morganton, N.C.; two brothers, Paul and Conley Moore, both of Morganton.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. from Grace Lutheran Church, Hickory-Lincolnton Highway, with the Revs. Luther Knauff and Gene Bruce officiating. Magdelene Burton
Mrs. Magdelene Burton, age 60 of the Ludville Community, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 6, 2006 at the Homeleigh Retirement Home in Fairmount.
Survivors include her husband, John F. Burton, Sr., Talking Rock; son, Johnny Burton, Ludville; daughter, Patricia Frechette, Jasper; brothers, Rembert Hancock, Twin Tanks Community, and Dennis Hancock, Fairmount; sisters, Reva Mae Hamrick and Helen Jordan, both of Talking Rock. Two grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Hollis Crook and Gene Childers officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Junior, James and Gary Hancock, Glenn Hamrick, Johnny Atkins and Tom Frechette serving as pallbearers. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Frank Whiteside
Frank Finley Whiteside, age 95, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Ga.
A graveside service was held at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6 from Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville, Ga. with the Rev. Ted Smith of the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville officiating. A memorial service was held on the same day at 11:30 a.m. at New Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Jasper, Ga. with the Rev. Ben Laughlin officiating.
Mr. Whiteside was born in Euharlee, Ga. to William Scott and Lilla May Nelson Whitesides on April 9, 1911.
On April 3, 1932, Frank married Evelyn Alexander of Cartersville and they were lovingly married for 67 years until Evelyn's death on April 24, 1999. They were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville where Frank faithfully served as a Deacon and Elder. In 1973, Frank and Evelyn moved to Bent Tree in Jasper. They became charter members of New Lebanon Presbyterian Church where Frank served as an Elder. Frank was active in the early years of Bent Tree serving on various committees and was an avid golfer. Frank and Evelyn moved to Presbyterian Village in Austell, Ga. in February 1999.
He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in WW II with the 565th Anti-Aircraft Battalion under Patton's 3rd Army, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Frank was employed by Cummings Furniture Co., later Henson Furniture, in Cartersville. He retired in 1973.
Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Nelson and William Beecher Whitesides of Euharlee, Ga.; and sisters, Mary Ruth Whitesides of Euharlee and Elise Scott "Dot" Whitesides Eldridge of Austin, Tx.
Survivors include his two nieces, Catherine Eldridge Morgan and husband Fred of Austin, Tx. and Peggy Eldridge Story and husband Mark of Waco, Tx.; and great-nieces and nephews, David Morgan and wife Leticia and their sons, Will and Grant, Becca Jarvis and husband Mike and their son, Jacob, and Elizabeth Story and Matthew Story.
The family wishes to express their special thanks to Vi Finney in Jasper and to Billy Neel in Cartersville and to those who lovingly cared for Frank at Presbyterian Village in Austell.

Ms. Sarah Melenda DeMay Lewis, age 35 of Jasper, Ga., passed away at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Allen Lewis; father, James DeMay; mother, Barbara Taylor; daughter, Haley Amanda Lewis; grandmothers, Lucille Watkins DeMay and Sally Robertson; sisters, Jennifer Pettigrew and Janet Collis.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with interment in Lake Forest Memorial Park in Jasper with the Revs. Keith Estes, Robert Bryant and Charles Davis officiating. Pallbearers were: James Thomason, Larry Watkins, Travis Keeter, Doug Rogers, John Clark and Frank Harris. Joyce Harris was honorary pallbearer.
W.R. Dean
Mr. W.R. Dean, age 93 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 at the Autumn Breeze Nursing Home in Marietta, Ga.
Mr. Dean is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Eunice Brock Dean of Jasper; son, Gary Dean of Jonesboro; daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Max Jones of Jasper; and grandchildren, Mark Dean, David, Keith and Doug Jones and Maxie Vansant. Eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Brenda Dean, and grandson, Matthew Dean.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 from Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Marvin Chatham, Buddy Roper and Harold Cantrell officiating. Rev. Dozier Henderson
The Rev. Dozier Henderson, age 70 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at his residence.
Rev. Henderson served in the US Army. He was retired after 36 years with Coca Cola, was an ordained Baptist minister for 23 years and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Henderson of Ball Ground; son, Rev. John Henderson of Cumming; daughters and son-in-law, Terri Henderson of Greensboro, N.C. and Kelly and Rev. John Holaway of Ball Ground; brothers, Rev. Dan Henderson of Alpharetta and Jimmy Henderson of Silver City; sisters, Norma Lummus of Canton and Peggy Compton of Jasper. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.

Edward Morgan
Mr. Edward Morgan, age 50 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006 as the results of an automobile accident.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Morgan, Jasper; father and step-mother, Troy and Erlene Morgan, Trenton, Ga.; son, Joe Morgan, Jasper; daughter, Katy Morgan, Jasper; brothers, Charles and John Morgan, both of Trenton; and sister, Dianne Morgan, Trenton.

Lela Scott
Mrs. Lela Scott, age 83 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 at Canton Nursing Center.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Judy Scott, Jasper; sister-in-law, Mabel Bryant, Jasper; and grandchildren, Rebecca Logan and Kathryn Scott. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 from Free Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Autrey Dean, Grant Wade, Earl Wilkie and Joey DuBois officiating. A memorial service for Bill Tanner will be held Oct. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Food Pantry (CARES) in the conference room next to the Welcome Center at 202 Griffith Rd., Jasper. The Rev. Von Hinton will officiate.
Townsend Stancil
Townsend “Stan” Stancil, USAF Ret., passed away Sept. 30, 2005 in Sun City West, Az. at age 86.
Stan was born on May 6, 1919 in Jasper, Ga. and was one of 12 children. He joined the Army Air Corps when he was 17. He served in the Pacific during WW II and was a line chief for the Air Force during the Berlin Airlift. Stan also served at Kirkland Lake, Ontario in support of the DEW line and was the first sergeant at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs where he headed various operations while the Academy was under construction and preparing to open in 1955. He retired from the Air Force in 1959 at the rank of Master Sergeant. Stan was one of the charter members of TREA, The Retired Enlisted Association, and served as one of its national officers.
He married Ann Margoes who was a WAC in the Air Force in 1945 and they celebrated 59 years together. They were partners in his military career and in life, moving often and raising their four children. They settled in Woodmen Valley, outside of Colorado Springs, where he owned and operated the AnnStan Parklot Service before moving to Arizona. His wife Ann, his three daughters, Nancy Whitsel, Carol Hammond and Sally Corey, and his son, Tom, survive him. They mourn the loss of a beloved husband and father, but also celebrate his long and full life. He was a patriot who was always proud of his military career, and next of his family. He was truly one of the Greatest Generation.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Camino Del Sol Funeral Home in Sun City West. Stan’s wish was that in lieu of flowers donations be made to: TREA Chapter 1 Scholarship Fund, 834 Emery Cr., Colorado Springs, Co. 80915.
