Ruby Densmore
Mrs. Ruby Densmore, age 63 of Ball Ground, passed away at Emory Hospital on Nov. 3, 2003.
Mrs. Densmore was employed as a nurse. She was a member of Jasper First Baptist Church, of Ball Ground Eastern Star and of the Nelson Chapter of the Rebekahs.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn Densmore, Ball Ground; son, Glenn Densmore Jr. of Ball Ground; daughters, Deborah Collins, Jasper, Gail Moore, Canton, and Ginger Wigington, Ball Ground; brothers, Lewis, R.J. and Ed Davis, all of Canton; sisters, Jewell Couey and Hazel Pierce, both of Canton, and Gladys Mulkey, Lula, Ga. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. from Sunnyside Church of God with Dr. Perrow and the Rev. Tim Logan officiating. Interment was in Cherokee Memorial Park. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Daniel Pomfret
Mr. Daniel Raymond Pomfret, age 58 of Marble Hill, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at his home. Survivors include his wife, Renea Pomfret of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and George LaChance of Buxton, Ma., Gina and Randy Crowe of Talking Rock and Shane Tetterton of Marble Hill; mother, Virginia Pomfret, Knoxville, Tn.; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Janice Pomfret of Knoxville, Tn.; sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Dennis Boggs of Bartlesville, Ok.; four grandchildren, Gabriel and Samantha LaChance and Daniel and Zachary Tetterton.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Parker Benson officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park.
Sarah Brock
Mrs. Sarah Anderson Brock, age 76 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003 at her home.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Elizabeth Brock of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Lois Anderson of Jasper; sister-in-law, Ethel Anderson of Jasper; and one grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jason and Carey Brock. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Glenn Sims and Bobby Cantrell officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Clayton DeBoard Jr.
Mr. Clayton DeBoard Jr., age 78 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 at the Atlanta Medical Center in Fulton County.
Survivors include his wife, Lois DeBoard of Jasper; daughter, Mary Ruth Dean, Jasper; son-in-law, Ray Hughes of Jasper; brother, B.L. DeBoard of Jasper; and two grandchildren, Hollie and Misty Prater. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Hughes.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 from Refuge Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Johnson, Jerry Weaver and Corey Rich officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of graveside rites. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Shelia Phillips
Mrs. Shelia E. Phillips, age 41 of McCaysville, formerly of Cherokee County, passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, John Jeans of McCaysville; daughters, Shenna Joan Phillips of McCaysville and Keisha Helene Phillips of Ball Ground; brothers, Calvin Johnson of Dawsonville, Lee Johnson of Jasper and David Johnson of Fairmount; sisters, Teresa Goode of Dawsonville, Barbara Ross of Jasper and Carol Perry of Ball Ground. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Interment followed in Sharp Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dorothy Grosskurth
Bishop Dorothy Grosskurth, age 76, passed away. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Emma Fischer DeYoung and was born in Hamshire, Tx. She lived in Pickens County from 1980-1997.
She graduated from Hamshire High School in 1945 and was the valedictorian. She attended Sam Houston State College from 1945-47. Ms. Grosskurth completed her seminary studies through the International Church of Ageless Wisdom on Oct. 16, 1977, Cum Laude, and became a minister at that time. She received her Doctorate of Divinity on August 23, 1987 and was ordained a Bishop on March 30, 1996. She was only one of four female bishops with Apostolic succession in the International Church of Ageless Wisdom.
Survivors include her children, Paul Cameron Keen, Cartersville, Carol Lynn Keen Lawson, Robbinsville, N.C., George Richard Keen III, San Antonio, Tx., and Kristy Sue Keen Wheeler, Snellville; four grandchildren, Dustin Robert and Lauren Lynn Keen, Harrold Bernard III and Emma Leonor Wheeler; one great-grandchild, Jacob Robert Albert; two step-grandchildren, Eric and Julia Grosskurth.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Eternal Hills Chapel with the Revs. Naunie Bachelder and John Byerly and Mark Childers officiating. Bobby Roper
Mr. Bobby Roper, age 63 of the Yellow Creek Community of Pickens County, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Roper of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Barry and Debbie Roper of Jasper and Trenton Roper of Canton; daughter, Laura Jane Roper of LaGrange; step-mother, Gladys Roper, Yellow Creek; brothers, James Roper, Yellow Creek, and Allen Kent, Yellow Creek; sisters, Charlene Kline and Joyce Kendrick, both of Yellow Creek, and JoAnn Vaughn, Gainesville. Four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Huey Holloway and Jeff Wilkie officiating. Interment followed in Yellow Creek Church Cemetery.
Lamar Harris
Mr. Lamar Harris, age 82 of Ball Ground, passed away Nov. 16, 2004 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. Mr. Harris was a member and Deacon of Ball Ground Baptist Church, a 50-year member of Ball Ground Masonic Lodge and the American Legion, member of Ball Ground Lions Club, the VFW and the Cherokee Shrine Club. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Harris; sons, Steve Harris of Ball Ground, Lee Harris of Ellijay and Alan Harris of Canton; daughters, Marsha Slagle of Columbia, S.C. and Melba Harris of Louisville, Ky.; brothers, Harold Harris of Ball Ground and David Harris of Kennesaw; sisters, Patsy Dunn of Holly Springs, Yvonne Norton of Canton, Valjean Young of Atlanta and Marie Cahoon of Smyrna. Seven grandchildren also survive.The funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 18 from Ball Ground Baptist Church with the Rev. Alton Burrell officiating. Effie Mae Dean
Ms. Effie Mae Dean, age 88 of Talking Rock, passed away Nov. 16, 2004 atNorth Fulton Regional Hospital. Ms. Dean is survived by nieces and nephews,Mary and Harold Banks, Vernon and Melba Sullivan, Damie and Wyman Morris and Mrs. Weldon Sullivan. Several great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service was held Thursday, Nov, 18 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Clay Fountain and Carl Owenby officiating. Interment was in the Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Talking Rock. Pallbearers were: Jamie, Rusty and Keith Gravley, Lamar Reece, James and Vernon Sullivan and Greg Ledford.
Harold Williams
Mr. Harold Loyd Williams, age 76 of Canton, passed away on Tuesday, Nov.16, 2004. Mr. Williams was a retired Tech Sergeant with the US Air
Force and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Williams of Canton; daughter, Marilyn Green of Jasper; grandchildren, Tracey Gibson and Trent Green, both of Jasper. Three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 from the Little Refuge Baptist Church with the Revs. Willard Wilson and David Abernathy officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
John Rackley
Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of John Calvin Rhea Rackley of Morganton, Ga. who passed away Saturday, Nov.
20, 2004. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Marie Rackley of Morganton; daughters and son-in-law, Deanna Lee Rackley of Jasper and Diana Lynn and Michael Newberry of Milledgeville, Ga.; sisters, Mary Lee McAfee and Hortense Satterfield, both of Blue Ridge; grandsons, Christopher and Andrew
Newberry, both of Milledgeville. The funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. from Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Pastor Francis R. Scott officiating. Music was provided by Michael Newberry and Valerie Taylor. Interment followed in the Hemptown Cemetery.
Byrnes Goldey
Mr. Byrnes Goldey, age 83 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Goldey, Jasper, son and daughter-in-law, Byrnes Jr. and Mary Goldey; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Philip Allred, La-Veta and Tony Moore, Dorothy and Lawton Grizzle and Sonja and Jeff Freeman. Twelve grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 from Sunrise Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Von Hinton officiating. Local Chapter #47 DAV was in charge of the military graveside service. The following served as pallbearers: Jason and Jordan Allred, Curtis Smith, Chris Goldey, Levi Moore and Jonic Low. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Christopher Murphy
Mr. Christopher (Chris) Murphy, age 30 of Talking Rock, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his mother and father, Cherie and Marvin Jones, Talking Rock; grandmother, Betty Hollifield, Marietta; wife, Delaine Murphy, Talking Rock; daughter, Olivia Murphy, Talking Rock; brothers, Randy, John and Elijah Jones, all of Talking Rock, and David Murphy, Jasper; sisters, Rhonda Stargel and Stacy Hartman, both of Jasper, and April Nations, North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Timms officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Randy and John Jones, David Murphy, Dennis Stargel and Kevin and Pat Hollifield.
Lillian Bradley
Lillian L. Bradley, age 86 of Ash Grove, Mo., formerly of Sedalia, Mo., passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 at Ash Grove Healthcare Facility.
She was born Feb. 22, 1920 in Arkansas City, Ks., a daughter of Labette and Sadie May Taylor Cook. On May 9, 1936 in Wellington, Ks., she was married to Raymond Henry Bradley, who passed in 1995.
Mrs. Bradley worked and was raised on a farm in Arkansas City. In 1951 her family moved to Boulder, Co. where her husband worked in construction. They lived in several western states. In 1981 she moved to the Springfield, Mo. area and in 1995 she moved to Sedalia, Mo. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Bradley of Mountain Grove, Ronald Bradley of Sedalia, the Hon. Roger Bradley of Ellijay, Ga., Limon Bradley of Woburn, Ma. and Merle Bradley of Boise, Id.; daughter, Barbara Culver of Rich Hill, Mo. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 from Greenlawn North Funeral Home in Springfield with the Rev. Al Oetman officiating.
Weldon Hendrix
Mr. Weldon “Bay” Hendrix, age 86 of Talking Rock, passed away Dec. 2, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
He is survived by daughters, Mildred Satterfield of Jasper and Myra Pierce of Talking Rock; special friend, Edna Reed of Jasper; brothers, Harold Pearlie and Ralph Hendrix, both of Marble Hill; sisters, Ruby Brooks of Ball Ground and Willie Grace Brooks of Marble Hill; and two grandchildren, Sabrina and Audy Mullinax of Jasper and LaBrina and Craig Hamby of Hilton Head, S.C.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Bobby McFarland, Robert Allen, Moss Fountain and Bob McFarland officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Pauline Bessette
Pauline Bessette, 74 years old of Jasper, passed away on Nov. 7, 2003.
She was a resident of Grandview nursing home at the time of her death. Bessette was a Pickens County resident as a child and then returned here to retire in 1985.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Bessette; son, Roger Orr of Jasper; daughters, Oneita Holbert of Acworth, Tina Hawkins of Brunswick and Regina Miles of Kennesaw. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandson also survives.
Interment was at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Acworth.
Audrey Domzalski
Mrs. Audrey Domzalski, age 74 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Domzalski, Jasper; son, Mark Domzalski, Placitas, N.M.; daughters, Tracy Domzalski, Sara Wolfe, Marietta; and one grandson, Tom Wolfharth.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Parker Benson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Georgia Mountain Hospice.
Claudia Satterfield
Mrs. Claudia Satterfield, age 87 of Ranger, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at the Woodstock Nursing Center.
Survivors include a nephew, Ricky M. Long, Ludville; two great-nephews, Kyle and Brandon Long; and a host of friends.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Tatum and Eric Childers officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Eric Childers, Brian Perry, John Miller, Danny Clark, Terry Long and Delmer McDaniel. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Columbus Hancock
Mr. Columbus Hancock, age 88 of Jasper, passed away Dec. 2, 2003 at his residence.
Survivors include sons, Dennis Hancock, Fairmount, and the Rev. Rembert Hancock; daughters, Mrs. Reba Mae Hamrick, Jerusalem Community, Helen Jordan and Magdalene Burton, both of Talking Rock; brothers, John Hancock, Waleska, James Hancock, Hinton, and Hubert Hancock, West Virginia. Thirteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren also survive.
