Mrs. Pernell Greer
Mrs. Pernell Woody Greer, age 72 of Ellijay, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003.
Mrs. Green was born April 6, 1931 in Hayesville, N.C., daughter of the late Andy and Estella Hamrick Mashburn. She was a housewife and a member of the Emanuel Full Gospel Church.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Edgar Carringer, Betty and James Reeves and Sheila and Melvin Voyles, all of Ellijay, and Debbie and Dave Chadwick, Jasper; son, Fred Woody, Ellijay; sisters, Ruby Warren of Ellijay and Ruth Barnes of North Carolina. Eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Revs. David Chadwick and Bill Quarles officiating. Music was provided by Irene Wofford. Pallbearers were: Bobby Coker, Ronny Padgett, Ronald Warren, Larry Defoor and Ray Hughes. Interment was in Turniptown Baptist Church Cemetery.

Estelle Bozeman
Mrs. Estelle Bozeman, age 89 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Grady and Barbara Bozeman and Steve Bozeman; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Dale Keever, Free Home Community, Louise and Clyde Bevers, Hendersonville, Tn., and Bobbie and James Brooks, York, S.C.; sisters and brother-in-law, Tinnie Stargel, Alcoa, Tn., and Lucille and Charles Brackett, Blue Ridge. Eleven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. from Marble Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Bottoms officiating. Interment was in Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Bruce Brooks, C.J. McEntire, Michael Bozeman, Raymond and Scott Quinton and Doug Graham. The family did accept flowers; donations may bemade to Marble Hill Baptist Church. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Zed Chadwick
Mr. Zed Wilford Chadwick, age 80 of Ellijay, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003.
Mr. Chadwick was born May 3, 1923 in Gilmer County, son of the late Joe and Effie Long Chadwick. He was retired from Georgia Marble and also farming. Mr. Chadwick was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Chadwick of the home; children and in-laws, Mark and Shirley Chadwick and Mason and Linda Chadwick, all of Ball Ground, and Melvin Terry and Mary Chadwick, Etowah, Tn; sister, Vernon Barrentine, Marietta. Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Emuel Sanford officiating. Interment was in Scrougetown Church Cemetery. Music was provided by Irene Wofford. Pallbearers were: Cory Chadwick, Kevin Moss, Danny Kirby, Danny Musser, Wallace Sanford and Nick Bird.

Joe Jarrett
Mr. Joe Jarrett, age 53 of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his mother, Lillie Mae Wilson, Ball Ground; daughters and sons-in-law, Toni and Phil Blackwell, Ball Ground, Gina Jarrett and Kris Hyde, Jasper, and Tracy Jarrett, Dallas, Ga.; brother, Jimmy Jarrett, Ball Ground; sister, Lolly Hughes, Ball Ground; and three grandchildren, Tyler Shackleford, Brody Blackwell and Kristen Hyde.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. from Arbor Hill Baptist Church in Pickens County with the Revs. Greg Long and Dozier Henderson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ronald Ayers, Danny Gazaway, David Cornett, Dean Crowe, Marcus Popham and Richard Poole. The family did not wish to receive flowers, but ask that donations be made to the Heart Fund at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Mercy Foundation c/o Heart Transplant Fund, 5673 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta, Ga. 30342. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Vellenoweth
Mr. Glenn Vellenoweth, age 68, passed away at his residence Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Vellenoweth, Jasper; step-mother, Lillian Fowler, Dawsonville; daughters, Joyce Espinoza, Sherri Walker and Amy Vellenoweth, all of Jasper; brothers, Larry Fowler, Jacksonville, Fl., Danny Flowers, Sonia, Ga., and Michael Flowers, Concord, Ca.; sister, Sue Whitt, Dawsonville. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.
A graveside service was held Monday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. from Hinton Community Cemetery with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Pallbearers were: Denny and Buster Flowers, Kevin Puckett, Clyde Abercrumby, David Dixon and Everanco Espinoza. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Shirley
Mrs. Mary Harris Shirley, age 92 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006 at Mountain Healthcare Nursing Home in Jasper.
Survivors include her husband, James Shirley of the home; son-in-law, Roy Cowart of Jasper; grandson, Mike and Lisa Cowart of Jasper; and great-grandchildren, Katie and Caleb Cowart. Mrs. Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Cowart.
The funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with interment in Lake Forest Memorial Park on Camp Road. The Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiated.

Russell McMahan, Sr.
Mr. Russell Thomas McMahan, Sr., age 79 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn McMahan of the home; son, Russell McMahan, Jr. of Canton; daughter, Decie Lowe of Jasper; sister, Annie Jo Parker of Dalton; and grandchildren, Russell T. McMahan III (Tray), Ryker James, Weldon Slade, Marilyn Solitar and Camlyn Michelle Lowe.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6 from noon until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. at Jasper First Baptist Church Vestibule. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the church with interment in the Lowe Family Cemetery in Jasper. The Revs. Jimmy Lewis and Charles O. Walker will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Grace McClure
Mrs. Grace McClure, age 82 of the Hickory Flat Community, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006 at Metropolitan Hospice.
Mrs. McClure was a 50-year charter member of Hickory Flat Eastern Star Chapter 466 and member of Hickory Flat United Methodist church. She was a retired nutritionist.
Survivors include her sons, George McClure of Woodstock and Jerry McClure of Sautee Nacochee, Ga.; daughters, Juanita McClure of Chamblee and Betty Weaver of Jasper; brother, Leroy Drummond of Canton; and sisters, Shelby Armstrong of Bessemer, Al. and Christine Wilkie of Cumming. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Bros. Bryan Linder and Lanier Richards and the Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park.

Ruby Stanfield
Mrs. Ruby Poole Stanfield, age 87 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her sons, Patrick W. and Charles Stanfield, both of Jasper; daughters, Frances Norton, Riverdale, Martha Eller, Mableton, and Anne Goodwill, Carrollton; brothers, Jim Poole, Chatsworth, and Joe Poole, Indiana. Seventeen grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. from Cross Roads Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Holbert officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Pat and Charles Stanfield, Steve Mullinax, Scott and Joe Eller and Jack Goodwill. Honorary pallbearers were: Mitchell and Bart Stanfield, Joshua, Daniel and John Goodwill and Taylor Walton. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Maxwell
Mrs. Gertrude Maxwell, age 89 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006 at Brian Nursing Center in Canton.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Davis, Commerce, Ga.; and grandchildren, Sharon Griffin, Ellijay, James A. Pierce, Douglasville, Trudy Carter, Jasper, Donna Hunt, Stockbridge, and Kevin Pierce, Calhoun. Eleven great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Bevins officiating. Interment followed in Oxford Historic Cemetery in Oxford, Ga. near Covington.

Vernon Stone
Mr. Vernon Stone, age 68 of the Ludville Community, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Amie Stone, Ludville; son, L.H. Stone, Ludville; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Tim Childers, Pam and Shane Abernathy and Tracy Stone and Manuel Moya, all of Ludville; brothers, Gene and William Stone, both of Ranger, and Larry Stone, Hinton; sisters, Ollie Hightower, Ludville, Myrtis Swafford, Nickelsville, Ruthell Cornett, Geneva Fountain, Oris Hendrix and Faye Young, all of Ranger, and Aris Reed, Fairmount. Five grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Timms officiating. Interment was in the Mountain Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Johnny Burton, Bo Hightower, Albert Mulkey, Sonny Underwood, Billy Newton and Daylee Stone. Honorary pallbearers were: Glenn Stone, Ed Young, Terry Buttrum and Danny Gaddis.

Bessie Prather
Mrs. Bessie Prather, age 93 of Parker Road, Jasper, Ga., passed early Sunday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2006 at Canton Nursing Center in Canton.
Survivors include her sons, Donald Lee and James William Prather, both of Jasper, Robert Gideon Prather, Summerville, John Edwin Prather, Marietta, and Jerry Paul Prather, Lilburn; and daughter, Betty Joan Turner, Gilmer, Tx. Seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Charles Burgess, Tony, Jeff, Gary and John Prather, Benjaman Goss and Stanley Burgess serving as pallbearers.

Nancy Owens
Nancy Jo Owens passed away on Nov. 23, 2006 at her home in Jasper.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tim Owens; sons, William John, Michael Patrick and Timothy Lee Owens; grandchildren, Michael Patrick Owens, Jr., Jason Price Owens, Gregory Giuliani Owens and Gabrielle Marie Owens; brother, Delmar Gene Owens; and sisters, Alice Greenwood, Edna Mae Bullington, Rita Polston and Dian Wiggs.
She will be in our hearts forever.

Jack Walker
Mr. Jack Walker, age 76 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Walker, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Vince Lamberti, Hartselle, Al.; brothers, Eugene and Ben Walker, both of Talking Rock, Tom Walker, Calhoun, Larry, Hugh Lee and Johnny Walker, all of Jasper; sisters, Clara Phillips, Alton, Il., Ann Estotito, Ellijay, Betty Tallent, Woodstock, and Gladys Wallis, Resaca; and grandchildren, Andrea and Josh Lamberti. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by a son, Tony Walker.
The funeral was held Friday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Chris Harper and Michael Lusk officiating. The body was then taken to Peek Funeral Home in Hartselle, Al. for a morning visitation on Saturday, Dec. 2 prior to the graveside service at Mt. Tabor Methodist Church Cemetery in Hartselle at 11 a.m.

Elise Medlin
Mrs. Elise Bryant Medlin, age 72 of Ranger, Ga., passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at her residence.
Mrs. Medlin and her husband were owners of the Video Shack in Fairmount, Ga.
Survivors include her husband, Hayes Medlin; son, Gregory Medlin; brothers, Kenneth and Glenn Bryant; and grandsons, Kevin and Adam Medlin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church with the body to lie in state from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Roper Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Vera Golden
Mrs. Vera Golden, age 94 of Union City, formerly of Jasper, passed away Nov. 24, 2003 at Fayette Community Hospital.
Survivors include her sister, Ada Mae Golden, Union City; nieces, Ruth A. Golden Walls and husband Leroy and Maxine Hicks, Klamath Falls, Or.; nephews, Hoy Johnson and wife Janet, Klamath Falls, and Dale Johnson and wife Charlotte, Yakimaw, Wa. Grand-nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Jasper City Cemetery with the Rev. Darwin Cardwell officiating. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Billy Hogan
Mr. Billy Lamar Hogan, age 68 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at his home.
Survivors include his sons, Bobby Hogan of Jasper and Billy Jo Urban of Illinois. Four grandchildren also survive.
Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph Douglas Jr.
Mr. Joseph Dabney Douglas Jr., age 80 of Jasper, went home to Jesus Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003.
Joe was the son of Joseph D. Douglas Sr. and Cora Allie Spruell. He retired from Lockheed in 1973 after 19 years of service during which he traveled to both Greenland and the South Pole. After his retirement from Lockheed, he was very successful with Douglas and Associates Realty Co. where he remained active until his death. Joe was very active in local and county activism and through his activities was given credibility as an expert witness in a variety of situations. He was a Methodist all his life. He grew up in the church that his parents and some friends started and remained a member until it was disbanded by the United Methodist Church in the ‘80s. After that he was a member of the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church where he served as finance chairman and treasurer at various times. He was also a volunteer for many activities there. He was a member of the Alpharetta Masonic Lodge #235 F&AM and served there as Worshipful Master in 1953. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Dabney Douglas III.
Survivors include his companion, Betty Walden; daughter, Susan Herring; grandsons, Mike, John and Steve Herring; five great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Cobb; a nephew; and a niece.
The funeral service was held Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. from the Northside Chapel Funeral Directors in Roswell with Chaplain Dwight Wilson officiating.

Jessie Ray
Mrs. Jessie Mary Ray, age 88 of Ball Ground, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at the Canton Nursing Home.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Loretta Ray, Ball Ground; brother, Floyd Walker, Jasper; sister, Bessie Boling, Jasper. Nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 29 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Junior Waddell and William Faucett officiating. Interment was in Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Keith, Scott, Jonathan, Dusty, Brett and Chase Ray. Donations may be made to Four Mile Baptist Cemetery Fund.
