Mr. Daniel Raymond Pomfret, age 58 of Marble Hill, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Renea Pomfret of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and George LaChance of Buxton, Ma., Gina and Randy Crowe of Talking Rock and Sandy and Shane Tetterton of Marble Hill; mother, Virginia Pomfret, Knoxville, Tn.; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Janice Pomfret of Knoxville, Tn.; sister and brother-in-law, Joy and Dennis Boggs of Bartlesville, Ok.; four grandchildren, Gabriel and Samantha LaChance and Daniel and Zachary Tetterton.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Parker Benson officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park.
Inez Tillery
Mrs. Inez Mae Tillery, age 58 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2003. She was born Nov. 17, 1944 in Pickens County.
Mrs. Tillery was the daughter of the late Hoover and Mary PratherChastain. She was a housewife and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Mae McCormick, Palm Coast, Fl., and Felicia Ann Rogers, LaGrange, Ga.; brother, James Chastain, Ellijay; sisters, Retha Lathem, Pikeville, Tn., and Lucille Caylor, Jasper. Five grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Revs. Cliff Nelson and Clay Fountain officiating. Music was provided by Irene Wofford and the Buddy Burnette Family. Pallbearers were: Wendell Rogers, Darrell Richards, Dwight and Conny Lathem, Keith Hamby and Donnie Newton. Interment was in the Yukon Cemetery.
Herbert Hitt
Mr. Herbert Hitt, age 90 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Leoma Hitt, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Henry Loveless, Tate; brothers, Steve and Bill Hitt, both of Canton; sisters, Nora Reece and Grace Hitt, both of Canton, and Marie Chastain, Tate; grandchildren, Jon and Mary Ellen Loveless, Monticello, Jennifer and Tracy Weaver, Tate; great-grandchildren, Will Loveless, Monticello, and Brittany and Blake Weaver, Tate.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 from Free Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Brock and Alfred Baker officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jimmy and Rick Hitt, Robert Reece, Milton Fountain, Jeff Baker and Ron Levine. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Joy Tatum
Miss Joy Tatum, age 87 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at Kennestone Hospital.
Survivors include her brother, C.C. Tatum, Marietta; sister, Virginia Long, Chatsworth. Nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Joey DuBois, Marvin Chattam and Moss Fountain officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dan and Jeff Tatum, Bradley Slaton, Jerry Moss, Tommy Long and Jimmy Calhoun. The family requests in lieu of flowers, make donations to Antioch Baptist Church.
Endmon Cochran
Mr. Endmon Cochran, age 71 of Dawsonville, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at Gold City Nursing Home in Dahlonega.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Cochran, Marble Hill; and two grandchildren, Heather and Tiffany Cochran, Marble Hill.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Hyde officiating. Interment followed in Mica Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Eugene and Jimmy Ray, David Maxie, Mark Welch, Keith Bradshaw and Clyde Jr. Gilreath.
Jack Johnson
Mr. Jack Johnson, age 74 of the Yellow Creek Community, passed away Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 at the Brian Center in Canton.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Johnson, Yellow Creek; one step-son, Emory Bowers, Yellow Creek; daughters, Pam Bodeck, Jasper, Joyce Hendon, Canton, and Wanda Johnson, Smyrna; step-daughters, Willene Bell, Ball Ground, and Shelia Jarrett, Jasper; brothers, Wayne and J.H. Johnson, both of Canton; sister, Elaine Saye, Canton. Seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 from Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Dawson County with the Revs. James Samples and Chris White officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jimmy and Brian Harshburger, Matthew Adams, Corey Parrish and Billy and Chris Jarrett. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Richard Williams
Mr. Richard “Benny” Williams, age 64 of Ellijay, passed away Jan. 11, 2003 at the VA Hospital.
He is survived by his mother, Odella Williams of Buchanan, Ga.; son, Richard Glen Williams of Boise, Id.; daughters, Dee Dettman and Denise Tullis, both of Gainesville, Ga.; brothers, Osborn and Leon Williams, both of Jasper; sister, Gladys Johnson of Woodstock. Six grandchildren and the mother of Mr. Williams’ children, Shirley Evans, of Ellijay, also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam May officiating. Interment followed in Talking Rock Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Tinsley and Tim Jones, Michael Carter, Todd Jarrett, Scott Fortenberry and Allen Johnson.
Mollie Hooks
Mrs. Mollie Hooks, age 67 of Tate, passed away Jan. 13, 2003 at Decatur Hospital.
She is survived by her sons, Charles and Jane Hooks of Kennesaw, Tony F. Hooks of Tate and Brad D. Hooks; daughters, Sheila M. Bridges and Cookie Elaine and Steven Jones, all of Canton, Irish and Ithiel Jones of Talking Rock; brother, Julius “Bud” Hooks of Milledgeville; sister, Pinky and Lonnie Hampton of Nelson. Seven grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home. Interment was in Lake Forest Memorial Park.
Krystain Kennedy
Krystain Elizabeth Keleigh Kennedy, infant daughter of Candance “Candi” Painter and Matthew Kennedy of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her grandparents, Wayne and Judy Prichard of Dawsonville, Danita Knowles of Toomsboro, Ga. and Pete Kennedy of McIntyre, Ga.; great-grandparents, Maybell Painter of Jasper, Frances Rewis of Milledgeville and Belinda Daniels of Irwinton, Ga. A number of other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. from Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Hugh Fields officiated. Interment was in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Jimmy Logan
Mr. Jimmy Daryl Logan, age 68 of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003. He was born in Murray County on April 13, 1935, the son of the late Mark and Inez Taylor Logan. Mr. Logan worked in construction and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Louise Mason, Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Minnie Easley, Talking Rock, and Gail Pettigrew, Jasper; six brothers, C.W. and Cliff Logan, both of Talking Rock, Downey and Wayne Logan, both of Jasper, Wendell and Ronnie Logan, both of Calhoun. One grandchild, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 17 from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Hollis Crook officiating. Music was by Selena Fields. Pallbearers were nephews. Interment was in Yukon Cemetery.
Onnie Mae Edwards
Mrs. Onnie Mae Edwards, age 86 of Nelson, passed away Jan. 14, 2003 at Brian Nursing Center in Canton.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Shirley Edwards, Ball Ground; grandchildren, Vicki and Michael Long, Nelson, Lisa and Dean Walker, Canton, and Greg and Julie Edwards, Marble Hill; four great-grandchildren, William, Matthew and Nathan Walker and Andrew Long. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 16 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Calvin Grogan, James Rich and Wayne Long officiating. Interment was in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Michael and Andrew Long, Dean and William Walker, Greg Edwards and Don Mathis. Honorary pallbearers were: Matthew and Nathan Walker and Tommy Thompson.
Jacquelyn Maughon
Mrs. Jacquelyn (Jackie) Rauch Maughon, age 40 of Talking Rock, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2003.
She is survived by her parents, Jack and Ruth Rauch, Talking Rock; grandmother, Margaret Maughon, Cumming; daughter, Valerie Maughon, Atlanta; brother, John Rauch, Talking Rock; two sisters, Deborah Loumakis, Cumming, and Lori Greene, Florida. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Hollis Crook officiating.
Wallace Densmore
Mr. Wallace Densmore, age 86 of Waleska, formerly of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at the Mountainside Medical Center.
Mr. Densmore retired 20 years ago after a long career as a printer/composing-room employee at the Pickens County Progress.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Childers and Rev. D. J. Free officiating. The interment followed in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Garland, Waleska and Gail Dempsey of Alpharetta; son, Wayne Boling of Jasper; step-mother, Clara Gay Densmore, Jasper; brother, Edward Densmore, Dalton; sister, Doris Ingle, Canton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Roper Funeral Home of Jasper was in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Wallace Densmore.
Rev. Willard Nealey
Rev. Willard Nealey, age 87 of Gates Chapel Road, Ellijay, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004.
Rev. Nealey was born on Nov. 3, 1916 in Gilmer County. He was the son of the late Jess and Lula Teague Nealey. He was a textile worker employed at Galaxy Carpet. Rev. Nealey was a Baptist minister, member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, a veteran serving in World War II and a member of the Oak Bowery Lodge #81 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Henson Nealey; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Diane Nealey of Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Terry Smith, Ellijay; sister, Pluma Nealey, Ellijay; brother and sister-in-law, Hoyt and Ruby Nealey, Ellijay; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Wiley Henson of Kentucky and Carl Henson, Ellijay. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Revs. Larry Stover,Junior Waddell,Roy Scott and Billy Nealey officiating. Music was by Wallace Tudor, Cindy Morrow and the Zion Hill Church Choir. Pallbearers were Jimmy Nealey, Grady Puckett, Herbert Teague, Ray Reece, Mike Sales, Billy Nealey, Gary Puckett, Loren McVey. Honorary pallbearers were brothers of Oak Bowery Lodge #81, Ronnie Thompson, James Loudermilk, W. C. Loudermilk, John Oldfield, Ed Sanders, Ryan Nealey, Frank Smith, Scott Smith, Mark Henson, Walter Henson, Randy Henson and Larry Henson.
Interment was in the Yukon Cemetery with graveside rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard and the Oak Bowery Lodge #81 F&AM. Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Olin D. Mullinax
Dr. Olin D. Mullinax, age 79 of Atlanta, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. The body remained at Cagle Funeral Home. Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Cocklereece and Norvel Knight officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Survivors are his wife, Pearl H. Mullinax, Atlanta; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Max McBrayer, Alpharetta; three grandchildren, Heather Cooke, Hilary Baylor, Evan McBrayer, and one great-grandson, Jackson Cooke.
Serving as pallbearers were Max McBrayer, Evan McBrayer, Adam Baylor, John Cooke, Bryan Howle, and Tony Cheely.

Mrs. Ella Eubanks Murphy
Mrs. Ella Eubanks Murphy, age 89 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at Mountainside Health Care in Jasper. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home, Rev. Sherman Westbrook officiating. Interment followed in Bethesda Baptist Church cemetery with James Queen, Robert Garrett, Allan Bryant, Greg Bryant, Billy Bors and Melvin Bryant serving as pallbearers.
Surviving are the daughters, Ruth Bryant and Ruby Bors, Jasper; grandchildren, Melvin Bryant Jasper, Bill Bors, Kentucky, Greg Bryant, Jasper; great-grandchildren, DeLaney Bryant Jernigan, Christi Bryant, Jasper, and Tiffany Bors, California; great-great-grandchildren, James Jernigan, Chelsa Jernigan, and Zoe Bryant, Jasper.
The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to The Sarah Bryant Scholarship Fund at the First Baptist Church of Jasper.
