Mr. Winnon Pierce Ellison Sr., 49, of Sardis,
entered into rest on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Yonce Lively officiating. Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro. Mr. Ellison was a welder at Perfection-Schwank Industries and a Baptist at East Burke Baptist Church.
Survivors include a special friend, Grace Glisson of Sardis; a daughter, Zabrina Michelle Hall of Guyton; a son, Winnon Pierce Ellison Jr. of Guyton; two sisters, Patricia Bargeron and Eve Hullet, both of Sardis; a brother, Tony Curtis Ellison of Midville; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Miriam A. Tinley, 89,
beloved wife of the late Henry Tinley, entered into rest Monday, June 14, 2004 at the Medical College of Georgia. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 16) in Hillcrest Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jake Malone officiating.
Mrs. Tinley was a native of Augusta and a beautician. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta. Survivors include two sons, William Goddard Tinley and his wife Earldean of Appling and James Henry Tinley of Sandersville; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Margaret Ann Quick, 63,
entered into rest Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Quick was a waitress at the Back Door Diner and a member of Botsford Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Ernest Quick III of Waynesboro; her daughter, Melanie Quick Mobley of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Maggie Forehand of Millen and Ann Cockrell of Lexington, S.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were her nephews.

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Kathryne Hemingway
was held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Thomas Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie B. Tomlin officiating. Interment was in Pines Cemetery.
Our beloved Kathryne was a remarkable woman. As we look back over her life, we realize that she was a woman ahead of her time. So it is with great joy, mixed with sadness, that our family asks you to celebrate the life of Kathryne Wade Hemingway and share with us the knowledge that “to live in the hearts of those we leave behind is to live forever.”
She leaves to cherish her fondest memories, a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald (Lillie Mae) Wade of Waynesboro; two granddaughters, Keysha and Rhonda Wade, both of Waynesboro; a sister, Rosalie (Robert) Keys of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, Richard (Frances) Wade of Brooklyn; a sister-in-law, Berdie Mae Wade of Waynesboro; a brother-in-law, Bishop Robert (Alberta) Ward Sr. of Laurelton, N.Y.; a godmother, Lurlie Walton of Waynesboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates.
The funeral service for Mr. Willie James Lacy will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2004 at Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Charles E. Lacy Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Lacy departed this life on Friday, June 17, 2004 at University Hospital. He was an employee of the Richmond County Fire Department, Station #3 for 25 years and Sears Roebuck & Company as a service technician for 19 years. He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Martha Kaye Lacy; a son, Willie James Lacy Jr.; three daughters, Margean Tina Lacy Stokes, Jada Elizabeth Lacy and Jasmine Nicole Wright; his mother, Savannah Haynes; four brothers, the Rev. Charles E. Lacy Jr., Mathis (Yolanda) Abrams Jr., Robert Johnson and Edward Jenkins; two sisters, Barbara Lacy (Eric) Safford and Jacqueline (Seaborn) Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation at the family’s residence will begin at 6 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, June 23) at 2531 Norton Blvd., Augusta. The family will also receive at Phinazee and Son Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Cleo Brigham was held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Bottsford Spring Baptist Church, with Evangelist Queen Holmes officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Her loving and devoted family will cherish her memories.

Mr. John E. Hughes departed this life on June 4, 2004 at Burke Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. Interment was June 12, 2004 at McElmurray Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery in Burke County.
Mr. Watson Bernard Striggles III
Mr. Watson B. Striggles of Augusta entered into rest Friday, June 18, 2004 at his residence in Augusta. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at First McCoy Baptist Church, Jenkins County, Georgia, with the Rev. Archie Waltower officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Michael Alan Nevils, 40,
entered into rest Sunday, June 27, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 30) at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Yonce Lively and Wiley Wooten officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Nevils was a repair technician with CSRA Office Products in Augusta. He served in the Georgia National Guard and was Baptist.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Nevils of Girard; and two sisters, Debra L. Nevils of Sardis and Sharon A. Nevils of Girard. Pallbearers will be Daniel Wooten, Craig Anderson, Ray Lane, Henry Glisson, Dale Heath and Ricky Elliott.
Mr. George Walter Buell, 52,
of Piedmont, S.C., died Monday, June 14, 2004 in Greenville.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at First Baptist Church of Abbeville with the Revs. Dennis VanCuren and Jonathan Taylor officiating.
Burial followed in the Stapleton First Baptist Church Cemetery in Stapleton.
Mr. Buell was born in Virginia to Clyde and Marian Buell. He was a graduate of Carson-Newman College where he earned a BA degree in religion. He was the Production Coordinator for the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department in Seneca. He was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 210 in Powerdersville. He was a member of Abbeville First Baptist where he was a former deacon, member of the adult choir and a Royal Ambassador leader. Survivors include his wife, Donna Holt Buell of Piedmont; a son, Geoffrey Travis Buell of Piedmont; parents, Clyde and Marian Buell of John’s Island, S.C.; two brothers, Tommy Buell and Raymond Buell, both of Charleston; and three sisters, Donna Croom, Patti Quijano and Mary Buell, all of Charleston. Mr. Richard David Hillis, 63,
of Hampton, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2004.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 30) at Tara Garden Chapel in Jonesboro. The family will receive family and friends 3-6:30 p.m. prior to the service. A memorial service will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 2, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesboro. Mr. Hillis was preceded in death by his father, Walter R. “Dick” Hillis. Mr. Hillis is survived by his loving wife, Diane G. Hillis; his mother, Edith B. Hillis; two daughters, Teresa H. Young and Patricia H. Nyman; a son, David R. Hillis; a sister, Gail H. Wilson; and three grandchildren. Tara Garden Chapel, Jonesboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Haywood Donald Sikes, 56,
entered into rest Friday, July 2, 2004 at Burke Medical Center.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, July 5, at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Joey Grizzel and Wayne Dixon officiating. Mr. Sikes was a self-employed paint contractor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Sikes of Waynesboro; a daughter, Tracy Sikes of Waynesboro; a son, Travis Sikes of Waynesboro; his mother, Mrs. Myra Sikes of Waynesboro; two sisters, Linda Britto of Waynesboro and Gloria Jones of Augusta; and a brother, Charles Marvin Sikes Sr. of Waynesboro.
Mrs. Iola H. Beck, 80, of Evans, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at University Hospital. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10. at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene St., Augusta, with pastors Charles Koon and Paulwyn Bolick officiating.
A native of Lexington, N.C., she had moved to Waynesboro in 1965 where she remained until relocating to Evans in 1995. Mrs. Beck was educated in North Carolina schools and attended the Brevard College. While in North Carolina, she was active at the First Lutheran Church of Lexington where she was a Sunday School teacher and Girl Scout Troop leader. She was an active Garden Club member.
Upon moving to Waynesboro, she became affiliated with the First National Bank of Waynesboro where she remained until her retirement in 1987. In Waynesboro, she had served as the president of the Town and Country Woman’s Club, was the church organist and choir director at the First Presbyterian Church, served on the Burke County Board of Elections, worked as Assistant Voting Precinct Manager and was a member of the Waynesboro Arts Council. In 1995 she and her husband moved to Evans to be near family. They were members of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, where she served as co-director, with her husband, of the Older Adults Program. She was also a member of the Senior Friends at Doctor’s Hospital. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Beck, who passed away in 1999.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jaques Beck of Evans; a son, David Earl Beck of Hephzibah; a daughter, Linda Beck Smith of Columbia, S.C.; and four grandchildren, David W. Beck of Evans, Katherine Smith of Charlottesville, Va., Jacqueline Smith of Irmo, S.C. and Robert Smith of Columbia, S.C.
