Mrs. Anita Perry Pierce, age 54, departed this life Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at her residence. She was born March 3, 1947 in Alabama.
Mrs. Pierce was the daughter of the late Millard Rufus and Margaret Perry McEntire. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her spouse, Harry Pierce of Fairmount; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and John Williams of Calhoun; son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Kim Pierce of Fairmount; two grandchildren, Tyler Pierce and Castle Williams; three brothers, Millard Rufus McEntire Jr. of Mississippi and Ben and Mark McEntire of Alabama.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. from Oak Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. George Gray an Elihue Abernathy officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery in Rydal. Ponders Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Bryan Vincent
Mr. Bryan Bostic (Bossie) Vincent, age 82 of Fairmount, departed this life Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Gordon Hospital. He was born March 19, 1920 in Gordon County, the son of the late Linton Stephens and Nannie Hamrick Vincent.
Mr. Vincent was a veteran of WW II. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Autrell, Dorsey, Hicks, Ralph, Dean and George Vincent.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Annie Lou Stafford Vincent; daughters, Jo Ann Sanford and Alice Carol Vincent, all of Fairmount; and sister, Sarah Headrick of Dalton.
The funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. from Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Revs. Spencer Evans and Tate Hall officiating.
Andrew Griscom
Mr. Andrew Minor Griscom, age 18 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Ann Wigington Griscom, Jasper; grandmother, Dorothy Wigington, Talking Rock; aunts and uncles, Mary Ann and William Griscom, Lancaster, Pa., Beth and David Turner and Sam and Sandie Kendrick, all of Jasper.
The funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 17 from Whitestone Baptist Church with the Rev. Cory Rich officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Derrick Morgan, Eric Shirey, Bobby Cambell, Mike Watson, Brad Golden, Curtis and Jake Holden, Justin Killian and Phillip Collins. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Evelyn Shaw
Evelyn M. Shaw, age 87 of Cartersville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003.
Born Feb. 18, 1915 to Luther T. and Lillian Oesterling Moore in New Castle, Pa., she graduated from New Castle High in 1933. She resided in San Fernando Valley from 1947 to 1986. Mrs. Shaw retired from Sears Canoga Park store in 1986 after 20 years of service and moved to Georgia. She was preceded in death by a son, Russell Lee Shaw; her mother and father; and brother, V. Kenneth Moore.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lauri Shaw-Wood and Warren Wood Jr.; granddaughter, Scout Shaw Wood; grandson, Levi Elmer Wood, Big Canoe. Nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of life will be held at Grand Oaks in Cartersville from 11:30-1 Saturday, Feb. 22. Interment will take place in June in Oakwood Cemetery, Chatsworth, Ca. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pacific Lodge Youth Home, 4900 Serrania Ave., Woodland Hills, Ca. 91364. Cremation Society of the South is in charge of the arrangements.
Frances Owen
Mrs. Frances Owen, age 91 of Canton, passed away Feb. 19, 2004 at the Canton Nursing Home.
Mrs. Owen was a member of DAR Hightower Chapter, Canton Study Club, charter member of the Cherokee Historical Society, Canton First Baptist Church and board member of Sequoia Library.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Linda Owen of Canton, and two grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. from the Heritage Baptist Fellowship with the Revs. J.R. Huddlestun and Nathan Brandon officiating. Interment was in River View Cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lamar Boling
A. Lamar “Al” Boling, age 70 of Powder Springs, passed away Feb. 15, 2004.
Formerly of Tate, he was a graduate of Osborne High School and was a two year Navy veteran. He was a member of Olive Springs Baptist church, retired from Lockheed as a numerical tool engineer and a member of Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Mr. Boling was one of the first three Scouts to make Eagle Scout in Cobb County and he coached girls softball at Milford Softball Association for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Brackett Boling of Powder Springs; daughter, Lynn B. Brewer of Powder Springs; brother, D.L. “Bo” Boling of Powder Springs; two grandchildren, Miranda and Tyler Brewer. Nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta with the Revs. John Darnell and Robert Truelove officiating. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Hazel Turner
Mrs. Hazel Turner, age 78 of Canton, passed away Feb. 22,2004 at the Canton Nursing Home. She was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Northside Hospital-Cherokee.
Survivors include her husband, H.L. (Henry) Turner of Canton; daughters, Judy Elliott, Holly Springs, Renay Thomas, Marietta, and Kathy Turner, Canton; sisters, Martha Jo Little, Ruthell Weaver and Rachel Jarvis, all of Canton. three grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Wayne Wright and Buddy Roper officiating. Interment was in Cherokee Memorial Park.
W.H. Kilpatrick
William Howard Kilpatrick, age 67 of Murphy, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tn.
A native and life-long resident of Cherokee County, N.C., he retired in 1990 after working 28 years with the US Forest Service as a tractor operator. He was a member of the River Valley Baptist Church on Hwy. 60 where he was a deacon for 37 years and had served as chairman of the Deacon Board. Howard was a devoted Christian and had read the Bible in its entirety three times. A family man, he loved his wife, his children, his granddaughter and all his family and was always willing to help in his community at any time. His hobbies were working with his cattle and going fishing. Howard was a son of the late Elijah Andrew and Virdie Josephine Jones Kilpatrick, and was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Frank Kilpatrick.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 from River View Baptist Church with the Revs. Waymon Lovell, Billy Anderson and Mike Totherow officiating. Burial was in River Valley Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Tim Davis, Donald Stiles, Joe Long, David Davenport, Matthew and Jerry Raper. Honorary pallbearers were: Cecil Allen, Fred Anderson, Johnny Hamby, Harold Gladson, the Revs. Robert Flowers and Richard Mashburn, Paul and Doc Ware, J.C. Owenby, Clark Byers, Lloyd Kilpatrick and all of Howard’s nephews and brothers-in-law. Townson-Rose Funeral Homes, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
Jackie Watkins
Mrs. Jackie Frix Watkins, age 48 of Dawsonville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at North Fulton Hospital in Roswell.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Watkins, Dawsonville; mother, Shirley Frix, Dawsonville; two sons, Kevin Slaton, Cumming, and Jonathan (John Bill) Watkins, Dawsonville; daughter, Karen Nalley, Cumming; brother, Billy Frix, Dawsonville; sister, Nancy Frix, Dawsonville. Six grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 from Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Dawson County with the Revs. Bill Chambers, Steve Chadwick and Scott Truitt officiating. Bessie Moore
Mrs. Bessie Moore, age 80 of Jasper, passed away Feb. 15, 2003 at Northside-Cherokee Hospital in Canton.
Survivors include her son, Roderick Moore, Jasper; and daughter, Pamela Zachary, Marietta. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by James Goss Jr., Kenneth Goss and Brenda Russell.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 19 from Friendship Baptist Church in Jasper with the Rev. Leland Jones officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: James Hayes, James, Benny and Kenny Robinson, Tim McKenzie, Fred Anderson Jr. and Bill Green. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
L.M. McElwaney
L.M. McElwaney, age 66 of Marietta, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2003. He was a retired MARTA bus driver for 32 years.
Survivors include his wife, Robbie Jean McElwaney, Marietta; daughters, Robin Elaine Buccini of Powder Springs and Kelly Jean Dupree of Marietta. Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Boyd Duncan
Mr. Boyd Duncan, age 60 of Ball Ground, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee following a sudden illness.
A native of Dawson County, he had lived in Cherokee County for the past 19 years having moved from Chatsworth. Mr. Duncan was an installer for Alltel Telephone Co. with 27 years of service. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam era. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silvie and Elizabeth Duncan.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Duncan, Ball Ground; daughters, Angie Duncan, Canton, and Kim Duncan, Ball Ground; sons, Stacy Duncan of Ball Ground and Jeff Duncan of Jasper; sister, Bonita Waters, Lula; brothers, Gene and Floyd Duncan, both of Dawsonville. Three grandsons and a number of other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. from Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Joey Gilbert and Lawton Burt officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
Ina Kirk
Mrs. Ina Maude Kirk, age 81 of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper.
Survivors include her husband, Hobbie Kirk of Talking Rock; sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh and Frances Gravley of Jasper and Ronnie and Barbara Kirk of Ellijay; sister, Sallie Parker of Jasper; two grandchildren, Keith and Deborah Gravley and Mitzi and Keith Bramlett; three great-grandchildren, Jamie and Rusty Gravley and Savannah Bramlett.
The funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. from Talking Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Weaver and Clyde Brock officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Wanda Jordan
Mrs. Wanda Jordan, age 54 of Ball Ground, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003 at Northside-Cherokee Hospital in Canton.
Survivors include her husband, Danny Jordan of Ball Ground; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Jennifer Jordan and Michael and Melissa Jordan, all of Ball Ground; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wylene and Charles Padgett of Jasper and Carolyn and Bruce Swan of Marietta; and three grandchildren, Hailey Jordan, Corey McGuckin and Tiffany Jordan, all of Ball Ground.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 21 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Allen, James Thompson and Nathan Smith officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper. Pallbearers were: Billy Parker, Dwight Kelly, Dwayne and Randy Jordan, David Gibson, Corey and Cody Thompson and Chuck Padgett.
Judy Sanger
Judy Chamberlin Sanger, age 63, passed away Feb. 19, 2003 at her home in Jasper, Ga. after a long battle with cancer.
Judy’s deep faith kept her actively involved at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Jasper. “Judy was a precious part of our Holy Family community,” said the Rev. Dr. E. Jerome Zeller. “Her searching spiritual life was a continuing inspiration. Also, her vital spirit, leadership and good humor helped make things sparkle as she led our choir and music program for several years. She graced our lives in so many ways.”
Judy’s passion for music began in her hometown of Beloit, Wi. There she began a 25 year association with Sweet Adelines International that created a lifetime of friendships throughout the country. Harmonizing with the Song of Atlanta and the Georgia Harmony, she was an integral voice to the gold medal-winning chorus during district competition. Her love of singing, designing costumes and competing was described as “joyous” by Mrs. Jerry Rogers who noted that Judy was accomplished as both a clear, high tenor and a baritone.
Judy is survived by her husband, Larry Sanger of Bent Tree; parents, Thirl and Viola Chamberlin of Beloit; sister, Karen (John) Bodouski of Appleton, Wi.; sons, Mark (Bridget) Jacquette of Pewaukee, Wi. and Brian (Kristi) Pahlas of Acworth, Ga.; Larry’s daughter, Brenda (Patrick) Glenn of Morton Grove, Il; Larry’s son, Jeffrey (Christy) Sanger of Littleton, Co. Eight grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was officiated by the Rev. Dr. E. Jerome Zeller from the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family on Sunday, Feb. 23. Contributions in honor of Judy may be made to the Episcopal Church Choir Program, 202 Griffith Rd., Jasper, Ga. 30143.
John Mooney
Mr. John Cotes Mooney, age 88 of Woodstock, passed away Feb. 24, 2003 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee.
Survivors include his wife, Vercel Mooney of Woodstock; son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Patricia Mooney, Dawsonville; daughter, Frances Waters, Woodstock; brothers, Hulen, W.C. and Arnold Mooney, all of Canton, and I.C. Mooney of Ellijay; sisters, Jose Mooney, Ellijay, and Nancy Mooney, Canton; sister-in-law, Gladys Mooney, Canton. Nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday at 11 a.m. from Huey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Truman Pyles officiating. Interment was in Mount Calvary Baptist Cemetery.
Mary Lou Bowers
Mrs. Mary Lou Bowers, age 68 of Jasper, passed away Feb. 23, 2003 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Bowers; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Bobby Delay, Jasper; eight brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Edgel, Clifford and Jeanette, Homer and Mary and Ernest Howard, all of Jasper, Fay and Shirley Howard, Tate, George and Pat Howard, Nelson, Rev. Ben and Barbara and Billy Howard, Dawsonville; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Stella Mae and Willard Mulkey, Dawsonville, Jeannie and David Harmon, Marble Hill, Lois Britt, Canton, and JoAnn and Larry Hayes, Jasper; granddaughter and husband, Crystal and David Merril, Jasper; great-granddaughter, Jordan Merrill, Jasper. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Eva Howard; and one brother, James.
