Georgia Mae Mullinax
Mrs. Georgia Mae Mullinax, age 79 of Talking Rock, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003.
Mrs. Mullinax was born April 16, 1923 in Pickens County, daughter of the late L.S. and Minnie James Kirk. She was retired from H.D. Lee Co., was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and the widow of Jack Mullinax.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Eloise and Paul Lindsey, Jasper; brothers, Horace C. and Glenn Kirk, both of Talking Rock. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Crossroads Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Allen officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Music was by the church choir. Pallbearers were: David Tippins, Gene Garland, Jack Godfrey, Bob Stanfield, Norman Kirk and Glen Mullinax. Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ashley Spears & Son, Damon Ford
Ashley Spears, age 20 of Jasper, Ga., and her 4-month son Damon Ford passed away as the result of an auto accident in Elkhart, In.
Ashley is survived by her parents, Billy and Sheree Spears, Jasper; son, Huston Ford, Jasper; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Katrina and Adam Gayton and Joni and Anthony Goode, all of Jasper. Two nieces and nephews also survive.
Damon is survived by his father, Billy Ford of Indiana; grandparents, Karen Ford, Jacksonville, Fl., and Houston Ford, Indiana, and Billy and Sheree Spears, Jasper; great-grandmother, Paula West; and brother, Houston Skylar Ford of Jasper.
The funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. on March 5, 2003 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Faulkner officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper. Pallbearers were: Billy Dolsen, Buddy McHale, Shawn Parker, Frank West III, Jeff and George Spears Jr.

Mr. Owen Smith
Mr. Owen Lisle Smith, age 44 of Talking Rock, passed away March 1, 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Smith of Talking Rock; daughter, Molly Preast; sisters, Sue Adkins, Janet Howington, Jackie Fisher and Winona Fischer, all of West Virginia, and Anna Williams of Oklahoma; brothers, Michael Lewis and Dale Smith, both of West Virginia.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 3 at 2 p.m. from Red Top Mountain State Park with the Rev. Diane Silverhawk officiating. The Cremation Society of the South was in charge of the arrangements.

Patricia Harrison
Mrs. Patricia Mulkey Harrison, age 68 of Cumming, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2003. She was a native of Pickens County
Mrs. Harrison was a member of Coal Mountain Baptist church and of the Cumming Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Harrison Taylor.
Survivors include her daughter, Christine Harrison, Cumming; grandchildren, Kelley and John Mullinax, Casie and Ashlea Taylor, all of Cumming; great-grandson, Hunter Mullinax, Cumming; brother and sister-in-law, Herdis and Lois Mulkey, Woodstock. A number of other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. from Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Danny Bennett and Ruel Martin officiating. Interment was in Coal Mountain Cemetery.

Betty Caylor
Mrs. Betty Faye Caylor, age 87 of Talking Rock, passed away March 3, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include brother-in-law, Loy Caylor, Jasper; three sisters-in-law, Louise C. Jones, Ednear P. and Eunice Caylor, all of Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held March 5 at 2 p.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Brock and James Wigington officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Martha Turner
Mrs. Martha Turner, age 86 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, 2003 at her residence.
Survivors include her daughter, Amelia Turner McIntyre, Jasper; sister, Ewina Frey, Washington; grandchildren, Virginia Pelman McIntyre and Arthur Jack McIntyre III and Erin Martha Judge.
The funeral service was held Monday, March 3 in Pascagoula, Mississippi with burial in MacPelah Cemetery. Holder Wells Funeral Home of Moss Point and Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

May Belle Craig
Mrs. May Belle Reece Craig, age 81 of Acworth (formerly of Pickens and Gilmer counties), passed away Friday, March 7, 2003 at Cartersville Medical Center.
Survivors include one brother, Dee W. Reece, Marietta; one sister, Tamer Trippe, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Holbert and Buck Parker officiating. Interment was in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dennis and Steven Smith, Derek Richardson, Michael Hammontree, Alan Coleman and Michael St. John.

William Byrd Jones
William Byrd Jones, age 65, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at his home due to diabetic complications.
Mr. Jones was born in Little Rock, Ar. and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He has lived in Pickens County for the past 18 years. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kenneth D. Bailey. He was a retired real estate agent.
Survivors include his wife, Edie Jones; one daughter, Nicole Jones DiStasio and herhusband Kevin J. DiStasio of Chattanooga, Tn.; three sons, William Alexander Hall and his wife Stephanie Jones Hall of Jasper, William Alexandre Jones and his wife Carla Antonelli Jones of Parma, Italy and Weston Turpin Hall and his wife Julie Jones Hall of New Orleans; one granddaughter, Sydney Dianne Hall of Jasper; four brothers, Clay Jones of Berkley, Ca., Roger Jones ofBenton, Ar., Tim Byrd of Lakewood, Ca. and John Byrd of Durango, Co.
The family will receive friends at Cagle Funeral Home in Jasper on Friday, Jan. 30 from 5-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Jasper.

Dr. Charles S. Callahan
Dr. Charles Samuel Callahan, age 73 of Kennesaw, went to be with his Lord on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at Kennestone Hospital. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Acworth First Baptist Church with the Revs. J.T. McHan and Bobby Therrell officiating. Burial was in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Tate, Ga.
Born in Pickens County, son of Hill and Grace Fann Callahan, Dr. Callahan graduated from Truett McConnell College and received his doctorate from Bethany Theological Seminary. He was pastor of several churches including Nelson Baptist, East Lake, Decatur, Shady Grove, Pensacola, Fl., University Baptist, Brookhaven, Acworth First Baptist, Macland Baptist (Interim), Wofford’s Cross Roads, White, Ga., Awtrey Baptist, Acworth. Dr. Callahan was also the founding pastor of Beulah Land Baptist Church, Acworth, and most recently associate pastor of Mt. Olivet Baptist, Acworth. He formerly served as moderator of the Noonday Baptist Association of Churches. He was a charter member of the Kennworth Golden “K” Kiwanis Club. During the Ernest W. Barrett administration, Charles served as personnel director for Cobb County Government. He also worked in the Roads Department and part-time as a courtroom bailiff. At the time of his death, he was a representative with Collins & Hay-Gantt Funeral Homes and owner of Beulah Land Tours where he and Mrs. Callahan hosted 26 trips to Bible lands over the years.
He was a part of a rapidly vanishing generation of integrity and character that survived the depression and World War II to build a strong and nurturing post-war America. He was an unpretentious, genuine and authentic man. But, above all was Charles’s love for his family. He was the most beloved and exceptionally generous husband, father, brother, friend, leader, minister, mentor and grandfather (“Papa”). He was a tremendous family role model.
He is survived by his loving wife and indispensable partner, Barbara Philyaw Callahan of Kennesaw; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Melissa Worley Callahan and Sammy and Wanda Chalker Callahan; grandchildren, Carrie, Matt, Emily and Clinton, all of Marietta; sisters, Margaret Dobson and Emily Wheeler of Jasper.
Contributions may be made to Cool Springs Cemetery Fund, PO Box 22, Tate, Ga. 30177 (Memorial Funds) or First Baptist Church of Bethlehem, c/o Natm Khoury, PO Box 323, Bethlehem Israel.

Mae Shuman
Mae Frances Shuman, age 51 of Dawsonville, Ga., passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004.
A native of Atlanta and a homemaker, her passion was taking care of her family, farm and her horses. Mrs. Shuman was preceded in death by her father, T.R. Sockwell.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Steve Shuman of Dawsonville; mother, Helen Sockwell of Roswell; daughter, Claire Shuman of Dawsonville; son, Dan Shuman of Dawsonville, sister, Elaine Sockwell of Winder; and brothers, Ty Sockwell of Columbiana, Al. and Thomas Sockwell of Duluth.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. from McDonald & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. John Tarrant and Maitland Laforce officiating.

James H. Wheeler Jr.
Mr. James H. Wheeler Jr., age 86 of Ball Ground, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Mr. Wheeler was a WW II Navy veteran and also served in the Pacific on a submarine tender. He was retired from Lockheed and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his son, John Henry Wheeler of Jasper; daughters, Virginia Davis of Marietta and Donna Westbrook of Ball Ground. Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
A graveside service was held Friday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. from Ball Ground City Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Blackwell officiating.

Reginald Chatman
Mr. Reginald B. Chatman, age 55 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Chatman of Holly Springs; mother, Frances Chatman of Jasper; daughter, Felecia Jones of Dacula, Ga.; brothers, Danny Chatman and Steve Dawson, both of Jasper, and Cedric Dawson of Cleveland, Ga.; sisters, Beverly Hooks and Andria Johnson, both of Jasper; two grandchildren, Kyle and Jaylon Jones.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Revs. Wofford Bailey and Henry Brown officiating. Interment was in the Norton Cemetery. The wake service was held Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 7-8 p.m. at Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. R.S. Thomas officiating.

O.C. Parker
Mr. O.C. “Pops” Parker,age 86 of Nelson, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at his residence. He was a WW II veteran and decorated with the Purple Heart. He served his country aboard the USS Atlanta.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and ShirleyParker, Clayton Community, and Seth Parker, Nelson; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Parker and Phillip Bourque, Cumming; sister, Jo Wilson, Ludville; granddaughter, Candace Bourque; and three grandsons, Lawrence Parker Jr. and Brian and Tristan Bourque.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. from Pleasant Hill Christian Church with Mister Glenn Sims officiating. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ferman Cantrell
Mr. Ferman Cantrell, age 96 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at his residence.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bob Stancil, Taylor, Tx., Jean and Ron Riner, North Carolina, and Joyce and Denham Johnson, Jasper. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Joey DuBoise and Harley D. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Gerald and Marvin Gibson, Gerald Tippens, Kenneth, Larry and Ray Poole. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to the Philadelphia Baptist Church. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Avalon Bryant
Mrs. Avalon Woodruff Bryant died peacefully in her home in Jasper, Ga. on Jan. 25, 2004. Born is Norfolk, Va. on March 13, 1927, she was the daughter of Kathleen Murphy and Theodore Maxwell Woodruff. She attended college at the University of Michigan where she met her husband, Dr. Milton F. Bryant Jr. An Atlanta resident for 50 years, Mrs. Bryant was past president of the Medical Association of Georgia Auxiliary and volunteered in the organization’s Outreach programs. Passionate about wine, art and travel, she was actively involved in several area wine clubs including the Knights of the Vine and the Commanderie de Bordeaux.
Mrs. Bryant is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Bryant and Lee Mullins of Jasper; sons, Jonathan Bryant and his wife Miriam of Statesboro, Ga. and Douglas Bryant and his wife Nancy of Atlanta, Ga. Nine grandchildren whom she loved dearly also survive. In the last years of her life, four devoted individuals helped care for her: Josephina Arvizu, Christina Contreras and Lisa and Bertie Stanley.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Banks officiating. Interment was at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta. The family did receive friends Tuesday evening at the home of Doug and Nancy Bryant. Memorial donations may be made to the Milton F. Bryant Lectureship Endowment c/o Dr. James Stanley, University of Michigan Health Systems, 1500 Medical Center Dr., Section of Vascular Surgery TC 2210, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109-0329.

Fred Boling
Mr. Fred Boling Sr., age 92 of Doraville, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors are his wife of 73 years, Lorene Boling; son and daughter-in-law, Fred J. Boling Jr. and Paulette, Lynfield, Ma.; two grandchildren, Todd Michael and Kristen Caroline K. Boling. Four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Boling was preceded in death by his parents, Mac and Dora Boling; and two sons, Charles Michael and James Ralph.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Fred Boling Jr., Pastors Terry Cohron and David Whited officiating. Interment was in Cool Springs Baptist Church. The family requests in lieu of flowers, make donations to St. Joseph’s Hospital Heart Unit at: St. Joseph’s Hospital, 5623 Peachtree-Dunwoody Rd. NE, Ste. 650, Atlanta, Ga. 30342. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
