Esther Bryant
Mrs. Esther Bryant, age 90 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at Mountain Health Care.
Survivors include stepson and daughter-in-law, Elmo Carl and Suzie Bryant, Swainsboro, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Elene and Johnny Rich, Jasper; step-daughter and son-in-law, Velma and Robert Grimes, Cartersville, Ga.; grandchild, Jamie Rich, Toccoa, Ga. Three great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Hollis Crook and Rembert Hancock officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. The body did lie in state at the church from 1:30 until the funeral hour. Pallbearers were: Bill Barrett, Carl (Buck) Bryant, Johnny Hairr, Scott Wilkins, Johnny Hall and Jamie Rich. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Loretta White
Mrs. Loretta L. White, age 82 of Jasper, passed early Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, 2004 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert T. White, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, William C. and Ollie White, Ball Ground, and John T. and Rebecca White, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Pete Jones, Canton, Melinda and Andy Edwards and Cindy and Bill White, all of Jasper; brother, Joseph G. Pugh, Jacksonville Beach, Fl. Twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. from Cool Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Martin officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with the local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of military graveside services. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church. The following served as pallbearers: Chad, Jason, Parris and Dan White, Jeremy Jones and Trip Edwards. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
M.W. Luckey, Sr.
Mr. Marion Wilkerson Luckey, Sr., 87, son of Amos Daniel Luckey and Berta
Marie Wilkerson Luckey, was born June 28, 1917 in Harlem, Ga. and died
March 8, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. Luckey was a graduate of the University of Georgia class of 1938.
While at the University, he was a member of the following: 'G' Club, Varsity
Boxing, Scabbard & Blade Military Society, Delta Sigma Pi Commerce
Fraternity and Pi Kappa Phi Social Fraternity. He received a BA degree
in Commerce with a Major in Marketing. Upon graduating, he went to work
for The Kellogg Sales Co. as a salesman in Georgia, Florida and Alabama. After
two years he resigned and bought an interest in Bell Food Brokerage Co. in
Augusta. In December 1940, he entered the Army as a reserve Second Lt.
and served five years on active duty. He was honorable discharged as Major
in 1945.
He returned to his home town and entered a partnership in The Pecan
Shelling and Processing Business in Harlem. He was National Sales and
Procurement Officer. Later the businessıs name was changed to
Tracy-Luckey Co., Inc. He is past president of National Pecan Shellers, past
president of Harlem Recreation Association Center, past chairman of Administrative
Board Harlem United Methodist Church and was a teacher of W.E. Hatcher Sunday
School Class. He was a member of Augusta Country Club and the Augusta
Golf Association. He was also past president of the Rotary Club.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Marjorie Mann Luckey
of Harlem; and children, Dr. Tom Mann Luckey, Decatur, Marion Wilkerson
Luckey, Jr., and Catherine Weir Luckey of Augusta, Dr. Marjorie Marie Bender
and Dr. Sidney Bender, New York City and Janet Jane Luckey Short and Jack
Malcolm Short of Jasper, Ga. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday March 13 at the
Harlem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Vest officiating. Mr.
Luckeyıs grandsons served as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests a donation to the Harlem United Methodist Church, PO Box 39,
Harlem, Ga. 30814 or a charity of you choice. Starling Funeral Home of
Harlem was in charge of the arrangements.
Millie Hogan
Mrs. Millie Geneva Hogan, age 86 of Jasper, Ga., passed away
Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at her home in Jasper.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Milton
'Mo' Fountain of Jasper and Sarah and Cicero Stone of Ludville; brother and
sister-in-law, Tom and Pat Fowler of Hampton; special friends, Rita and
Glenda Fountain; grandchildren, Diane and Ronnie Worley of Ball Ground,
Donna and Mark Chastain and Kristie and Jody Sewell, all of Ellijay,
Darlene and Gene Shaw and Brandy and Ronnie Davis, all of Ludville. Eleven
great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 from the
Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Mark Chastain, Tom Fowler and
Larry Eubanks officiating. Interment was in the Jasper City Cemetery.

Clara Barnes
Mrs. Clara Barnes, age 83 of Jasper, passed away Friday, March 11,
2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Jack Stone,
Brenda and Jack Bean, Shirley and Jackie Mitchell and Becky and Lee
Bass; brother, Ralph Wilkie; sister, Grace Wilkie. Nine grandchildren, 15
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husbands, Birless Perry and E.C.
Barnes; and a brother, Alvin Wilkie.
The funeral service was held Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. from the
Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Cantrell, Johnny Garrison
and Von J. Hinton officiating. Interment followed in the Jasper City Cemetery.
Carl Chumley
The Rev. Carl M. Chumley, age 84 of Jasper, passed away March 10, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. Chumley was a member of Chapter #47 DAV, Marble Hill Masonic
Lodge #207, a Baptist minister and served on the Pickens County Board of
Education. Survivors include his wife, Louise Free Chumley of the home;
daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Donald Prather, Wanda and Jim Hunt and Sarah
and Paul Crowe. Three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several
nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter,
Cindy Caylor Brown.
The funeral service was held Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. from
Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny McPherson, Lamar Frady and Terry Dean
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Pickens
County #47 DAV in charge of military graveside rites. Roper Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.
Myrtle Pilcher
Mrs. Myrtle A. Pilcher, age 79 of Jasper, passed away Thursday,
March 10, 2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include one son, Randy Pilcher, Jasper, special niece,
Carolyn Cash; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Friday, March 11 at 2 p.m. from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Leo Beller and Gary Gable
officiating. Interment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Calhoun. Pallbearers were:
T.J. Flowers, Grey Chancy, Greg Cash, Chad Lockey, David Roberts and Brandon Jarrett.
Rocky Delay, Sr.
Mr. Rocky Lee Delay, Sr., age 50 of Cumming, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005.
He was retired from Wrightıs Plastic with over 30 years of service and
was employed at Liberty Middle School in the janitorial services. He
was a local youth football and baseball coach for several years in Forsyth
County. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ray and Oveline Roxie
Delay. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Mullinax Delay, Cumming; sons and
daughter-in-law, Randy Edward Ray Delay and Rocky Lee, Jr. and Kendra
Delay, all of Cumming; brothers and sisters, Bobby and Joyce Delay, James
Delay, Diane Duford and Jean White, all of Jasper; grandchildren, Miranda,
Connor, Colton and Hunter Delay; step-children, Jeff and Dana McBrayer,
Gainesville, and Christy and Wayne McBee, Loganville; five step-grandchildren;
mother-in-law, Catherine Mullinax; brothers-in-law, Willie Mullinax,
Braselton, and Barry L. Mullinax, Cumming; sisters-in-law, Beverly and
Lanny Shadburn and Reba and Bobby Castleberry, all of Cumming; Brandy Delay,
mother of Miranda, Conner and Hunter; and best friend, David W. Martin
of Cumming. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, March 11 at 11 a.m. from Ingram
Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Tony Estes and Lamar Day
officiating. Interment was in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
Bess Gardner
Mrs. Bess Rowan Gardner of Jasper, Ga. passed away on Saturday,
March 12, 2005 after a long illness.
Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Watts
Gardner, Sr. She is survived by her son, David Rowan Gardner, and
daughter-in-law, Martha Beesley Gardner of Jasper; daughter, Lucy
GardnerDickerson and son-in-law Mark Alan Dickerson; step-sons, James Watts
Gardner, Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., John C. Gardner of Bettendorf, Ia.
and Joseph H. Gardner of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, Bennett Rowan
Gardner, Katherine Kirk Gardner, Claire Dixon, Sarah Elizabeth (Bess) Dickerson,
Stephen and Mitchell Ball. Eleven step-grandchildren and several beloved
nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Gardner was born in Henry County, Ga. where she grew up with
three sisters and a brother. She and her family were members of Mount Carmel
Methodist Church. She graduated from Hampton High School with first
honors and received a Bachelor of Education degree from Georgia State College
for Women (GSCW). After marrying, raising two children and teaching high
school English for several years, she received her Masterıs degree in Guidance
and Counseling from the University of Florida. She worked as a high school
counselor in Florida and in DeKalb County Schools in Atlanta until she
retired in 1975.
Mrs. Gardner was a devoted church woman, always involved in church
work along with her husband, a Methodist minister who served as a US Army
Chaplain in WW II and in the Cuba, Florida and North Georgia Methodist
Conferences. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, led Epworth
League and Methodist Youth Fellowship Groups and was active in United
Methodist Women.
A memorial service will be held at Jasper United Methodist Church at
2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Gertrude Carringer
The Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Ga. announces the
death of Gertrude T. Carringer of Acworth, Ga., formerly of Jasper, who passed
away Sunday, March 13, 2005 in the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Gertrude was born in Fannin County on Oct. 5, 1915 to the late Adrin
and Mary Weaver Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harve
Carringer.
Survivors include her step-daughters, Lois Mallonee of Murphy, N.C.
and Helen Waldroup of Marietta; sister, Katherene Godfrey of McCaysville;
and brother, Roy Brown of Acworth.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 16 at 1 p.m. from
Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Chastain
Memorial Park.
George Jurkiewitsch
George Jurkiewitsch, age 84, resident of Big Canoe, Ga. for 18 years, passed away March 9, 2004 at his residence. He was a German citizen and was a research scientist with the Hercules Co. and had many patents in his name. During WW II he served as a German U-Boat officer.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Peek Jurkiewitsch, Big Canoe; step-son, Jason P. Peek, Conyers; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Amanda and Phil Christy, Loganville; sister, Vera Chareptowsky, Chicago. Five grandchildren and a niece in Germany also survive.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m. from Big Canoe Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center,PO Box 579, Jasper, Ga. 30143. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lloyd Cates
Mr. Lloyd Cates, age 57 of Jasper, passed away Sunday evening, March 7, 2004 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Kelly Cates, Jasper; mother, Myrtle Byrd Cates; son, Charles Cates, Roswell; daughter, Heather Burkham, Commerce, Tx. Four grandchildren also survive.
A private memorial service was held Saturday, March 13 at the residence. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Tommy McMillen
Mr. Tommy McMillen, age 54 of Canton, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004. He was an electrician and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Reece McMillen; daughter, Jodie Bentley, Canton; step-daughters, Andria Blanton and Jennifer Turner, both of Ball Ground; brother, Charles McMillen, Canton; sisters, Jane Robinson, Jasper, and Judy Lively, Ball Ground. Five grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, March 12 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Edmondson officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park.
John Roberts Pinholster
John Roberts Pinholster died suddenly Saturday, March 6, 2004 in Daytona, Fl. He was 28.
John is survived by his loving parents, mother, Caroline Isbell Roberts of Atlanta and father and step-mother, Garland F. Pinholster and Darsa Pinholster of Ball Ground.
Johns parents had always remained united in love and in their commitment to raising and nurturing John who was born Jan. 24, 1976 in Northside Hospital, Atlanta. John attended the Holy Innocents Episcopal School through 8th grade. He graduated from Academy High School and then completed several years of technical college. He worked as a fabricator for Specialty Car Co. and maintained a working garage as well as a mini-sewing factory at home where he never stopped inventing.
John had received awards and press coverage for his hydraulics-powered dancing hip-hop car, the Disco Biskit. His car designs earned a personal letter of encouragement from Chryslers Lee Iacocca when John was only 10. He was a talented creator of unique fashions too, with an original sense of humor and style.
John is also survived by a sister and her husband, Margaret Anderson and Ralph; her daughter and baby, Theresa Johnson and baby Sage of Atlanta; sister and husband, Ginger Pinholster Stahley and M. Otto, and their daughter, Caroline Stahley of FallsChurch, Va.; sister and husband, Carrie Wisniewski and Joe, and their son Bart of Norcross; and sister Katie Pinholster of Atlanta.
John was an innovative thinker, beloved son, brother and friend, and a gentle soul. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
A private service for family and friends was held at Patterson Funeral Home of Sandy Springs with the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family Priest the Rev. Frank Wilson of Jasper officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dorothy Sullivan Scholarship Fund at the Holy Innocents Episcopal School, 805 Mount Vernon Hwy., NW, Atlanta, Ga. 30328. Arrangements were by H.M. Patterson & Son of Sandy Springs.
Charlotte Ruff
Mrs. Charlotte Gibson Ruff, age 43 of Marietta, passed away Feb. 13, 2004.
She is survived by her husband, Sammy Ruff; daughter, Stacey Ruff; son, Shawn Robert Ruff; mother, Glenda Rhea Gibson, all of Marietta; father, William Wallace Gibson; brother, William Wallace Gibson Jr., both of Jasper.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating.
Anna Daniels
Mrs. Anna Lee Daniels, age 71 of Marble Hill, formerly of Wheatland, Ok., passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at her home.
She is survived by her husband, Doyle Daniels, Marble Hill; sons, Michael Daniels, Lawrenceville, David Daniels, Dacula, and Byron Daniels, Marble Hill. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with David LaGrand officiating.
