Mary Alice Dean
Miss Mary Alice Dean, age 59 of Ball Ground, passed awayMarch 27, 2003 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. She was preceded by her father, William Dean; and brothers, Jimmy, Jay, Jessie and Jerry Dean.
Survivors include her mother, Hazel Dean, Ball Ground; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Martha Dean, Jonesboro, Tom and Betty Dean, Canton, and Joe and Arlene Dean, Nelson; sister, Margie Hughes, Cisco, Ga.; and special friend, Johnny Rampley. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, March 30 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Alton Burrell officiating. Interment was in PanWill Cemetery near Copperhill, Tn. Pallbearers were: Tommy and Steve Dean, Johnny Kennedy, Jason Anderson, Hulon Dodd and Bret Crowe.
Wayne Hester
Mr. Wayne Hester, age 54 of Jasper, passed away in the Atlanta VA Hospital on March 29, 2003. He was a self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Hester, Jasper; sons, Butch Hester, Alpharetta, and Rocky Hester, Jasper; daughters, Mattie Hester, Kokomo, In., and Lisa Elrod, Cumming; mother, Irene Bailey, Alpharetta; brothers, Grady Hester, Tucker, and Michael Hester, Canton; sister, Carolyn Brewer, Cumming. Ten grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 31 at 5 p.m. from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Grady Hester officiating.
Ernestine Elliott
Mrs. Ernestine “Nicky” Elliott, age 69 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at Portsbridge Hospice Facility in Atlanta.
Survivors include her son, Tommy Franklin Odum Jr., Acworth; daughters, Tina Marie Jenkins, Villa Rica, and Debbie Brooks Mullinax, Jasper; three step-children; sister, Dorothy Abernathy, Mableton. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday evening, March 27 at 7 with Minister Jake Padgett officiating. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lois Bagwell
Mrs. Lois Nell McJunkins Bagwell, age 76 of Jasper, passed away
Monday, March 28, 2005.
Mrs. Bagwell was born April 1, 1928 in Fannin County, the daughter
of the late George and Alice Farmer McJunkins. She was a homemaker and member
of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper.
Survivors include her husband, Clyde Bagwell of the home; son and
daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jana Bagwell, Virginia; daughters and
sons-in-law,
Susan and Donnie Holmes, Ranger, and Diane and Jim Stone, Jasper. Eight
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, March 30 at 3 p.m. from the
Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper with the Rev. Ben Langley officiating.
Music was by Sam, David and Allison Holmes, Larry Reece and Vickie White.
Pallbearers were: Donny, Sam and David Holmes, Jim Stone, Josh Williams
and Jeff Bagwell. Interment was in the Yukon Cemetery under the direction
of Bernhardt Funeral Home.
Lamar Cloer
Mr. Lamar H. Cloer, age 70 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, April 2,
2005 at the VA Medical Center in Decatur, Ga.
Mr. Cloer is survived by his sisters, Sylvia Hasty of Jasper and
Sandra Grant of Port Isabell, Tx. Nieces and nephews Barry Hasty, Wendy Coker
and Chad Hasty also survive.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 from the
Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Herb Flanders officiating.
Interment was in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Pickens County Chapter #47
DAV in charge of military graveside rites.
Tom McFarland
Mr. Tom Allen McFarland, age 78 of Jasper, passed away at the Brian
Center Monday, March 28, 2005. He was a poultry farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyne McFarland; daughters, Sandra
Lathem of Canton and Allene Lawson of Jasper; brothers, Sam and Clyde
McFarland, both of Canton, and Bob McFarland of Jasper; and sister, Ruby Wallace
of Canton. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, March 30 at 3 p.m. from
Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Allen and Marvin Chatham
officiating.
Interment was in the church cemetery with Huey Funeral Home of Canton
in charge of arrangements.
Betty Fowler
Mrs. Betty Darnell Fowler, age 76 of Jasper, passed away Friday,
April 1, 2005 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Charles H. Fowler, Jasper; sons,
John C. and Jim Fowler, both of Jasper; brothers, William H. Darnell, Canton,
and Watson Darnell, Jasper; sisters, Berde Milsap and June O¹Shields, both
of Jasper, and Jane Keel, Stone Mountain; grandchildren, Brian Fowler,
Lawrenceville, Shelbi and Cameron Fowler, both of Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3 from
Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Brock and William Darnell
officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. The following served as
pallbearers: Rex Milsap, Jeff Keel, Peter and Robin Darnell, Gary
Duncan, Tommy and Joe Chumley and Paul Bennett. The family did accept flowers
or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Paul Holcombe
Mr. Paul Holcombe, age 66 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed away Sunday,
April 3, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. Holcombe was a member of Sharpe Mountain Baptist Church. He was
retired from Lockheed Ga. and the US Postal Service. Mr. Holcombe was
the world¹s best lemonade maker.
Survivors include loving nieces and nephews and several cousins.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, April 5 at 2 p.m. from Huey
Funeral Home Chapel in Canton. Interment was in Cherokee Memorial Park with the
Revs. Greg Hamilton and Charles Davis officiating.
Atha Jackson
Mrs. Atha Mae Jackson, age 75 of Canton, Ga., passed away Wednesday,
April 6, 2005 at the Canton Nursing Center.
Survivors include her mother, Belle Farrow of Jasper; and son,
Marvin Jackson of Canton.
The funeral service was held Sunday, April 10 from Friendship
Baptist Church in Jasper with interment in the Norton Cemetery on Cove Road.
The Rev. Robert Holmes officiated. A wake service was held Saturday, April
9 from 6-8 p.m. at Roper Funeral Home in Jasper, who was in charge of the
arrangements.
Eddie Moss
Mr. Eddie Moss, age 55 of Talking Rock (Hinton Community), passed
away Tuesday afternoon, April 5, 2005 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in
Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer S. Moss, Hinton Community;
mother, Annie Lee Moss, Hinton Community; special grandmother, Bessie Richards, Ellijay; sons and daughters-in-law, Scotty and Kristie Moss and Kevin and Kelly Moss, all of the Hinton Community; sister and brother-in-law,
Margaret and Virgil Chastain, Hinton Community. Three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, April 7 at 2 p.m. from Hinton
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cliff Nelson officiating.
Interment followed in the Hinton Community Cemetery with Gary Brendel, Keith Thomason, Gerald Loudermilk, Larry Watson, Virgil Chastain and Shane Moss serving as pallbearers. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Dennis Fuller
Mr. Dennis E. Fuller, age 58 of Jasper, passed away Friday, April 8,
2005 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Fuller was born August 23, 1946. A native of Mableton, he had
lived in Jasper for a year, having moved from Cherokee County. An avid
runner, Mr. Fuller was an office manager for Haygood Contracting and was a US Army veteran of Vietnam. He was a member of New Lebanon Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruth Fuller. Survivors include his wife, Janet Clark Fuller, Jasper; children,
Rick and Laura Dorsey, Fayetteville, Ga., Liz Dorsey, Franklin, N.C., and
Clark Dorsey, Atlanta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Evelyn, Bobby
and Joyce and Jerry and Nell Fuller, all of Cobb County; and grandchildren,
Summer and Erin Dorsey. Other relatives also survive.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 16 at 11 a.m. from
the New Lebanon Presbyterian Church, 389 Bent Tree Dr., Jasper. The Rev.
Ben Laughlin will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the
church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Lebanon or your
favorite charity. Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy Palmer
Dorothy Brookshire Palmer, age 76 of Marietta, passed away Monday,
April 11, 2005. Mrs. Palmer was an avid shopper.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Palmer Yoeman
and Richard of Woodstock and Kathy and Wade Matchett of Acworth; sister, Jo Ann Mitchell of Marietta; brothers, B.C. Haygood of Dallas, Ga. and James Haygood of Lithia Springs, Ga.; grandchildren, Tammie Hill of Jasper
and Jeff Matchett of Acworth; and great-grandchildren, Johnathon and Ashley
Hill, both of Jasper.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14 from
Castellaw Funeral Home Jonquil Chapel. Burial will be in Kennesaw
Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
T.J. Chastain
T.J. (Theodore Jakub) Chastain, beloved son of James and Karen Chastain of Hong Kong, died March 29, 2003 due to an accidental fall at his home in Shanghai, China.
T.J. was a graduate from The Hong Kong International School and had recently acquired undergraduate degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Rita) Jakubowski of Erie, Pa. Local relatives include grandparents, the late Rev. Olen Chastain and Mrs. Roselle Holt Chastain of the Gilmer Nursing Home; heart-broken uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Patricia) Chastain, Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Annette) Hefner and Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Sara) Cantrell.
A memorial service was planned for April 9 in Hong Kong. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that you make a donation to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1860 Mt. Mr. Jack Hales, age 67 of Jasper, passed away Friday morning, April 11, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper.
Surviving are his wife, Inez Hales, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Judy Hales, Jasper, and Robby and Jerry Ann Hales, Adairsville; brother, Billy Hales, Tate; grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, Sierra and Emma Hales.
The funeral service was held Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerry Weaver and Larry Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery with Keith Hales, Bill Barrett, ChadIvey, Curtis Roper, Ken Aaron, Doug Sweatman, Corey Rich and Johnny Dean serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Luke Denson and Tommy Frady.

Mr. Tommy Welch, age 48 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday evening, April 8, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include his brother, Charles Welch, Lula, Ga.; sisters, Tina Cochran of Douglasville and Martha Singleterry of Durant, Miss.

William Dunlap
Mr. William E. Dunlap, age 84 of Big Canoe, Ga., passed away April 13, 2003 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Dunlap was born April 3, 1919 to the late Leo W. and Nora Haddix Dunlap of Ionia County, Michigan. He was a member of the Episcopal church of the Holy Family.
Survivors include one sister; three brothers of Greenville; nieces, Nancy Loveal and Margaret Culver of Michigan; companion, Donald R. Myers of Big Canoe.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. April 24 from the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Memorial Park Funeral Home of Gainesville was in charge of the arrangements.
Polly Dobson
Mrs. Polly Dobson, age 78 of Jasper, passed away April 17, 2003 at her residence.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Vickie Dobson and Jim Dobson, all of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Charles Coleman, Jenny and Sonny Underwood and Joanne and Keith Wall, all of Jasper; sister, Lillie Mae Bennett, Columbus, Ga. Eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19 from Marble Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Phillip Burt, Jerry Weaver and Harold Bottoms officiating. Jack Rick gave the Eulogy. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Jim, Brett, Todd and Dan Dobson, Will Mathews, Jason Coleman, John and Bill Rick and Jim Richards. Danny Rick served as an honorary pallbearer. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Saxon
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Worley Saxon, age 86 of Jasper, passed away at Mountainside Medical Center on April 18, 2003. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker.
Survivors include sons, Charles and Larry Bruner, both of Jasper; daughters, Betty Jean Garrison, Talking Rock, and Brenda Spence of Jasper; sister, Edna Johnson, Florida. Ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, April 20 at 2 p.m. from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Benny Clark officiating. Interment was in Ball Ground Cemetery.
Lola Thomason
Mrs. Lola Dean Thomason, age 96 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper.
Survivors include her son, Phillip Thomason of Ball Ground; daughter, Louise Price of Kennesaw; and brother, W.R. Dean of Jasper. Four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Thomason was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Thomason in 1965; and son, Truman Thomason in 1998.
The funeral service was held Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m. from County Line Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery with Revs. Hugh Fields and Larry Eubanks officiating. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lee Scott
Mr. Lee B. Scott, age 75 of Bent Tree, passed away April 19, 2004 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Scott of Bent Tree; sons, John Leslie Scott of Conyers and James Robert Scott of Sandy Springs; daughters, Diane Lee Scott of California and Sherrie Lynn Scott of Duluth. Eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
