Doyle Parker
Mr. Doyle W. Parker, Korean Conflict Veteran of US Army, age 71 of the Grandview Lake Community of Jasper (Pickens County), passed away Friday, May 30, 2003 at 9:15 a.m. at Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper.
He was born Thursday, Jan. 21, 1932 to Homer and Gladys Lowery Parker of Pickens County.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Parker, Jasper; son, David H. Parker, Jasper; mother-in-law, Janie Mills Baldridge, Jasper; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Olin (Bud) Mills Jr. and Carol, Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Marsha Parker, Ball Ground, Jerry and Brenda Mathews Parker, Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy Barnes and Jimmy Spence, Jasper, Dorothy (Dot) Quinton and Will Henderson, Ellijay, Mary Dean and Jack Godfrey and Lola Dell and Bryan Emory, all of Talking Rock, Helen Thomason and Clinton Walker and Kathleen Watkins, all of Ball Ground. A whole host of friends, family and neighbors also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, June 2 at 2 p.m. from the Talking Rock Baptist Church in Talking Rock with the Revs. Kenneth Kirk and Howard J. Cantrell, both of Talking Rock, and William Darnell of Canton officiating. Prayer was by Bro. Jimmy Kelly. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of Military graveside services. Serving as pallbearers were: Jeff Manous, Wesley Cook, Mark Jones, Sam Whitmore, James (Jim) Quinton and Jimmy Kelly. Honorary pallbearers were: Mr. Glenn Jarrett and Mr. Benny Whitmore, both of Jasper, and Mr. Seburn Godfrey, Talking Rock. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth G. Thurman
Mr. Kenneth G. Thurman, age 48 of Talking Rock, passed away May 31, 2003. The body remained at Cagle Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Hollis Crook officiating.
Survivors are his father and stepmother, Wayne and Janie Thurman, Talking Rock; one daughter and son-in-law, Kristina and Kevin Crook, Ranger; two grandchildren, Joseph and Kolbi Crook, Ranger; brothers and sister-in-law, Richard Thurman, Ellijay, Jerry and Patsy Thurman, Ellijay. Several nieces and nephews and one great niece also survive. He is preceeded in death by mother, Ruth Thurman; brother, Junior Thurman and sister, Ruth Ann Thurman.
The family will accept rooted pots or wicker baskets or donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Richard Little
Mr. Richard Little, age 78 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Little, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sheryl Little, Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Charles and Chloe Little, Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Amanda and Kevin Kreft and Marsha and Steve Desillas; step-grandchildren, Michelle O’Brien and Marsha and Steve Desillas; step-great-grandson, Stefan Desillas; brother-in-law, Bill Johnston, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, June 19 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Ron Rucker and Bob Kerr officiating. Interment was in Jasper City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Lee Dunn, Dub Lawson, Frank Wheeler, Tim Butler, Jeff Little and Gerald Gilbert. The family accepted flowers or donations may be made to Cornerstone Church, PO Box 790, Jasper, Ga. 30143.

Maria Nolan
Mrs. Maria Josephine Nolan, age 77, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at her residence in Jasper.
She was employed for 20 years with Northern Bell Phone Co. and was a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was also a resident of Bent Tree for two years and moved to Florida in 1998. Mrs. Nolan also operated MGN Television Entertainment which produced the Jackie Mason Show. She was the operations manager for the Bay Harbor Inn in Bay Harbor, Fl.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mahria and Warren Smith of Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Peggy Margotta of Florida and Tom and Nancy Margotta of South Carolina; grandchild, Bronwyn Hicks of Jasper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Nolan, and brother, Armond Margotta.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28 from Jasper United Methodist Church with the Rev. Herb Flanders officiating. Burial will be at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, N.Y. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alton Brown
Mr. Alton Brown, age 74 of Marble Hill, passed away Friday, June 20, 2003 at Northside-Cherokee Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Brown, Marble Hill; sons and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Debbie Brown and Keith Brown, all of Marble Hill; daughter, Diane Blackwell, Marble Hill; brother, Doug Brown, Anderson, S.C.; three sisters, Mildred Brown, Anderson, S.C., Johnnie Lee Cleveland, Hartwell, Ga., and Virginia Jones, Hartwell. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, June 22 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Bottoms and Lawton Burt officiating. Interment was in Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Todd and Brian Brown, Scotty and Andy Blackwell, Chris Kendrick, Greg Allen and Larry Watkins. The family did accept flowers but donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Peggy Duncan
Mrs. Peggy S. Duncan, age 66 of Jasper, formerly of Cherokee County, passed away at her residence on June 19, 2003. She was a member of Chalcedonia Baptist Church and was employed as a cook.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Rutledge of Jasper, Tony and Jeffery Duncan, both of Ellijay; brother, Earl Rutledge of Canton; sisters, Barbara Ray and Ann Usry, both of Jasper. Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, June 21 at 1 p.m. from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James McGaha officiating. Interment was in Chalcedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Geneva Lomax
Mrs. Geneva Mary Lomax, age 62 of Dalton, departed this life Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2003 at her home.
Mrs. Lomax was born May 18, 1941 in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Leonard and Illine (Hightower) Young. She was also preceded in death by a son, Wayne Lumpkin; daughter, Angela Lois Lumpkin; step-daughter, Angela Lomax; great-granddaughter, Haven Flaherty; and son-in-law, Billy Gilbert.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Lomax of Resaca; sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Anita Lumpkin of Dalton and Terry and Angie Lumpkin of Jasper; daughters and son-in-law, Kathy and William Poteet and Brooke Flaherty, all of Dalton; step-children, David and Cynthia Lomax and Mitchell Shepard, all of Calhoun, and Mary Chastain of Jasper; brothers, Fred, B.J. and Danny Young; sisters, Gladys Shipman, Blancey and Ruby Young, all of Dalton; special grandson, Tim Flaherty of Dalton. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, June 22 at 2 p.m. from Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Guffey officiating. Interment was in the Gordon Memorial Gardens in Calhoun.

Frank Ballew
Mr. Frank Ballew, age 72, passed away at Mountain Health Care on Wednesday, June 17, 2003.
Survivors include brothers, Clyde Ballew of Jasper, Billy Ballew of Talking Rock and Homer Ballew of Kentucky; sisters, Helen Bozeman of Summerville, Louise Little of Jasper and Mary Bell McFalls of Gainesville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 20 from Town Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church Cemetery, the Rev. Carl Owenby officiating. The following served as pallbearers: Neil and Castell Edmonds, Mark Little, Jeff and Mitchell Powell and Allen Carver. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clyde Holcomb
Mr. Clyde (Bob) Holcomb, age 74 of McDonough and formerly of West Cobb County, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, June 18, 2003 at his residence.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Rogers, McDonough; brother, Mark Holcomb, Jasper; grandchildren, David Rogers of McDonough and Michelle Rogers, Marietta; great-grandsons, Peyton and Nolan Rogers.
The funeral service was held Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Brock officiating. Interment followed in Talking Rock Baptist Church Cemetery with Mickey Smith, David Rogers, Jim Quinton, Steve Ray and Bill Edwards officiating.

Leroy Anheuser
Mr. Leroy Anheuser, age 81 of Alpharetta, formerly of Big Canoe, passed away June 17, 2003 at the North Fulton Regional Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Anheuser who passed away Feb. 5, 2000. They met in Minneapolis, Mn. while he was a Cadet in the Marine Crops during WW II and the Korean War. Lee became a fighter pilot and he and Margaret married in 1943. He was founder and owner of Sales Guide, Inc. in Milwaukee. After living in Wisconsin for a number of years, Lee and Margaret moved to Atlanta in 1985 and started Anheuser Marketing with his two sons and daughter. The Anheuser’s moved to Big Canoe in 1988 and both became members of Big Canoe Chapel.
Survivors include his four children, Rick and wife Lola, Patricia and husband Jim, Laurie, John and wife Dede.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Big Canoe Cemetery with Phil Ellington officiating. The family ask in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Canoe Chapel. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Vicky McCord
Ms. Vicky McCord, age 43 of Jasper, formerly of Roswell, passed away June 22, 2003.
Survivors include her daughter, Victoria “Tory” McCord of Jasper; sons, James and Andrew “Andy” Dame and Robert “Bucky” McCord, all of Jasper; parents, James and Irma Green of Jasper; sisters, Sherry Green of Jasper, Teresa Jackson of Suwanee, Lisa Goings of Canton and Kim Cook of Cumming. Four nieces, seven nephews, several aunts and uncles, and Godmother, Carol McGinnis Yeje also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, June 26 at 2 p.m. from the Atlanta Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Carl Jameson and Herschel Randall officiating. Interment was in Green Lawn Cemetery.

Sallie Mae Higgins
Mrs. Sallie Mae Higgins, age 92 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2003 at Mountainside Health Care.
Survivors include son-in-law, Ralph Hicks, Jasper; sister, Fern Rush, Rome; grandsons, Michael Hicks of Jasper and Randy Hicks of Cumming. Seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Higgins was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Patsy Hicks.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, June 24 at 2 p.m. from the Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Joey DuBoise, Harold Johnson and Edwin Weaver officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ralph, Michael, Randy, Jesse, Jacob and Joey Hicks. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

June Johnson
Mrs. June Johnson, age 60 of the Twin Tank Community, passed away Monday, June 23, 2003 at her residence.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Hazel Johnson, Hinton Community; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Johnny Chumley, Hinton Community; brother, Loyd McDaniel, Fairmount. Four grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26 from Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Timms officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Allene Quinton
Ms. Allene Quinton, age 74 of Talking Rock, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper.
Ms. Quinton is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Dorthy Quinton of Talking Rock; sisters-in-law, Clara Quinton and Dorothy Henderson of Talking Rock. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, July 7 at 2 p.m. from the Talking Rock Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery with the Rev. Eugene Childers officiating. Roper Funeral Home of Jasper was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Payne
Mrs. Ruby Payne, age 72 of Talking Rock, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Payne, Talking Rock; sons, Jerry Lee, Randall and R.L. Payne, all of Talking Rock. Twelve grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Southerland.
A graveside service was held July 6 at 2 p.m. from Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery outside of Ducktown, Tn. with the Rev. Richard Mashburn officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Jackie Cantrell, Jerry Payne, Chris and Kenny Weaver, Horace Wofford and Larry Manning. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Minnie Pendley
Mrs. Minnie H. Pendley, age 97 of Marble Hill, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Mildred Pendley, Marble Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Morris Fouts and Wanda and Darwin Dobson, all of Marble Hill. Eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Burt officiating. Interment was in Yellow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Fred and Anthony Dobson, Randall Fouts, Gary and Carlton Pendley and Sandy Tottherton.
