Mr. Charles Fulton Argo, age 76 of Big Canoe, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2003 at his residence.
Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Elenor Argo of Big Canoe.
A memorial service was held Monday, June 30 at 2 p.m. from the Big Canoe Chapel with Pastor Al Harris officiating.In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make donations to the American Cancer Society. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Grady Tomblin
Mr. Grady Tomblin, age 87 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2003 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Tomblin, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and JoAnne Tomblin, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Cecil Sweat, Jasper; sisters, Ora Lee Padgett and Cora Lee Pearson, both of Jasper; brother-in-law, Robert Fowler; sister-in-law, Yvonne Disharoon, Jasper; four grandchildren, Stacy and Adam Gentry, Ron and Jeffery Tomblin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, June 29 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Roy Blackwell, Harold Bottoms and Phillip Burt officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with the Local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of graveside services. Serving as pallbearers were: Charles, Jerry and Jim Padgett, Jim Gibson, Adam Willis and Jack Buchanan.
Kathryn Bernhardt
Mrs. Kathryn Bernhardt, age 63 of Jasper, passed away Friday, June 27, 2003 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Val Bernhardt, Jasper; son and fiancee, Craig Costanzo and Joanne Weber, Stuart, Fl.; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Brian Hager and Karen and Rodney Hicks, all of Davie, Fl.; step-daughters, Trina Farrentino, Cumming, and Cassie Worden, DeLand, Fl.; brothers, George Supko, Alpharetta, and Richard Supko, Clifton, N.J.; three grandchildren, Ryan, Michael and Jason; one great-grandchild, Cassie. Four step-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church. The family requests in lieu of flowers, make donations to Georgia Mountains Hospice in memory of Kathryn Bernhardt. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Clyde Holcomb
Mr. Clyde E. “Bob” Holcomb, age 74 of McDonough, formerly of West Cobb County, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at his residence.
Survivors include his daughter, Janet Rogers, McDonough; brother, Max Holcomb, Jasper; grandchildren, David Rogers, McDonough, and Michelle Rogers, Marietta; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Nolan Rogers.
The funeral service was held Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Brock officiating. Interment was in the Talking Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mickey Smith, David Rodgers, Jim Quinton, Steve Ray and Bill Edwards.
James Dotson
Mr. James Dotson, age 63 of Jasper, passed away Friday, June 27,2003 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dotson, Jasper; sons, David and Robert Dotson, both of Acworth, Thomas Dotson, Paulding County, and James Dotson Jr., North Dakota; daughters, Rhonda Monroe, Jasper, Kathy Ford and Joy Dotson, both of Acworth, and Angela Slaughter, Calhoun; brothers, Arthur Dotson, Clayton County, and Buddy Dotson, Sweetwater, Tn. Twenty-four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.
The funeral service was held Sunday, June 29 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Minister Danny Duckett officiating.
Cora Rucker
Mrs. Cora Rucker, age 96 of Nelson, passed away Monday, June 30, 2003 at the Brian Center in Canton.
Survivors include her son, Willie E. Rucker, Gary, In.; daughters-in-law, Iowa Rucker, Chicago, Il., Jeanett, Mary and Georgia Rucker, all of Gary. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren also survive.
A wake was held Sunday night, July 6 from 7-8 p.m. The funeral service was held Monday, July 7 at 2 p.m. from Pilgrim Baptist Church in Nelson with Rev. Wooford Bailey officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Fred Anderson, Bill Green, Gary Benson, Justice Robert Rucker Jr., Ricky Benson and Nicholas Rucker. Honorary pallbearers were: Mark Bridges, Virgil Retic Sr. and Samuel Rucker. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Betty Helton
Mrs. Betty G. Helton, age 71 of Jasper, formerly of Harlan, Ky., passed away Friday, June 27, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center. The body was then taken to Cagle Funeral Home in preparation for transport to Rich Funeral Home and Chapel in Harlan.
Survivors include her grandson, Kevin Curtis, Jasper; brothers, Ed and Raymond Helton, both of Kentucky; sister, Georgia Hazbury, Kentucky. Three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was announced later by Rich Funeral Home in Harlen with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
James Merrell
James B. Merrell, age 60 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Merrell, Jasper; son, James Willie Merrell, Jasper; brothers, Bert Merrell, Marble Hill, and Elbert Merrell, Ellijay; sisters, Ruth Waters, Ellijay, Bertie Ensley and Virginia Walker, both of Jasper, Thelma Cable and Della Carroll, both of Royston; four grandchildren, Angie Monilie, Elaine, Shelly and Kimberely Merrell; and two step-great-grandchildren, Parker and Taylor.
The funeral service was held Thursday, July 3 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Sanford Fountain, Bobby Singleton, Kenneth Carter and E.L. Merrell officiating. Interment was in Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Randall Buchanan, Toby Carver, Clyde and Shawn Ensley, Johnny Merrell Jr. and Damon Hughes.
Lois Cantrell
Lois Elizabeth Cantrell, age 82 of Canton, passed away July 2, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church and a retired from Canton Textile Mills.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Carol Cantrell, Canton; daughter, Vickie Patterson, Jasper; brother, Roach Taylor, Marietta. Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.
The funeral service was held Friday, July 4 at 11 a.m. from Riverdale Baptist Church. Interment was in Macedonia Memorial Park with the Revs. Joey DuBois and Edwin Weaver officiating. Huey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Donald Scott
Mr. Donald Scott, age 62 of Ball Ground, passed away Friday, June 27, 2003 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Roper Scott, Ball Ground; son, Timothy Scott, Ball Ground; daughter, Stephanie Donley, Jasper; sister, Charlotte Chadwick, Waleska. Four grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday at 3 p.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church in Cherokee County with the Revs. Marvin Chatham, Robert Allen, Joey DuBois, Buddy Roper and Kent Samples officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mildred Puckett
Mrs. Mildred A. Puckett, age 78 of Jasper, passed away at her residence.
Survivors include her grandson, Scott Fowler, Jasper; great-granddaughter, Emily Fowler, Jasper; daughter-in-law, Sara Fowler; sister, Sara A. Brock, Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Lois Anderson, Jasper; sister-in-law, Ethel Anderson, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2003 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with interment in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, the Rev. Glenn Sims officiating. Pallbearers were: Sonny Underwood, Tommy Chumley, Emory Watson, Paul Qualls, Tommy Lindsey and Tommy Qualls. Honorary pallbearer was Michael Chumley.
John Patterson
Mr. John Samuel Patterson, age 76 of Jasper, passed away July 3, 2004 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Patterson of Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Barbara Patterson of Chickamauga and Shawn and Vanessa Patterson of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Tim Pearson of Jasper. Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 5 from Free Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Joey DuBois, Autry Dean and Earl Wilkie officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Junior Ingram, Andy, Kenny and Larry Holden, Dean Price and Mike Norton. Honorary pallbearers were: Earl Phoenix, Buster Ingram, Steve Hitt, David Carver and Eddie Davis. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ella Townsend
Mrs. Ella M. Townsend, age 71 of Fairmount, departed this life Saturday, July 10, 2004 at her home.
Mrs. Townsend was born May 6, 1933 in Murray County, Ga., the daughter of the late Willard “Will” and Omie Mulkey. She was a member of the Salacoa Baptist Church in Cherokee County, having joined the church August 11, 1954.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Walter “Bud” Townsend of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Marsha Townsend and Kenneth and Karen Townsend; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Roger Evans and Gail and Jeff Lacey, all of Fairmount; grandchildren, Clay and Crystal Townsend, Carrissa and Leslie Townsend, T.L. and Rhonda and Jody and Sheena Townsend, John Townsend, Rachel and Josh Parker and Logan Lacey; great-grandchildren, Payton, Taylor, Madison and Riley Townsend; brother, Eugene “Cotton” Mulkey of Dallas, Ga.; special friend, Jimmy Blalock of Calhoun.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 13 at 2 p.m. from the Salacoa Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Hibberts officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Steve Townsend, Randy Mulkey, Bruce Mealer, Carey Evans, Danny Higgins and Chuck Thomas. Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Paul Cantrell
Mr. Paul Cantrell, age 76 of Jasper, passed away Friday, July 2, 2004 at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell as the result of an auto accident.
Survivors include his sons, Dean and David Cantrell, both of Marble Hill, and Terry Cantrell of Jasper; sisters, Mayrene Fields, Marilyn Quinton and Helen Bannister, all of Jasper, and Roslyn Poole, Villa Rica. Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Cantrell was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Cantrell; son, Jerry Cantrell; and grandson, Allen Cantrell.
The funeral service was held Monday, July 5 at 2 p.m. from Free Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Pearson, Earl Wilkie and Autry Dean officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Andy Bannister, Jack Owens, Jeff and Josh Cantrell, Jim Hite and Jeff Quinton. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to St Judes Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tn. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Alfred Smith
Mr. Alfred C. Smith, age 76 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Mountainside Medical Center in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Smith, Jasper; sons, David Smith, Toronto, Canada, and Stuart Smith, Vancouver, British Columbia; daughter, Carol-Lnne Schutz, Chicago, Il.; sister, Jean Greek, Jacksonville, Fl.

Jesse Lynch
Mr. Jesse (Jimmy) Lynch, age 65 of Canton, passed away Monday, July 5, 2004 at his residence in Canton. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Mike Parker, Jasper, Kristie Lynch, Canton, and Valerie and Steve Fuller, Douglasville, Ga.; sisters, Bertricia Goodrum, Greenville, Ky., Lena Mae Quarles and Elizabeth Hawkins, both if Kevil, Ky., and Alice Marie Moss, LaCenter, Ky. Five grandchildren also survive. Mr. Lynch was preceded in death by his father, James Stanley Lynch; mother, Dorothy Lynch Gibson; and step-father, James Gibson.
The funeral service was held Thursday, July 8 at 11 a.m. from Cornerstone Church with the Rev. Jim Willis and Associate Pastor Mike Parker officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
