Georgia, U.S., Marriage Records From Select Counties, 1828-1978

Paul Kent
Mr. Paul J. Kent, age 87 of Marble Hill, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Northside Cherokee Hospital in Canton.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, David Kent, Marble Hill, and Charles and Mary Kent, Yellow Creek; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Ronnie Foster, Gainesville, and Paulette and Perry Parker, Marble Hill; sister, Kate Kent Lamothe, Springfield, Ma. Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Kent was preceded in death by his wife, Mable W. Kent; and son, Paul Glenneth Kent.
The funeral service was held Friday, July 9 at 2 p.m. from Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Dozier Henderson, Huey Holloway and William Blackwell officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jimmy Brooks, Larry Roper, Mack Kent, Michael Foster, Robert Brown and Jerry Cantrell. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Frank Wheeler
Mr. Frank Wheeler was born Dec. 29, 1923 and passed away June 29, 2004. He was a native of Pickens County.
Mr. Wheeler was the fifth of six children born to Edgar and Alma Wheeler. He graduated from Pickens High School. During his life he had many professions. He was a WW II veteran, serving on the Sea Bee’s in the Pacific. His business ventures included M&M Auto Parts, Lawson Chevrolet, real estate and a driver for Yellow Freight. Mr. Wheeler also operated heavy equipment helping to excavate for Grandview Lake and one year in North America on a buildingproject.
His interests were many. For a time he was involved in dirt track racing. The interest that captured most of his attention was golf. After his retirement, he considered golf to be his “work.”

Frank is survived by his wife, Emily Callahan Wheeler; sons, George F., Jr. and Bryan Bazzell, both of Jasper; daughters, Beverly Gayton, Tate, and Rebecca Procter, Jasper; sister, Betty Arrendale, Marion, In.; and brother, Wallace Wheeler, Jasper. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews, also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, July 2 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Pallbearers were: J.W. Dobson, Jack Dunn, Nathan Gayton, Chuck and Tony Payne, John Shope and Danny Westbrooks. Honorary pallbearers were: David Allen, Lee Dunn, Boward Garrison, Tommy Holly and Jack Richards. The Rev. Von Hinton conducted the service and Sara Sperin provided the music. Interment was at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Susan Dobson
Mrs. Susan Gale Dobson, age 53 of Marble Hill, passed away July 12, 2004 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony Dobson of Marble Hill, sons, Billy Ray Hale, Jr. of Acworth and Shane Dobson of Waleska; mother, Susie Reeves of Atlanta; sisters, Dorothy Isenberg of Atlanta, Lula Mae Ridings and Debbie Howell, both of Texas; grandchildren, MacKenzie Hale, Adam, Erin and Ashlyn Dobson.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Michael Quarles and Varon Crosby officiating. Interment will follow in the Haw Creek Cemetery in Cumming, Ga.

E.C. Padgett
Mr. E.C. (Padge) Padgett, age 80 of Jasper (Bent Tree), passed Monday, June 23, 2003 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton.
Mr. Padgett served in the US Navy, was retired from Lockheed, Marietta, and sold real estate with several real estate offices in the area. He was a member of the American Legion Post 29, Marietta, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie Cheek Padgett, Jasper; sons, Charles Padgett, Mountain Top, Pa., and William Padgett, Aden, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Sandra Padgett, daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and John Sherman, Highpoint, N.C.; brothers, Earl and Jimmy Padgett, both of Canton, and William Padgett, Acworth; sisters-in-law, Sybil, Willa Mae and Lou Padgett; step-children, Mitchell and Cynthia Bozeman, Robert and Natalie Cheek and Andrew and Sheri Clarke; grandchildren, Heather, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Michael Padgett, Leland Padgett and Sandy and Allen Sherman; great-grandson, Skyler Sherman; step-grandchildren, Jason, Dillon, Christopher, Lakia, Jeremy, Selena, Emily and Nathan; and a great-step-grandson, Jeremiah Harris.
The funeral service was held Thursday, June 26 at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church with Father Dennis officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. A Rosary service was held Wednesday evening at 8 at Cagle Funeral Home.

Rev. Loyd Crane
The Rev. Loyd Crane, age 69 of Canton, passed away at his residence on July 10, 2003. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and was employed as a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Crane, Canton; son, Danny Crane, Talking Rock; daughters, Rita Burch, North Carolina, Debbie May, Jasper, and Kay Stokes, Waleska; sister, Maudie Reed, Ellijay. Eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, July 12 at 11 a.m. from Fairview Baptist Church with the Revs. Leon Goodwin, Talmadge Dean, Glen Heard and Larry White officiating. Interment followed inthe church cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Fowler
Henry F. Fowler of Corner, Al. passed away Friday, June 27, 2003. A member of Empire Assembly of God, he was also retired from US Steel.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lois E. Fowler; three sons, Melvin F. (Wanda) and Harold Steven (Sherry) Fowler, all of Corner, and Christopher L. Fowler of Murfreesboro, Tn.; four daughters, Janice (Donald) Hollis of Jemison, Al., Joyce (Morrel) Moorer of Oneonta, Al, Deborah (Danny) Smith and Madonna (Richard) Buffkin, all of Pelham, Al.; two sisters, Virginia Lautrell Holley of Shannon, Al. and Geraldine Hollis of Vance, Al. Fourteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 1 at 11 a.m. from Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with Bro. Don Westbrook and Rev. Lonnie Plunkett officiating. Burial was in Forest Grove Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, Al.

Allen Howard
Mr. Allen “Big Al” Bruce Howard, age 38 of Dawsonville, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003 at his residence.
Survivors include his parents, Billy and Sue Howard, Dawsonville; grandmother, Lorene Perry, Dawsonville; sisters, Sharyne Welch and Stacey Clayton, both of Jasper; and one uncle, L.J. Perry, Dawsonville.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Ben Howard and Doug Riggins officiating. Interment was in Lake Forest Cemetery. Pallbearers were: David, Donald and Jason Kirby, Lon Perry, Les Brinson and Clifford Howard. The family did accept flowers or ask that donations be made to the Pickens County Wellness Center.

Floyd Wigington
Mr. Floyd Wigington, age 87 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Mountain Health Care Center.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Lisa Wigington, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Bob Williams, Tate. Three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Roy Blackwell and Huey Holloway officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Charles and Hugh Wigington, Billy Bagwell, Hallman and Buster Voyles and Jack Arrendale Jr. The family did accept flowers or donations can be made to Corinth Baptist Church, Marble Hill Baptist Church or Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

David Lewis
Mr. David W. Lewis, age 38 of Jasper, passed away July 17, 2003. He was a truck driver and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Cloer Lewis, Jasper; parents, Winford and Marie Lewis, Canton; sisters, Donna Lynn Pendley, Canton, and Rebecca Jane Pendley, Tate; grandfather, George Lewis, Canton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, July 19 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Johnson, Homer McClure and Bobby Segers officiating. Interment followed in Harmony Cemetery.

Ellijah Drake Brown
Ellijah Drake Brown, age 5 weeks, passed away at his residence.
Drake is survived by his parents, Chris and Diane Brown; sister, Jade Stokes; grandparents, Mary Jane and Jerry Cantrell, Cindy Brown and Tommy and Meschell Stokes; great-grandparents, J.W. and Dorthy Health, Flowy and Louise Stokes, Lonera Blackwell and Lank Cantrell.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 10 from Yellow Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church Cemetery, the Revs. Jeff Wilkie and Barry Payne officiating. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Drucilla Roper
Mrs. Drucilla Roland Roper, age 95, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Canton Nursing Center in Canton.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Buddy and Mary Roper and Jimmy and Stephanie Roper; daughters and son-in-law, Mrs. Inez and Grady Hester and Mrs. Jane Scott. Thirteen grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Clyde Roper.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 from Philadelphia Baptist Church in Cherokee County with interment following at Cherokee Memorial Park. The Revs. Marvin Chatham, Joey Dubois, Donald Haley and Wallace Sutton officiated. Roper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Honea
Alice Moss Honea, age 96 of Smyrna, died July 1, 2003. She was a Pickens County native and moved to Atlanta in 1926. Her father served as Pickens County Sheriff1912 - 1914.
Mrs. Honea was the oldest graduate of Tate High School (1925) to attend the 2001 reunion. She was salutatorian of the Tate High Class of 1925. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Honea Moore; brothers, Emmett, John Lewis, Roy and Joe Moss; sisters, Daisy and Susie Ann Moss.
She is survived by grandchildren, James Daniel Moore Jr., Smyrna, Julia Kathleen Moore, Seattle, Wa., Deborah Lynn Moore Marshall, Smithfield, Va.; brother, Carter William Moss Jr., Smyrna; and sister, Bertie Moss Donaldson, Atlanta. Two great-grandchildren, four nieces and four nephews also survive.
The funeral was July 5 at H.M. Patterson & Son in Atlanta and burial was in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.

B.M. Collett
Mr. B.M. “Mac” Collett, age 70 of Canton, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at his residence.
Mr. Collett was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church and the American Legion. Mr. Collett was self-employed in the heating and air conditioning business.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Collett of Canton; sons and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Debbie and Derrell Collett, all of Cumming; daughter, Sandy Cantrell, Jasper; stepson, Wendell Sheffield of Waleska; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Mike Tuggle, Dahlonega, Vonda and Daryl King, Waleska, and Stacey and Ralph Patterson, Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Nell and Vernon Farmer, Cumming. Fifteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Randy Cloer and Buck Rampley officiating. Interment followed in the Macedonia Memorial Park.

Rebecca Powell
Rebecca “Becky” Powell, age 41 of Ellijay, passed away Friday, July 18, 2003. A native of Fulton County, Ms. Powell worked as a secretary for the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ellijay and was a member of the Christian Fellowship Worship Center of Conyers.
Survivors include her father, William “Billy” Powell Sr. of High Falls; mother, Beatrice Powell of Conyers; daughter, Tiffany Powell of Conyers; son, William Powell of Lithonia; brothers, David Hayes of Covington and Billy Ray Powell of Stockbridge; grandparent, Auburn Smith of Conyers; granddaughter, Paris Powell of Conyers. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Loyd Smith.
The funeral service was held Monday, July 21 at 11 a.m. from Christian Fellowship Worship Center with Pastors Sam Cates and David Herring officiating. Interment followed at Welcome Avenue Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery in Crawford, Ga. Contributions may be made to Women of Hope Ministries, 1790 Ebenezer Road, Conyers, Ga. 30094 in memory of Becky Powell. Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, Rockdale Chapel.

John F. Bauer
Commander John Frederick Bauer died peacefully in his sleep at his home on July 28, 2003 at the age of 88 in Jasper. He suffered no pain.
He is survived by his wife, Peggie Bauer; daughters, Barbara Jo Clark, Genoa, Il., and Peggie Ann Aurand, Jasper.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home. The family asks in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Pickens County Animal Rescue or any humane society.

Adam Krebs
Adam Baxter Krebs, age 16 of Cumming, passed away Friday, July 25, 2003 in Mississippi following injuries received in an automobileaccident. Adam was a rising junior at South Forsyth High School where he was a member for both the South Forsyth High School football and soccer teams. He was a gifted student and an accomplished artist. He was a member of North Lanier Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Jim and Kim Krebs, Cumming; mother, Sherry Green, Jasper; sisters and brother, Kimberly Jean Krebs, Ashley Cunningham and Alex Krebs, all of Cumming; paternal grandparents, Elba Montalvo, Roswell, and Jose Krebs, Puerto Rico; maternal grandparents, Irma and James Green, Jasper. A large number of other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, July 30 at 11 a.m. from North Lanier Baptist Church. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Ingram Funeral Home of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.

Cheryl Nolan
Ms. Cheryl A. Nolan, age 59 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 surrounded by loving family. She had cancer. Ms. Nolan had previously worked for Ingles and Mrs. Winner’s locally.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael Scott and Heather Nolan of Rome, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Robert Fischer of 1000 Oaks, Ca.; brothers and sister-in-law, Harry Milhaven and George and Barbara Milhaven of Port Washington, N.Y.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and interment was in Port Washington, N.Y. The family requests any donations to her memory be made to Hope House of Ellijay, Good Samaritan Wellness Center or Pickens County Animal Rescue.
