Howard Kehrwieder
Mr. Howard Kehrwieder, age 75 of Ball Ground, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Grandview Health Care Center.
Survivors include his wife, June Kehrwieder, Ball Ground; daughters, Brenda Nichols, Texas, and Gayle Richardson, Woodstock; brothers, Edward and Warren Kehrwieder, both of New Jersey. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Morris Fouts
Mr. Morris Rip Fouts, age 77 of Marble Hill, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2003 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Fouts, Marble Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Wanda Fouts of Marble Hill; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Robbie Dillard and Rhonda and Randy Lindsey, all of Marble Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Sue Fouts; sister and brother-in-law, Erma and Hubert Ray, Florida; and five grandchildren, Michael Starr, Nathan Fouts, Benjamin and Sara Lindsey and Calab Fouts.
The funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Burt officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Marble Hill Lodge #207 in charge of the Masonic graveside service. Pallbearers were: Michael Starr, Jimmy Weaver, Wayne Anderson, Mark Duncan, Kenny Heath and Larry Ray. The family did request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Marble Hill Baptist Church.
Rev. Kenneth Brown
The Rev. Kenneth Eugene Brown was born on Dec. 19, 1921 to Guy A. and Mildred Westlake Brown and entered into the presence of the Lord on August 30, 2003.
Ken Brown attended high school in Denair, Ca. where he graduated in 1939. He continued his education at Pacific Bible College in Southern California, graduating in 1943 as an ordained minister. He began ministering as acting chaplain at Fort Ord Military Base in Monterey, Ca. during World War II, then Castle Airbase in Atwater, Ca. during the Korean War. His lifes work of pastoring and evangelical work led him to many cities, towns and villages throughout the western US including Alaska. He also pioneered the formation of several new churches in California and Georgia. Rev. Brown and his wife Carolyn ministered in several local churches in Denair from 1985 through 1997. He continued his ministerial work in Cherry Log, Ga. for the rest of his life. Rev. Brown was a minister for 62 year.
Along with his ministerial work, Rev. Brown was a commercial electrician and professional photographer. His hobbies included piloting small aircraft, hunting and he had a passion for fly fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carolyn Y. Brown; sons, David K. Brown, Carmel Valley, Ca., Rev. Jerold E. Brown, Ellijay, Glenn A. Brown, San Jose, Ca., Tim and Tracy Stancil, both of Jasper, and Thomas Stancil, Fountain, Fl.; daughters, Judi L. Stevens, Woodinville, Wa., Tammy K. Pickett and Terri Y. Bird, both of Jasper; one brother, Harloe Brown, Redding, Ca.; two sisters, Joy Sondeno, Ramona, Ca., and Helen Miller, Longmont, Co. Twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Pastor James Nichols and Pastor Thomas Merritt officiating. The interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The following served as pallbearers: Doug Chastain, Andy Stricklin, Micky Moskovitz, Bob Smith, David Muller and Martin Robinson.
Julian Fowler
Mr. Julian Carl J.C. Fowler, age 61 of Talking Rock, passed away suddenly Sept. 5, 2003 at North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Fowler, Talking Rock, son, Anthony Fowler, Talking Rock; daughter, Sheila Serrano, Rock Hill, S.C.; brothers, Glenn Fowler, Canton, and Doug Fowler, Plainesville; sisters, Bobbie Anderson, Canton, and Doris Watkins, Ball Ground. Seven grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Reece and Robert Allen officiating. Interment followed in the Hinton Community Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mike King, Joseph and Jeffrey Winters, William Anderson, Robert Watkins and Lewis Richards.
Brenda Fountaine
Ms. Brenda Fountaine, age 54 of Atlanta, passed away at her residence Monday, Sept. 1, 2003.
Survivors include her mother, Anna McDonald, Toronto, Canada; brothers, Douglas and Russell McDonald, both of Toronto.
The family did receive friends on Sept. 6 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta and on Sunday, Sept. 7 at the funeral home. A graveside service and interment was held Sunday, Sept. 7 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mildred Chester
Mrs. Mildred Mosley Chester, age 80 of Jonesboro, passed away Sunday morning at Portsbridge Hospice.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Rendley Norris, Fayette County; granddaughter, Christy and Brian Anderson, East Cobb; grandson, Brian Norris, Fayette County; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Benjamin Anderson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Brent and Mildred Mosley, Ellijay, Jack and Jonie Sue Mosley, Macon, Jerry Mosley, Suches; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Bill Coleman, Whitestone; sister-in-law, Janis Mosley, Whitestone. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday from Whitestone Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Roper Funeral Home.
Frank Atkins
Mr. Frank Atkins, age 67 of Chamblee, formerly of Cherokee County, passed away Sept. 11, 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise Atkins, Chamblee; sons, Rocky Atkins, London, England, and John Atkins, Powder Springs; daughter, Mrs. Kimberly Conner, Sugar Hill; brother, Arthur Atkins, Jasper; sisters, Mrs. Estelle Fountain and Mrs. Fern Burgess, both of Jasper. Four grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 from Sosebee Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating.
Grady Padgett
Mr. Grady W. Padgett, age 86 of Cartersville, passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Padgett was born in Pickens County on April 18, 1917, son of the late Henry Grady and Lela Reeves Padgett. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and of Woodmen of the World Lodge #1152. He was a barber for more than 50 years, retiring from Professional Barber Shop. Mr. Padgett enjoyed wood-working as a hobby. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. as a spool winder prior to his tour in the US Army during World War II. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, William H. Padgett; and sister, Margaret Mosely.
Survivors include his wife, June Dean Padgett, who he married August 8, 1944; sons and daughters-in-law, Ernie and Teresa Warren Padgett and Terrill and Brenda Martin Padgett, all of Cartersville; grandchildren, Jason and Carie Padgett, Jeremy and Angela Padgett; one sister, Mildred Paul of Morgan, Ga.; and sister-in-law, Marie Padgett of Dalton.
The funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. from Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Hubert Woodward, Earl Abernathy and Francis Summey officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were: Jason, Jeremy and Griffin Padgett, Stanley and Steve Warren, Buddy Black and Bobby Wilson. Ernest Kelley
Mr. Ernest C. (Shine) Kelley, age 91 of the Ludville Community, passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at Wildwood Health Care.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Kelley, Ludville; son and daughter-in-law, E.C. and Gena Kelley, Ludville; granddaughter, Brooke Kelley, Ludville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 from Town Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. D.J. Free, Randy Weaver and Clay Fountain officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Pickens Star Lodge #220 in charge of Masonic graveside services. Pallbearers were: Clyde, Ronnie, Tommy, Bobby, Ricky, Johnny and Ben Herndon. Terrie Barton
Miss Terrie Barton, age 31 of Marble Hill, passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003 at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston, Tx.
She is survived by her mother and father, Linda and Henry (Hank) McDaniels, Marble Hill; grandmother, Lucille Barton, Aberdeen, N.C.; Godparents, Bill and Rita Head, Ball Ground; brothers, Brett and Kevin McDaniels, both of Marble Hill; sisters, Tonya Cummings, Aberdeen, and Sharitta Vasquez, Marietta. Nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. LeRoy Kelley officiating. The family will accept potted plants.
Jewell Moss
Mrs. Jewell Lovina Moss, age 81 of Fairmount, passed away Sept. 1, 2004
at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include her sons, Alden Patterson of Fairmount and Alvin Moss
of Jerusalem; daughter, Audrey Ellis of Fairmount; step-daughter, Retha
Silvers of Jerusalem. Fourteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren
and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 from Jerusalem
Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Cantrell, Hollis Crook and Buddy Roper
officiating Interment in the church cemetery. Roper Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Leonard "Tom" Childers
Mr. Leonard 'Tom' Childers, age 58 of the Ryo Community, passed away
Sunday, August 29, 2004 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Childers, Ryo Community; two sons and
daughters-in-law: Shaun and Julie Childers, Calhoun, and Tony and Melissa
Childers, Jasper; eight brothers: Max and Childers, both of Jasper, Ed
Childers, Sylvester, Ga., Junior and Herman Childers, both of Calhoun,
Melvin Childers, Talking Rock, Bobby and James Childers, both of Fairmount;
sisters, Linda Childers and Bonnie Pruitt, both of Jasper; five
grandchildren, Mitchell Childers, Megan Childers, Matthew Cochran, Madison
Cochran and Jessica Cochran.
The funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Ryo Baptist
Church with the Revs. Herman Mulkey and Wilburn Childers officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. The following served as
pallbearers: Mark Childers, Chad Childers, Corey Childers, Chris Childers,
Randy Childers and Brian Berry. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Dorothy Balentine
Dorothy Fretwell Balentine, age 93, expired Thursday, August 26, 2004 at
Wildwood Health Care Center in Talking Rock, Ga.
She is survived by her only child, Ann D. Hamans of Carrollton, Ga.; a
niece, Mrs. Frances Sebasteniellia, her husband Joseph and children;
step-children of Sun City, Az.; a nephew, Johnny Fretwell, his wife and
children of Snellville, Ga.
In accordance with her wishes, the body was cremated. Due to existing
extenuating circumstances, no memorial service can be held. Daily visits and
prayers of Mrs. Pat Laughlin and other witnesses is much appreciated. Cagle
Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Bennie Wilson
Mr. Bennie Wilson, age 67 of Talking Rock, passed away Monday, August
30, 2004 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Wilson, Talking Rock; sons, David
Wilson of Cartersville and Christopher Wilson of Wisconsin; sister, Mary
Alice Chancey of Luthersville, Ga. Two grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 from the Chapel
of Cagle Funeral Home with Father Frank officiating. The family did accept
potted plants or donations to the American Cancer Society.
Pat Glass
Ms. Pat Glass, age 60 of Jasper, passed away suddenly Tuesday, August
31, 2004 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Michael Tippens,
Jasper; brothers and sister-in-law, Frank and Shirley Glass of Dawsonville
and Bobby Glass of Ball Ground; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Torri
Tippens of Jasper.
The funeral service was held Friday at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle
Funeral Home with the Revs. Gene Hyde and Jimmy Gayton officiating.
Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Johnny and Alex
Glass, Eric Cholkadai, David Waters, Ron and Charlie Tomblin, Tommy Fowler
and Tommy Wehunt. Honorary pallbearers were: David, Tony, Chris and Phillip
Tippens.
Faye Queen
Mrs. Faye Queen, age 76 of Ellijay, passed away Monday, August 23, 2004
at WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Ga.
Survivors are her husband: Joe Queen, Ellijay; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Jack and Eileen Queen, Blue Ridge, and Larry and Barbara
Queen, Portland, Or.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Dan McGill,
McDonough, and Tammy and Sam Myers, Ellijay; one brother and sister-in-law,
Gene and Betty Henderson, Jasper; sisters-in-law, Annie Henderson and Linda
Mae Henderson, both of Jasper, Sue Henderson, Talking Rock; four
grandchildren, Eric Queen, Shane McGill, Gabriel Myers, Cole Myers; one
great- grandchild, Emily McGill, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by one son Randy Queen.
The funeral service was held Thursday, August 26 at 11 a.m. from the
Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Gay, Harold Lowery and
Bill McGill officiating. Interment was in the Chastain-Pack Memorial Park in
Blue Ridge. Serving as pallbearers were: Lannie, Michael, Tim and
Phillip Henderson and Troy Creech. Honorary pallbearer was Gabriel Myers.
Sue Jones
Mrs. Sue Howze Jones, age 68 of South Carolina, formerly of Pickens
County, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2004 at Okland Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Donald C. Jones of South Carolina; sons,
Michael Jones of Missouri and Dan C. and David Jones of Oklahoma; daughter,
Detra Jones Taylor of Oklahoma. Seventeen grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren also survive.
The service was held at Reedy Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ray
Allen officiating.
Sallie Lanning
Mrs. Sallie Lanning, age 78 of Talking Rock Road, Jasper, passed
away Oct. 2, 2004.
Mrs. Lanning was born on Nov. 1, 1925 in Pickens County, the
daughter of the late Vern and Ova Fields McPherson. She was a member of the Sharp
Top Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue Reece, Jasper; sons, Johnny and
Jimmy Lanning, both of Jasper; brother, Eugene McPherson, Hinton. Five
grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. from the
Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Reece officiating. Music
was by the Ladies Choir of Mt. View Baptist Church. Interment was in the
Cross Roads Baptist Church in Pickens County. Pallbearers were: James Wingo,
Charles Wiggington, Ricky, Keith and Mike Reece and Randy Banks.
Clarence Nix, Jr.
Clarence Joe Nix, Jr., age 82 of Jasper (Bent Tree), Ga., passed
away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth from
complications of Parkinsonıs.
A native of Ochlocknee, Ga., Mr. Nix and his wife recently resided
in the community of Bent Tree near Jasper before moving to Delmar Gardens
in Lawrenceville. He was a long-time resident of Jesup, Ga., and had lived
in Jacksonville, Fl. where he retired as an account executive with CSX
Railroad after 42 years. While a freight agent for the Atlantic Coastline
Railroad in Jesup, he was president of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and a
member of the Sand Greens Golf Club. A veteran, Mr. Nix was a pilot in the Air
Corps of the US Army, serving in Europe during WW II. He was a former
member of the First Baptist Church in Jesup, First Baptist Church in
Jacksonville and, of late, a member of the New Lebanon Presbyterian Church in
Jasper. Mr. Nix, an avid sportsman and traveler, most enjoyed many wonderful
occasions of golfing, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Patty Cheney Nix, Jasper; sons and
daughters-in-law, Walt and Beth Nix, Lawrenceville, and Paul and Cathy
Nix, Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Rich Antcliff, Hampton,
Va.; grandchildren, Ginna Moore, Brad, Ashby and Justin Nix, Barbara Jo
Greene, Patricia, Mary and Kevin Antcliff; great-grandchildren, Bowen, Cooper
and Courtlyn Moore.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. from New
Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Jasper with the Rev. Billy Martin
officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
New Lebanon Presbyterian Church, 389 Bent Tree Dr., Jasper, Ga. 30143 or to
Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Ln., Duluth, Ga. 30096.

Laurence Young
Mr. Laurence Douglas Young of Jasper, Ga. passed away Oct. 2, 2004.
Born on May 26, 1935 in Windsor, Vt., Larry grew up across the Connecticut
River in Charlestown, N.H. After graduating from Wentworth Technical College
in Boston with a degree in Architectural Design in 1955, he joined the
Vermont Marble Co., but was soon drafted into the US Army.
Larry served two years with the US Armyıs 2nd Division in Budingen,
Germany before his Honorable Discharge and subsequent return to Vermont
Marble. It was there that his skills and knowledge in dimensional
stone, architectural design and sales and marketing took him across the globe.
He once spent 21 days in Taipal, Taiwan, successfully negotiating the sale
of the marble used to clad the spectacular Chiang Kai-Shek memorial in
Taiwan. Larry then went to work with the Granite Panel Wall Co. in Elberton in
1985 and with Georgia Marble Co. in Tate in 1997, retiring from that company
in 2002.
A man of the dry Yankee humor that was by no means sedate, Larry is
survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 44 years, Shirley; son,
Laurence, Jr.; daughter, Lisa Palladino; daughter-in-law, Mimi
Rosenheim; son-in-law, Scott Palladino; and his treasured grandchildren, Giselle
and Alec Palladino. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ryan of
Charlestown, N.H., and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Catholic faith and a mass of Christian
Burial was held on Monday at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Jasper.
Interment followed in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, Ma. In lieu of
flowers, Larry requested that contributions be made in his memory to
the St. Jude Childrenıs Hospital Research Fund. Send to: Memorial and Honor
