Myrtle Weaver
Mrs. Myrtle Hamrick Weaver, age 88 of Canton, passed away Oct. 3,
2004 at Brian Nursing Center in Canton.
Survivors include her daughter, Ernestine Childers, Canton; son,
Delmer Weaver, Jasper; brothers, Arthur Hamrick, Woodstock, Luther Hamrick,
Calhoun, and Edward Hamrick, Canton; sisters, Louise Miller, Tate, and
Emoline Carver, Jasper. Six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and
four great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of
Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Childers officiating. Interment
followed in the Hinton Cemetery.
Brenda Johnson
Ms. Brenda E. Cowart Johnson, age 52 of the Mount Vernon Community
in Dawson County, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 at her residence.
She was a native of Dawson County and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist
Church. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Loye and Susie
Cowart, Rydal, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Roger Robinson,
Jasper, Eula Jean Reynolds and Terry Spears, Dawsonville, and Nina Cowart,
Dalton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Brenda was preceded in death
by her parents, Efford and Audrey Cowart, and two sisters, Maxine Cowart and
Barbara Ann Pettigrew. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 from Mount
Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Boling and Dozier Henderson
officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The following
served as pallbearers: Joey Reynolds, Shane Robinson, Tracy Chumley, Bobby
Gibson Jeff and Jason Cowart, Larry Stephens and Kenny Justice. Cagle Funeral
Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Kelly Byrd
Miss Kelly Jean Byrd, age 21 of Acworth, passed away Friday, Oct.
1, 2004 in Paulding County, as the result of an auto accident.
Survivors include her father and step-mother, Phillip and Traci
Byrd, Acworth; mother, Donna Nicholson, Dallas; grandparents, Gene Byrd,
Andrews, N.C., Sandra Daniels, Mineral Bluff, and Pat Heath, Ellijay; daughter,
Courtney Lee Murphy Byrd, Acworth; brother, Jake Byrd, Acworth;
sisters, Shantell Byrd, Kentucky, and Cassie Byrd, Acworth.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4 from the
First Baptist Church of Woodstock with the Rev. Daniel Singleton officiating.
Interment followed in Rolling Hills Memory Gardens. The following
served as pallbearers: Terry and Jerry Heath, David Byrd, Bo Stover, Dwayne
Wilson and Lester Cabe. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lucile Barrow
Mrs. Lucile Barrow, age 92 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Oct. 1,
2004 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include a nephew, James Whitehead, Decatur, Ga.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 from Jasper
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Herb Flanders officiating. Interment
followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The following served as pallbearers: Mark
Whitfield, Dub Lawson, Mark Moore, Jr., Pat Harrison, Doug Blackwell
and Wheeler Ware. The family did accept flowers or donations to Jasper
United Methodist Church. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
McKinzie Collins
Infant McKinzie Collins, age 4 months, passed away Sept. 19, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include her mother, Amy Collins, Jasper; brother, Brandon Christopher Collins, Jasper; sisters, Destiny Collins and Kaylan Kincaid, both of Jasper.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper with the Rev. Herman Mulkey officiating. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Elizabeth Small
Mrs. Elizabeth Adams Small, age 94 of Woodstock, Ga., passed away Sept. 10, 2003 in Marietta, Ga.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Small of Washington State; daughter, Betsy Barham of Talking Rock, Ga.; brother, Lucien Adams; and sister, Minnie Fitting. Three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home in Jasper with the Rev. Fred Barrow officiating.
Wayne Popham
Mr. Wayne Popham, age 55 of Dawson County, passed away Monday, July 28, 2003 in Dawson County.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Popham, Dawson County; son, Anthony Wayne Popham, Dawson County; daughter, Jennifer Marie Popham, Dawson County; brothers, Jackie and David Popham, Marble Hill; sisters, Lucille Rich, Faye Reynolds and Naoma Popham, Ball Ground. Three grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, July 31 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Gary Kelley and Lamar Day officiating. The family did accept potted plants or donations may be given to help the family with funeral expenses.
Margaret Clearman
Margaret “Peggy” Clearman of Jasper, age 82, passed away July 28, 2003 at the Canton Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, William Clearman, Jasper; son, Thomas Clearman, Jasper; daughter, Susan Clearman, Norcross; sister, Marthajean C. Radock, Kansas City, Mo. Two grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday, August 1 at 2 p.m. from New Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Jasper with Dr. Dave Fahner and Revs. Hunter Coleman and George R. Richardson officiating. The body was cremated. David Smith
Mr. David Wayne (Jethro) Smith, age 43 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Rosanne Smith, Jasper; daughter, Tiffany McDermott Smith, South Dakota; brothers, Donald John (Too Tall) Smith, Woodstock, and Dale Smith, Alaska; sister, Darla Smith, Maryland.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 22 at 6 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Other services were held later with Kopler-Williams Funeral Home in Fillmore, N.Y. in charge.
Jackie Morgan
Mr. Jackie Morgan, age 54 of Smyrna, Ga., passed away August 1, 2003 at Emory Adventist Hospital in Smyrna.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his children, Anthony Morgan and Jocelyn Morgan, both of Atlanta, Roosevelt Morgan of Baton Rouge, La., Crystal Morgan of Hampton and Kimmeone Morgan of Smyrna; bothers, Otis Morgan Jr., Decatur, Anthony Morgan, Smyrna, and Eugene Morgan, Atlanta; sisters, Constance Morgan and Joan Jackson, both of East Point, Rosa Lee Boyd, Atlanta, and Barbara Harris, Morrow. Three grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service will be held Friday, August 8 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home in Jasper with the Rev. Leo Hampton officiating.
Billy Carter
Mr. Billy J. Carter, age 51 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2003. He was Baptist and self-employed in the construction business.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Carter of Jasper; brothers, Jimmy Carter of Taylorsville, Bobby Carter of Marietta and Danny Carter of Canton; sisters, Odene Anderson of Ball Ground and Modine Sells of Jamestown, Tn. Several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, August 4 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Mr. Frank DeVane and Mr. Willie Thaxton officiating.
Ellen Tatum
Mrs. Ellen Tatum, age 90 of Jasper, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2003. She was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha Gibson of Talking Rock; sons, Eddie and Rev. Gene Tatum, both of Jasper; sisters, Gladys Hilton of Knoxville, Tn. and Lillie Mae Dunagan of Canton. Seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild also survives.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 3 from Pleasant Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Bobbie Baldwin
Mr. Bobbie Baldwin, age 65 of Ball Ground, passed away Friday, August 1, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Baldwin, Ball Ground; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Billy Joe Shook, Ball Ground; brother, Jimmy Baldwin, Ball Ground; two sisters, Bonnell Water and Francis Baldwin, both of Ball Ground. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Mr. Baldwin was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Gene Baldwin.
The funeral service was held Sunday, August 3 at 2 p.m. from Conns Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dozier Henderson and Troy Milford officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jamie Pendley, Richard, Paul and Brandon Ridings, Brad Blackwell, Greg and Charles Waters. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ruth Ann Barrett
Mrs. Ruth Ann Barrett, age 66 of Jasper, passed away at her residence Wednesday, July 30, 2003.
Survivors include her mother, Leona Jenkins, Ducktown, Tn.; sons, Randy Barrett and Eddie Jones, both of Jasper; stepsons, Bill and Ferman Barrett Jr., both of Jasper, and James Barrett, Ranger; step-daughters, Haley Ballew and Lana Sue Barrett, both of Jasper; brothers, Wade Jenkins, Cleveland, Tn., and Hillard Jenkins, Detroit, Mi.; sisters, Nora Barrett, Maureen Everett and Lois Martin, all of Cleveland, Tn. She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Lee Satterfield.
The funeral service was held Friday, August 1 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Cantrell officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Jack Richards, Glenn Stone, Carl Barnett, Hubert Freeman, Larry Hamby and Jeremy Callihan.
Randall White
Mr. Randall White, age 73 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital.
Survivors include his brother, Reggie White, Marietta; nephews, Douglas W. White, Smyrna, and David White, Marietta.
A graveside service was held Saturday, August 2 at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Cagle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Donnie Gilstrap
Mr. Donnie B. Gilstrap, age 50 of Ball Ground, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 at his residence.
Survivors include his son, Stephen Gilstrap of Ball Ground; mother, Odelle Gilstrap of Ball Ground; brother, Mark Gilstrap of Ball Ground; sisters, Ann Gramling and Myrtie Harbin, both of Ball Ground. Three grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3 from Shiloh Methodist Church with the Revs. Gene Hyde, Danny Hyatt and Gaylon Beard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jane Irvin
Jane Bryant Irvin, age 83, passed away August 26, 2003.
A native of Glencove, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah Duryea Bryant. She was a registered nurse, serving in the US Army during World War II. Before moving to Athens, Mrs. Irvin lived in Cocoa, Fl. for 24 years and in the Bent Tree Community in Jasper, Ga. for 12 years.
Survivors include her husband, William C. Irvin; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and John Cox of Commerce, Ga. and Cindi and Eric Goodall of Orillia, Ontario, Canada; sons and daughter-in-law, Bill C. Irvin of Jasper, and Paul and Rebecca Irvin of Winterpark, Fl. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Evelyn Jenkins
Mrs. Evelyn Elizabeth Jenkins, age 76 of Fairmount, Ga., passed away Monday, August 25, 2003 at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Ga. following an extended illness.
Mrs. Jenkins was born on April 27, 1927 in Corbin, Ky., the daughter of the late Joe and Myra Lucretia Serrett Cook. She was a retired employee of Lacey Mills and a member of the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.L. (Mutt) Jenkins; sister, Sara Turner; and brother, Joe Cook.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Jenkins of Ellijay and Terry Jenkins of Fairmount; daughter, Dianne Childers of Jasper; two sisters, Phillis Green of Woodstock and Shirley Whitaker of Jasper. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, August 27 at 2 p.m. from the Ranger Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Yancey officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery near Fairmount. Von and Kyle Headrick, Brad Jenkins, Clyde Slaton, Gary Fowler and Brian Meurrens served as pallbearers. Doug and Brian Payne and Melvin Robbins served as honorary pallbearers. Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
Infant Jaii Amari Midgette
Infant Jaii Amari Midgette passed away Saturday, August 23, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
He is survived by his parents, Angie and Jaii Midgette, Tate; grandparents, Doris and Barry Foye, North Carolina, and Laura Davis, Tate; sisters, India Davis and Ayanna Kabir, Tate; great-aunt, Annie Hampton, Tate. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Cool Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Leland Jones officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Roper Funeral Home of Jasper.
Thomas Crowe
Thomas William Frederick Crowe, six-week-old son of Kevin Thomas and Nicole LaBonte Crowe of Jasper, passed away at the Neonatal ICU of Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon, August 26, 2003.
His sister, Angel Marie Crowe, preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, survivors include grandparents, Jim and Sherryl LaBonte, Big Canoe, Bill and Guerda Crowe, Kennesaw, and Dan and Jean Hanely, Bowling Green, Oh.; great-grandparents, Mike and Rose Dandar, Toledo, Oh.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at 4 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Dr. Charlie Boggan officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the Thomas Crowe Memorial Fund at any Crescent Bank location. Funds will be used to purchase and donate much needed items at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Grady Hospital such as rocking chairs, incubator covers and medical reference books for the parents of premature babies.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Roper Funeral Home of Jasper.
Morris Fouts
Mr. Morris “Rip” Fouts, age 77 of Marble Hill, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2003 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Fouts, Marble Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Wanda Fouts of Marble Hill; two daughters and son-in-law, Teresa Dillard and Rhonda and Randy Lindsey, all of Marble Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Sue Fouts; sister and brother-in-law, Erma and Hubert Ray, Tate; and five grandchildren, Michael Starr, Nathan Fouts, Benjamin and Sara Lindsey and Calab Fouts.
The funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Burt officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Marble Hill Lodge #207 in charge of the Masonic graveside service. Pallbearers were: Michael Starr, Jimmy Weaver, Wayne Anderson, Mark Duncan, Kenny Heath and Larry Ray. The family did request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Marble Hill Baptist Church.
Fayne Pettigrew
Mr. Fayne Pettigrew, age 86 of the Bethany Community, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2003 at Mountainside Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Lucile Pettigrew, Bethany Community; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Saturday, August 30 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Kenneth Kirk, James Williams and William Darnell officiating. Interment was in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with Pickens Star Lodge #220 in charge of the Masonic graveside service. Pallbearers were: Gene Henderson, Jim Quinton, Johnny Vickers, Gene Free, Phillip Thomason and John Reynolds.
