Mr. Oscar Raymond Slaton
Mr. Oscar Raymond Slaton, 91, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at Clear Lake Regional Hospital in Webster, Texas.
He was born on June 14, 1910 in Fayette County, Tyrone, Ga., to Walter Millard and Jessie Handley Slaton. He married his first wife, Ruby Pitts in 1931 and settled in Newnan, Ga. to make his living and raise his child. He also married his second wife, Alma Cato in Newnan. He was a member for more than 50 years with the Coweta Masonic Lodge No. 60 and was also active with the Newnan Royal Arch Masons Chapter No. 34. Oscar relocated his residence to the Houston, Texas area in 1997. He is well remembered for his numerous and artistic talents involving wood carving and whittling, as well as his detailed toothpick renderings of many Newnan, Ga. landmark buildings, including Coweta Bank.
Slaton is survived by his son, W. M. "Bill" Slaton and his long-time partner, Maggie Wiebe; grandson, Scott Slaton and his wife, Cynthia; granddaughter, Megan Odessa Slaton; and step-son, David Wiebe; great-granddaughters, Emily and Miranda Slaton; brother, Eugene Slaton and his wife Charlotte; sister, Velma White and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Pitts; second wife, Alma Cato; and daughter-in-law, Jimmie Chambers Slaton.
Pallbearers are Scott Slaton, Aubry Coucy, J. M. White, Jimmy Ellison, Johnny Ellison and Walter Ellison.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 11 from 5-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan.
A funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. The Rev. O. C. Collins will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Joe Strickland. Music will be performed by Rev. Joe Strickland and his wife Linda. A musical mandolin solo will be performed by Thomas Slaton.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with full Masonic rites.

Mr. Roderick L. Young Jr., 24, of College Park, Ga., died January 5, 2002 at DeKalb Medical Center.
A funeral will be Thursday at noon at Mount Ephraim Baptist Church with remains placed in state at 10 a.m. The Rev. R. L. White, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Donnie Faulkner, 60, of Longwood, Florida, and a native of Hogansville, Ga., died Saturday, January 5, 2002 at his home.
A memorial reception will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Dollie Building at Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville.
Mr. Faulkner was born January 15, 1941 in Hogansville, son of Mrs. Ruth Beall Faulkner Richardson of Hogansville and the late Ruben Donald Faulkner. He was a veteran of service in the U.S. Navy and had lived in Florida for a number of years. He was a member of the Baptist church and was employed as a business consultant.

Mrs. Corille Paschal Gearreld, 88, of Franklin, Ga. died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga.
Mrs. Gearreld was born May 24, 1913 in Heard County, Ga. to the late Mort Paschal and Diamond Carter Paschal. For 45 years "Miss Corille" served the children in Heard County at the Franklin Elementary School where she taught the first and third grades. She was loved by all her students. Mrs. Gearreld was a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gearreld.
A funeral was Saturday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Ga. The Reverends Talmadge Chandler and Rick McMahan officiate. Pallbearers were Don Holmes, Talmadge Davis, Joel Rogers, Donald Rogers, Lyle Tompkins, Thomas Lipford, Bill Clark, Mason Alford and Thomas Miller. Burial was in the Franklin City Cemetery.

Mr. Robert L. Hardin Jr., 47, of Molena, died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at his residence.
He was born August 22, 1954 in Newnan, Ga. to the late Robert Lewis Hardin Sr. and Lena Merle Vickery Hardin. He was employed with Southern Mills and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Senoia.
Surviving are wife, Kay J. Hardin of Molena; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Tammy Hardin of Senoia; stepsons, Scotty Parrish, Ken Parrish, Edwin Parrish, all of Molena; step-grandchildren Michael Ray Parrish, Christopher Parrish, Jesse Parrish and Robert Parrish.

Mrs. Hayes was born June 18, 1928 to the late Fannie Hunley of LaGrange, Ga. She joined the Elim Baptist Church at an early age.

Mrs. Addie Lee Easley Head, 104, formerly of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at her daughter's home in Rainbow City, Ala.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Rev. Marion Shivers and the Rev. Joanna Pence officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Tuesday.
Born Nov. 22, 1897 in Tunnel Hill, Mrs. Head was the daughter of the late Ludie and Charles Easley. She attended Reinhardt College in Waleska where she married George Bruce Head in 1917. After her husband completed dental school at The Atlanta Dental College, they moved to LaGrange in 1918 where they lived until moving to Hogansville in 1923 when her husband opened his dental practice. In 1997, at age 100, she sold her car and her Hogansville home and moved to Alabama to live with her daughter.
Mrs. Head was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville for more than 70 years and was a frequent volunteer to charitable and civic organizations. She was often involved in food drives to help those in need and in toy drives for children at Christmas. Her recipes for cakes, cobblers and fried peach pies are legend.
Surviving are son, George Bruce Head Jr., a retired dentist of Hogansville; daughter, Frankie Lee Pearce of Rainbow City, Ala.; grandchildren, George Bruce Head III of Gadsden, Ala., Phillip Head of Hogansville, Charles Judson Pearce of Rainbow City, and Donna Scorey of Hixson, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by a granddaughter, Vickie Head Booker.

Mrs. Maxine Johns, 82, of Sharpsburg, Ga., formerly of Roopville and Carrollton, died Thursday, January 2, 2002 following an extended illness.
Mrs. Johns was born Aug. 18, 1919 in Mounds, Illinois to the late Astor McGee and Zada Belle Fleming McGee. Mrs. Johns was a homemaker and a member of the Roopville Baptist Church. Music had played a large roll in Mrs. Johns' life, she had taught piano lessons and had served as the church organist for Providence Baptist Church where she also worked in the kindergarten.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Harry McGee; a brother, Thomas McGee; and a sister, Micca Schall.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Roger Stone of Sharpsburg; a sister, Juanita Dixon of Carrollton; three grandsons, Jay Stone of Griffin, Staff Sgt. Mrs. McLamb was born June 21, 1936 in Coweta County to the late Elbert Lewis and Nannie Clark Lewis. She was a homemaker and a member of Glenloch Bapitst Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion McLamb.

Mr. Wilder was born in Randolph County, Ala., August 18, 1923 to the late William Hoyt Wilder and Eunice Marie Traylor Wilder. He died Jan. 2, 2002 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Ga., from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. Wilder was a carpenter with the Herman Butler Construction Company. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church. He served his country proudly in the United States Army, where he obtained the rank of Private First Class. For his great sacrifice during World War II he was awarded the European Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
Surviving are two daugthers and sons-in-law, Judy and Ed Wilder and Dianne and Vance Cline; three grandchildren, Sheree Wilder Srader and her husband marty Srader, Candice Cline and Mathew Cline, all of Carrollton, Ga. and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie Irene Huddleston Wilder.

Mr. Bailey was born Oct. 5, 1939, in Fayette County. Mr. Bailey served in the U.S. Army and was a retired school bus driver. He was a Baptist by faith and a member of Fayetteville Lodge 711 F&AM.

Mr. Austin Lee Clift, the three-month-old son of Christina Marie Clift and Shannon Dale Crawley, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Austin was born Sept. 11, 2001, in LaGrange.

She had made her home in Grantville since 1940 and was retired from Grantville Mills. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church at Moreland and was the wife of the late Alvin L. Fields.

Mr. Thomas "T-Boy" Cruver, 72, of Newnan, died January 3, 2002 at his residence.

Mr. Cruver, affectionately known as "T-Boy," was the fifth child of Jesse and Lorena Bohannon Cruver and was born August 15, 1929.
He was raised in the Grantville, Coweta County area around Mt. Gilead/New Hope community. He was educated at the Mt. Gilead Community School. At an early age he joined the Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church and served faithfully in many capacities until his health prevented him from serving.
He met and married the former Ms. Mildred Johnson April 18, 1959. They had seven children, three of whom preceded him in death. His wife died April 21, 1990.
Surviving are children, Chandra Cruver (caretaker), Deborah Cruver, Dianne F. Mrs. Sara Gray Hollis Parrott Cole, 81, of Newnan, died Wednesday, January 2, 2001 at her residence.
Mrs. Cole was born September 25, 1920 in Athens, Ga. to Joseph Gray Hollis and Isaac Powell Hollis. She was a homemaker. She attended Newnan Public Schools and attended Gulf Park College and Agnes Scott College. She married Edgar Carlton Parrott and had two sons. After the death of Mr. Parrott she was later married to Edward G. Cole. She became a life master in bridge and was an accomplished artist who sold many of her paintings. She was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church and a long-time member of the Newnan Junior Service League.
The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Friday, Jan. 4 from 2:30-4 p.m.

Mr. Travis A. Kelley, 81, of Columbus, Ga. died Thursday, January 3, 2002 at the Columbus Hospice House.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Macon Road Chapel in Columbus, Ga. with Rev. Jim Bruner officiating. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery. Active and honorary pallbearers will be his nephews. Active pallbearers are Roger Kelley, Deuel Kelley, Steve Lovvorn, Zane Kelley and James Kelley. Mr. Kelley was born in Carroll County, Ga. Oct. 17, 1920, son of the late James Green Kelley and Beulah Frances Rogers Kelley. He had lived in Columbus since 1940 and was a member of Britt David Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and he retired in 1980 from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy C. Kelley of Columbus, Ga. His two daughters, Pamela Faye Kelley of Columbus, Ga. and Debra K. Moore and her husband James R. Moore of Dothan, Ala.; sister, Banna Cottle of Newnan; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brooks was born March 23, 1936 in Meriwether County to the late Albert and Lola Mae Brooks.
He died Dec. 28, 2001 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hospice in Atlanta, Ga.

Mr. Buchanan was born December 16, 1948 in McPherson County, Kansas, son of the late Quillian Buchanan and the late Edith Chatman Buchanan. He lived in the LaGrange area most of his life and was employed as a mechanic. He was a veteran of service in the U.S. Army.

Mrs. Gentry was born April 27, 1948 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Homer and Frances Turner Ball. She lived in Heard County most of her life and was a member of the Baptist church.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald Gentry of Franklin; three daughters and a son-in-law, Beth and Randy Brown of Grantville, Sandra Jean Lark and Angela Crider, both of Franklin; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Beth Cole and Michael Holloway, all of Franklin; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Larry Smith of Newnan and Sara and Welborn Askew of Piedmont, Ala; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Janice Ball of Franklin; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jones was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Dock Jones Oct. 8, 1915. He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Mrs. Lois Copeland, Mr. Harvey Jones, Mr. Marvin Jones, Mrs. China Mae Jones, and Mrs. Irie B. Davis.
He was in the Army and retired from Newnan High School. He was married to the late Mrs. Savannah Hicks and they had two children, Master Willie Dock Jones (deceased) and Hattie Beatrice Jones.

Mr. Leeman Moody
Mr. Hyrum Leeman Moody, 78, of 85 Connector, Brooks, Ga. died Friday, December 28, 2001 at Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville.
Mr. Moody was born July 13, 1923 near Brooks, son of the late James Butler Moody and Annie Lee Biles Moody. He served in World War II in the 55th Fighter Group in the U. S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of County Line Christian Church near Brooks.
The funeral was held December 30 at County Line Christian Church. The Rev. Jim Dressler, the Rev. Winston Skinner and the Rev. Kenneth Whitlock officiated. Mrs. Fay Dressler sang "You'll Never Know."
Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hazel Newman Marchman, 69, of Newnan, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Fayette Community Hospital.
Mrs. Marchman was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Heard County, to the late Roger and Lucy Newman. Mrs. Marchman was devoted to caring for her family and friends. She was a retired dietitian for the Coweta County School System, and a life-long member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Heard County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Marchman.
A funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard Scarbrough and Steve Clark will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
